I was a rookie police officer when this song first came out, I routinely had to take prisoners, or response to accidents, etc...at the local hospital. Everytime (usually at night, rookies had night shift) I would see this same girl working the graveyard shift in the ER and in between cases we'd talk and shoot the Sh##...anyways, we eventually went out and have been married all this time! This song has always been "ours" and i listen to it all the time because it reminds me of our crazy times!

As others here have already said, this is a very good song that gets overlooked from Rick.

I remember this song when I was a kid. Yeah, I was a Rick Springfield fan. I used one of the lyrics from this song in my poetry once. The part about the Moon and the Sea. Its the best part of this song. 80's rocked. :-)

"State of the Heart" was written by Australian Rock band Mondo Rock's guitarist Eric McCusker. You REALLY ought to hear the original version - it is infinitely more soulful than Rick's teenybopper version.

Such an under-appreciated singer-songwriter. Most people just think "Jessie's Girl" when they hear his name, but wow he had some amazing songs, tunes and lyrics both great. So many memories
