As a woman who also enjoyed Star Wars as a girl, I'll tell you how to interest girls in the story: make a good story. Add in a female character with good outfits and things to do. Preferably add in a romantic subplot, but make it believable or don't bother. And there you have it! Kind of like the original creators did.
As a woman tell me if this is something you have noticed or not. But romance of almost any kind between a boy and a girl has practically been erased in like the last 5 or 10 years in most movies that are not specifically about romance as the main plot. Growing up, most movies always had a side plot of romance regardless of the genre. As a guy, this never bothered me at all. As a woman, did this annoy y'all when this happened? Like for example, 2 Keanu Reeves action movies. Speed and Point Break. Would you had rather the 2 lead actors stayed platonic and just remained friends or did you enjoy the romance between the 2 leads. For some reason romance in these types of movies have been cut out and I was just wondering if it's because women didn't want it in there anymore.
Female Star Wars fan here. This is what we want... 1. Well written story 2. Well written characters 3. Well written dialogue 4. Excellent acting 5. Hot guys that are written well 6. Did I mention good writing? 7. Not to be told that we have to like something because of our gender or the gender of the protagonist
That's what I don't get about all this "strong woman" stuff in these franchises. Women like good looking men doing heroic stuff and always have. Throw in some attractive women who are well-written and everyone's happy.

As a young woman, my message to all the young guys out there reading this: most of us aren't into this woke, man-hating material and wimpy guys. I echo all this. And I'm a millennial woman, who apparently loves this sh*te. Nothing in this show for me. I didnt watch it and have steered my kids clear of it too. What do I want?! I want shows with stoic heroic chivalrous males, and brave (not overpowered) women who actually have to overcome the very real physical disadvantage of being female. I hate the messaging in these shows, telling my daughter that she was born powerful and perfect and smart, so instead of working on herself (as we all must do), she should simply fight for acknowledgement. And she shouldn't be wary of men's strength, because she can always kick their ass if needed. How bloody dangerous is this? And I wont let Disney tell my son that his job is to shut up, be the button of all jokes, and treat girls like they are infallible. My son is going to be a man. I dont care if he loves women or other men. But he is going to be a good man who takes care of his family. Not a doormat!
The shirtless Yord scene was probably aimed at a gay male audience not women. The actor is gay and this is supposed the gayest Star Wars series ever according to an interview with the creator.

This was the last straw for me. If you haven't seen Javier Bardem's character in Skyfall I recommend you watch the movie. The character is apparently gay, but it has nothing to do with his motivations as a villain. His gayness is one of the many aspects of a multi-faceted character, whereas Disney's portrayal of gays is flat as F, and in films like David Lynch's Dune the gayness is part of the Baron's perverted persona.

Im 45 but the Disney Star Wars efforts have left me feeling older than my years. Every time I try to watch them, I never finish them and simply end up shaking my head and muttering "I guess this is what's wanted now".
As a young woman who has been a fan of Star Wars since I was 8 or 9 I know exactly what I want in a show or movie. A good story. A well write story that makes since (basically not a mountain of rocks catching on fire... ROCKS) With good characters I can grow to care about, I do not care about the gender of the main characters I just want good one. Believable character development. Romance isn't a bad thing, I really enjoy it. But most importantly since this is Star Wars, I just wished they respected George Lucas story.
Here's what happens: 1. Gets ahold of beloved IP. 2. Pride takes over and, instead of staying true to the theme of IP, they attempt to leave their mark so they can gloat, "Hey, look, I did that! Aren't I smart and quirky?" 3. IP utterly ruined.
The worst part is they think all will be fine and dandy because they have the silly mystery. Why is hollywood so obsessed with the mystery box? a mystery is worthless without a good story backing it up.
This is what they learned from JJ, they learned you don't have to actually have a good story of a mystery to climb to the top on the back of the empty mystery boxes. JJ didn't just helped ruin Star Trek and Star Wars, he did his fair share ruining the whole industry.
What exactly is the mystery, as it's certainly not the 'who is killing Jedi' the show's marketing set up? Is it 'who killed the coven'? - obviously the Jedi; is it 'who is zipper-face sith lord'? - obviously one of the mothers. The real mystery is what was the show's budget *really* spent on?

I'll explain the Force vs the the Thread. The Thread comes form this concept of a Cosmic Fabric, that is understood as the 'woven fabric of the world'. The Force is more like an attractive bonding, 'that binds all living things', like a shared collective Life Force, but I'd add that the Force like the Daoist Way, or the Logos, a 'Generative Order, though we don't need to go too deeply into this here. These are similar concepts.

But what really stood out to me was how cartoonish and bland the demons looked. Is it too much to ask for scary demons in what should be a dark fantasy? Disney broke canon when they selected portions of the "Expanded Universe" to use even though there are some really solid stories that could easily be used to make live-action shows. We are almost halfway through this series and very little has actually happened. I keep thinking back (which hurts) to all of this 'moral grayness' and I fail to see actual gray. "I don't want to follow this ideology (Not-Nightsisters) but instead I want to explore this ideology (Jedism)". "Well, I guess I have to set fire to our village."

So far it looks like the "gray morality" in this show only goes as far as- "You know those people who have always been the good guys since the beginning of the series? Well they were actually the BAD GUYS all along! OOOooooOOOoooo!" That's not "gray morality!" That's the most standard, basic subversion of expectations possible. The twist villain and the tragic anti-villain have been a thing since human beings have been telling stories, and in recent years they are beyond over-used. It's not clever or interesting. It's boring.
If a show has "grey morality", it should be difficult to decide who to root for. If written well, it results in caring about characters on both sides of the conflict. If written poorly, it just results in no one caring about anything. Arcane and Attack on Titan are good examples of grey morality done well. All the attempts I've seen to inject "grey morality" into Star Wars have just taken the core good vs. evil struggle away and replaced it with...absolutely nothing.
Disney also broke the MCU when they decided decades worth of stories should be tossed out so they can make up their own featuring characters that have never been particularly popular.

This show is what happens when employers think writing a good story is so easy that they can hire just anyone. Writing a GOOD story is actually very difficult and if they want a good product, they need to be looking for talented writers and not hiring nepo babies and/or activists.
It has paper in it. That's all I need to know. Star Wars should never have paper. That was just such a perfect touch from the start (removing something as ubiquitous as paper to create a subtle alienness). Even the backwater places were paperless at the start.
With Dragon Age and Star Wars I think its kinda clear that the current owners of the IP wish they had ownership of difference newer and more relevant franchises. The Dragon Age owners wishes it owned Fortnite and the Star Wars owners wish they owned Wheel of Time.
I think it's pretty obvious that they don't really want what they have. Honestly I think they want their own IP but, deep down, they know that nobody is interested in a bunch space lesbians impregnating each other with The Thread. So what to do? Well one way to get around this is to take a IP which already has a fan base, skin it and drape it's skin over your weird fetish. If you haven't seen Javier Bardem's character in Skyfall I recommend you watch the movie. The character is apparently gay, but it has nothing to do with his motivations as a villain. His gayness is one of the many aspects of a multi-faceted character, whereas Disney's portrayal of gays is flat as F, and in films like David Lynch's Dune the gayness is part of the Baron's perverted persona.

Im 45 but the Disney Star Wars efforts have left me feeling older than my years.
Every time I try to watch them, I never finish them and simply end up shaking my head and muttering "I guess this is what's wanted now".
As a young woman who has been a fan of Star Wars since I was 8 or 9 I know exactly what I want in a show or movie. A good story. A well write story that makes since (basically not a mountain of rocks catching on fire... ROCKS) With good characters I can grow to care about, I do not care about the gender of the main characters I just want good one. Believable character development. Romance isn't a bad thing, I really enjoy it. But most importantly since this is Star Wars, I just wished they respected George Lucas story.
Here's what happens:
1. Gets ahold of beloved IP.
2. Pride takes over and, instead of staying true to the theme of IP, they attempt to leave their mark so they can gloat, "Hey, look, I did that! Aren't I smart and quirky?"
3. IP utterly ruined.
The worst part is they think all will be fine and dandy because they have the silly mystery. Why is hollywood so obsessed with the mystery box? a mystery is worthless without a good story backing it up.
It sounds a lot like communists promising a utopia that never comes.

Who is it for? It's for the people who want to burn down legacies. The people who cry about something being problematic even though they've never been interested in the IP. I'll explain the Force vs the the Thread. The Thread comes form this concept of a Cosmic Fabric, that is understood as the 'woven fabric of the world'. The Force is more like an attractive bonding, 'that binds all living things', like a shared collective Life Force, but I'd add that the Force like the Daoist Way, or the Logos, a 'Generative Order, though we don't need to go too deeply into this here. These are similar concepts.

The gameplay footage was WAY better, and all the fans really wanted to see anyhow... That trailer probably got someone fired, or at the very least, a note in their personnel folder, for the next raise cycle...

It looked pretty generic. But what really stood out to me was how cartoonish and bland the demons looked. Is it too much to ask for scary demons in what should be a dark fantasy?
But, like I said, these are just my first impressions and hopefully BioWare will prove me wrong when I see more.

Disney broke canon when they selected portions of the "Expanded Universe" to use even though there are some really solid stories that could easily be used to make live-action shows. We are almost halfway through this series and very little has actually happened. I keep thinking back (which hurts) to all of this 'moral grayness' and I fail to see actual gray. So far it looks like the "gray morality" in this show only goes as far as- "You know those people who have always been the good guys since the beginning of the series? Well they were actually the BAD GUYS all along! OOOooooOOOoooo!"
That's not "gray morality!" That's the most standard, basic subversion of expectations possible. The twist villain and the tragic anti-villain have been a thing since human beings have been telling stories, and in recent years they are beyond over-used. It's not clever or interesting. It's boring.
If a show has "grey morality", it should be difficult to decide who to root for. If written well, it results in caring about characters on both sides of the conflict. If written poorly, it just results in no one caring about anything. Arcane and Attack on Titan are good examples of grey morality done well.
All the attempts I've seen to inject "grey morality" into Star Wars have just taken the core good vs. evil struggle away and replaced it with...absolutely nothing.
Disney also broke the MCU when they decided decades worth of stories should be tossed out so they can make up their own featuring characters that have never been particularly popular.

This show is what happens when employers think writing a good story is so easy that they can hire just anyone. Writing a GOOD story is actually very difficult and if they want a good product, they need to be looking for talented writers and not hiring nepo babies and/or activists.

It has paper in it. That's all I need to know. Star Wars should never have paper. That was just such a perfect touch from the start (removing something as ubiquitous as paper to create a subtle alienness). Even the backwater places were paperless at the start.

With Dragon Age and Star Wars I think its kinda clear that the current owners of the IP wish they had ownership of difference newer and more relevant franchises. The Dragon Age owners wishes it owned Fortnite and the Star Wars owners wish they owned Wheel of Time.
I think it's pretty obvious that they don't really want what they have. Honestly I think they want their own IP but, deep down, they know that nobody is interested in a bunch space lesbians impregnating each other with The Thread. So what to do? Well one way to get around this is to take a IP which already has a fan base, skin it and drape it's skin over your weird fetish. Then you just puppet it around while pretending that it's still the original show.
