    The Virgo in me is commitment phobic to restarting because of my pale scalp and various hair textures around the sides and back just as you said. Your honesty is refreshing and clarifying.

      Pale scalp? Then give your scalp more sun exposure? Idk, sounds like you're overthinking it (which isn't due to some stars in the sky). You might just need to determine whether you really want locs or should instead go with temporary styling such as twists or faux locs. Trying a temp style out first can help you determine.

    Just started my 2nd set of locs last week. Did my own diamond parts with 2 mirrors and all my shoulder muscle strenf. Took my time and they turned out great! (Definitely some triangles around the edges and middle) Going semi free form, so I look forward to see how they move once they loc and grow

    Starting my locs, the girl I'm probably going to go to is both a loctican & stylist. She has locs and is very experienced so I trust her to do it correctly. I haven't really seen a style that wasn't doable with diamond parts. Sooooo diamond parts, 90-120 locs, comb curls, smedium parts maybe? That's my goal 😁.

    I LOVE ❤️ the practical knowledge you give with our explanations! After having had 5 sets of locs in the past (I'm loose narural now, but not by choice 😪), & all the frustration that came with each set & dealing mostly with stylists who didn't know their 💩, I can NOW pretty much tell right off when a stylist DOES know their craft. I justvwish I had known about the different parting systems when I did have locs. The only 1 I knew if was the brick format. Well, that & the freeform method. And although the idea of not having to be anal about maintaining my parts appealed to me, the idea that some of my locs could be the size of a tree trunk, & others could be thinner than a spaghetti 🍝 noodle at random places on my head was a greater turn-off than the sporadic maintenance aspect of that style was appealing.
    I wish you were in ATL as that's where I'm moving in less than a month. It seems that the locticisns I vibe with are always someplace far away from where I'm currently at. Do you have any loctician friends in ATL that have the same philosophies pertaining to their styling methods & similar level of knowledge as you that you could refer me to?

I'm starting my loc journey next month and I have thick thick hair and I want it to be full but not to scalpy as well as lay nicely.

    • @nnenne4
      @nnenne4 3 месяца назад

      It depends on if you get sister or micro locs vs traditional locs. Sister locs are high maintenance and so are micro locs. They require no products especially at the beginning and you are required to braid and band to ensure the locs are not fusing. This and the time to start and retie the locs are why I won't do those but I had traditional locs and I just want them a bit smaller.

I made some of my locs smaller and the rest medium, My hair is super thick and very dark so you can't really tell too much when my hair is down but I havent seen anyone else talk about having locs that are different sizes and its starting to make me question if its okay or not. I’m starting my loc journey myself, next month. I’m very excited. I like the “informal” parting idea. I do have a question. I have a somewhat sensitive scalp (which is why I make my own oils, butters and flaxseed gel.) do you have any recommendations for what NOT to do with a sensitive scalp/skin?? I got loc gel (natural ingredients) and I use a diluted leave-in, mixed with aloe and rose water, sealed with my oil (very light). Is that doing too much?? I’m a low porosity mixed type 4.

    So how do I help my clients that have thinning hair I see this more with my older clients especially if they're taking like medicines and things for like certain conditions or is that something that I should direct them to a dermatologist for. Because I am pursuing my esthetician license but I'm not sure how to help them and I don't wanna stir them wrong

    I had triangle partings and im actually angry because they were triangle for a year then i went to another hairstylist because i started living in another country. 1 year and a half later i noticed that the hairstylist who was doing my hair changed my patterns into irregular shapes… most of my hair is no longer triangles. It’s just different shapes… some are squares, rectangles, some triangles and some another shape that doesn’t exist lol… just to say i am not happy… she knows how to do triangle patterns so its weird to me that she wasn’t respecting the pattern I initially had… how is it that i am not a loctitian but have managed to keep my exes hair in triangles (he had his locs for 8 years)but she is a hairdresser and couldn’t keep my hair in triangles 😅?! Moral of the story she is a hater 😅 I m officially going to another hairdresser and this time it won’t be a hairstylist, I am going to a loctitian. Be careful people there is a difference! I would have gone by a loctitian from the beginning but i wasn’t finding any but thankfully i found one now and will see how i could get my triangles back. That other hairdresser used to tell me that when she posted my hair (that’s when i first started to go at her salon, my hair was still triangles) that people used to comment on how they loved my patterns so much… so my question is why did she change my pattern, for some reason my soul is telling me hate… i will listen to my intuition this time 😅 i am done with her.
