Aetherize isn't a bad card in the format but players don't really understand its role. It's not a tempo card (even though it looks a bit like one) it's an anti-closer card. It CAN be defensive but it requires you to have pressure for your opponent. They attack to close out the game, you draw them in with the best blocks you can and they respond with closing tricks only for you to Aetherize them when they finish so they have as little room to replay their creatures as possible. Then you finish the game on your next turn. Aetherize doesn't suck but most people just use it wrong.
For those still playing Foundations - it's almost a "seriously don't mulligan" set. Card value is so high and so few ways to regain cards, especially in green and red. Mulliganing is much worse than normal - you have to eat a lot of marginal hands in this set.
You checked the data but then ignored that scourge is awful and sower is actually solid as a 4 power enabler and aggressive mana sink in gruul specifically
46:57 I dunno I think that was just a bad bluff. That game the Simic deck was doing the thing and drew like a million cards and still lost to a median Gruul deck. Bad, bad sign.
I watch a lot of you and Paul Cheon draft. It’s crazy how differently y’all evaluate and pick cards. He highly values counterspells, Gorehorn Raider, Ambush Wolf and a few others where you seem to look at them as filler. Weird to see.
yeah, i think paul is a bit better of a drafter. better card evaluation id say. at least just a little. jim seems to use experience more for card evaluation which leads to him undervaluing good cards like refute cuz counter spells are usually kinda bad in limited
After looking at the data, I wonder how much Duskmourn being the previous set affected how less experienced people are still drafting, deck building and playing. This is a racing format and folks are REALLY trying finicky A+B stuff.
47:15 yeah, i dont think you should bluff against plat players, they have very inconsistent skill levels 47:30 yeah they can work at all levels but the consistency is the big difference. daimon and above, that bluff probably works 70% of the time, maybe 80%. plat probably about 50%. risking your 1/1 that can grow and draw a card for one point of damage is not good risk vs reward evaluation at the plat level. sorry jim, but it just wasn't a good play
Btw, Green is now fine as a colour, it was the worst initially, followed by red then blue, but now the format has normalised a bit Gruul is actually the most winning archtype! And Selesnya is fine too. So its really just Simic and Golgari that aren't great. And for Red it's Gruul and Rakdos are good, Boros is fine, and Izzet is bad/unideal. Blue is the middle of the road colour now with all the archtypes being just fine and izzet being bad/not what you want.
I would've taken Shivan Dragon there at the end, but nice to see Jim resist the urge to be tempted back into splashing and such. Cautiously hopeful that the change will be fruitful.
Heya Jim! I’ve been wondering how far behind the videos are in irl as rank reset happened, yet you’re still plat in the videos. This video gives a slight insight as a week after foundations was about 3 weeks ago. About 1 more week till December rank reset, which already happened 2 weeks ago-ish.
Absolutely shocked red is rated so high. I rarely see a reason to move into red early on. Somewhat relieved to hear about the low winrate overall. I am doing "fine" but have only managed to pull of like 2 or 3 trophies. Lots of my losses feel stolen by bad floods or board wipes.
2:50 yeah, its actually a decent card. not great but higher level than filler for sure. deck seems decent to good. not great but should do ok. probably about 5 wins
NONBELIEVER. Green aggro with no giant growths. Nothing here is 'bad' per say, but my guess is things just won't quite come together without any acceleration through your deck.
NONBELIEVER. Our turn 3 is really clunky and we don’t have giant growths to play with our two drops to make up for it. Clunky turn 3 is bad for aggro decks

Mid-season data check was great - would like to see that going forward.
Well that was the quickest data analysis I've ever seen haha, almost felt more like an ad than a data analysis 😅

Gorehorn is a mini Flametongue that isn't hard to turn on. Even if you didn't think it was top 2 that's above filler.
yeah, he was undervaluing the card for sure. refute too. very solid card he passed often for no good reason
It removes little utility creatures or helps others trade way up.
I was thinking that too, not surprising to see a FTK-esque card rated so highly (the format is full of x/1s and x/2s as well)
Loved the data check!
46:57 I dunno I think that was just a bad bluff.

Believer!!! Gruul for the win, always.
love the data overlook, more please

Love the mid-season data check!
Can’t wait for Jim to hit that sub goal to flood his basement
Mid season data check into modifying the draft strategy and coming out with 7 wins is a thing of beauty. Cool stuff
After looking at the data, I wonder how much Duskmourn being the previous set affected how less experienced people are still drafting, deck building and playing. This is a racing format and folks are REALLY trying finicky A+B stuff.

Are you going to do Pioneer Masters drafts?
he did one on his main channel. said hes not doing a full bronze to mythic for it
Wow. Analyze, regroup, apply your findings, fuckin profit. Liked, subscribed, good show Jim.
Highlight of the video @1:02:30 Jim bringing back possibly the original meme of the internet
Makes me feel nerdy but I love it
Deck seems good BELIEVER
My only 7 wins was black green morbid sacrifice, and I got lucky to have garruk's uprising early in all my wins, card draw so tough in this set

Lucky # 13
Edit: +1 for the hot tub stream
passing that dragon trainer was painful to watch, one of the best topend cards for a go-wide gruul deck
This is me commenting to support Jim Davis
I’m going non-believer - forcing gruul seems bad without any standouts from pack 1 to make you really want it.

He said in a video a couple days ago that B2M was wrapped up and was considering some extra gimmick drafts for the rest of the season.
got too in the scrappy crappy mood with that bluff lol
I pause the video just say, felling blow goes up the curve and it's a sorcery. Ahead was the choice
Believer!
So... Bathtub B2M soon?
surprised you weren’t already high on gorehorn raider. it’s an FTK! you love FTK!
Well that was unexpected
Absolutely shocked red is rated so high. I rarely see a reason to move into red early on.

"They're not 'paid' actors, they're 'penance' actors."
GRUUL
SMASH
i think this deck is a lot better than jim is giving it credit for, weird to check the data and still hate on the raid cards!
I can't believe this did what it did.
I don't believe but I can see 5-6 wins, let's watch😊
Oook, I forgot to account for a win like you had in the 2nd to last game😂 Poor hearthstone player forgot to add the 3rd color land I assume🤪
Unga Bunga gets it done
I liked the mid season data check, but then you promptly ignored all the data you saw in it while drafting!
Love the videos #NONBELEIVER
2:50 yeah, its actually a decent card. not great but higher level than filler for sure.
deck seems decent to good. not great but should do ok. probably about 5 wins
You can do it
Show me the 6-3!
+1 for Star Wars kid!
first pick llanowar so this is.... an educational draft this time right? Showing like how good the commons are
Nvm: Commons just run the table
Green is one of the worst colours…Gruul it is!
NONBELIEVER. Green aggro with no giant growths. Nothing here is 'bad' per say, but my guess is things just won't quite come together without any acceleration through your deck.
Don't use combat tricks on defense
Sometimes, all you have is a hail Mary
@@clagen86 you're right, I was just Dora the explorer style answering his question. I do it all the time 😂
NONBELIEVER. Our turn 3 is really clunky and we don’t have giant growths to play with our two drops to make up for it. Clunky turn 3 is bad for aggro decks
Firsttt
dang. almost beat ya to it
This deck stinks and complete variance you went 7-2
Hot tub stream!
