My Granny taught me how to crochet and make granny squares when 53 years ago. I've made numerous blankets, bags baby clothes etc. Blackberry stitch is one of my favourite stitches to ring the changes in granny squares-and Charity Shops my regular yarn supplier. One of the tips I offer those I teach, is the importance of getting a comfortable way of holding both hook and yarn- and away to go🌼

So true! That always seems to be when the lightbulb moment happens - when holding the hook and yarn finally click!

@@bhookedcrochetSo true! I’ve taught crochet classes before and it’s always very rewarding to see the person you’re teaching finally get their first stitch. Some people show their excitement more than others-but I will always remember that moment being one of the best!

I’ve been crocheting for about 5 years now & have a terrible time trying to comprehend certain patterns or things I want to make. This is the first video that I’ve successfully followed to make a granny square blanket for my sister!!! I’m so excited!! Thank you for this tutorial, it really helped & now making granny square blankets is my favourite thing to do :)

I use 4 chains, but i also usually slip stitch into the chain, then chain space because i find it makes the last but one double crochet in the round easier to place. Love how smooth the cloth of each square is done this way.

i’ve undone and redone this granny square like 15 times now. does making it a chain 4 instead of five make sewing them together uneven? is the stitch count on the edge different? i hate how much larger the holes look compared to the others it makes it look super wonky.

I did half double crochet and started with 4 chains. HDC feels too tight so i didnt include the first stitch she did after the "corner" basically skipped that and went straight to the very first visible stitch. Came out well as long as the sides have equal stitches! Thank you again!

See, when I was trying, this, I’m not sure if I was doing it wrong, or something, but the side where you chain 5, just wasn’t looking good. It was too big, and just looked messy, so instead, after finishing the very first row (so making the corners) I chained 4 instead of 5, did that row, and instead of slip-stitching and chaining 4/5, I just did I the regular corner pattern. It looks much neater now, and it looks more like a square without blocking it at all. Hope that this helps anyone with my problem!❤
