Philly fans are my favorite fans, they love all of their teams and hate all of their players. I'm pretty sure they've thrown rocks at the city orchestra's 2nd chair cello player at this point
It's not possible to be over-rated with 2 MVP awards that were 110% deserved. He's got over 40 WAR in 10 seasons, on pace for 80-90 WAR in his career. It's not Mike Trout levels, but it is HOF level. Have you seen Bryce's numbers this year? He's making a push to legit defend his MVP crown. That's rare. Shoehei Ohtani is also looking like defending his MVP. His hitting is down, his power is a bit down, but have you seen his pitching numbers? He's almost thrown enough innings to qualify for ERA leaderboard. He's at like 75 IP or something headed into July, and he's only allowed 1 ER in his last 27 innings. He might actually get some Cy young votes this year. He ain't gonna win it, that's gonna be Verlander or Perez, but man is he gonna get some lower ballot votes.
@@craigwheeler4760 Harper would have had a crazy follow up campaign. He would have hit 40 homeruns and had like 130+ RBIs. Plus the way the Phillies are playing right now, he would have a legitimate shot at a playoff run.
@@xdewy not just in baseball either. ppl already are jealous of talent and they feel like it isn't fair, they actually expect the talented person to tone it down. If a talented person not only ignores that unwritten rule but raises their level of aggression way up then they are always going to get crucified by regular people. Laws of human emotion, double standards, a regular American's life is all about being competitive and getting ahead but if someone can do that so much better that it isn't competitive anymore, then the regular person's entire world view is obliterated. They %100 must obliterate the "cheater" to get their life back to normal. I mean if a fan's house payment was made or lost on their ability to play baseball, most professional baseball players would end up murdered. No joke.
Baseball has so many strange unspoken rules since it’s an old sport. Like you can’t even celebrate getting a home run or do the ultimate crime of looking at a ball go out of the park for too long. Ding, you’re getting beamed at 93 miles per hour. Apparently pitchers have very thin skins.
Been happening a bit recently in hockey...but that's mainly old washed-up commentators getting mad that today's young players can do things that players in bygone years just didn't have the skill to do.
So let me get this straight… looking at a home run too long is deemed unprofessional by the same people who vote on the most overrated player in the league?
Man.. baseball is one of the most ridiculous sports in existence when it comes to these irrationally petty unwritten rules. Especially when it comes to pitchers. Pitchers have the most fragile egos and see themselves as the ones holding the projectile. Show too much emotion, flip your bat too hard, trot too slow, admire your hit too long, make it apparent in ANY way that perhaps the pitcher isn’t in full control of his stuff that day, and there’s a good chance you are getting hit your next at bat. Or, if they don’t want to jeopardize their starter or one of their premier relievers, they will just send out one of their worst in the pen later in the game specifically to hit you, get him thrown out, and then back to baseball. Then you have no stealing bases with a lead OR if you are “too far behind”, no over-celebrating a strikeout, don’t beat your opponents “too bad”, don’t step on the chalk OR step through the pitchers mound EVER, always run as hard as you can even if you grounded to first, never rub the spot you got beaned.. I could go on and on. By far (in my opinion) the worst of them all is: don’t swing on a 3-0 pitch if you are up big (like up by 6 after the 6th inning). This is right there with no stealing with the lead, but worse. The idea is that you don’t want to hurt the other team’s feelings and beat them too bad. And obviously on 3-0 the pitcher is most likely going to throw a fastball strike. What is crazy though is that the other team isn’t just going to give up. So it’s like you are supposed to wait until the other team does everything in their power to crawl back into the game before trying again. So stupid. Just go watch Jomboy breakdown the Tatis jr. grand slam to see how low baseball is willing to go when it comes to making sure everyone feels like a winner. Baseball is honestly such a crapshow..
@@matthewmccann7108 and this is why baseball is losing fans. God forbid people have fun. Pitchers get to celebrate, so should hitters. It’s more fun for fans, teams and players.
Considering the amount of pressure that was placed on him at such a young age, I honestly think he's really grown as a person. Most of his antics that made some question his character were on the field-type of things. Being a Phillies fan, I think he really brings a level of competitiveness that the fans love, which is why he's a fan favorite here.
Hes earned his praise here. Alot of guys think you can walk into Philly a star and get praised. You have to earn it here. Hes also been pretty quiet since Joe started managing the team. Hes also a dad now. So, I imagine his perspective on life has changed a bit.
Honestly, I have a hard time getting mad at a professional player for being 'overly' competitive or getting heated over bad calls. This is essentially been their entire life, so its understandable to get mad about something you care about a lot. If anything, it bothers me a bit when players have no reaction at all, almost like they are just there for the paycheck and don't care about the outcome. And honestly, being cocky, while not an amazing character trait, is pretty entertaining to watch as a fan. A league without 'vilains' and drama wouldn't be as fun imo.
Billy Beane has talked about how he knew he wasn't ready for baseball when he saw how much self-confidence Lenny Dykstra had. So much so that he literally couldn't imagine the idea of himself failing. To hit at an elite level it's almost required to be insane or a huge narcissist.
I don’t watch baseball, but the bm he gives (at least in the video) is not even that disrespectful in my opinion. Just seems like competitive adrenaline or something.
Yeah I guess you will be in the minority on that one. This just solidified his douchieness to me. He is such an asshole and everyone knows that even all of his ex and current teammates.
@@colatf2 people hate him cuz he’s young and talented. Same goes for everyone in every profession. Imagine being passed up by a younger better person at your job. You’d be pissed too
He’s hated in Washington because all those stats yet he never won a playoff series and right after we got rid of him we won a ws with a much better much more likable best hitter
The signed pine tar bat to Ozzie is about the funniest baseball shit I've heard in a while. The whole incident sounded pretty on brand for both of them.
Mad respect to Harper how he responded to getting hit in the face. He sent a message to Genesis Cabrera (the man that hit him) encouraging him to not lose confidence and keep pitching inside.
Going around saying you're better than everyone probably had something to do with it. Which is fine, just don't be surprised when everyone guns for you
@@draneym2003 Bryce barked back. In order to bark back, someone needs to bark at you first. Literally blaming a dude for not rolling over to verbal abuse lmfao
I've personally always loved Harper. He was a kid that was put through an unfathomable amount of hate and heckling, yet still managed to perform at an elite level most people could only dream of in the best of circumstances
I don't get why just because you're a fan of the sport you can just ignore bad people. Maybe it's cause I don't watch baseball, but to me I don't give a shit about how good he is at the game, it's literally a fucking game, he's a bad person. Would you say the same if someone in Esports behaved like this and everyone excused him because he was good?
@@jamiesmith4757 No, I have no problem with that, that is what makes sports interesting. Attacking or hurting people is the problem. The people who purposefully threw the ball at him are in the wrong too, I'm just slightly more sympathetic.
Just shows you how many overinflated fragile egos are present in the game of baseball. Massive respect for him staying strong against literally the entire industry
I am not huge into baseball, but getting mad at players staring at a homer is the dumbest, most fragile thing. Throwing a fastball at someone is no where near a proportionate response. Have they seen people celebrate in other sports?
The channel that single-handedly made me obsessed with baseball. Went from a casual fan to a die hard fan now. I never miss a game. Videos are so good man
Harper has become more mature and a true leader over the past 2 seasons. He deserves all the credit for being one of the reasons getting Phils into the World Series. I’m so excited to see what he can do for our city next season.
We couldn’t love Harper more in Philly. He and his family represent the city so unbelievably well and he grinded to get Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos to Philly. Here’s to 10 more years and retiring No. 3 after he goes to the Hall of Fame.
@Fries that’s why Phillies owner wanted the extra 3 years to get the AAV down to $28m. I think that’s more than fair for a 26yo perennial MVP candidate.
I'm a long time baseball fan, but some of these "unwritten rules" are ridiculous, like looking at a homerun for too long or taking too long to round the bases. I wish I was talented enough to tell people to F-off, then hit a homerun and slow-jog around the bases while laughing in their face. I've always kind of hated Harper, but this video makes me like him more.
@@swifthennessy1949 Really? You might want to check with your mom about that. The other day I had her screaming so loud that my buddy had to leave the room.
This guy was so insanely talented that everyone basically demanded he bow down to the good old boys club, and went apeshit when he didn't. Guys will hit him with 95mph missiles or taunt him mercilessly then cry foul when he responds. I am a Harper respecter.
Would love to see a part 2 of this now that Harp has become a literal walking legend in Philly. Hopefully the can finally get a ring this year to really round out his story

I took a fly ball to the face despite having my glove up in Little League and was absolutely terrified to play outfield for a good year afterwards. A pro fastball to the face is orders of magnitude worse, so I can only imagine how psychologically damaging that could be. Massive props to Harper for managing to move past it.
I play pitcher and third and I took a come backer to the face well I was pitching I broke my nose and just got up and played the rest of the game lol. Btw I still pitch I love ball
Same had bad line drive bounce ball hit my eyebrow left a cut with a dent. Was pull out by my coach and was hard close my eyes for the first hour. Harper definitely cares about the game more than anything why we true baseball fans like him.
Definitely understand that. I had a similar thing, except it hit my forearm and not my face. It definitely made me more anxious about trying to catch fly balls. I later got beamed right in the hip from a pitch, which at the time I was a twig and so it hit right on the bone with no muscle protecting it, and at that point I just found myself no longer enjoying playing baseball and stopped playing after that year.
took a couple fly balls to the face playing house league over the years. Most embarrassing part of it was showing up to school the next day with the baseball stitches imprinted on my face
This video in summary : Bryce Harper is very good at baseball, so everyone had it out for him. Opposing teams hated him because he was so good & same for opposing fans. So Harper getting nothing but hate has simply led to him reciprocating the energy back to everyone else. He’s also extremely competitive so plays with a ton of energy. In other words, a bunch of grown ass men were acting like babies bc Bryce Harper is good at baseball and a competitive athlete
I definitely like a class act over a hothead (mike trout vs Harper) but honestly the passion and work ethic Harper plays with most of the time is respectable and I honestly like it. He's been getting hate since forever and it's pretty hard to not be a 'villain'. He's definitely not over rated by any means
It's like finding out your favorite musician is a pompous douche. Not the end of the world, nothing overtly criminal but just makes them seem a bit less likeable. But the songs still go hard.
I'll never understand the "old guard" MLB mentality of treating a phenom with such scrutiny just because he's "too young" to be as good as he is. The veterans get all butt hurt over this for some reason. He's intense, he's young, has an amazing swing - you should be celebrating that instead of getting jealous.
@@sea_triscuit7980 Which I don't mind at all. I welcome steroids into the sports realm. Not only do I pay to witness competition, but I'll concede that for entertainment - juiced-up monsters hitting 100 HRs a year.
Coming from a motorsport background it's really baffling. A lot of the time in F1 especially you get periods where a single team dominates the Constructors Championship for years at a stretch, oftentimes with a single driver on that team dominating the Driver's Championship as well. There really is no bitterness between teams or drivers when one phase bleeds into another, as that's just the nature of the sport: teams rise and fall, new drivers come up and old drivers go down, and the show goes on. When Lewis Hamilton matched the record set by Michael Schumacher of winning seven Drivers Championships Michael congratulated him in person, despite the fact that Mike drove for Ferrari while Lewis drives for their bitter rival Mercedes. The late legendary Niki Lauda came out of a long retirement from motorsport to serve as a technical advisor for Mercedes and help foster the talent of Hamilton and his teammate Valtteri Bottas, again despite making his chunk of history with Ferrari back in the 70s. There's a general understanding that the best way to get butts in seats is to put on a good show, and that means nurturing the legends of tomorrow, old guard helping the new. People don't show up for races that happened years ago, they show up for races that are happening today. History doesn't sell tickets, and MLB has best learn that lesson before history is all it has.
@@PerkyPineapple What does that matter? He statistically produces some of the best baseball of a generation. I must have missed when baseball became a soap opera and not baseball.
Alright quick story...my juco coach played against Albert Pujols in college. My coach played for Highland County Community College in the Jayhawk conference. A little background...At Highland County's baseball behind left center there is about 50ft of grass, a sidewalk, a road and then houses. I believe Albert played for Longview just outside KC-MO. Anyways during his first at bat he struck out...the catcher for Highland, KS told him "You should go D1, not pro" The next at bat Pujols smokes a ball over left center past the grass, the sidewalk, the road and lands on the roof of a house...Pujols rounds the bases gets to home plate and slams his foot on home plate looks the catcher directly in the eye and says "Fuck D1 I'm going pro bitch!" Now that's 🥶
I’m a life long Yankee fan. For a while I had a pretty contemptuous relationship with my dad. While we were trying to reconnect we went to citi field for a Mets nats game. I remember it was one of Jose Reyes first games back after being traded back to the Mets. I was hoping to see 2 things. Bryce Harper hit a homer and Jose Reyes hit his first homer back as a met. I forget the order but both happened, and the homer Bryce hit was a fuckingBOMB like 450. I remember seeing the replay and telling my dad “look how far he hit that ball, we watched that” it’s one of my favorite memories in my entire life
You left out a huge detail about the Cabrera incident. That same night he messaged the pitcher who had hit him in the face and made peace, even asking if he wanted to talk about it. That was an *incredibly* classy move on his part, especially with what he'd just experienced.
Cabrera was having a terrible night, immediately nailing Gregorious in the ribs afterward, which should be your cue to get off the mound lest a Phillies fan shoots you in the parking lot.
@@artstsym Which he couldn't do thanks to the 3 batter minimum rule, otherwise Shildt said he would have taken him out after that first pitch; he could tell Cabrera was shaken up pretty bad by that.
Looking "too long" at a monster home run will get you beaned in MLB. Yet dunking on a guy and posterizing him in the NBA is just another day in the life. Baseball is fraught with "unwritten rules" designed to protect the feelings of underperfoming players--guys that just need to grow up and deal with it!
I love the unwritten rules in baseball. The majority of the effect they have ends up bringing teams together, having teammates standing up for each other, and providing interesting drama(I do admit there are occasional drawbacks but there is far more good produced by them IMO). Also, I honestly think it ends up devaluing celebrations in football for instance when every tackle turns into an impromptu 45 second rap video.
I dunno. Every sport is trying to tamp down the taunting. If you dunk on a dude, you can't get in his face about it. If you make a great tackle in football, you can't stand over the dude and rub it in. The problem with baseball is that the "unwritten rules" go one way: a batter can't admire his homer or pimp it on his trot, but pitchers can scream and pump their fists after a big strikeout.
You didnt mention one of the best parts. After being hit in the face by that pitch, Genesis Cabrera (the pitcher) was shook up pretty bad and Bryce turned the whole situation by saying it was all good and there were no hard feelings. Lots of fans respected the hell out of him for that, especially in STL.
I thought so as well... and was also impressed when then Cardinals Manager Mike Schildt disclosed he called up Genesis Cabrera to tell him he was ok and to ask how Genesis was doing. Related - I can't believe STL fired him. I WISH he was the manager of my favorite team. Good dude.
Well, it was obvious to Harper that it wasn't intentional. I'd bet after so many intentional beans, he was somewhat relieved that one pitcher legit messed up.
@@kierasher1 I'm sure he was also very relieved his skull wasn't fractured. With how serious and dark this incident COULD have turned out, Harper was likely way too consumed with that thought above anything else.
The single most amazing moment in baseball, and I played it in HS and watched MLB my whole life, was Harper when he was a National coming to the plate as a pinch hitter (he had the night off) with bases loaded, ninth inning, Nats down by 4. He fouled off five or six pitches, ran the count to 3-2, and then launched a gigantic bomb over the 400 foot center field fence. I’ve never seen a baseball moment-in person-with more drama. Truly a “Casey at the bat” moment and he delivered. Nats ended up winning in 12th or 13th inning on a walk-off home run.
Ive always loved Bryce. It seems like almost every problem hes been involved in is him just responding to someone. Dont fuck with him if you dont want the smoke.
@@informantfred1853 there is a reason why. If you follow baseball or the teams he has been on you know that he is the instigator. He is a cocky little shit head. He is the least humble person on the planet. Terrible quality to have. That's why his teammates never want anything to do with him now matter how good he is and that's saying a lot because most people will look the other way if you're an all-star. Not in his case though.
I’ve known of him since we were both 12 playing travel. Since then, he’s been the best player I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen him dominate all 9 positions, 5 HR games, 96 mph fastball, best catcher in nation, he is the definition of baseball. I love the passion tbh, he’s killed it for 15+ years in front of the world and still no love.
Yeah half the time they’re just really good at the game and talk shit that they can back up, which obviously gets the people who are worse at the sport butthurt lmao.
Phillies fan here- used to hate Harper. Since he got here, he has matured a lot. It is impossible for Phillies fans to not love him now. Dude is just an elite competitor.
We really love him here in Philly. He’s indoctrinated himself into Philly sports culture better than any other big acquisition I can think of. Maybe Moses Malone and that’s probably it.
back in 2014 i was in seattle and the nats were visting. there was one fan jeering "HAAAAARPERRRRRRR" every single pitch he was up. in the first inning, he smashed a home run. the fan didnt stop. next time harper was up, he smashed a home run off the hit it here cafe (which, for anyone who has seen a game in seattle, is pretty fucking far out). as harper rounded third base, he pointed out to the fan. the fan was silent the rest of the game. one of my favorite all time baseball memories
I love Bryce Harper, dude is the meaning of "I love this sport" even if people see him as a bad guy, I just see him as an amazing player who loves what he does and stands for it
I’m a Phillies fan. I went from hating him so much to him becoming my favorite player. He’s definitely matured, but the work ethic and leadership he brings takes his electric, game changing play over the top for me
I never hated him, I never understood booing him because he was “overrated” because that’s not his fault, but as a Phillies fan, there is nobody on earth I’d rather have on my team then Bryce
I've always liked Harper personally. You can never accuse the guy of doing less than his best and you can tell he cares about the sport. I was watching the game when he got hit in the face by my Cardinals and was horrified. I know it wasn't intentional at all (our pitching was atrocious at the time), but I remember being terrified that they badly hurt one of the greats in the game.
Wow I literally never realized how hated Bryce Harper actually is. I'm a Mets fan and am tired of him being in my division, but other than that I love him. I love how good he is, I love how he plays, and I love his tenacity. May be hard to hear it but Bryce is so good for baseball.
fans are morons. most people hate on players because they expect them all to just keep their mouths shut, swing or throw a ball, and head back to the dugout without showing any emotion. it's ridiculous. players apparently can't show any emotion but fans can do all the bullshit they want because "they paid to watch the game." The entitlement of some fans is so obnoxious
He just does things to antagonize people, not even in a sporting way. That bit with him dragging his feet across the Braves logo was a perfect example. He'd been boo'ed as usual, but nothing personal, and nothing on the field. He just did it to be an asshole.
I’m with you, also as a Mets fan. He seems to have taken the shit in stride. We’ve seen what happens when players are overhyped and don’t live up to it. This guy has two MVP’s before age 30, and has always been a gamer.
Heard about Bryce while he was still in HS. It's been fascinating to watch his success and development in the bigs. He's a true baseball player and extremely gifted. He's exactly what baseball needs more of.
Bryce Harper is always seen at the Little League World Series, sitting w/ the teams who are in the stands that are playing next, talking w/ the kids, hanging out w/ them, signing autographs, paying it back and fwd. I hope Bryce Harper and the Phils get the ring in '24
What you do is phenomenal. The research you must put into this is insane. The music is excellent, the stories all seem to connect with me personally, and the thought that goes into picking unique players to profile shows just a fantastic level of creativity and a fierce passion for this game that has been relegated as America's past-time by the gridiron.
As a Phillies fan, I have so much respect for Harper. He’s overly competitive, but what’s the point if the players don’t care about the game? I’ve seen him stretch singles into doubles countless times and it makes me panic every time, and yet he’s always safe at second base. The other players who try it get out. And yet for some odd reason he’s hated for trying too hard. After he hurt his hamstring sprinting out a game-ending groundball this year, people bashed him for trying so hard he got injured. People hate other players for not caring enough, and yet they hate Harper for caring too much. He wants to win more than anything. And yet I would still say he’s one of the classiest players I’ve ever seen, particularly in the clubhouse. He’s always the first guy to welcome new teammates and make them feel included. He has his locker next to the entrance so he can always be the first one to greet the new guys, and he always offers to take them out to dinner and get to know them as a friend. He treats his teammates all as his equals and is the first to cheer them up if they’re disappointed in themselves. He’s a huge team player and truly one of the classiest players I’ve ever seen. Even if he’s overrated as a player, he’s underrated as a person. He doesn’t get enough credit for how much effort he puts into each and every game and for how much kindness he offers to his teammates.
Harper is exactly the kind of ball player Phillies fans love. He's always giving his ALL. He'll be OK in Philly. Phillies fans will never boo a dirty uniform (or the man in it.)
Somebody with two MVP awards cannot be overrated. He was hated by a lot of people, including some of the people voting for the MVP, but his two MVP seasons were so awesome they had to give it to him. Last year he nearly drug his team to the playoffs. They would not have had a winning record if he had not been on the team. So many of his RBIs, his home runs and doubles, gave his team the lead.
A year ago, my interest in baseball was slipping. The Yankees were inconsistent as all hell, and the greed of players and owners during that time made me sick to my stomach. This channel saved baseball for me. The incredibly-written scripts, the commentary, the footage, this is what a real channel should be like. Thank you for saving my love for the beautiful game of baseball ❤
Would be amazing if you made a video on how you come up with your scripts and video ideas. It's almost like you build a narrative and story in chronological order around almost purely fun facts. I've never seen anything like it before, but it has to be one of the BEST formats ever figured out. It keeps people watching, and it's allowed me to show friends that aren't baseball fans your videos and watch them all the way through. It's like, a documentary that's just pumped full of concise points, and every video is amazing.
He has found a way to turn a sport I've found boring into some extremely interesting videos. And the way he says every minor fact as if it is the most insane, unbelievable statistic really works.
One thing about sports fanbases that rubs me the wrong way is how they view players who leave in free agency. GMs and owners can trade, release, and underpay their players and get little to no flack for it. But a player, at the end of his contract, isn't allowed to change teams when his current team can't pay him what he's worth? Specific to Harper's situation, he said in an interview that the Nats flat out told him that, because of other contracts, they weren't going to be able to pay him anything near market value and essentially pushed him out the door. I just don't see how that's Harper's fault if you're a Nats fan upset that he left.
@@denningfamily2145 I'm a Phillies fan and I always hated how badly Jayson Werth was treated after he joined the Nats. He was booed by Phillies fans his entire career after he left, and I hope Harper doesn't have to endure that too.
People who are only familiar with professional sports will never understand how a great athlete can be a villain simply for being good. Honestly names me think of baseball fans actually care about the sport.
Bryce isn't Trout. Trout was underrated till his debut. Unknown and quiet with no spotlight on a middling franchise. Bryce was named the chosen one at 16, had mobs of people booing him since he was a literaral child, and was hated cause of things out of his immediate control. He responded to all of it and worked hard. The dude plays like a man possessed sometimes and was just better than most people. He's a young player who hated the old rules of baseball and in the 2010s that meant you were a villain. Bryce is my favorite player and has been for years. He's like an NBA player in a baseball jersey. He has the talent and charisma to be the lead villain in the league. Like a more self aware kevin durant. He has always been a great player, even in his down years, he's still worth the max deal despite what some baseball fans will say.
Love Harper so much, and even more after watching this. Funny that Arrieta out of all people was calling out Harper for being toxic a few years back. Arrieta was beyond toxic his entire time in Philly.
Lifelong Braves fan here. Hated Bryce for manyi seasons. Absolutely love that man now. Maybe I should clarify: I love him the way Mets fans loved Chipper.
Him dragging his feet over the logo made me laugh so hard!!! LoL 😂 dude’s a savage and just wants to win, and just because of his competitiveness it’s viewed as him being a jerk, but in a sport where an official is the one deciding what’s a ball or strike and can throw a player out of an important game just because of their “feelings” or them feeling as they’re being disrespected, but more often than not it’s just pettiness. imo at least
As a Philadelphia sports fan, if you dont argue with us at least once you might be too soft to exist here. Its just our thing 😂😂😂 Bryce is a monster and we love him

As a Nats fan I have to admit Philly is the perfect place for him. Our fans are massive pussies and our ballpark culture is extremely soft you will literally get kicked out for yelling “crap”.
Also, no matter how you feel about Bryce, the umpires are legitimate trash and I love that he fights with them. They deserve far worse. He's one of the few guys in today's game who would have thrived in decades long past.
I dislike how the umpires seem to be looking to eject Harper, but the way he treats them shouldn’t be applauded. These are human beings and they’re going to make mistakes. They don’t deserve to be abused, even if they aren’t good at their job.
Bryce is my favorite player and actually the man who got me into baseball. I’m a Phillies fan and i couldn't have been more happy when he joined our squad. Regardless of his attitude, I want to be just like him, fearless and a great ball player.

Plus you can’t really blame a guy being pissed at the world when he’s been harassed and hated by it since he was 14 bc he breaks unwritten rules of a “gentleman’s” sport that’s more okay with hurting your opponent than having fun
Confidence is key. I have been hit in the face with a pitch. It knocked out my home row of teeth. Fully convinced myself it will never happen again. First AB back (4-days later), fastball in the earhole. There were times throughout the season my body was freezing to my mind's commands. Never felt anything like it. Can't imagine at the professional level.
I played a lot of baseball and one of my teammates growing up from T-Ball to high school was a pretty big star. Most everyone treated him the same way including myself but looking back, he was actually a good guy but had confidence and skill to back it up while not being dazed by peoples disdain. and I feel guilty for being against him. Weird how humans do that.
Right, I hated my neighbor, we went to school together, but played seperate travel teams cause we played the same position, dads hated eachother over an adult basketball league in 1996, We were same size, both lefties, I just couldn’t stand him, (drafted by angels) but looking back, he was actually a nice ass dude, and I was an Asshole lol. It’s natural for men yk.
I’ve always loved Bryce. It helps that we’re the same age so I grew up the same time he did and saw things through his perspective than say, my older family members that hate him for being cocky. He had to deal with so much shit that he never asked for. Sports Illustrated called him, not the other way around. Everyone in that position would respond to so much pressure the same way if they were continually told they were a bad person or overrated
Thanks very much for this excellent look at a great player and competitor! Balanced analysis and accuracy are becoming so rare, and you captured his abilities and his faults as a player and as a person, but also how he has grown in the face of injuries and off-the-wall hatred (umps, for example). Kudos.
I’m a huge Bryce Harper fan. I met him when he was still playing in the minor leagues and he signed 2 balls and 4 cards for me. He was a super friendly guy.
This video just made me love Bryce Harper even more. I only recently got back into baseball after a recent trip to NY where I caught a Yankees game against the Red Sox so I’ve been following the entire post season and since I’m not invested in any particular team I’ve started to really become a fan of the Phillies and Bryce Harper has been playing on another level. Excited to watch the World Series against the Astros!!!
@@Jet_Rod_94 I never expected them to beat a team that was undefeated in the postseason but they definitely put up a fight. Hola
Hello.
Where do I watch the video? Is it on RUclips? If it is where is it?
Don't care, sincerely, love....baseball.
“Has gotten into verbal confrontation with fans”
Shows him arguing with Phillies fans
Me as a Phillies fans: completely understandable
Philly fans are my favorite fans, they love all of their teams and hate all of their players. I'm pretty sure they've thrown rocks at the city orchestra's 2nd chair cello player at this point
I love how he added the “acoona” video to that part too
If we aren't arguing with our players we don't care about them
100% agree. We are ass holes
I feel this
I love how the spectators say “show some class” after immediately calling him overrated. Makes sense 😂
Sports fans in a nutshell. All of them love to talk shit but if a player responds back
"Hey, show some damn respect you classless clown!"
@@craigwheeler4760 Harper would have had a crazy follow up campaign. He would have hit 40 homeruns and had like 130+ RBIs. Plus the way the Phillies are playing right now, he would have a legitimate shot at a playoff run.

Laws of human emotion, double standards, a regular American's life is all about being competitive and getting ahead but if someone can do that so much better that it isn't competitive anymore, then the regular person's entire world view is obliterated. Baseball is the only sport where people get mad at you for trying too hard.
Happens in basketball
@@rayquaza1245 no it doesn’t not in any serious league.
@@owainraysor5108 Pitchers are the biggest divas in all sports.
Been happening a bit recently in hockey...but that's mainly old washed-up commentators getting mad that today's young players can do things that players in bygone years just didn't have the skill to do.
Bryce Harper: "Breathes"
Umpires: Throws him out
So let me get this straight… looking at a home run too long is deemed unprofessional by the same people who vote on the most overrated player in the league?
Yes.
Man.. baseball is one of the most ridiculous sports in existence when it comes to these irrationally petty unwritten rules.
Yup, literally sums up the answer.

Harper is going to end up being an all time great. Regardless of his antics he’s a legend of this era of Baseball

at the same time, you get booed by fans in the NBA if you try a little too hard if your up by a lot. NBA has some bullshit "unwritten rules" too
I love the unwritten rules in baseball.
@@Benjamin-1776- Damn did you have to get racist at the end tho?
Good dude.

The fact he did all that with a wooden bat in college is a such a disgusting flex and hilarious. Legendary shit ngl.
Wooden bats were mandatory in the conference he was playing.
he wouldn't have been allowed to if it wasn't required, he would literally be screwing over his team by using a weaker bat

I was watching the game when he got hit in the face by my Cardinals and was horrified. I know it wasn't intentional at all (our pitching was atrocious at the time), but I remember being terrified that they badly hurt one of the greats in the game.
This certainly puts his 2022 post season in a new light. Good for him.
Honestly I agree with Harper to some degree. If you hit the ball 450-500 feet you should be able to do what you want.

This is a player with Paul O'Neill's intensity with Nolan Ryan's ire - a nasty combo if you piss him off
Bryce Harper is always seen at the Little League World Series, sitting w/ the teams who are in the stands that are playing next, talking w/ the kids, hanging out w/ them, signing autographs, paying it back and fwd. I hope Bryce Harper and the Phils get the ring in '24
Can’t believe he’s still only 29, he came into the league so young and was great so fast

Ozzie Guillen calling someone "Unprofessional" is the most laughable thing I have heard in a long, long time LOL
Lol seriously. The guy is the most unprofessional manager to ever don the title.
I’m a White Sox fan and I totally agree.
Phillies fans will never boo a dirty uniform (or the man in it.)
thats facts though as a phillies fan myself u could not have said it better
Somebody with two MVP awards cannot be overrated. He was hated by a lot of people, including some of the people voting for the MVP, but his two MVP seasons were so awesome they had to give it to him.
Last year he nearly drug his team to the playoffs. They would not have had a winning record if he had not been on the team. So many of his RBIs, his home runs and doubles, gave his team the lead.

I love Harper. Sometimes sports just need a villan, and Harper has been primed to play that role for forever.
Lucky for Bryce, Philly exists!! We love Bryce and would have gladly paid way more!!!
