An excellent list. A little too much recency bias in the second ten. The only problem I have is that Lefty Grove was not on it. He should have replaced Greg Maddux. Clemens, and both Johnson's and Martinez were right on.
Consider this: Babe Ruth was number one on the list and had the highest OPS of all-time in history against lefthanders at 1130 They walked him 567 times and he struck out 460 times in 3067 plate appearances. Against Lefty Grove in 148 plate appearances Grove struck Babe out 45 times and walked him 13 times. His slugging percentage was 898 even tough. So if Ruth can lead the list, Grove should at least be on it.
And in his career Pedro pitched 2827.1 innings; From 1928-39 (excluding a sore armed season in 1934), Lefty Grove pitched 2826.2 innings. And this is how they compared:
    ..............................Lefty Grove...........................Pedro Martinez
    won-lost record..........235-82...................................219-100
    ERA.............................2.75........................................2.93
    ERA+...........................168.........................................154
    bWAR..........................95.7.........................................86.1
    WAR/250....................8.46.........................................7.61
But wthou question Lefty Grove is the most under-rated superstar in MLB history. And this oversight was merely another example.

He didn't make the top 20 because he isn't even in the top 50. No counts, no rates, a poor runner and worse fielder.
However, he WAS a great batter for average and power, but, that's about it. Consider that Mantle, for example, beats him in literally every single (era-adjusted) category, esp in counts and black-ink, and was a 5-tool player, rather than Albert's 2! (Not that I'd kick A.P. off of my team, but he just isn't a historic-level player.)

As a Cadinals fan wih baseball memories since 1960 or so you included the greatest Cardinals player ever Stan Muial as number 10 which makes me happy. You also included Babe Ruth number one and Willie Mays number two which I agree on as well. My greatest Cardinals players ever that follow Musial are Bob Gibson, Albert Puhols, and Rogers Hornsby. Here is my all-time Cardinals lineup: Brock - LF Hornsby - 2B Musial - RF Puhols - 1B Edmonds - CF Boyer - 3B Molina - C Ozzie Smith -ss Bob Gibson -P My bench is Ted Simmons - c, Frankie Frisch and Red Schoendienst in the infield, Enos Slaugther and Joe Medwick in the outfield.

@@norseman5662 I really liked watching Curt Flood as I was old enough to have baseball memories of the Cards that start in 1960 soon after he was traded to the Cards. I agree with your comment on his defense and he was also a very good hitter. I met him years later at a Baseball card show in St. Louis and he seemed like a great guy. I went more for power in centerfield as well as bating average and defense and I would say that leaving off Curt Flood and Wille Mc Gee in the outfield due to also not having the power hitting of others how I made my cut. These lists, while fun to argue about, are pretty meaningless. First off, pitchers are really their own thing: you can't compare them to batsmen, and the contribution they make to the team is entirely different. Secondly, you really can't compare players across ages with any kind of validity. Best you can do is pick who were the most dominant players from the different eras. So a guy like Cobb should rank higher, for example, than Aaron, because he was clearly better than anyone else around at the time. Aaron had guys like Mays, Mantle, and Robinson around compiling similar records. But in the end, it's just opinions. BTW, Cobb wasnt the slathering racist monster of legend, not did he sharpen his spikes. The dumb lies shouldn't he endlessly repeated. He was just a really smart and aggressive player, and he was highly respected by his competitors.

My thing is back in the day. 1950 and before. The talent was no where near what it is today.. the competition and athleticism was no where near what it is today. Baseball players today are significantly more athletic than those of 60 years ago primarily due to advancements in training methods, nutrition science, better understanding of the human body, increased emphasis on year-round conditioning, and a more competitive landscape where only the most elite athletes make it to the professional level, resulting in a higher overall athletic ability across the league.
