    That bus is essentially a hotel room, the air BNB owner probably never intended for it to be driven. You cant really judge the design choices from that.

    I liked the openness of the bus, but it definitely needs a bathroom. If you put the drop-down table across from the kitchen you would have more counter space. Instead of having the fridge right up front. You could put a sliding tray under the floor in a storage compartment, and have a small chest fridge that could be kept stocked with cold drinks. Don’t forget you need floor space for the Christmas tree. As Roy would say, “Happy Trails!”

    The one thing i liked about this airbnb was the dedicated outside protected area, i think for Taterland to get a cement slab , partially enclosed enclosure to park next to , would be perfect when back at taterland and a permanent ,outdoor cat run/outdoor space would be perfect. Have a detachable tube ,etc to attach outdoor area to your van, for cats to be able to freely go in and outside safely. Pull you can set up a hot tub outside and leave ll the time if its in outdoor protected car port area . .And u can build a permanent outdoor viewing screen on outside of car port for when u have movie nights .

    Eric, we have talked about getting a bus and converting it into a RV and we agree 100% on those not being couches or sofas. They look worse than the booth seating most RVs have ok for a few mins but if you want to relax after a long day on the road traveling not going to help.
    And as you get older something with good support for the back is a must.

    Since you do a fair amount of remodel to your RV's I believe building a Skoolie is your best route. I think it would be easier for you to remodel (than an RV) when your needs change. Also when you sell your RV's they have been greatly changed in the living area that I suspect there are fewer people who would consider buying them. I would hazard to guess that it's most of your past RV's have sold to one of your followers or traded in on your next RV. As you said these are just my thoughts. It's should all be based on your wants and needs! Stay safe! Love your channel.

    Quirky is fun! But you mentioned wanting a 4 season RV, then started looking at schoolies. Either is good, but don’t think one can be both without massive modifications. See if one of your friends has a thermal camera, and go take a look at a schoolie during the winter months. Then take a look at Kevin’s RV. Short of replacing all the windows with double panes, and adding 3” of foam to the floor, walls, and ceiling, it’s going to be a struggle to maintain comfortable temperatures in hot and cold climates.

    insulating a roof is always a good idea because heat rises, but also a more efficient heater would work much better. I have had one of those heaters and they are NOT very good. 10 out of 10 would not recommend... So fun seeing you looking into new ventures again. TFS Merry Christmas

  • @scottks5
    @scottks5 7 месяцев назад +8

    If you want a four-season RV, a schoolie may not be the best way to go. All those windows would have to be covered up and insulated to preserve whatever heat your heater generates let alone the roof.

    I don't think I've ever seen anyone on RUclips or in real life that has a converted bus that has been plagued by issues. Particularly mechanical. They are not very good road vehicles and you do a heck of a lot of driving. Finding places to get them worked on seems to be problematic as well. They're mostly designed to haul heavy loads at low speeds cruising around town and are geared as such. Now, maybe if you wanted to put one on your property and have it as a secondary local traveler, that could be something.

    • @emmettjones5165
      @emmettjones5165 7 месяцев назад

      I used to drive a school bus for a charter company. The 55 limit is controlled by a rev limiter that can be turned off to allow full speed range. First thing the owner would do after buying a used bus from a school district would be to remove the rev limit. Takes 5 minutes with an OBD tool to turn off.

As a part time Chevy Coachmen RV guy I do not get the point so many RUclips set the fashion to rebuilt RVs into tiny houses with IKEA interiors that never made to be in a mobile home 😉 but with the matching plant looks trendy on cam. Most RV influencer leave the RV life to the next project once it is done anyway. Let them built B&Bs is also a nice idea. Just not RVs anymore. Keep going your own bus in the future. Can wait to see the result 😊

    Your heating the metal first then losing heat from it.... An insulated bus/van is warm during the winter and cool in the summer as i have done it here in the UK but don't forget to put a moisture barrier between the metal and the finished surface as damp is a killer for rust and mould....

You could do that at your property with the walls and the roof set up, maybe not a fabric, but something like a big overhang or half of a barn kind of structure. I reallyliked that a great deal. If I had the space at my property, I would absolutely build something like that to park right next to and hang out.

    I would rethink sitting that close to the litterbox. Even if smell isnt an issue the sound may be.

    Your upgrade suggestions would benefit them, IMO! I am having computer issues so catching up finally on my new computer but trying how to figure out getting my data off my former hard drives without paying more than a computer is worth. You need medium rare also imho. 😁

    I would think school bus would use more gas or diesel. Especially after adding the weight of a conversion.

    I would love to see more stays in rv type places.

    One idea I've heard of is to insulate and control the climate of only the sleeping area. And then do a minimal build for the rest. Less weight, expense and hassle.

    There is enough room to insulate on top of the metal. The windows are a huge impact. The floor would need to be insulated as well. (just my opinion)

    All ways have some warm gear with you no matter how warm it is when you ride! Some good ideals on the bus! Merry Christmas My Friend!

    DP will have more value. Go for 2007-2013. Dynamax from that era are very solid and not huge. Avoid going to 40ft because it is just too big. 36-37ft is plenty.

    A small woodstove would have the btu's to make it cozy on cold nights. That heater is meant for a room in an insulated house.

    I can see the appeal of a large skoolie .... but not for traipsing around the country with. It's too big, nerdy and clumsy, IMO. If you can deal with no privacy, or close out most of the windows - it would be good as a Tiny House / Air BNB.
