    “Only” being able to throw 78mph as a freshman in high school is not slow. Many guys physically mature a lot after age 14. A 14-year old is basically a child.

    • @stewartj3407

      Exactly. “Only”? Hell I thought I could throw a baseball hard, but even as a senior I couldn’t throw that hard. I was in the 75 range. But I wasn’t a pitcher and baseball wasn’t even my primary sport.

      Bauer turned 15 in January of 9th grade [ie before baseball season]. Virtually every boy has reached puberty by 15. But you are right that there's a lot of physical maturation after freshman year in most boys. Some have reached their adult height before beginning high school.

    MLB: Does nothing.

But it’s also worth noting that where the case stands right now, no charges have been filed and it hasn’t gone to court. On the surface, the circumstances that this video alleges he dealt with growing up would understandably affect someone's emotional maturity and social intelligence. This video is the firsht time I've heard backstory and I don't know if it's sources are credible. For argument's sake, I'm just going to assume that he really was picked on by classmates, teammates, teachers, and coaches.
      Assuming that's true, it's either a very unfortunate and unfair circumstance that made him into the person he is or he was already that way and that's the reason that he was, in his mind, singled out, picked on and ridiculed by everyone. If he was a selfish, spiteful, disrespectful, know-it-all little turd, it's understandable that he would be "picked on" not only by his peers, but by authority figures who are entrusted to nurture kids development. Typically, bad actors in those roles are exposed and removed from their positions.
      Admittedly, I'm arriving at this conclusion without knowing anything more than what the video stated, but for me, it sounds like he was as unlikable then as he is now. It certainly doesn't excuse teachers and coaches stooping to the level of bullying a child but it certainly would explain it.

I hope he’s wisely invested the money he’s gotten. the problem with major league baseball is they’re stuck in the 1800s. anything new or innovative immediately gets shit on. look at the guy who did Moneyball with the Oakland A’s. Now everybody else is using metrics to the point where some truly awful players are rigging their own metrics to make sure that they get ridiculous contracts for how untalented they really are.

    I can relate to him on the early parts of his life. The bullying just adds on and on, until the smallest things, can make you snap. I gets so bad that you can’t tell the difference if someone is being nice and giving you a compliment or if they are picking on you. The same thing with the school situation happens to me and some of my friends. You would go from elementary to middle, middle to high school, high school to college, and every where you go, you can’t escape it.

    • @j50wells
      @j50wells 3 года назад +70

      I've been there. Someone looks at you wrong and you're ready to go, but not because you are bad, but rather you've been beaten, ridiculed, mocked, and ostracized for years and years and years. To self-persevere, you can become extremely aggressive at even the slightest offense. I'm an older man and I still have to practice a lot of self-control if someone insults me in a bar or says something rude to me out on the street. This all stems from my k-12 experience. And I don't like the commentator of this video acting as if Trevor deserves to get bulled because "he was weird, eccentric, out of touch, and unathletic". Wow, so there's a justification of bullying someone who's a little different? Okay, that just gives the eccentric more ammunition to become more aggressive.

Honestly I just began to not give a shit about the jabs being thrown my way because I knew it was going to be coming anyways. I never had any huge outbursts, I just started to seclude myself more and more which if you think about it is about as bad as having the aggression of someone like Bauer. it's just that the negative effects aren't the same.
      As far as the issue of "Trevor deserved to get bullied" I'll look at it this way, Once you get to the point where you're at least out of college and doing things at a professional level, people can't really handle a guy who just does whatever and doesn't listen to others and part of that just becomes a game to Bauer. He wants to see how much he can piss people off by being as much of a dick as he can be.
      Early in his life he probably had OCD but it payed off but the consequences seem to be that he's become an asshole. An asshole that can pitch. and throw a ball from foul pole to foul pole in a one hop.

    Trevor Bauer is from the pronation school of pitching. Texas Baseball Ranch or (TBR) was a pitching camp near Conroe, TX that had exclusive training camps for people of all ages. The most notable coach there was Brent Stromberg (Coach Strom) who coached for the cardinals for a long time and also the Astros when they won the world series. TBR is closed now but was owned by Ron Wolforth. I went to TBR four times and was also made fun of for my unorthodox training and warmup routines as they were taught to me at TBR. Really cool to see Bauer playing. Pronation eliminates elbow pain if anyone ever wants to look into it. It's why bauer should theoretically never get Tommy Johns.

    Slight correction: he didn't want the MLB to "crack down" on cheating, he just wanted them to be consistent in enforcing their rules. He initially didn't want to cheat because he felt he'd be unfairly targeted and punished for it, while other pitchers remained unpunished. He eventually realized the only way to get the MLB to notice was to take over the league by cheating himself, which is what he did with the Reds. He was quoted, I can't find it at the moment, but basically he said he either wanted the league to enforce the ban or overturn it. It helps to have some insight behind the story of TB. I'm not going to lie, since I heard about the allegations of his sexual encounters I have been a certified TB hater (I have my reasons, sexual violence was prominently around me as a child).
    Not that anyone asked, but I too was bullied out of playing high school baseball and never played again. I had the drive, the commitment, but I gave it all up too soon. Trevor on the other hand seemingly wanted to prove to others and mostly himself that he could do it, regardless of the noise around him. I also had and still have a bit of an anger problem.
    The fact that as a child and young adult his own teammates and coaches did nothing to help build this kid up speaks to how he wanted to prove everyone wrong. Imagine doing years' worth of research on your own development when it comes your own body, just to have some coach who barely knows you telling you what's best. I'd be pissed too if nobody ever wanted to listen to me - not that it excuses his behaviors on and off the mound.
    Knowing that he was a literal nerd (me too) and that his research is backed by science, how can you really debate?
    The high speed motion cameras and adaptive technologies he was using are being used by every club in baseball, and I have a feeling that once Cleveland saw the benefits of his regimen, the rest of the league grew wiser in regard to pitcher/player development.
    It's really hard to get on the TB bandwagon, I've been a fan of the sport since I was a sperm cell and I know every team in every year has had a bad apple or two - having a little more background knowledge about him quite literally made me dig deep and find some empathy for the guy.
    The world will never know the honest truth behind the allegations. The American courts are a clownshow, you can get out of anything with a little grey area and a lot of capital.
    But I think I can finally stop being a hater, especially since I can see a striking similarity in the two of us.
    And maybe that is why I hated on him so strongly to begin with, maybe I saw myself in him at times.
    I hope you find the peace you're looking for, TB.

    5:52 "Playing shortstop instead of shagging fly balls in the outfield like the rest of the pitchers" In a nutshell, that was my issue with baseball. Once labeled as a "pitcher" you could only do "pitcher" things. Shortstop could play second or third or even outfield, but pitchers were typically never aloud to try a different position, unless you were the coach's kid. Lots of really stupid, small mindedness in baseball. Lack of flexibility in the game. Basically, by age 12 you were assigned a position some inexperienced coach thought you should play based on everyone else and what they should be playing. Tall kid at first, fat kid catching or playing 3rd, chirpy kid at ss or center, smallest kid at second or deep right. Athletic kid pitching or cf.

      I kind of had the reverse in my LL days. Played every position except pitcher, wherever I was needed really. Spent most of my time either in SS, 2nd or CF. All I ever really wanted to do was pitch. Our team had an abundance of pitchers though so it seemed like I'd never get the chance. Then before one game we had a few people out and no one to pitch so I was going to get a chance. I was absolutely thrilled as y older brother and best friend were both pitchers, bro in HS and my friend was my teammate, his Mom one of the coaches. It got to the point where we about to start, I was warming up and one of the usual pitchers showed up late and I never got my chance. Fucked up thing was the kid who just got there didn't even get to warm up and ended up hurting himself though the game got called early for rain.

    • @gadget00
      @gadget00 2 года назад

      if you do have a future in baseball, you have to adjust perfectly to a role as early as possible, but that role can change over time. Mo Rivera started as a central fielder until a scout noticed how hard he threw the ball and made him consider switching to pitcher. If you're not that good, then hey you can play and be the umpire and the announcer if you want to, no one will stop you because no one cares. Have a blast; I know I had a blast when I played in little league LOL
      On the other side, nowadays that's a problem because in little league almost no kid goes to play 'for fun' anymore; you either want to go to MLB or your father wants you to. Otherwise, you probably would be playing another sport

Maybe it was all to prove Cole was cheating but whatever, he exposed the whole cheating thing. He has moments where he shows some really cool stuff that gives fans awesome insider stuff.
    But then his Twitter thing is unacceptable. The hate that girl got for saying she didn't like him was unreal. He has a massive history of being a misogynist. His mission to prove he is the smartest man alive is ridiculous. Some moments he really needs to STFU. So many really shitty moments where he looked like a bad person.

    Bauer's experience sounds a lot like what Jim Bouton dealt with when he was playing in the late 60s and early 70s. Diversity of thought is stamped out by management of mlb and its teams. But it infiltrates all levels of baseball; I saw it in Little League and travel ball when my kid was 10, 11, 12 years old.

      I don't think I've ever really noticed that before. Out of the three main leagues in the US (MLB, NFL and NBA), baseball is the least willing to change. The NFL is always experimenting (for lack of a better word), with rules and equipment in an attempt to increase player safety. The NBA is always discussing the future of the league. But with baseball, there is a massive emphasis on tradition, how old the teams are, how old rivalries are, curses and not changing the Unwritten Rules.
