      Good morning this is the second or third time I’ve watched your video I love Your hair last night I started my locks again maybe this is about the fifth or sixth time I’ve started I’ll keep them In for a couple of days the longest I think I went was a month and then I took them down and start again and started again this time I’m going to keep them in and you said embrace your loc’s loc’s are suppose to grow whatever way they grow and they look the way they look and thank you for telling me to keep my hands out of my hair. my thing is I don’t know how to wash my hair I’m scared if I wash it I’ll take it down I’m not at the time right now to go to a loctician or someone to wash my hair I’ve been off work since February with a broken foot it’s not healing like it supposed to so I said I can do this sit here and embrace my lock’s so I just want to tell you thank you and keep doing what you’re doing and keep embracing your life journey because you are very beautiful with your loc’s and I want to get there too I’m going to get there so keep encouraging me the way that you do
      Thank You~ Robin

I didn't know about putting oil in my hair, keeping my hands out of my hair and the wig cap way of washing my hair. I'm going over to IG to follow you and check out your products. Keep up the informative videos my beautiful sister 🥰

    I know I'm not a loctician but I know for a fact that oil does not moisturize, it seals moisture in. Moisture needs to happen often (3 or 4 times a week) and moisture comes from water. Wetting your hair often keeps your locs moisturized and a lightweight oil will seal that moisture in. I'm surprised locticians are still telling people not to wet their locs. I hope that "advice" quickly fades out like beeswax lol .... dry locs is counter productive. But I love your locs and your nose ring and you're absolutely beautiful. Much love

      Yeah because I just got locs 12-18-2021 and they told me to only use water for 4 weeks just oil & my scalp is itchy , locs merging and dry. I look a hot mess. I came from being a natural. This is definitely a journey. Especially finding out what works for my hair

      Oil doesn’t “seal” because water evaporates. Also, oil and water don’t mix applies to one one’s hair as well.

He does go to a lock-tician but I do want to be more educated about locks so that I can support him through the process. 💙 He loves his little locks and I love that he loves them.

    Thank you so much for the information. I was ecstatic to see your locs were about the same length as mine so your information resonated with me more than other video's I've watched. I started my loc journey May 19, 2021 and my hair was about 3" long. I've had my 1st wash/retwist at my stylist but I want to learn how to wash and care for them when she's not available. My scalp is also very sensitive and I can't use coconut, olive or tea tree oils so imagine how excited I got when your video had no recommendation for their use! Thank you again for sharing your professional insight and information.

    Thank you, Courtney! You were amazingly informative. I've been on my loc journey for about 6 years. I'm 51 and my hair has never been this long and healthy. I too enjoyed having my locs at the shorter stage. I just love the
    "carefree" look. I'm still learning a lot about caring for my hair and I found your video to be insightful, educational and honest. I would like to learn more about the best oils to use for my hair as I have already purchased coconut and olive oil not knowing that they could cause more damage than good. Be Blessed.

      In her video on best oils for locs, she rephrased what she meant about olive & coconut oil.
      She basically said these 2 oils work better when mixed in with a more Lasting Carrier oil.
      My sister has very thin hair. She swears by Olive oil.
      But my hair is pretty thick; and Olive oil is nearly soaked in & ‘thirsty’ an hour or 2 after using it!! Similar results with the coconut oil.
      See Courtney’s 2nd video about the best oils to use.
      Again, they’re not bad, they’re just a bit too ‘lightweight to use on their own.

    I had my first set for 9 years, and you’re right, I didn’t like the baby phase, at all, but I loved, and missed the teen phase. But because I wanted to see my loose natural hair (hadn’t been loose natural since I was a child), I cut them off three yrs ago (Apr 2018), missed them, and restarted them on 10/20/21. Now I’m fully embracing the starter/baby phase.

      I just got my 2 strand twist locs too on 2/9! I'm only one week into this journey.. I have so many questions! My loctician has advised a couple of things but I've hear so much contrary to the advise:
      Newbie Loc Questions:
      1. Prior to starting my new twist My hair was washed and conditioned and conditioner washed out no oil. I was told that I should have used a clarifying shampoo by another loctician. Tru or False?
      2. Hair was interlocked at root, 2 strand twist at bottom. She used TGIN rose water which was a bit filmy to me and made my thick yet fine 4B,C hair extremely soft🥺. Some have unraveled.
      3. Upkeep - She recommended that i spray the TGIN rose water for moisture and only oil scalp as needed not the hair yet since they are not matured yet?
      If I'm not going anywhere, she says keep them in 2 french braids so I'm not manipulating the. Contrary to another who has told me that my hair should be loose so they can start forming locks?? True or false?
      I'm so confused because I read so many different things and everyone says trust the process and enjoy the journey but since everyone's hair is different every stylist is different you just don't know.
      I love this channel because there's a lot of good advice out here but I wanted to speak to someone whose locks are flourishing who have two strand twists.
      I would love to chat further on Instagram if you have a channel and I can send you a picture.

    I actually find that shampooing the locks help the process even faster. Shampooing it every 2 weeks at the beginning stage. That keeps the locks clean and the water helps it to bind together quickly. Also keeping it moisturized with water, and the oil locking in the moisture. Then after they mature getting a retwist every 4 to 6 weeks works fine depending on what the client likes. Of course no tight styles every visit. But hey it's our own journey and our clients. As long as their hair is healthy and they still have all of their hair strands and edges with no build up then it's all good!

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  2 года назад +8

      Yup! I’m moreso and advocate of letting the hair do what it needs to do. My goal is not to “make the hair loc faster”. Typically those methods involve drying the locs out, which I will never suggest.

    As a loctician you should also know you should never wear any loc jewelry or manipulate your starter locs at this stage is the most crucial. Just wanted to make that known as I've been doing research on my locs for many years. Also It can cause breakage, I waited at least a year before up dos and wearing loc jewelry I just found that it works best. Also for washing hair as "normal " to each is own everyone is different so it goes as a personal preference. Washing my hair works best for me 2-3 weeks with low manipulation and once a month retwisting in my early stages. Again to each is own. As the locs mature I believe less retwisting is better it strengthens and helps with less breakage also helps with thickening. Just some ideas I thought helped me definitely less is more. I've used oils essential oils and rose water and I love aloe vera gel as a retwist gel its less buildup they are all my best friend. Simple regimen is the key to hair growth and less damage. Health over looks! Light n Locs!🌤 Peace loc family 🙏🏽👊🏾

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  3 года назад +40

      Always health over looks! Just as many of the other things you mentioned as “to each their own”, using loc jewelry is the same. I recommend very lightweight jewelry like the shell I have. A lot of the time, the heavier jewels won’t fit starter locs anyway. Thanks for your input. ♥️

    • @iniyah891

      @@CourtneyGrayton personally I don't use loc jewelry on my starter locs I wouldn't want to interrupt any locing progression that my hair is experiencing but I get it I used to on my first loc journey but this is my second loc journey and I decided to start a second loc journey for personally reasons,but I'm making sure on this journey I am having the upmost natural experience and excepting what ever how ever my hair wants to loc so you can say I'm semi free forming. Ms. Grayton, I am very grateful for the time and knowledge you share with us. I asked about styles in starter locs before and understood clearly that it was ok. I want to be clear on the length of time ok to leave the style up? I was told I can leave it up until my next retwist in 4 weeks. I don't have to take it down at all. Just mist my scalp & hair daily and oil my scalp like once or twice a week in the style. She said a lot of the customers with starter locs & mature locs that get a style always do that. If they take it down it maybe a day before their appointment. But I don't have to she will. My 1st style was done the day of my install 6/29/22 and ended up being too tight for my nape area. By the 2nd day, it came down. But that loctician had told me to take it down after about 2 weeks to let my hair breathe a couple of weeks before the retwist. I just had my 1st retwist at the 6-week mark because my original loctician had issues with the salon and resigned. I was blessed to get in the salon and with the loctician I truly wanted to begin my journey with after that happened the day before my 4week retwist appointment. The reason for 1st retwists at 6 weeks this past Tuesday. So glad I have taken this step in my life. I loved my loose natural hair but as it got long it became a chore that was making me very unhappy.
