When she was talking about styling I got sad cuz I literally cANNOT think of a style for my shoulder length locs they’re thick and barely like being braided back😭 when I wake up they stand up and don’t go down till it’s saturated with water and frizz happens HOURS after rehitting😔
When my hair was that length I gave up on trying to make them “go down” and just played with how they stood up. A lot of half up, half “down”, 2-3 ponytails, Mickey Mouse buns, and when all else failed, tossing it in a wrap around my edges and letting my locs stick out on the top. A lot of palm tree vibes🌴. Braid-outs always give a dope look as well. Ur locs aren't going to behave so it’s up to u to find ways to play with them as they are. Let go of needing them to be neat and embrace the weird quirkiness they reside in. You can look at my earlier videos and my hair journey to see what I mean. Thank you so much for the quick reply!! And I definitely have been playing with twist outs (they were my go to even before starting my loc journey) love your channel girl!!💓
Yes the twist outs!! Trust me, even when it feels impossible you can always figure out something. Maybe you’ll scream 1st😅, but you WILL figure it out. You got this👌🏽💕
Same....but mine are small and I’m tender headed, and since my locs are short, styles are too tight and I get bumps. I can’t even interlock tight so it looks neat bc it hurts and my hair is so fuzzy still and my locs are pretty much mature now, I’m going on two years
Yes yes yes on minimalism! I'm 5 months into my journey, and it wasn't until I started locing that I realized how much of a product junkie I used to be. Now I have all these creams and conditioners that I can't even use anymore just sitting on my shelf 😂. I would give them to my mom but she keeps her hair straight. But anyway, I LOVE having locs, and I wish I started earlier. All I use is water, this natural oil pomade for moisturizing right after a wash, and my avocado + tea tree oil blend. My ish is thriving sis! 120 something locs but it's not a lot of work AT ALL. And don't even get me started on how much locs have helped me grow emotionally and spiritually. My confidence has sky rocketed, I'm getting more in tune with myself and the universe around me. It's beautiful 🥰
Yesssssss you betta give your testimonial sis! I love it🙌🏽💕. So true I had to donate my creams too lol, we don't have time. The spiritual and emotional growth is legit top tier and for you to be so early in your journey?? Prepare for the evolution chile😅🦋
I’ve had my starter locks for a little over 12 weeks and I already realize I hate gel and my shampoo. I gave all my old hair products to my sister. I’ve also retained all the length and I didn’t realize how fast my hair actually grows! And plus side, I tend to get my hair wet a lot and I prefer the puffy roots. Kinda love the messy look.
Yes!! It’s so dope that you’re already so tuned into how your hair thrives and embrace it as it! If you can do that now, then you will be unstoppable once they’ve matured👑
Funny you mentioned detangling as a con. I thought about locing my hair since I was like 7 (I’m 26 now) and I finally had the courage to do it because I just couldn’t be bothered to detangle my hair anymore 🤦🏾♀️. I cut like 2-3 hrs off of wash day and my only regret is that I didn’t start them 5-10 years ago.
Not having to detangle is honestly one of my fave pros bc it saves soooo much time and energy! I love how even in childhood u were like “nah I need something else” lol
I love your use of string to add color to your locs. An easy and natural way of adding character. I was going to bleach my hair, but I think I will use string instead. Thanks!
i’m thinking of getting locs soon so i’m looking for all types of info. just wondering, wouldnt dying the hair black make the lint more noticeable? and how often would u have to dye your hair because of the lint?
Tashur Raq most lint is white or grayish so when dyed it just blends in. It makes the lint invisible 😆 I don’t notice lint to often maybe twice a year the lint gets noticeable enough to get on my nerves and make me cover it in dye
You just glow!! Thank your for these tips! I love the part about surrendering to the process. I’m a control freak and the anxiety I get when it comes to things I can’t control of has really gotten to me. I’m excited for what my journey has to teach me. 🥰🙏🏾🙌🏾
TFS! I've been a loose natural for several years and will be starting my loc journey in less than 2 weeks so this was helpful and encouraging! New subbie!
Agreed 100% No detangle and minimal product are goals in this loc game!!!! Less is best and it helps your hair grow faster 👏🏾👏🏾 LOC'D for 3 years come December -K💜
For the lint issue, i’ve heard that actually brushing your locs (not like detangling-type brushing) with a soft bristle wave brush instead of picking at your locs can help and avoids them possibly thinning out :)
Your locs are gorgeous. Enjoyed your pros and cons, they were very accurate. Almost 3 years loc'd and I did an acv soak and it brought lint to the surface. I thought I was going to loose my mind, lol. Subscribing!

Omg amazing!! And thank you🙏🏾✨
Your energy is infectious. Dont ever change.
I live in my braid out. 2 styles in 1. And I dye my hair black to cover up the lint. I gave up on picking it out.
Yess 2 styles! You know dying it black makes perfect sense🤔Yea that may have to be my solution, I’m tired of hacking my hair open🤦🏽♀️
i’m thinking of getting locs soon so i’m looking for all types of info. just wondering, wouldnt dying the hair black make the lint more noticeable? and how often would u have to dye your hair because of the lint?

Depends on your base when you start..
Go thicker..
Best way to avoid that is to do a semi freeform, where you start with braids or twists, but you're not super concerned about a "clean" separated look at the scalp, and then just let your hair do what it does, occasionally retwisting at the roots or separating locs as necessary
