Spent Christmas morning at Biltmore. Practically owned the place as very few tourists there walking around with me. Fireplaces were lit, live music in main rooms, and every room perfectly decorated for Christmas. The separate greenhouse was out of this world, and the visiting Chihuly glass exhibit nearby was beautiful. Highly recommend a visit to Biltmore. Never disappoints.
Interesting fact...Biltmore was secretly used as the storage place for DC museums' priceless art & artifacts during WW2 duration. The fear for bombings in DC during the war was so strong that officials turned to the Vanderbilts & this giant house for help. All that great art temporarily stored there in the cloak of darkness/secrecy.
Not only can I not imagine having enough money to build a house like that, but I can't even imagine having enough money to pay $75 just to walk around the house! I'm ever grateful to you for showing us places some of us will never be able to see ourselves.
Great video for sure. Always good to clarify the servants were not slaves (a common misconception, even though it was built well after slavery). They were well paid and only single workers lived in the house. There were some on property dwellings for families. They were also well paid. One of the women that was head housekeeper saved enough to retire in Florida and open a B&B.
I used to love getting to visit Biltmore but sadly they’ve priced many of us out. $75 for the off season and $90-$125 for the busy season is INSANELY expensive for what you get.
Love the Biltmore! I was really saddened to hear of all the damage around the home but glad it survived. When I took the tour several years ago, I think they said that the tour route was periodically changed to prevent too much wear on the carpet and floors in the same spot. Thanks for refreshing my memory about the wonderful time my daughter and I had visiting the Biltmore Estate.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸 thanks for sharing this in Asheville North Carolina good to see what's has open so u can see for yourself. Things are coming along since the Helene Hurricane, it getting better. You take care.
Fun fact: The Biltmore house, and my house… look absolutely nothing alike lol. 😂 I’m very thankful. Can you imagine upkeep cost? Can you imagine the property taxes cost? Can you imagine that heating bill during winter? Nope lol
I grew up in Hendersonville NC about 30 minutes from here I've never been thank you for sharing this beautiful experience I've always wanted to see this place if you'd have went in spring it would have been gorgeous outside
I had the opportunity to tour an historic mansion in South Bend Indiana years ago. Nothing as big or grand as the Biltmore, of course, but it was the biggest house I've ever been in. I was fascinated by the servant quarters in the attic. Just enough room for a bed and a dresser. The house had an indoor pool, a ballroom and even a school room for the family's children. I'd suggest you check it out, however I can't remember the name. Sorry.
If you like stately homes you should visit Great Britain 🇬🇧.It’s got the most incredible stately homes you’ve ever seen and they are all open to the public .If you join the national trust (of the UK 🇬🇧) before you go you can get a discount on entry to any national trust attraction’s
Such an impressive and awe-inspiring estate! I can't help but think of the 80s version of Flowers in the Attic every time I see it. Lots of haunting moments filmed there.
Hey Jacob, The Observatory is actually on the rooftop tour which you have to pay extra for that. If you've never taken the rooftop tour before then I highly recommend it. You also get to go inside the attic and on the rooftop balconies where you can see the gargoyles up close.
I remember visiting with my family as a pre-teen using the walkman audio tour. I loved the part about the heart! But the pool and bowling alley were my favorite
There are so many people still trying to pick up pieces since Hurricane hit and now they have Massive Fires in California. Please keep all these people in your thoughts cause I just couldnt imagine. So Glad to see Bitmore made it through storm.
This is really an opportunity for the surrounding village to rebuild properly and for the long haul. I just hope there are sustainable plans put in place.
Have you ever visited The Breakers in RI? My late aunt was a preservationist there and worked with the decor and materials. It is a gorgeous Vanderbilt mansion (summer cottage) worth seeing also. Thank you for sharing this video, I loved it.
I’m curious to wonder that the reason why the green curtains were boxed off because of a safety issue. Green items (dresses, wallpaper, etc) in that are were known to contain high amounts of arsenic. That’s how it got its vivid coloring. It was known as Scheels green and lead many to arsenic poisoning.
It seems to be a suburbia standard that most houses will allow or have integrated a breakfast table/nook in the kitchen. When my parents renovated the kitchen and added a laundry room/mud room, they added a table next to the door so you can look out into the driveway. This was helpful when I was really little as a van would come and take me to preschool. Not much useful in elementary/middle though-but that cats still liked it
When I went to the Biltmore home in the 70's we were told that they were having a Halloween party and let the guests paint the walls any way they wanted. When I went we were not allowed anywhere but the first floor and basement.
It does kind of give off Wayne Manor or Dracula's Castle vibes when you look at the exterior of the estate and I was under the impression that you wouldn't be able to film or take photos in their period, but you have proved me wrong on that because I wanted to go there and film inside the mansion as well someday. Love the video Carpetbagger and I can't wait to see where you go next.
Great video for sure. Always good to clarify the servants were not slaves (a common misconception, even though it was built well after slavery). If you love the Biltmore, you need to visit the mansions in Newport Rhode Island. There's quite a few that offer tours. One of them was owned by John Aster who was lost on the Titanic
Love that place! I was wondering about Napoleons heart chess table interesting they took it out of the house. Remember the winery being by itself too. My fam used to take me there every other summer as a young kid & teen. Just think tho.. this was they're summer home. Huge place in NY & they re molded a castle in Europe too which is what inspired this house I believe. Just a crazy beautiful place!
Good Afternoon Carpet Bagger, I found your channel last year when you went to the Moth Man Festival. You have great content! Have you ever thought of creating a t-shirt/sweatshirt? I would be the first in line for one! Safe Travels,
If you go again, talk to the hosts that are there. They will answer all your questions. I chuckled when you were in the Banquet Hall. The table will extend to 40’ long holding all the chairs that were in the room. Before the hurricane I was a host. There are many things when you are visiting you don’t see or realize unless someone tells you.
I was always told Chuliy allowed photography, but not to be sold or distributed for commercial gain. A few personal photos from your cell phone were possible, but not for YT. I can relate more to the servants' quarters. There is too much opulence for me.
I do believe the salon was the room where the ladies hung out after dinner while the men went probably to the billiard room for cigars and whiskey . Beautiful building and grounds. Can't imagine living in such a place . Keep Safe❤Keep Well ❤
There was a trend in the 19th century where the ultra wealthy needed to have gardens. The North East still being fairly important had a lot of the rich people's estates, hence the Philadelphia is known as America's Garden Capital

I wish I had thought of that! My family has annual passes there. I'd rather be there than visiting my in-laws...
My great, great grandfather was one of the 1,000 workmen who helped build the house.
Not only can I not imagine having enough money to build a house like that, but I can't even imagine having enough money to pay $75 just to walk around the house!
I'm ever grateful to you for showing us places some of us will never be able to see ourselves.
It's more in the summer, but it's cool that Jacob showed us

I would to vist...but 75 dollars...not happening..
@@therealvidkid true. also Edith Vanderbilt started a school to teach young women to be domestic servants. It was an honorable job.
Thank you Carpet Bagger glad to see everyone starting to rebuild after the devasting hurricane.
You have given the best tour of Biltmore I have ever seen.. Thank you and many blessings.
I used to love getting to visit Biltmore but sadly they’ve priced many of us out. $75 for the off season and $90-$125 for the busy season is INSANELY expensive for what you get.
And that's just to walk around? I would expect to be served dinner in one of those dining rooms for that kind of money.
I think the season pass makes it reasonable with the local discount.
My Upstate SC family completely agrees!
Love the Biltmore! I was really saddened to hear of all the damage around the home but glad it survived. I'm glad that Biltmore is open fully open again after the hurricane. Have an amazing time Jacob!
I took my son to the Biltmore House before he left for Bootcamp/Navy ... I believe it was in 2006. Thank you, Jacob for the tour!
Nothing better than seeing the tapestry room - except hearing a baby cry when seeing the tapestry room!
The Conservatory was amazing. Thank You for the tour.
When you were wandering around the Conservatory, I kept expecting Colonel Mustard to jump out behind you with a candlestick.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸 thanks for sharing this in Asheville North Carolina good to see what's has open so u can see for yourself. Things are coming along since the Helene Hurricane, it getting better. You take care.
Hope you are doing ok today. Amazed you did videos for us! Thanks I hope you heal quickly. ❤

Biltmore House is awesome!!!
Fun fact: The Biltmore house, and my house… look absolutely nothing alike lol. 😂 I’m very thankful. Can you imagine upkeep cost? Can you imagine the property taxes cost? Can you imagine that heating bill during winter? Nope lol
The image of George Vanderbilt sitting around entertaining the family with his kazoo will stick with me for some time...
That screaming kid! 🤪
Love this, very interesting!
I grew up in Hendersonville NC about 30 minutes from here I've never been thank you for sharing this beautiful experience I've always wanted to see this place if you'd have went in spring it would have been gorgeous outside

How cool😊

My favorite place in the whole entire world! Wish I had a scoop of black cherry ice cream from there!
This is really an opportunity for the surrounding village to rebuild properly and for the long haul. I just hope there are sustainable plans put in place.

that was a good video i went there in 85 little different now thanks
Job well done, Jacob.
that is a breathe taking house.
I’m sure they had a few harpsichord I don’t think that was a piano. I think it was harpsichord.
When I went to the Biltmore home in the 70's we were told that they were having a Halloween party and let the guests paint the walls any way they wanted. When I went we were not allowed anywhere but the first floor and basement.
Great video ❤
I’d love the Biltmore house I used to go there all the time

Wow.... this Biltmore house is Biltmore better than mine.
I never knew you had houses like that in America. We have loads of them in the UK and all over Europe.
🤣 lmao so hard at 👶 baby echoing while fussing

Now in Vegas and following the New money 😊.enjoyed it
Place is near and dear to me. Dad was married there. Ancestors were from the area. Scotland USA
75 dollars to visit? That's absolutely insane.
Yes...just ridiculous
Jacob should get yourself a heated coat I got one and it’s really nice
Jacob you should check out Moody Mansion and Kings Palace in Galveston if you haven’t already 😊
Nice ..I live in Asheville
The "chariot" is actually called a "Sedan Chair."
If you love the Biltmore, you need to visit the mansions in Newport Rhode Island. There's quite a few that offer tours. One of them was owned by John Aster who was lost on the Titanic
we were there man years ago
They were well liked by the community because they said they were we'll liked by the community.
Not surprise that Biltmore is use for movies.
According to my family lore, my family has connections with the Vanderbilts.
Love that place! I was wondering about Napoleons heart chess table interesting they took it out of the house. Remember the winery being by itself too. The Biltmore House has 65 fireplaces.
I was always told Chuliy allowed photography, but not to be sold or distributed for commercial gain. A few personal photos from your cell phone were possible, but not for YT. I can relate more to the servants' quarters. There is too much opulence for me.
Is the Biltmore House a museum right now or can people stay at the house as a hotel type of situation?
Biltmore looks like it might have some fun ghost storys going on in this place.. would you ever go to a haunted house and tour it?
Billiards is pronounced Bill yerds I think.
I do believe the salon was the room where the ladies hung out after dinner while the men went probably to the billiard room for cigars and whiskey . Beautiful building and grounds. Can't imagine living in such a place . Keep Safe❤Keep Well ❤
Would love to see this place in the summer.
Love western North Carolina
