- DEATH - A clip edited by DEATH manager Eric Greif from video he shot of Chuck Schuldiner, while the two were on a promotional trip to Europe in October 1991. DEATH's European label had sent the buddies across the continent, culminating in Chuck's interview for Headbangers Ball, shot at MTV in London.

Exactly. He did his own thing and was authentic. Totally true to himself and never putting on a show for anyone. He didn't try to fit into any metal stereotype or put on a facade for the fans, the press or his genre. In fact, he tried to dispel any preconceived noticed that some people might have had about him due to the type of music he played. He emphasized over and over again that he was just a nice, down to earth, normal guy and definitely was not evil. hehe. He was THE man. I wish more musicians were like him. Especially our metal guys.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck a couple of times and he was a very quiet reserved but very nice guy. The second time I met him I happened to be at Morrisound with the guys from Suffocation while they were recording. Chuck was there doing some work as well and he was very upset because Bevis & Butthead had just ripped on him and the video for the Philosopher. We all told him don't sweat it man, it's good publicity and he agreed. Couple months later Death had sold many thousands more records.

Yes, it is hard and Eric, my warrior, "made" me watch this. I usually avoid seeing Chuck laugh and talk; this is for selfish reasons as it makes me painfully aware of whom I have lost. @@dhelsgade same bere. I discovered him in 2020. About the only good thing to come from it. Chuck inspired me to play guitar differently ans even play his songs. Wish he was still alive, im 22 now and honestly i gotta say Death is my favorite band. It kills me I'll never truly witness the greatness that is Chuck Schuldiner and Death

I understand your feelings. However, don't listen to the rumors - Chuck's sister Beth made sure that he had everything he needed medically, although it is true that it wiped out their savings entirely. The plain, sad reality is that Chuck had a very aggressive and destructive cancer, and it killed him. :(

@brunthroath6912 I'm fucking getting fatigued by this question. Chuck was not gay. I shared rooms with him on the road & off the road. We were buddies. He had long term girlfriends. The point is that we spent a lot of time with our hair, we wore fairly tight jeans, and we like kittens. Some of my good friends are gay, so I couldn't care less - but Chuck wasn't gay. Hi Eric, I am a long time fan of death.
My condolences to you and the family of Chuck. Thank you for all you are doing for the schuldiners and death fans around the world. Can't wait to watch the new upcoming Documentary. I wish you didn't have to defend Chucks sexuality, whatever it might be. Being a Canadian and loosing another great artist in Gord Downie this week, I wish chuck had the health care funding behind him to give him a better fight. Thanks for all you do for The death fans.

Chuck was a legend, seemed like such a down to earth fella. I also like how he "breaks" away from most Death Metal stereotypes. Instead of the typical things associated with Death Metal, he likes to play with his hair.

god dammit, im glad he left such a great legacy behind, but it really sucks that hes gone. i know this sounds cliche, but he was so full of life in this video. its sad to know hes not around anymore.

It always makes me smile, but a bit sad to see Chuck in a video like this. His music has been such an inspiration to my own guitar playing and song writing. It is a true testament to his talent, that I felt I knew him through his music, like I could have ran into him at a restaurant and pick up a conversion like old friends. Few others have shared their soul in such a way. He lives on in his music, in our memories, in our hearts, and in all the art he has inspired in others.

Thanks for clarifying this, Eric. I really appreciate that you have constant contact with us fans of Death and Chuck. It still pisses me off the fact that such a fundamental thing for people as health is something so expensive, I mean, many times it's a matter of life and death. There has been more than one reported case of someone dying because of denied healthcare. Such a fucked up world...

@LichKingSkullWart & AlwaysBeKilling C'mon kids. The reason I made this little vid was to show Chuck as a human being - the same guy I managed and who was my friend. I didn't intend to spark debates pitting brutal folks against those who genuinely miss him. I say that each person should celebrate Chuck's life in their own way. As for what Chuck would want, I'd wager he wouldn't want anyone to be sad but would feel most humbled that his music is still played today. For me this makes him live.

Chuck proved us that true metal isn't about wearing shitty masks and attracting press attention by doing crazy shit. The only thing it is about is the music itself. He is just a normal guy who had a very tragic death but I know he is in metal heaven playing gigs where everyone has first row tickets. We love you too Chuck , RIP!

I read that Chuck was denied surgery when the tumor returned in 2001... I fucking hate the fact that maybe if he hadn't have that surgery denied, he would have survived... Greedy medics, caring more about their paycheck than their patients.

I just researched that a little and it is very rare for an adult to get that type of tumour. Chuck was unique in several ways, unfortunately of course, with cancer.
