- Top 10 Best Cartoons of the Seventies
Superheroes, robots and ghosts - the '70s were a weird time. Growing up there were two types of Saturday Morning cartoons.. The first type you didn’t really care about - if you had to run to the kitchen for more fruity pebbles or take a quick detour to the bathroom it’s an acceptable loss. Then there’s the second type, which you wouldn’t miss a second of even if the sky was falling. Maybe it was Johnny Quest… or maybe it was The Smurfs. Some cartoons are so special that you can’t tear your eyes away from them. Every decade had them, but the 1970s had some of the best of them all. I’m Nostalgic Nick for Doyouremember, and today we’re going back to the 70s to take a look at some of the best cartoons of all time. Be sure to mash that thumbs up button and subscribe to our channel, but for now, on to the toons!

What cartoon was your favorite? 🤔
Scooby Doo is still my favorite.
You mean catoon?
Scooby-Doo has always been my favorite.
Always loved Jonny Quest
@@Alongfortheride693 Yeah, all these were from the 60's.
To be a kid in the 70's and a teenager in the 80's - It's GREAT to be a Gen-Xer!
Was a kid in the he 80s n a teen in the 90s.Always wished I could a been born 10 yrs earlier but in retrospect I see how fortunate I was to snag that last unplugged decade.Plus I had a lot of cool older people take me under their wing.Wouldn't trade it
💯
I agree
I saw all these cartoons growing up! Good times!
'66 model here (sports hehe) the 70's n 80's were absolutely magical! individual freedom combined with personal responsibility + an amazingly positive outlook for the future
wtf happened guys?
As a 70's kid, for a few hours on Saturday The TV was all ours.
Born in '66 , loved Road Runner , Bugs Bunny , Johnny Quest , and School house Rock !!! Wait , the list goes on , Speed Racer , The Jetsons , and The Flinstones !!!
Johnny Quest rocked along with Space Ghost
Spaaaaaaaaace ghooooooooost
Kids of today are missing some great cartoons!! Even from the late 60’s
Something special was lost when they got rid of Saturday morning cartoons....oh well...
Ok I get it ur old
@@hanphilnoffz8827 and??
@@folgore1 It was wasn't just the cartoons. Schoolhouse Rock was also great!
@@heatherduncan5101 Goodness, some of those tunes still roam around in my head! "I'm just a Bill", "My hero zero," etc. Sadly the guy who sang many of those recently passed away.
Remember as a kid digging the toy out of the cereal box? And watch cartoons eating cereal? Sugar Pops!
That brings back a funny memory! Once, out of a box of King Vitamin, we got "King Vitamin's Crashing Castle". It was basically a small plastic castle and you would roll this small plastic ball toward the castle to knock it down. My little brother - then a toddler - would frequently stick the ball in his nose to gross me out. Well one day, while I was at grade school, my little brother stuck the ball up his nose one time too many and couldn't get it out! (Needless to say an embarrassing visit to our pediatrician was the result.) There's a reason why don't see as much cool stuff in cereal boxes anymore...
@Mike Urashevich Our local Marcs still carries Quisp cereal!
Super sugar crisp and sugar bear! But golly, we can't call something "sugar" these days!!
digging the toy out of the cereal box was one of my very favourite things to do as a kid i still have some of those cereal toys
Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner Show hands down. Highlight of my Saturday mornings! Pink Panther second.
Definitely deserves an honorable mention, The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show!!!
Definitely the best cartoon EVER bugs bunny Pink Panther SUPER FRIENDS
All of those plus Speed Buggy,, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Popeye, Thundarr the Barbarian, Laff A Lympics, and Blue Falcon and Dynomutt
Growing up every Saturday am there was a marathon of bugs bunny and all his friends road runner Yosemite Sam etc....Warner Bros. cartoons to this day still a favorite... Pretty much anything with Mel Blanc!!!...
We have the Grinch coming up. Chuck Jones 😀
But not filmed in the 70's. They were the 40's and 50's
@@mikemclaughlin3306 some were made in the 60's.
These were definitely the best times of cartoons in the 70's. Will never forget. I lived to see every Saturday morning sitting in front of the tv with my favorite bowl of cereal. You couldn't pull me away.
freeedoom!
@@andyman8630 Yes so agree with you. What a crazy world we live in today. Life was so much simplier in those years.
The good old day's born in 1970. Im so glad l was born then. 70s and 80s were awesome.
Same here.
As a 1970s kid I remember the 3 main networks ABC ..NBC and CBS in a Saturday morning Battle to see who had the best cartoons we only had 1 tv at home so it was hard to makeup our minds..The 70s what a great time to be alive.
In 1970, I was 15

i was four - boomer!
sorry, just couldn't help it
@@andyman8630 No biggie
Yes, the very best of times. Before the God forsaken internet and social media ruined everything. And we watched cartoons Saturday morning and when they were over, ran outside and rode bikes and played all day until it was time to go home for supper. I miss those days terribly.
@@ge-ys1uz yes i miss those days terribly as well
My favorit is Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle.
Ok I’m officially old! Saturday morning was the best!
You’re old? I remember 60s cartoons!
Indeed
Cartoons from the 70s were great and very funny. I adore that era.
I remember watching Scooby-Doo in Sydney Australia in the early seventies in the afternoons, after school.
John, those of us kids in Melbourne were hooked on it too
I would always wake up a couple hours early. At 5am, you could catch re-runs of older toons - Mr Magoo, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Thunderbirds Are Go, and Stingray.
The 70s shows I watched - Grape Ape, Hong Kong Phooie, Jabber-Jaw, Speed Buggy, etc. Pretty much anything by Hanna-Barbera. I'm fairly certain I watched Return To The Planet Of Apes, Godzilla Power Hour, Super Friends, etc.
So true!!!!!!! I love my child hood era of cartoons and sweet cereals: from 70's and 80's!!!
I'm a child of the 70's and had the best cartoons EVER.
I watched pretty much all of the ones you listed and a few
you didn't, but the point is that the 70's will always be remembered
having the best cartoons that us 70's kids got to watch as kids.
I watched all these shows as a kid. Good times.
I also loved the Bugs Bunny/ Road Runner Hour.
Although it wasn’t a cartoon, I also loved the Banana Splits.
"Good times "was a good show in the 70's LoL. I had a membership to the banana split club. Though it was awesome. Born in 63
The Superfriends and Scooby Doo were my favorites.
yep the best
Love muttley!! That laugh still makes me laugh..
Sometimes when I want to sound sinister, I do Muttley's snickering laugh.
I am so glad that you put Fat Albert on the list, I would NEVER miss it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But you missed the #1 best cartoon of them all, Bugs Bunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not too sure if that one was from the 70's, but it was played in the 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What also about The Osmonds or The Jackson 5 or The Brady Kids or The Groovie Ghoulies?!?! Missed those as well on your list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would NOT miss those either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WB did a revival of Bugs in the late 60's early 70's. But he goes back to 1940 (Tex Avery... no Buggs name then). My fav was always Wile E Coyote (1949)
I watched Star Trek the Animated Series. I missed the bulk of Star Trek on NBC but then caught it in syndication.
Some of these cartoons are from the 60s and 80s ..like Jonny Quest and the smurfs....but being a 55 yr old boomer I grew up watching the GREATEST era for cartoons...the 1970s.
You forgot the roadrunner. I watched it every saturday morning with my dad even as a teenager🤗
Archie's TV Funnies! Impossible to forget. Specially the intro.
Hong Kong Phooey, Penelope Pitstop & Rocky and Bullwinkle were some of my faves. We definitely grew up in the best times
we sure did the very best times ever
Super friend's was definitely my favorite Saturday morning show!!!
A lot of 70s cartoons were part of the early 80s too. I remember them well. Superfriends. Spiderman. Jonny Quest. Space Ghost. Herculoids.
yep all of those shows were my favourites still are today lol
I also was a 70's kid watching all these cartoon shows from the 3 main networks and had my bowls of cereal too. My favorites were the Superfriends, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man.
yep me too love it so much
I loved School House Rock.
Conjunction Junction & I'm just a Bill are my favs 😀
Ditto!
Sanvirel Good one 😀
Ken Lompart I have to look for it, but I might have a VHS tape I got when my son was small. I was psyched to turn him on to all the old toons. Loves Scooby of course.
Ken Lompart Cool 😎 thanks!
Scooby Doo, School House Rock and Super Friends among my faves. But I’ll throw in Little Rascals, Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry
I grew up in the 1970's. These cartoons bring back a lot of memories. I did enjoy the Road Runner. Even if not a cartoon, I watched Puffnstuff and Sigmund and Lidsville. Those were the days.
Watch out for "Witchypo" LoL, flying in her hat😂
Scooby-Doo, Super Friends and Speed Buggy were my favorite cartoons.
Personally speaking, my favorite Saturday morning cartoons began in the mid 1960s with The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Space Ghost, The Herculoids, The Archies, etc. Of note, Scooby-Doo debuted in 1969!!
yeah daff they are all my faves too absolutely love em
When the world was ours .
Agreed!
Invincible is better than all those times 100
BORN IN 66, AND A KID DURING THE SUPER 70'S, YES IT WAS A GREAT DECADE TO BE A KID WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD TO GROW UP IN. CLASS OF ROCKIN 84 HERE. ROCK ON GEN XER'S!!!.
I loved Mutley on Wacky Races and They're Flying Machines.
I also loved Speed Racer, Hong Kong Phooey, Grape Ape, Yogi Bear, Wacky Racers, and Jabberjaw. I know HR Pufnstuf wasn't animated, but it sure was awesome.
You forgot to mention: Tarzan -Lord of the Jungle, Clue Club, and Waldo Kitty. But all in all, nothing beats Saturday morning cartoons of the 70's. Oh other shows I also remember are Jason of Star Command, Laff-a lympics
1967 Spider-Man was psychedelic with a really awesome jazz soundtrack.
yep love it
I remember every item and show listed...I was a child...last time my memory was good
Waking up early Saturday morning for cartoon awesomeness. Good times.
I was born in '62 and loved all of these
Captain Caveman was a favorite as was Godzilla.
And Gadzooky
I remember we had to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution and I couldn't remember just saying the words so thanks to Schoolhouse Rock I passed by singing the premable. Also passed English that year. Schoolhouse Rock saved my gpa in elementary and junior high
I LOVED Josie and The Pussycats!!!! Fat Albert was probably my FAVORITE!! God I miss those times 😔
yeah me too very much so
Too many great shows to mention came out of the 70’s. “Hong Kong Phooey”, the start of the “ABC Weekend Specials”, “Dyno Mutt”, “Laugh-A-Lympics”, “Globetrotters”, a great era for cartoons!
Wow I forgot about those.
also loved the funky phantom, batfink ,atom ant, motor mouse and auto cat , the groovie goolies , prince planet , marine boy , astro boy , gigantor and all the others that are mentioned loved the 60s and 70s as a kid we will never see the likes of them ever again miss those days very very much would give anything to be back there again
I was grown when the 70's came so the 50's and 60's were my thing. From Mighty Mouse to the Flintstones that was me as a kid. Shows like Crusader Rabbit and Deputy Dog and Courageous Cat and Dick Tracy. The 70's can't top those cartoons.
I remember TV Guide would put out a Fall Preview issue that always had a section for Saturday morning cartoons. I would read the descriptions of what was new and returning, and would circle the shows I just had to see. Though not a cartoon, my favorite Saturday show was Land of the Lost!
yep i absolutely loved that show
Tarzan Lord of the Jungle was one of the best. Highly moral, intelligent and has one of the most fascinating soundtracks ever. :)
I loved growing up as a kid in the 70s, I feel sorry for the young generation that they missed these great times..❤️
I agree. I was a kid in the 60's and a teen in the 70's.
yep the 60s and 70s were the greatest times ever we were incredibly lucky to have enjoyed the magic times back then because they will never happen again unfortunately
Going out with all your friends after cartoons . Go build a fort, ride your bike for miles. Get bumps and scratches, bruises. Tuff kids, not soft like today. Play on the phone
Scooby Doo was my absolute favorite cartoon! One that I also watched was Speed Racer :) I also enjoyed the Jetson's, but not sure what decade that show was from....
1962-1963, one season
@@chaosdemonwolf1 Wow! I was born in 1963, but remember watching that show in the 70's. I wonder why it only lasted one season :(
@@keriludwig2245 It got canceled due to ''lack of colour''. Most people only had B&W tv's back then. For those watching on a black-and-white TV, they missed out on the vibrant world Hanna-Barbera had created. Or so they claimed.
"Go Speed Racer"
*still number one to me in any decade!*
Speed Racer and Gigantor.
They are the ones that hooked me on Anime.
School House Rock so iconic!! Every cartoon listed on this video were the tops. Especially loved Josey and the Pussycats, Super Friends, Scooby Doo. Saturday mornings would be up so early with my bowl of Apple Jacks (which btw, on the front box was drawing of a girl with a heart and an upside down boy by the bowl of cereal ), watch the line up.
They were great cartoons on Saturday mornings.
Those were the good ol' days .. in every way.
Truthfully, kids today don't know what they missed.
Valley of the Dinosaurs, Tarzan, Time for Timer. What was "bad" about cartoons in the 70's was that there only 3 (or 4) tv channels & if you had 2 cartoons starting at the same time, you had to pick 1 watch. Most families didn't have VCRs then so you were screwed & had to miss the other.
The Super Friends were #1 in my house! Second was Scooby-doo.
It was good to be a kid on Saturday morning watching cartoons
love your list and the laugh olympics was a no miss show but johnny quest was my number 1
Speed racer , johnny quest, were the ishhh. I had my son hooked on scooby doo
My favorite is Speed Buggy! Love that car!
Wish cartoons were on network television
I turned 8 in 1970. Watched every one of those cartoons. Thanks! "Stop the pigeon! Stop the pigeon. Stop the pigeon!" HA HA HA
Who remembered Battle of the Planets .I used to love watching that
I think that might have been early 80's albeit influenced by Star Wars. That was the one with the hippy kids who became G-Force right?
Speed Buggy!! 'Who put antifreeze in my carburetor?
Who put chocolate in my peanut butter? Who put peanut butter in my chocolate?
Omg! I loved Speed Buggy
Good ol’ muttley
You mentioned my top three 70s cartoons, so I'm happy. Scooby Doo , where are you!, Josie and the Pussycats and Superfriends.
you have great taste i love all three of these shows as well fantastic magical memories
I watched Superfriends and Pink Panther every week. And I still remember a lot of the Schoolhouse Rock songs.
Superfriends. To see the Justice League come to life was great. Shazam was great too. Captain Marvel came back in the early seventies by DC comics and I loved it.
Johnny Quest was the best!!
I love it, my childhood ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can do the preamble to the Constitution as well and I still sing it either in my head or out loud. One day a friend of mine and I when we were at her job we sang it together and the books we got from her co-workers were priceless. A good time was had by all
Years ago there was a revival of Schoolhouse Rocks, and they sold videos, T shirts, etc. That was so fun!
I’m a kid of the 70’s, but when I grew up, I became an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. I showed School House Rock to all my classes. It was an incredible teaching tool. 😊
I'll agree with Scooby Doo and Superfriends as the best cartoons of the 70s. And even Schoolhouse Rock was worth watching, but was too short to be considered a regular feature. You never knew when a Schoolhouse Rock episode was going to show up.
But the best was the Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Hour, getting to see the classic Warner Brothers cartoons every Saturday.
There were other good ones, like the Flash Gordon cartoon. And wasn't Star Trek the Animated series shown on Saturday mornings?
And let's not forget the live action shows like Shazam/Isis, Ark II, or Land of the Lost.
His name was Muttley! Loved it! Scooby and Heckle and Jeckle!
My favorite cartoon of the 70s-Flash Gordon (which can be viewed here on YT); 2nd favorite-Tarzan, followed by Superfriends, and The Inspector portion from Pink Panther. Also, the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show.
Pink Panther...loved that theme song for it too.
Dastardly & Muttly and Penelope Pitstop shaped my childhood ☺
After school on Friday's I could not wait for Friday night staying up late watching tv and so excited to wake up with cartoons and most times would last until 2pm on Saturdays but 11 am on Sundays so sad on Sundays for some reason cartoons was cut short on Sundays. I'm 61 years old now. Those was the good years
Boy these take me back! You really learned how to drink a little bit so you didn’t go have to go to the bathroom until commercial! LOL
The Groovie Ghoulies, a rainy Saturday and a bowl of Count Chocula was the bomb!
I've got the full series! But for my taste, Frankenberry! 🤣
I miss those rainy Saturday mornings from the 70s.
@@subymanvinceawesome love it
School Rock was so great! If I hear then I still love them!
I loved them all and still watch scooby doo alot
yeah me too
I used to love watching cartoons on Saturday mornings, my favorite cartoons were Scooby-Doo, Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, and The Jetsons!
Although I wasn’t born in the 70’s, I watched Josie and the Pussycats my whole life throughout kindergarten. My favourite character from it was Alex Cabot iii. I absolutely love his fashion in the 70’s. He really inspired my fashion choice. And made me leap into the 70’s (as you can tell from my profile picture).
I still watch Hopalong Cassidy.....love his horse.
I was born in 1977 so a lot of these shows I saw were reruns but damn were they good. I’m a cartoon junkie.
As a kid of the 70’s I think Super Friends was my favorite.
I remember getting Muttley’s medals in cereal boxes.
these days, most people get their driver's licenses from cereal boxes...
My faves: Speed Racer, Jonny Quest, Scooby Doo, Superfriends and All-Star Laugh A Lympics. (Scooby Doobies, Yogi Yahooies, and the Really Rottens). Hong Kong Phooey was cool, too - even had the lunch box! 70’s Saturday mornings ruled! And when Land of the Lost came on, it was time to go out and play!
Saturday morning was the best! I loved bugs bunny, road runner, pink panther but Scooby-Doo rocked school house style. 😄😁
8:00 I remember reading that Superfriends character designer and comics artist Alex Toth had wanted to make The Joker a member of The Legion of Doom, but there was some fear about having a murderous clown as one of the villains and so it never came to pass.
I don't think Joker was a murderous clown at that time. The real reason is that Joker was appearing in filmation's Adventures of Batman at the same time.
Great walk down memory lane. Loved all of the ones you featured except for The Pink Panther.
My faves across decades: :The Flintstones Scooby Doo Where are You?, Wacky Races, Super Friends, Josie & the Pussy Cats, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons & the Simpson’s
Hanna Barbera has so many shows that most of them are unfairly forgotten
Loved Speed Racer and Scooby Doo
It makes me sick to know what Bill Cosby did
He's not the only one. We had a guy called Jimmy Savile that preyed on kids in his TV shows ( which there were many) and in a hospital where he did charity work. He was knighted for his "good" works that hid his real agenda. It is alleged that the BBC knew about him and turned a blind eye.
We even imported one from Australia, Rolf Harris. These things (not people) were like Cosby all goody gfoody until the truth emerged.
STFU
Im shocked that Hollywood hasn't made a Wonder Twins movie. Every other superhero has been done.
Wendy and Marvin could be the villains, upset about being replaced by the Wonder Twins!
@@macsnafu Add to Jan and Jana, Wendy and Marvin (and their dopey dog) Scrappy Doo, you would have the core of the most obnoxious cartoon characters of the 1970s!
I only remember Dastardly and Muttley and Scooby Doo, which began in the late 1960's. You missed The Hair Bear Bunch
I used to be furious whenever NBC would preempt the Pink Panther and run Big Blue Marble instead! How DARE they interrupt my entertainment with something educational!! Truth be told I actually learned to appreciate that show later on!!
