Tim just for the record Retail World at Parkgate was built in an Enterprise Zone created by the Tories and Rotherham Council at the time had no planning controls to stop the construction. However as you say the policies of the Council have been a disaster for the town
They could have made it very difficult for Parkgate, but back to my days at College from 1980 to 1984 they were destroying the town centre.. The guy who built Meadowhall said it has been a disaster, was that also an Enterprise Zone or did the council commit Harakiri
@timawells Meadowhall was a Sheffield planning decision. Eddie Healey (Stadium Developments) who built Parkgate was originally going to build the shopping centre behind retail world and had all the stores signed up and committed, until Sheffield Council with Paul Sykes (another developer) came up with the plan to use the old Hatfields site adjacent to the M1. This was not an Enterprise Zone but planning permission was given. The two developers Sykes and Healey combined and the rest is history.
Neil thanks for confirming what I thought about Meadowhall, so only the council can be blamed for the impact on the town centre. It should have been incorporated into the Sheffield Moor. Sykes regrets building it.@@neilboulton2425
RIP Westgate . A once magnificent pub crawl with 7 pubs within 200 yards of each other although the 2 that remain are very good , but what the hell with that paving Tim? don't get why anyone would invest that much time and money into something like that ! RMBC have no clue!
Just got a flyer from my retiring MP titled " Listening to you".Share your views etc.Must be so they can ignore my views like they ignored most people who didn't want the Crookes/ Walkley Low traffic neighbourhood laughingly called " Interactive" in best Orwellian tradition.
Is it west gate from where the new York pub was up to the centre and the end of the video ? Looks like some decent pubs to be fair and some empty shops When the people go and the footfall stops they never return Which Is a shame because it would be good to have some decent variety and decent independent shops down there on a zero rent for 12 months to encourage businesses and footfall and then heavily reduced rent for 12 months after And the shops must not be vape shops Off license or mobile shops Or takeaways

Ever seen anyone use a cycle lane lol Barely ever Although I went for a walk from Heeley sidings into town this morning And the route I took went past a few cycle lane think I saw 3 people which Is a lot 2 were a dad and child on bikes
