They are dreaming of themselves as "artists", not as craftspeople. But for becoming a successful artist you still have to attract the audience. When you have become popular, then you might go to subvert expectations.
Amandla Stenberg is basically saying 'You can't touch me I'm a narcissistic poor little rich girl, whose white daddy didn't get me the right colour pony , so to get back at him I am now all black, and I can do whatever I want , the Harvey Weinstein P.A. told me so'
let's face it the Acolyte is just gay fan fiction that represents a tiny percentage of real Star Wars fans, and they truly wonder why it's failing?

You can have “representation” in a Star Wars show. I know this statement would shock Leslie Headland and Amandala Whatsername, but it really shouldn’t. We already have it! It’s called Andor. Non-white characters, white characters, strong females, even a lesbian couple. Guess what? Nobody cared because it wasn’t advertised as “the gayest Star Wars ever”. I don’t recall any DEI discussions. It was almost like it was just part of a rich and diverse Star Wars universe and didn’t require beating people over the head about it. Also, there was little to no discussion or negativity about “inclusion”. Sadly, because Disney had already released so much trash up to this point, and it followed directly on the heels of the horrific “Book of Bobba Fett” clown show, that Star Wars fans assumed Andor would be just as terrible. And early reviews called it “boring” because it is a “slow burn” type of show. It’s unfortunate because, to me, Andor was not just a fantastic addition to Star Wars franchise, but just a wonderful piece of entertainment in it’s own right. If you haven’t seen it, you really, really should. Personally, I think they should hand over Star Wars to the team that made Andor (they also made Rogue One, the only decent full feature film Disney Star Wars has made as well). Fire everyone else.

I agree with you. Andor and Rogue One was the way to go. They are capable of making a good movie and show. It’s there, now if only they could realize that sooner than later.
All I can say is that just watching clips of the best parts of the episodes were putting me to sleep.
The Acolyte suffers from bad writing, bad acting, bad casting, bad directing with a poor story line and script. Its failure has nothing to do with racism and bigotry, which is just a scapegoat excuse for Disney to hide behind instead of facing the facts.

I agree with you man, I’ve been done just like you. No subscriptions anymore. I’m honestly so much happier that I’ve moved on from these franchises. Focus on something new and more interesting.
Disney knows the show is weak so want to make the conversation a crusade so they can rally support from people who will overlook the show's failure as a Star Wars project.

Very well articulated commentary you two, I agree 100% on your take. The framing of these critiques as some sort of -ist attack is just patently false. Are there some bigots, of course, but of all those reviews, how many? I venture not as many as people bemoaning the terrible dialogue, character-building, pacing, and broadly the storytelling. All that sits next to what appears to be a rather formulaic story. On that last point, yes, time will tell, but based on what I've seen so far, I am not hopeful. Cheers!

If you look at all the independent stuff Amandla Stenberg has done (all about herself) I would actually believe it was her idea. She also can't blame the poor script exclusively for her wooden, bland acting because the entire series was created with her in mind. Both of her characters are self inserts just different sides of the coin and they may still merge into one super being later anyway lol.
Regarding the budget the latest news is that they spend $40 million before they even started on the series so god knows what/who that money was spent on.
Headlands back peddling trying to say the series is the gayest question caught her off guard is just insulting. I mean it's not like she hasn't stated multiple times that she is, her wife's in it, Amandla Stenberg, Charlie Barnett, Jen Richards (writer) are all gay and thats just the ones i know of.. Already a forced gay interest between Osha and Jecki, no natural progression at all just bang there you go. Then you have the Coven, so bad I can't even write more about that. No problem with an gay story but for god sake make it fit in organically and the whole coven thing was just trash.
The thread no longer bothers me as the coven is now all dead so it's no longer important and it's back to the force. Apathy had set in but the hatred of this series has actually united and galvanised fans. It's quite impressive really.

Disney, Forbes, or whoever is defending this garbage absolutely knows they have seriously made some huge mistakes. They know they are trying to change the narrative. There is so much internet noise because this show and Disney as a whole is so bad, people are getting passionate about it. RUclips is blowing up about this, and they know the end of this terrible era will come to an end.

And why are we talking about sexuality anyway when this is a show about Jedi’s. And speaking of Jedi, Katie is absolutely right. Why did you kill off the Wookie Jedi before we got to see him in action? At least that would have been cool to see since no one had seen a wookie Jedi in action. You say you ran out of money on the budget? You got $180 million to make this project and you can’t include a Jedi fight between the wookie Jedi and someone else? This show is just all around bad and it’s beginning to be a waste of time for me. If it wasn’t for Katie, Peter, and Andy, I think I would’ve gave up on the show. Because I love having conversations with them, I will continue to put myself through the torture of watching this 😂.
Where in the show was anybody focusing on sexuality? Also Kenacca has plenty of action coming up in a future episode. I see that you can't handle mystery and flashbacks. That's ok you don't have to like it. But why hate it for what it is?

You either understand what he means or you don’t, you have tons of interviews to sift through where these show runners and writers have all claimed an agenda towards the writing of these stories. I don’t get how you’re not seeing this when they come out of the woodwork to tell you in interviews that that’s the goal. Making the gayest Star Wars is the sexuality stuff he was talking about.
