      Yea exactly. I doesn't matter how many bits you bolt on the crf300 and that it needs new suspension it's still a dual sport, and it will always win on an enduro lap.
      But it's clearly not the best option for what the majority of people actually use an adventure bike for.

      I picture advs as 70 on-road, 30 off-road while duel sports are the opposite. The Honda is closer to duel sport, and the KTM is more sport touring. I think they should have tested road performance, as well as long distance off-road comfort.

  • @carlmega9712

    Interesting. But, to me, selecting an adventure bike only makes sense if you are doing some sort of range/touring. Otherwise, even a basic dirt/dual sport will spank these bikes in the woods. Matters like - "how livable and usable is the bike loaded w/ your gear on it?" become important. As well as things like, comfort- noise/heat - reliability - serviceability - range - etc might prioritize higher than pure woods performance.

    I’m literally stuck between choosing the Himalayan or the 450MT. I like the 450MT more because it is superior in every way to the Himalayan, except for fuel consumption. 5.5 liters per 100 km is a bit high; if you use high RPM, it easily reaches 6.5 liters per 100 km. Come on, CFMoto, it’s only 450 cc, and that’s too much.
    Royal Enfield's fuel consumption is impressive-3.5 liters per 100 km. My friend has it, and when he pushes its limits, it’s a maximum of 3.8 liters, and he said he’s seen an average of 2.8 liters when riding in another city, around 90-100 km per hour. The Himalayan is best for fuel efficiency.
    My heart tells me to buy the 450MT, but fuel is very expensive where I live, so my brain tells me to buy the Himalayan. I’m tired of this dilemma; it’s even in my dreams lately.

I’ve seen the CF Moto in the highway and it’s not pretty 😅 the gear ratio seems very short and you end up revving the engine more than you’d like. I have some concerns about the longevity of the trio piston/rings/cylinder of the RE Himalayan. A measure of the cylinder piston stresses is the piston speed in meters second. The consensus Is 20 ms. Even a Honda CBR600RR is at just 20 m/s at 14250 RPM, a GS 1250 also 20 m/s. Even a turbo Ford Zetec 2.0 also 20 m/s. I can multiply the examples on motorcycles, cars, boats and even water cooled 4S plane engines.
    On the RE Himalayan the stroke is 81.5 mm and the power RPM is 8000, that gives a staggering piston speed of 21.3 meters second. To keep the piston at a decent speed of 13 m/s you have to stay under 5000 RPM, and that gives a pretty low speed on road as it's simply a 450 with maybe 145 kmh top speed at max RPM.
    For comparison the 650 Suzuki DRSE was 82 mm with 6500 max power RPM, and the DRSE cylinder piston had generally a 50000 km cylinder/piston life, a little abuse on cruising speed on the autobahn shortened the piston life. Similar stroke, but far less RPM.
    The longest life of the piston cylinder on a big mono was on the Yamaha XTZ 660, 84 mm stroke but only 6000 RPM with a top speed of 170 kmh, so at 110 you were around 4000 RPM with a piston speed of 11.2 m/s. There is no secret, it's in all the good engineering books.
    The 450 MT, bi-cylinder 270°, has a stroke of 55.2 mm. At 8500 rpm the pistons speed is 15.64 m/s, at 6500 rpm while cruising, the piston speed is a comfortable 11.96 ms. With a 15 teeth sprocket the speed is 112 kmh. There is no match with the RE, you can make ten hours like that and the engine won't suffer.

    Great video and agree with the conclusion - I was lucky enough to get one of the first batch of CFMOTO 450MT's in the UK - its a great all round package and a really good price - the throttle is not smooth at low speeds in traffic but an over the air engine map update and a 15 tooth sprocket to replace the 14 tooth at the front has noticeably improved things. Its got a lot presence - I've noticed a lot of people take notice of the bike. The engine is really good fun, the handling is great, good wind protection - the stock seat is too low for me at 6'1" knees are bent a lot to get feet on the pegs - I have a tall seat on order that puts the seat height at around 870mm - overall though im really happy....at work but want to go out on it now 😜

    CF MOTO really thought out the 450MT. The only thing I can ding it for is its weight. If they could find a way to lighten the 450 by 15-20 lbs without adding a much cost would be great. That said, the 450 is the one to beat for a well rounded, well put together, and well equipped ADV motorcycle. This is a motorcycle that can take you from beginner to intermediate ADV riding with ease.

    • @bena3341
      @bena3341 25 дней назад +2

      The MADtv review of it does mention it carries the weight quite well.
      But with a full exhaust, lithium battery, and removing the passenger pegs you could drop a good chunk of that weight you want gone. If you really wanted then replacing some fasteners and other parts drops the rest.
      All depends on how much money you want to spend.
      But of course you are then adding some of that weight back on with a skid plate, barkbusters, and side bags.

    Here’s a question , say you buy any of these bikes go solo off road and drop your bike on an uneven slippery surface.
    There is only one bike that can be reasonably picked up alone , and that is the Honda 300 rally.
    And at 152 kg wet , it’s not a doddle either , if you are a fit young guy nothing is very heavy , but for the average older person anything near 200kg wet is bloody heavy to lift solo.
    Remember your footing could be slipping , you could be on a hill ect .
    Add some luggage and that CF moto could weigh 210kg .

    • @iridium771
      @iridium771 27 дней назад +4

      The 300 rally might be lighter than the rest, but it also carries it's weight a lot higher, with having more ground clearance. Where that weight is located makes a lot of difference too, so I'd expect the KTM and Enfield to be easier to pick up than you'd think if you only look at the number on the spec sheet.

    The 390 definitely needs fork extensions and progressive fork springs for around $250 and flat pegs. That I agree with. After you fix the front end geometry the bike turns into a weapon due to the lower 172kg wet weight. Some might argue that you shouldn't have to upgrade a new bike but then again the 450MT needs crash bars and the CRF300 needs suspension upgrades as well so it turns into a wash.

After having both the CRF 250 and an XR650, the CRF is much more fun. It depends on your priorities. I’m heavy. I wouldn’t take a CRF on a road trip greater than maybe 100 miles. It wouldn’t be appropriate for the bike. But if the 100 miles were all off-road, without a doubt the CRF would be more fun. The perfect road trip is to put the CRF on a trailer behind a pickup truck, get to the wilderness, and then have fun.

    Enjoyed the vid, but if you're going to do an "Adventure" bike comparison, you have to include luggage. And its ability to comfortable carry & load her up. Personally, I put a deposit down on the Enfield, then the CF Moto was released at the same price point. I really wanted a twin & last year was looking for a low Km F800gs for the right price.
    I debated for a month or so between the Moto and the Enfield, eventually sticking with my first choice, the Enfield.
    Only time & thousands of k traveled will confirm I made the right purchase. I still have a nice KLX400r for local rides.
    Cheers from Downunder. 👍
    PS: I have fitted a RE Engine/Sump guard, a Luggage Plate, Taller Screen Barkbusters, bar risers & will most likely add a more comfortable "Adventure" seat I have long legs. Yes it is heavier than I would like, hopefully not picking it up too often. Well, that's the plan, 35% tar, 65% dirk roads/trails if I map well. Fuel range was also a consideration.

Watching Michael manhandle these bikes around the woods makes me wish we could see what he could do with some real off-road specials. Full-fat enduros? I don't know... just bikes with top-end suspension. I'd love that. I bet Michael would too!

    CRF 300 rally is 28% more expensive than CFMoto 450 mt, both stock configuration, if you add the cost of replacing the front suspension of CRF 300 rally and it's no brainer really, but a I have to admit that CRF is speck'ed more offorad oriented, 260cm suspension travel and 275mm ground clearance vs 200mm travel and 220mm ground clearance, on road thought cfmoto wins easily, my pick for mixed usage is 450MT.

    Either the Honda or the CF moto for me. The KTM isn't an off-roader at all. I'm looking at the bikes from a more off-road bias. To be honest if I was looking more towards a road ride. I'd probs end up with a naked bigger engined bike.

  • @pigpen65
    @pigpen65 27 дней назад +5

    Run all four through a road course now. The issue with reviews like this (for me ) is that these bikes are always treated like they are off-road bikes. Adv bikes aren't off road bikes. They aren't even dual sport bikes. They are road bikes that can go off-road. So I don't like that the tarmac ability is always glossed over in reviews. To me its a huge surprise that the 390 was even close considering it's going to be way way way more agile and fun on road with its short wheel base and 19" front

    • @rocketpac
      @rocketpac 27 дней назад

      True, most owners of ADV bikes (KTM 890, T7, etc.) that I know spend the vast majority of their time on the road, but the ones who actually know how to ride in the dirt can get to some amazing camping spots because they have that 21" front wheel.

      @@rocketpacSo you say that 19" front will prevent you from getting best camping places. It seems marketing has succeeded on you very well. I would say get the bike weight down first, then tyre thread pattern, and only after that worry about tyres sizes.

    All of these smallish bikes can be over-ridden.
    The new Himalayan 450 looks solid, sturdy and steady.
    The Honda needs an ECU, exhaust, new adjustable shock and new fork internals.
    The KTM is a KTM and thus quality and reliability is a concern.
