See my great auntie Esther's grave in the churchyard. Not in a best condition due to lack of descendants living nearby. Thanks for your uploading. I haven't visited it. I live couple of hundred miles away and have an old photo.
Just re-watching my local parish. Quick story on The Hind shown early in the video. It was meant to be named after "King Edward VIII" but after he abdicated it was quickly renamed possible in response to the nearest other pub "The Stag". The stories often alter when the change actually happened, I have heard "during it being built", "after the signs went up" to "the day before it opened". ps. Nobody calls it "Whiston Park", it's the "Cornies" as it was previously a corn field. :)
Maybe you can answer me something Dave. Seeing as my line of work takes me all around Rotherham, I was in Whiston the other day, on the estate that includes Cow Rakes. I've always wondered how that got it's name. Any ideas?
@@TheVillageIdiot I have lived just off Cow Rakes Lane for 50 years and never even thought about it. It just seems like a normal name to me. A quick google shows "The use of 'rake' as a verb with the meaning 'to pasture', especially to pasture illegally," I assume there used to be some criminal cows in the area :)
Still loving Whiston ❤️ My Nan used to live there

I panic more about the name Worry Goose :)
In some parts of Whiston, that might be a thing...mischievous beings
