I had the honor of meeting Mr. Robinson just a few years before he had passed. My high school baseball team's gear had been stolen. Frank had heard about it in the news and came to our field to donate what had to have been thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I'll never forget that day and how privileged I was to meet him.
Speaking of high school teams, Frank was part of what was easily the greatest high school outfield ever. In the early 1950s at McClymonds high school in Oakland, CA Frank shared the outfield with Curt Flood and Vada Pinson. All got drafted by Cincinnati, all became All Stars. No other high school outfield is even remotely close to this.
@@moeball740 Pinson should be in the Hall of Fame as a veteran or historic player. If Flood's career had lasted longer, he might be in consideration as an historic player too. Robinson was three years older than either Flood or Pinson. If they played together, it might have been for only one year. I think it's safe to say, there never has been and never will be a greater high school outfield.
I'm surprised Nolan Ryan did not make this list. Literally the strikeout king with 5714. Only pitcher to pitch 7 no hitters. He is an 8 time all star. Sure he found his stride later in his career but still.
This dorks list is a joke. Putting Balco barry bonds ahead of Babe Ruth??? GTFOH!!! Lol Joke list. And Nolan DEFINITELY is a top 15 baseball player all time. His numbers alone put him there! And at his best… he was as dominant as Randy Johnson. EASILY
Non of those things you mentioned about Ryan determine how good a player is. Nolan Ryan is absolutely not a top 25 player he’s probably in that 60s range. He had 83 war in 27 years and had a career 112 ERA+ he was really great but he’s easily the most overrated player of all time.
I cross referenced that he did lose the entirety of 52 and 53, they don't count 52 he was 6 games 53 37. That's why most people reference him losing 5 seasons not 3.
Although I would not put Ted Williams in my top 5, he really missed 5 seasons to military service. Even 25 HR times 5 seasons would have easily put him over 600 HR.
@@PFB1994 I put him as number 1. It wasn't just 5 yrs it was 5 prime years. He was the last to hit .406. He could have easily hit .400 again if not once but twice more. It doesn't count but he did in his two shorten seasons hit.400. So average lifetime would have been higher. He would have easily equaled every number Ruth hit and more.
Very good presentation. There needs to be three lists: 1) Pitchers only: Koufax Rivera CMathewson CyYoung Ryan Feller LGrove Maddux GAlexander Spahn Carlton Schilling CHubbell EPlank RWaddell WFord, etc et al. 2) Hitting/Players only WITHOUT Steroids. Where are Eddie Collins, Chuck Klein (1929-1933 short career), Ralph Kiner (8 Home Run Titles), Albert Belle (1991-2000), Frank Thomas (1991-2000), Jeter Wagner TSpeaker JFoxx HGreenberg JMize, etc et al. 3) Steroid tainted players: Pujols Bonds Clemens ARoid Bagwell Helton McGwire Sosa Palmeiro IvanRod Piazza Canseco MRamirez DOrtiz Sheffield JuanGon Giambi Pettitte RBraun MoVaughn Gagne Caminiti BretBoone, etc et al. List the greatest of all those who's stats improved after age 30 and into their 40s. Make a revised list of historic baseball records WITHOUT those involved with steroids. Steroids ruined baseball's greatest passion: stats leaders MVPs records ~ too bad. The Steroid tainted players ruined my love for baseball, and many other fans of the game. Druggee Steroid Players made baseball into "ArenaBall" wiith homeruns walks strikeouts and anger/fights as top priorities. Cheers :)
Couple things you didn’t mention about Albert that may be most impressive. He never struck out more than 100 times in a season, and he finished his career with more xbh than k’s. Prime Pujols is a top 2 or 3 hitter all time.
Prime Albert is top 25 but he was a big disappointment in Anaheim. None of the others had such issues. I am a big Albert fan but not in the top 10 if you look at the whole picture.
@@cesarmartinezleon3355 Really good is not top 10 all time. I am an Angels fan, have been since Nolan Ryan days. Albert was injured a lot. He made 1 all-star team. I could run faster than him and look better doing it. Helped the Angels get into the World Series zero times. I luv Albert but he is not top 10.
@@outofcompliance1639 His first 10 years were the best ten years of nearly any hitter. If he retired then he would be on this list as well. I don't think you should punish him for playing longer. Obviously he got injured and something happened to his eye, but its the same thing with Griffey.
@@Rxinsch Nolan Ryan isn’t even a top 10 pitcher all time. So he can’t be on this list. Never won a cy young, doesn’t have as good stats as other pitchers who are top 10. Yeah he had 7 no hitters and pitched for like 30 years but statistically he isn’t even close to a top 25 player all time, maybe top 75
Willie Mays was so unique that in Venezuela we have an expression that says “Do the Willie” or “Do the Willie Mays”. Which means outsmart someone or trick someone 😂
Not bad. Biggest omit in my eyes is Honus Wagner. Other tough omits would be Jimmie Foxx (rated 2nd in HRs until 1966) & Nolan Ryan. I think Foxx was quite a bit better than Ott. Good list though. Glad to see someone give kudos to Bonds. I know it’s off the table, but Sadaharu Oh.
My favorite baseball quotes of all-time is from Randy Johnson. "I don't keep a gun near my bed, I keep a bag of baseballs. If your going to break into my house, wear a batting helmet, i'm throwing for your head." On another note, i don't know who you would take off, but i felt like Pete Ross, Tony Gwynn and Nolan Ryan should have made the top 25.
Trout’s first 10 seasons pales in comparison to Albert’s first 10. Probably the best start to a major leaguer in the entire history of MLB. Look it up buddy
Solid list. 2 takeaways here. Griffey and Trout are insanely similar. If Griffey didn’t get hurt so much he’s likely the home run king and arguably the best ever. If trout didn’t get hurt so much he’d be projecting even more godly than he already is. And the second thing is it’s crazy that those late 90s mariners teams had 3 all time top 15 players. What that team could have and should have been 🤯
@@jablejosh7335 I was mostly talking from a career trajectory. Griffey missed essentially 3+ seasons due to injury. Projecting those games missed out he’s likely the home run king and has 3k hits and in the conversation as best ever not just top 10. Trout has already missed about 2 seasons due to injury. When it’s all said and done those 2 years can add up to a lot of extra stats. That’s all I’m really comparing
Yeah but a lot of those years he wasn’t deserving of being one. They were just voting him in due to popularity not actual production. Still a great player though.
I like this ranking. But I would had Nolan Ryan. Yes, his win column doesn't support it, but take into mind that he played on mostly losing teams. There was a period of a month with the Astros where he only gave up 4 or 5 run in a 4 game span, and still lost or no decision in those games cause the Astros couldn't score more than 2 runs. His 7th no hitter, he didn't know if he would be able to pitch cause of his elbow, but he warmed up and he went back to the dugout and told his team 'all I need is 1 run tonight boys.'
Pretty good list, my only gripe is that Rickey henderson should be higher. He is THE ultimate run generator. The leadoff hitter or all leadoff hitters. His combination of discipline, hitting and speed on the basepaths was something that I don’t think we will ever see again. We are more likely to see another 600-700 hr player then we will seeing a 1400+ sb, 2200+ bb, almost 2300 run player. That alone should make him a top 10-15 player. It’s a minor gripe, but Rickey def deserves more love when it comes to talking baseball
How do you leave out Cy Young? Most wins, most innings pitched, and most complete games in history. And those records will never fall! Plus the best pitcher award is named after him. A case for him being the greatest pitcher ever could be made and ... where is he?!
Cy young’s number don’t translate like they do today. K/9 under 4. Never got to 3000 despite pitching 7000 innings. He’s just hard to rank. If you were to take one guy from this old school era it’s clearly Walter johnson
More than half of his career predates the American League. The ball was also very different during almost his entire career. The league changed the ball slightly before Youngs last season and runs and homeruns across the league went up a lot. They also didn’t always change balls back then since they either only had a few or maybe had to play the game with one ball. So the ball would be scuffed and very dirty and possibly even be covered in tobacco spit since spit balls had not yet been banned. All of that would give a pitcher a huge advantage. Cy Young was one of the best of his era but his era was too long ago to compare todays players.
Outstanding list. 👍👍So happy you included Bob Gibson. Well deserved. More on Rogers Hornsby. Averaged over .400 for 5 straight years. Didn’t hit over .400 each year, but the average of the 5 years is over .400. The Rajah. A little bit more on Albert. Never struck out more than 93 times. Only player with over 700 HRs and over 600 doubles at 686. Rocky being Ricky pure joy to watch. Best leadoff hitter. Ever. No one comes close.
@@jimclaus1576 An argument could be made. Indeed. I’m from STL, and Bob was my childhood, so I’m biased. However, no argument from me. What separates Bob for me: Thinking on the 1.12 era, 28 complete games of which 13 were shutouts. The greatest single season by a pitcher. Ever.
Nice list. I would've liked to see Pete Rose and Ichiro make it with all those career hits (and Ichiro's defense). Also, I was a bit surprised Rivera didn't make it for being the best closer ever.
Rivera is definitely one of the most skilled pitchers ever, but his value as a reliever just doesn't allow him to be considered a top 25 player bc his impact was limited only pitching 1-2 innings out of the pen as opposed to some of these starters who went 8-9 innings. I feel like Nolan Ryan should have made the list
Miguel Cabrera Jackie Robinson Ichiro Suzuki Tony Gwynn Clayton Kershaw Pete Rose Roberto Clemente Low key probably even Shohei Ohtani if he stays healthy and can do both So many guys not even mentioned. Would love to see a top 50 or even top 100 to see where the rest of the greats would rank. Great video!
I hope this isn’t your actually top five, because if it is, then get help. Only Gwynn and Rose have any kind of arguments to even be close to the top five.
I honestly might have put Roberto Clemente on there. One of the best defenders of all time and would have finished with even more hits if he didnt tragically die. He is top 25 in my eyes.
DiMaggio is underrated, easily top 10. Overshadowed by the bigger media of the 50s and 60s and Baby Boomer fans that love Mantle and Mays. DiMaggio was a stellar defensive outfielder and had a cannon for a throwing arm before a shoulder injury about halfway through his career. He averaged about 1 HR per strikeout. (361 HR vs 369 SO) while missing some prime years in the military. Dimaggio hit 8 World Series HR - none at Yankee stadium, because it was so skewed for left-handed batters.
Before I watch, I just gotta say this, Ricky Henderson is a top 20 player of all time! Fastest player in the history of baseball, stolen base king, arguably the best leadofff hitter, and numerous other accolades. Edit: Thanks Marc for putting my fav player on the list!
i will edit my response here as well, rickey should also be higher on the list. i hope it doesn't take someones favorite player to see how great he was at BASEBALL. thanks for keeping rickey be rickey in play...but why do you spell it ricky, are you not aware at all of the person or the player? i don't call pedro martiniz my favorite player, i respectfully refer to him by his actual name pedro martinez? is there no respect in the world for someones "fav player"?
Roberto Clemente or Greg Maddux? I know this is a hard list to compile. However, these two should have made the list. Otherwise, I love how you honored the older players. Great job, Marc!
Yeah biased list that Seaver is there and not Maddux. I actually get the case for peak Randy or Pedro but Maddux with all those GG and 15+ win seasons are both probably impossible records to touch.
Babe Ruth has to be number 1 for the simple fact that he was well on his way to being one of the 5 greatest pitchers who ever lived before deciding to hit full time. His 6th season in 1919 was the first time he played in over 100 games and his 5th season in 1918 was the first season he had over 200 plate appearances. Imagine 5 more seasons of numbers he could have put up. Probably would have 800 HR.
@Azumi Shimizu how doesn't that count? He held world series pitching records for decades while also being the hitter that he was. It's ok to use if when talking about IF the steroid guys never did it they'd be in the hall of fame right?
@@azumishimizu1880 And the avg fastball velocity is completely irrelevant. Does that mean Cy Youngs 510 wins doesn't count because the avg fastball wasn't as fast as today? That makes no sense
I’m honestly tired of The Babe at #1. It’s been long enough to see the game develop into something greater than it used to be. The top three belong to Mays and Bonds and Griffie. Not some legend people can’t fathom. That’s what Babe Ruth is the best as. #4 where we can just imagine. And I think that’s fine
I always find it tough to argue against Babe Ruth as the greatest baseball player of all time. Offensively, he was up there with anybody who's played the game, AND he was an elite pitcher in his time as well. There's nobody in baseball that could match that. The only argument against him is the time in which he played, which doesn't satisfy me. We judge everybody else by the time in which they played. Why nitpick Ruth while giving players in the steroid era a pass?
@@morrisparrish76playing in the deadball era. Stadiums that were bigger as well. Ruth hand and eye coordination was amazing. He would be great in any era
This is why I love baseball. You could make legit arguments for any of the players in the top 4 to be the best player of all time. I don’t think that can be said about any other sport
@@crushedscouter9522 I would disagree because I believe that soccer is between 2 guys(Messi and Ronaldo), there is no debate for hockey(Wayne Gretski), basketball is between two guys(Jordan and Lebron), and football has a good argument, but I think there’s 1 standout from the rest(Tom Brady)
@@crushedscouter9522 obviously not everyones gonna agree on something, but its mainly agreed upon that brady is the greatest american football player of all time, gretzky is the goat for hockey, and for soccer you can make an argument for cr7, messi, pele, or maradona but at this point again, its mainly agreed upon that its messi, for basketball, again, you can make an argument for mj or lebron but its mainly agreed upon that its mj then again, its also mainly agreed upon that barry bonds or babe ruth is the goat of baseball
Great video! I would have included Lefty Grove somewhere on the list. In 17 seasons he led in E.R.A. 9 times and K's 7 times. Although I love Mel Ott, Tris Speaker was better. Tris was the Willie Mays of his time. He had 3,514 hits, a record 792 doubles, 222 triples, 436 steals, .345 AVG, .427 OBP, .500 SLG, 3 titles. He had 449 outfield assists. Cobb is a distant second with 392. The problem with Ott (and I love Mel Ott) are his splits. He hit 323 of his 511 homers at home. Against the Phillies at Shibe Park he hit .415 in 119 games with 40 HR and 162 RBI. His OBP was .508 and slugged .774. When the Phils moved to the Baker Bowl he hit .220 in 71 games with 0 HR and 33 RBI. His OBP was .330 and he slugged .272. A 1.282 OPS compared to .602.
I saw Bonds in the early 90's in person, and I agree. What most people don't know or realize is that in the 80's Leyland made the mistake of not moving Bonds down in the order. So Bonds basically was a lead off hitter for four straight seasons. So I'll give his rookie season a pass, but check out his 87 through 89 seasons. Bonds went 3 straight seasons of having 59 rbis, 58, 58. He lead leadoff hitters in home runs those seasons. So if Leyland (Great Manager by the way) had moved Bonds down in the order in between Van Slyke and Bonilla, say like 4th then he would have had 90 to 100 rbis for three straight seasons. So among position players, Bonds finished 8th in WAR, 7th in WAR and then 3rd in WAR in the last three seasons of the 1980's. Had he been moved down to drive in runs his numbers would have been even better. (For instance, in 1987 Bonds hit 25 home runs, but he also hit 25 home runs in 1991, but he had 116 RBIs and should have won the MVP award, but in batting leadoff he can only get half of those runs batted in). Now when Leyland did move him down, Bonds batted in the 5th position and won MVP and they started winning divisions. He lead in WAR among position players in the NL 7 times in the 1990's. Consider the 4 lead off years and games taken away from the 94/95 strike, and his numbers would even have been crazier. An amazing thing about Clemens, Bonds and McGwire is that they all played college ball being All Americans at USC, Texas and Arizona State in the golden area of college baseball (80's). He also faced specialty relief pitching that Ruth, Aaron and Mays didn't have to deal with at the end of games. Also up until 1930 ground rule doubles were counted as home runs.
@davidwesley2525 Ruth played in a Era where some of the best players couldn't play because of the color of their skin. Who knows what he would've been against the best competition.
It's amazing what steroids can do, bonds and his boys absolutely ruined the game forever. Good job though Mark next time you do it maybe you can just leave off all the steroid guys. And for me personally I'd have Stan Musial in the top five and I would also no doubt have the greatest picture of all time Nolan Ryan on my list, I think everybody knows he played on the shittiest but you still can't leave them off the list
How many times did Barry Bonds steal home plate? How many times did he pitch in a World Serres? How many times did he hit more homers than entire teams? When people talk about the most LOVED athletes of all time, we hear Pele, Ali, and Ruth.
Rickey Henderson at #23 is an absolute joke. He has nearly 500 MORE steals than the second place guy. He’s the also the all-time leader in runs scored and was the all-time walks leader until Balco Bonds was walking 150 times a season. He was also a very good fielder. Rickey would drive opposing pitchers crazy. He would work a pitcher to draw a walk or get a hit. He would then distract the pitcher by stealing bases. If he concentrated on power he would have certainly hit 500 home runs. As it is he nearly hit 300 homers. At WORST Rickey is a top 10 player and the lead off hitter on a team of the best players ever assembled. As far as total impact players, it’s either him or Mays that should be considered the greatest of all-time.
Seeing Ichiro left off the list and multiple steroid users on the list in my opinion is insulting. Ichiro was the best contact hitter of all time, one of the best base runners of all time, and an absolutely elite Right Fielder.
I’m so glad I got to watch a lot of these greats play. Albert Pujols, Griffey, A-Rod, and the Bonds “healthy diet” years…wow. I remember the absolute bomb he hit vs the Angels in the World Series, made me jump out of my chair.
I agree with Griffey Jr.- 100 %, One of the best I've ever seen play. All - Natural. A- rod B.Bonds ,Clemens- ALL Juice Heads - Must Go!!! LOVE Tom Terrific
Good video Marc, this is an unwinnable task in terms of making everyone happy with your list. And though I disagree on a lot of placements (including that #1 spot lol) I have to commend you for what I believe to have been a well balanced and researched list. Most importantly you did a good job of conveying some important historical baseball players to an audience who may never have heard of Hornsby, Walter Johnson, or Mel Ott before. Shoutouts to Eddie Collins, Bob Feller, and Lefty Grove before I’m out.
Should’ve split up pitchers and hitters because how do you compare the two. And I would have definitely included Maddux on the list. Yeah he didn’t throw hard like Clemens or Johnson but he had pinpoint accuracy and insane movement on his pitches.

@Richard James except the vast majority of his competition was doing it too. Roids or not what bonds did in those years was astounding. Dude would get maybe 3 pitches a game to actually put a swing on. To put up those numbers while getting that treatment is unreal. That 01 season was pure domination from him. For a game that favors the defensive team Barry was the exception to that. The defense feared him and treated him as such.
@@richardjames5013 just because people don't get caught doesn't mean they weren't doing the same thing. Testing was bogus unless they picked a scapegoat like Bonds
If this guy took his top 25 players and made that into a MLB roster, as great as they are, they wouldn't win many games. All those great pitchers - Pedro, Seaver, both Johnsons, etc. - throwing unhittable pitches...that would all go to the backstop. Even all the batters striking out would reach base. There would be an endless parade of base runners circling around to score. All because he doesn't have a catcher. Johnny Bench has to be on this roster.
No Johnny Bench, no Nolan Ryan...and has Barry Bonds #1. 😂 Bonds doesn't even have a ring. Never even sniffed a ring. How can you be the best ever in a team sport and can't lead a team to a championship? Absolutely absurd. If we're adding roid heads A-Rod is a vastly better than Bonds just on that alone. Not to mention Bonds doesn't even have 3k hits. Anything this dude says after putting that ringless cheating bum #1 needs to be completely ignored as nonsense.
@Eclark… Exactly my thoughts on bonds. I mean before that turd got on massive amounts of steroids, he was KNOWN for choking in the playoffs!! And his sorry ass throw was the reason Sid Bream scored that winning run!! Lol Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax deserve to be on that list over Bonds!! At least Nolan performed well in the playoffs! Sat down 12 Mets in the NLDS!!
@LogicallyKnot he has been to a world series and winning championships don't matter that much. if you think championships are so important than all of the 2010 2012 and 2014 giants would be there
Mark says using steroids doesn't matter?! NO WAY! As far as I'm concerned half of Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez' home runs should be taken away from them! Babe Ruth was not only a great offensive player but he was one of the greatest pitchers of all time! That makes him the greatest all around player of all time! Also, Ted Williams was a great offensive player, but he was not a great outfielder.
Yes Rose has the most hits. So what ,that does not make him a top 25 player. He also has the most outs in baseball history. Using your logic that disqualifies him from being a top 25 player. Even as the singles hitter he was he probably is not even a top 10 singles hitter.. Just of the top pf my head I would say Carew, Gwynn, Boggs and Ichiro where all better than Rose.
Ryan was great but not better than any of the pitchers listed here. Just look at his stats, walked a ton of guys, gave up a ton of hits, wild pitches like crazy, no Cy Youngs...he was good but not top 25 good.
Nolan Ryan was by far the greatest power pitcher of all time nobody will beat his so re ord no hitters and he's average you say oh my God unsubsidized now
I think Nolan Ryan should be on that list. He didn't play on all the great teams which make some of his win/loss numbers look bad, but I think he is likely one of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game. Still a good list.
@@rybread28 He should have won at least one and probably two. I believe one year he had 2 no hitters and other stats to justify it. How could someone with 7 no hitters and the all-time strikeout king that no one will catch, not be on this list. When he first came into the league he didn't know where the ball was going, but once Tom House coached him he put it all together.
For me The Ryan Express was the most amazing “offensive” pitcher the game has ever seen with his strikeouts and complete and perfect games but his “defensive “ stats bring him down. He gave up too many homers and way too many grand slams, lots of losses and walked way too many batters. Still, as a young kid, I never saw a more dominant physical pitcher and the fact he could still throw a fastball over 100 in the 8th and 9th inning of several games is a testament to his raw physical presence.
You can only compare players vs the era they played in. That makes Babe Ruth #1 in my eyes as he was more dominant over other players of his time than anyone else.
Agreed. The only player of comparable dominance was Cobb. But this is a young guy compiling this, and he excuses steroids. The raw numbers don't matter: it's how they stacked up against the competition.
Tom Seaver is so underrated. His winning percentage is over 100 points over his team's winning percentage - the highest in MLB history. Don't apologize because you are a Met fan. He deserves the recognition.
Yes he racked up over 4k hits but a career .784 OPS doesn’t knock anyone else off this list, at least not when you also aren’t one of the greatest fielders or base runners of all time too.
25 of the all time players is a very hard list to make, but I think that you done a good job at it even though you gotta have Pete Rose aka Charlie Hustle aka the hit king in there somewhere
@@arnoldcox9128 I agree he's the best catcher of all-time. @@jacoblangguth5125 I wish I could have watched Bench play in person, but I'm a youngster . I loved watching Piazza and Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez at the plate
I know it's impossible to narrow these things down to 25 guys, but if this is my list I'm making room for Steve Carlton. Talk about criminally underrated 😅 For a big chunk of my childhood, Lefty was 2nd all-time in Ks behind Nolan Ryan. Not to mention 3 Cy Youngs, 10 All Star nods, a World Series ring and of course a HOF plaque. Steve Carlton, my favorite left handed pitcher ever on my beloved Phillies 😁👍
Narrow down the list by not putting pitchers in give them their own top 25 list pitchers though valuable. Don't have the stats to be considered best players
I know making a top 25 of all time has to be extremely difficult, but I feel like leaving Nolan Ryan off this list is blasphemy. He changed the game of baseball by throwing hard before anybody did it.( and he also is responsible for the single worst beat down of a player in Ventura)
Let see how well Bond would have hit with no Helmet, no arm armor, no let armor and no steroids. Ruth did it all with out any of that. Bonds does not even deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame. Ruth #1.
Counting stats wise Bonds is most definitely that greatest player ever, but with steroids thrown in I can't bring myself to say he is, I would put Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Babe Ruth over him because they were naturally good.
Bob Gibson was not the only reason the mound was lowered. Offense was at an all time low across both leagues in 1968 that’s why they changed it. The average OPS that year was .639
@@GiraffeNeckMarcI was just using the simplest stat for modern day fans to understand. If you want me to use something for the time, the league wide batting average that season was .237. The average amount of runs scored per game was 3.42. League average ERA was 2.98. 7 qualified pitchers had an ERA under 2. All around just every offensive number was at insane lows. If Bob Gibson didn’t exist they would’ve still lowered the mound. Maybe do some research before stating things that just aren’t true in your videos
@Proxima B no it wouldn’t because the league average OPS+ would always be 100. That doesn’t mean anything in this situation because Im comparing the difference between eras
Leaving Nolan Ryan off this list is criminal he had over 5700 strikeouts 7 no hitters and the man literally has the record for holding the most records

How the hell Shohei Ohtani isn't in there when he won World Baseball Classic which is more important than World Series, while doing something that someone hasn't done since Babe Ruth? 🤔

Wow… that’s amazing, and I’m happy that you got the gear back!
Lock up your gear lol
Fun fact: Stan Musial has the same number of hits at home and on the road - 1815 each. The definition of pure consistency.

Nah, Ichiro was great but not like the top players of all time.
Ted Williams also almost missed the entirety of the '52 & '53 seasons due to the Korean War. Such a legend.
He also missed 3 years do too WWII!!! And he broke his elbow half way into his career. I feel his ability of a hitter was unmatched.
I cross referenced that he did lose the entirety of 52 and 53, they don't count 52 he was 6 games 53 37. That's why most people reference him losing 5 seasons not 3.
Ted won 2 Triple Crowns (1942,1947) yet didn't win the MVP either time. Just missed winning a third in 1949, won the MVP. Go figure.
Couple things you didn’t mention about Albert that may be most impressive. He never struck out more than 100 times in a season, and he finished his career with more xbh than k’s. Prime Pujols is a top 2 or 3 hitter all time.

What that team could have and should have been 🤯
Griffey, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Edgar Martinez, and a collection of other good players but nothing to show for it.
For real, they had 40+ home run hitter Jay buhner and they had hall of famer Edgar Martinez and squandered it.
Only one pitcher mentioned Randy Johnson. You see how important pitching is now it was then also?
I think Trout is closer to Mantle than Griffey is to Trout.
@@jablejosh7335 I was mostly talking from a career trajectory. Griffey missed essentially 3+ seasons due to injury. Projecting those games missed out he’s likely the home run king and has 3k hits and in the conversation as best ever not just top 10.

Crazy to think that Cal Ripken Jr. was an all star 19 years in a row 🤯
I didn't realize this about Ripken Jr. 19 straight years? Insane.

Randy Johnson is better statistically
Its a shame injuries and his notoriously difficult to get along with personality limited his playing time so much for his last 7 seasons or so.
Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax deserve to be in a top 25 before bob gibson.

Enough said👍! Now I don't have to leave a comment.
If if if... that doesnt count bro. Also, in Babe's time a fastball was like 140 km/h.

@@jaw1927 right no way he better then babe should have put Jackie Robson on there not barry bond

Roberto Clemente for sure. Willie Mays level player.
Think I’d add Pete rose to my list and Griffey underrated at the 10 spot?
Yah I agree
Cobb, Speaker, T. Williams, Ruth, Gehrig, E. Collins, Pie Traynor, W. Johnson, W. Ford and 1 more.
@texttriggercode11ontelegra27 scammer
Should’ve split up pitchers and hitters because how do you compare the two. And I would have definitely included Maddux on the list. Yeah he didn’t throw hard like Clemens or Johnson but he had pinpoint accuracy and insane movement on his pitches.
Yeah, I was a little shocked he didn’t make the cut. Probably Top 30 by the standards established in the video
Imo he overvalues strikeouts, and gives too much of a pass to pitchers that issue lots of walks and homers ala Manoah, Cease, Cole.
@@metabreaker1185
Cease was 3rd In MLB with a 2.20 ERA, Manoah was 4th with 2.24. And Manoah had a 2.33 BB/9 AND ONLY 8.24 K9. Cole was 6th in IP n had a 3.50 ERA in a down year. Manoah was not only 4th in era but 9th in IP, Cease was 19th. Cease was 2nd to Alcantrera in pitcher bWar, Manoah 5th U smoking crack or just not understand baseball??
Oh yea. And ur stupid hr remark. Cease was 10th In HR/FB and Manoah was 6th.
These are all in MLB not just AL. Get a clue bro
@@metabreaker1185 man he gives passes to the 3rd n 4th best pitchers in MLB in terms of run prevention. What an idiot. Cole was 19th in MLB in bb/9 and Manoah 24th while sporting a 2.24 ERA and 0.99 WALKS PLUS INNINGS PITCHED. How is that walking to many? How is 16 HR in 32 Games too much?? It was the same as Alcantrera!! 1 every other game for Cease and Manoah. Do u just make up shit to feel good about urself. That comment tops dumbest thing I've seen today.
easy to have amazing accuracy when you get his ridiculous expanded strike zone
Thanks for all the effort you put into videos ❤
Did u know Mel Ott is my great great grandpa!
Barry was a beast. Love the fact you're not hating on the Era of late 90's baseball
U right! Why hate on people who cheat. Why hate on past, present, and future ruskies for cheating in the Olympics. Give them back their gold!
@@richardjames5013 everyones on steroids bro
Nope. Lotta playas did it the right way. Ken Griffey jr
@@richardjames5013 just because people don't get caught doesn't mean they weren't doing the same thing. Testing was bogus unless they picked a scapegoat like Bonds

This joke was funnier the first 17 times i saw it in this comment section. Tight fit getting on that bandwagon, huh?
@@fuktrumpanzeeskum I posted it as soon as the video came out 😂
Johnny Bench, Greg Maddux, and Yogi Berra all should have made it
If this guy took his top 25 players and made that into a MLB roster, as great as they are, they wouldn't win many games.
Lol
Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax deserve to be on that list over Bonds!! At least Nolan performed well in the playoffs! Sat down 12 Mets in the NLDS!!
Pete Rose for sure. But this list must've been hard to make.
@LogicallyKnot he has been to a world series and winning championships don't matter that much. if you think championships are so important than all of the 2010 2012 and 2014 giants would be there
Great list, I would have had Rube Waddell, Sandy Koufax, and Ichiro Suzuki on mine. I'm sure some people are raging at Barry Bonds #1
You just won the Best post on this topic. Excellent comment.
how do u leave out Pete Rose?! He has the most hits of all time
Cause he wasn't as good as these players. Naked batting average isnt that great
Probably preferred to list team members who didnt bet against their own team I guess.
@@themaestro3034 he didnt bet against his team tho
@@samv1010 sure he didnt. I have a bridge to sell you, too
Yes Rose has the most hits.
Shocked Nolan Ryan isn’t on this list
Ryan was great but not better than any of the pitchers listed here. Just look at his stats, walked a ton of guys, gave up a ton of hits, wild pitches like crazy, no Cy Youngs...he was good but not top 25 good.
Nolan Ryan was by far the greatest power pitcher of all time nobody will beat his so re ord no hitters and he's average you say oh my God unsubsidized now
@@kennymitchell1730 eh?
Did Nolan ryan had the fastest fastball because I thought he did.
@@Nas-uf4Aroldis Chapman at 105mph.
I think Nolan Ryan should be on that list. He didn't play on all the great teams which make some of his win/loss numbers look bad, but I think he is likely one of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game. Still a good list.
@Ryan Schilling he should have won it when he set the record for strikeouts in a season. 383 still a record
AND… The Babe didn’t need performance Enhancing Drugs to dominate the game either ;)
Agreed. The only player of comparable dominance was Cobb. But this is a young guy compiling this, and he excuses steroids. The raw numbers don't matter: it's how they stacked up against the competition.
He ha something special ....his eyes...No one else could see the ball like he could and he gave the kids shoes...
Tom Seaver is so underrated. His winning percentage is over 100 points over his team's winning percentage - the highest in MLB history. Don't apologize because you are a Met fan. He deserves the recognition.
Joey Wendle snubbed.
I kinda of expected Pete Rose to make the list 🤔
Great player but a bit of an accumulator. Doesn’t hold up against the guys in this video
@@jaimelannister1797 accumulator? Rose was the best player in one of the best baseball teams of all time
@@earam88 Pete rose wasn’t even the best player on his own team. Morgan was better
Yes he racked up over 4k hits but a career .784 OPS doesn’t knock anyone else off this list, at least not when you also aren’t one of the greatest fielders or base runners of all time too.
Plus Rose was an all star at what 6 different positions? That's insane
25 of the all time players is a very hard list to make, but I think that you done a good job at it even though you gotta have Pete Rose aka Charlie Hustle aka the hit king in there somewhere
As a big reds fan, I would honestly disagree, I personally think he’s the third or fourth best red of all time behind Morgan, Frank, and Bench
@@jacoblangguth5125 I'd put Bench in my top 25 he's considered to be the best catcher in history
@@jacoblangguth5125 I'm a reds fan too, but don't tell anyone lol
@@arnoldcox9128 I agree he's the best catcher of all-time. I think he is the second best for both offense and defense for catchers (behind Piazza and Molina respectively), but both Piazza and Molina were significantly worse than Bench in the opposite side of the ball that he clears them both easily.
@@jacoblangguth5125 I wish I could have watched Bench play in person, but I'm a youngster . I loved watching Piazza and Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez at the plate
Willie Mays’ catch at the polo grounds was only possible due to Mays’ skills and the architecture of the Polo Grounds
We want Ruth at #1
u gotta include greg maddux on this list. right up there with randy and pedro.
How can you have a greatest all time list and not have the kid ken Griffey jr not be on the list.
It kind shocks me that neither Greg Maddux nor Nolan Ryan are on this list
Love the channel. Just found you like an hour ago. Can't get enough. Love it bro!
Ruth #1.
I think Roberto Clemente definitely should have made the top 25, best right fielder of all time
That’s hank aaron
everyone on this list is great but Ruth and Bonds really did put up video game numbers
Counting stats wise Bonds is most definitely that greatest player ever, but with steroids thrown in I can't bring myself to say he is, I would put Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Babe Ruth over him because they were naturally good.
Ohtani #1
Bob Gibson was not the only reason the mound was lowered. Offense was at an all time low across both leagues in 1968 that’s why they changed it. The average OPS that year was .639
I know you didn’t use OPS as there reason for a change in 1968. Nobody cares about OPS back then 😂
@@GiraffeNeckMarcI was just using the simplest stat for modern day fans to understand.
@@jaimelannister1797 chill
@@jaimelannister1797 I respect the statistical retort
@Proxima B no it wouldn’t because the league average OPS+ would always be 100. That doesn’t mean anything in this situation because Im comparing the difference between eras
Leaving Nolan Ryan off this list is criminal he had over 5700 strikeouts 7 no hitters and the man literally has the record for holding the most records
Except all of those are because he played 27 years
Except that he’s not top 50 in WHIP, ERA+, is the walk king, never won a CY young. Nolan Ryan is definitely great, but he’s also overrated by the simple statistics you listed.
@@RyanSchilling-fg9qn well you have to be good enough to play 27 seasons how many guys can truly say they stayed in shape enough to last 27 years in the league and still preform at a high level
Ryan is definitely an honorable mention, but not better than Clemens, Kershaw, Gibson, or The Big Unit. Those guys didn’t just let people on base for free
How the hell Shohei Ohtani isn't in there when he won World Baseball Classic which is more important than World Series, while doing something that someone hasn't done since Babe Ruth? 🤔
Because he is so new to the game that he shouldn’t be considered for list yet. Let’s say he retires tomorrow he won’t make hall of fame cause career was too short he will be top 25 some day just not yet let’s have him play more
Also if you are using the world baseball classic as to why he should be here then there is something wrong with your judgment.
koodos for including the roided guys, it was part of baseball, the league gained popularity and made money during that era, and let's be honest we all loved it
Ruth is the best ever, hands down.
certainly the best all-around.
It's not even close. To put a roid head above Babe Ruth or even on a list at all unless you're making a list of cheaters is some disgusting shit. If Babe had a 55 gallon drum of d-bol and almost 13k plate appearances like Bonds he would have hit 3000 HRs.
Mariano Rivera missing the list hurts my soul
idk if its possible to hit today's fastball with mel otts swing lol
I would like to slide one in Mariano Rivera.
Tony Gwynn not on this list makes zero sense.
Not having Cal Ripken Jr on this list seems criminal…
Nah the bottom of his Career he's wasn't good at all. Playing him hurt the team but they had to keep his streak alive.
Yes I love the Mel Ott love! Feel like he is always forgotten about on these type of lists!
Walk man
Who did Mel Ott play four?
Ruth deserves #1. He was an all-star pitcher, then he consistently hit more HRs a season than any other team.
He also set the example for how to behave while not playing - party hard and make people laugh, but treat everyone with respect and be kind to kids.
Remember watching Ted William's last at bat of his career. Walked up to the plate and hit it out of the park. Can't make that stuff up!
Marc: no one has made catches like that to this day!
Jim Edmonds: Am I a joke to you?!
