Leon’s theme is probably the worst champion theme in the franchise by a wide margin. The game still has a phenomenal soundtrack but by Pokémon standards it’s inbetween gen 7 and 9, both of which are a LOT better.
I love the context of the legendary quartet. They're basically golems animated by pure human sin, but they take the forms of really naive and peacefully demeanored animals, though they accidentally cause disasters simply by living their lives. Even aside from the possibly direct metaphors in there the choice to word the lore very specifically to not imply that any of them necessarily act out of malice on their own makes them feel really natural and majestic. It's a really cool concept
I like the design ideas of Wo-Chien personally out of the four. Yes, Penny is a girl. And yes, her theme is an absolute rave banger, and the points you touch on about her theme all pertain to her too. And yes, the Area Zero story absolutely hard carries this game. I REALLY recommend you reacting to the Area Zero theme too.
Toby Fox stated in his newsletter that he made "Tera Raid Battle," "Academy Ace Tournament," and "Battle! Zero Lab." "Area Zero" was composed by Toby but arranged by Go Ichinose, and Toby composed the melody from "Academy" which was also used in several field themes, but all of the songs with that melody were made by other musicians. The final boss theme is "Battle! Zero Lab," which makes it the only one of the songs in this video he composed for.

Ill never forget getting the glitch while I was playing where, for the elite four battles, instead of hearing the whole song i just heard the eerie main notes that it opened with on loop alone LOL i was like geez this is an ominous vibe for elite four, didnt know it was a glitch until later.

The loop is "intentional", basically it is supposed to play as long as the dialogue is up. Meaning no matter how long the player takes to start the battle, the music won't start beforehand. The problem was that the bug (most likely caused by the general memory leak problem. Also the reason why simply restarting fixes the problem) caused the trigger to end the loop to not trigger and the loop just continued on.
Amazing video as always, but it is a shame you missed out on the Team Star Boss and Team Star Grunt theme. The Team Star Grunt theme is genuinely so crazy since it is a phenomenal sounding theme but it is supposed to be just for mere grunts, yet the song has a full 40 second intro when the grunt battles don't even last that long. The intro itself is okay, but the rest of the song is beyond incredible, but you never really hear it in game because of how short the grunt battles are.
Just wanted to add that Toby Fox did not compose the entirety of the soundtarck, heck most of the songs you reacted to weren't even his. It is confirmed he composed 3 or 4 tracks and creates a few leitmotifs here and there, but there are actually more compositors to the OST
For me, the best theme in the game has to go to Final Boss. It already sounded just so Toby Fox to me, but those guitars at the end right before the buildup to the loop really locked it in. Those guitars just slapped me in the face with a small helping of Hopes and Dreams/Save the World/Last Goodbye so I had no choice but to love it. That "Toby Fox guitar" soundfont is just incredible.
A bit of an explanation of the final boss fight: The final boss of each version is a robot version of the game’s professor. Scarlet has Sada and Violet has Turo. During the battle, the AI Professor literally uses Pokemon from the past (Sada) or the future (Turo)

The Treasure of Ruin legendaries are one of my favorite groups of legendaries in the series, they all grew on me so fast. They continue the tradition of legendaries being hidden somewhat. The cool thing about them is that you can technically go seek them out at any time no matter how little you have progressed through the game, you just have to know that they're out there and the steps you need to take to reach them, and you also need to be strong enough to actually take them on in battle because they're very strong lol. These four Pokemon originate from 4 cursed artifacts gifted to the king of the Paldea region in a time long past. These objects manifested these terrifying creatures brought forth by human negativity. Wo-Chien is a snail whose shell is made of wooden tablets with inscriptions of a kings misdeeds written by a commoner who was eventually punished for writing them. Wo-Chien is capable of cannibalizing entire forests of their life energy and was responsible for a famine. Chien-Pao is a saber-toothed tiger/leopard/weasel whose teeth are made from a sword imbued with the hatred of the lives taken by its blade. It can cause avalanches and in battle it acts surprisingly playfully. Ting-Lu is a moose/deer with horns made from a sacrificial ritual vessel brought to life by the fear poured into it. It can rupture the earth with deep fissures using its head. Chi-Yus eyes are made from beautiful beads that inspire great envy. It melts the ground and swims through the resulting lava. They're all extremely powerful. Pokemon actually has an official competitive scene believe it or not and these Pokemon are known there for being difficult to use but extremely rewarding. Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu rank near the top in terms of usage stats, as they have passive abilities that lower the defensive stats of every other Pokemon on the field while they are in use, which makes them excellent partners for other offensive Pokemon. One of my favorite things about legendary Pokemon like these or the Legendary Beasts is that despite being fearsome and larger than life if you can prove your worthiness by catching them you will earn their trust and friendship.
For some context, the four legendary Pokémon are sealed because they're said to brought damnation to an old kindom that was in the region long ago. You can get them on your map if you do the History Lessons. We have a school setting so we have some classes of course. Penny is a girl, and as you expect it is a very important battle, just it isn't as hype as as it sounds without spoilers, I consider the situation very sad. Is is easy one of the best tracks and it fits Penny. Well yes this Pokémon is crystal, it's terastallization, the new mechanic, you can change every Pokèmons type or at least boost matching attacks. It's not the best but not the worst either. The bosses aren't the champion, they're more the professors. But you just meet one Sada in Scarlet and Turo in Violet. Also a special story here, but basically the entire Region is at stake. The possesion is due to the prof being an AI made by the original and is now controlled by a security program. SPOILER (Maybe) they're using Pokémon from the past (Sada) or future (Turo) this makes it harde to guess the typing. I really like the violet style, and more then half of my teams consists of this Paradox-Pokémon.
Tony didn't do all the music, I think he did the Sado/Turo battle theme the 'Academy' overworld theme, and the tera raid battle? Might be a few others? Best story since Black and White, not sure if thats saying much knowing how badly the narrative of Pokemon has been in recent times, the DLC seems to be carrying forward the story well too
The Legendary Quartet is my second favorite legendary theme following the Weather Trio. It’s got the same ‘ancient’ vibe mixed with a quick beat that makes perfect sense for uncovering an animate artifact of a mysterious civilization

Sada and Turo are the professors of this generation and parents to your friend Arven, depending on the game one of them went insane while exploring Area Zero and the other ran away in fear, in Scarlet Sada became obsessed with bringing pokemon from the distant past while in Violet Turo used the machine to bring pokemon from the far future, these are the pokemon they use in the video as well as the games' mascots, Koraidon and Miraidon.
so fun fact guess who helped work on the music? It's Toby Fox the guy who made Undertale and Deltarune. Also here is a really cool OST to listen to and analyze *cough* it's a video game that is getting a remake next year known as "Paper Mario: the thousand year door" I stumbled upon this game since the remaster was announced and it has a really cool soundtrack, if I could name a few it would definitely be the main theme, petal meadows and the battle theme, that is to name a few. Also if you want to, my favorite songs in scarlet/violet is Mesagoza riding theme and south province.
Yeah, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may be- okay, *are* weak in the technical and graphical department, but I love both the music and the story of the games.
Crystaling Pokémon is a major power boost, it gives a type change or a type power up depending on you. Basically you can switch types right in the middle of battle and it changes the battle flow in an instant. You can switch from fire to water type and oops water attacks don’t do much anymore or power up an attack type you have already. It’s a major boost or hindrance depending on the exact type you get. It’s crazy the combinations you can have. You use it after 4 turns which is fine as you fine tune your battle plan.
Absolutely love Pokemon music! Both Penny's battle theme and the Final Battle are some of my favorites from Scarlet/Violet, but I don't think anything will top the Academy Ace Tournament battle theme.
The two final bosses are robots hence the AI name as they are artificial intelligence. Fortunately both are version exclusive as each is their own game so you fight one or the other. The woman is a booster fight spamming the ability of prehistoric Pokémon to increase their stats through booster energy items while the male spams the electric terrain so he can get boosted in speed while you can’t use attacks that force sleep. You get the right Pokémon you can walk right through them.
Yes, Larry (the guy in the black suit) *does* look like a would-be serial killer, and therefore a Dark-Type trainer, but nope! He actually appears *twice* in the main game: first as a Gym Leader, then as one of the Elite Four. And he uses two different teams and Types for each battle. As a Gym Leader, he specializes in Normal-Types. As an Elite Four, he switches to Flying-Types. He’s also the embodiment of “overworked”, which is why his eyes look so flat. The Final Boss depends on which version of the game you’re playing. In Scarlet, you’re facing Sada, the woman, who specializes in Paradox Pokémon from the ancient past. Spoiler: time travel insanity is involved here. Violet’s final boss is Turo, the man, who uses a team of Paradox Pokémon from the distant future.
For context of all the songs you reviewed here: The Legendary Quartet are also known as the Ruinous Quartet. They are pokemon born of a bunch of human sin and greed and darkness housed within 4 relics: A bunch of tablets, a sword, a vessel (bowl?) and beads. They are legendary pokemon that are -very- fun to fight. Penny is the leader of Team Skull, and her theme is -bumpin-. She's an eeveelution trainer, and most definitely a fun fight. YOu actually fight her at the end of one of the 3 storylines in the game, and she becomes an integral part of the story, and one of your close friends. The Elite 4 is... simple. They are the 4 Elite trainers who stand between you and the Champion of the game. Strong trainers meant to test the player, to see if your team is up to snuff. It's a jam. Also, as a fun tidbit: This song was bugged on release, and there was a very unfortunate bug where the first... 4 or 5 seconds would play on repeat, if you had the game open for a while prior to fighting them. Just that same 2 or 4 lines of music over, and over, and over. As for the final boss theme, you are right. It's not a champion theme. In this game, there are 3 storylines. 1 has you do the gym challange, beat the Champion, and etc, as normal. 1 has you fight Team Star, a bunch of students that are actively causing trouble, that ends in fighting Penny. The 3rd has you help another guy, Arven, gather herbs from giant "Titan" pokemon to help heal his sick dog. It's fantasitc. But, after all 3 are done, you get the final chapter, where you enter the mysterious Area Zero in the center of the map. It turns out, the professor of this game discovered a way of using a time machine to bring pokemon from a different time period (Possibly different dimension) to ours. From ancient past in Scarlet, or Distant future in violet. These pokemon are very powerful and threaten the ecosystem of the entire region, and we need to shut it down. At the bottom of the area, you learn that the professor died years ago, and you've been talking to an AI-powered robot fashioned after the professor, who wants the machine shut down before it hurts anybody. Before we can, however, the time machine's programming forces the AI to fight us, and we learn that the original professor would literally risk the world's safety just to continue her experiment, and continue the machine's existance. It's a -very- good, extremely climactic battle, and the song absolutely drives it home. My personal favorite part is that you can hear Undertale themes peek through during the final boss theme, lmao.
The treasures are actually based on Chinese folklore of the four directions. Dragon, Phoenix, Quinlan, and tiger. The animals represent the mystical world and the real world. Pokémon used a snail because it’s a native species located in Spain but they didn’t want to use another dragon as they had a lot of them this time around. Most of the Pokémon in scarlet and violet are based on Spanish species just with their own flair. The entire game is based in Spain although the name was changed for copyright reasons.
When I battled penny for the first time I just stopped in the middle of the battle to just jam If you like the callbacks in the elite 4 theme you will really like the champion theme, though the theme doesn’t suit Geeta cause she’s a joke.
The Elite Four theme trumpet riff I swear is from Final Fantasy 4. It's the exact same riff. Had to skip the first track since the Treasures of Ruin are about the only thing I haven't done in this game yet but I do know their story---you track down these creatures that had once destroyed the region, because your history teacher (who is totally a supervillain but the game never does anything with this) told you to. Did anyone ever *giveyouaswitch* since this was recorded? Penny is a great character even if her battle is over too fast. But that's also sort of the point. She's not cut out for the role she's put herself into and is well aware of this. "Sounds like crystals!" well yes there's a very good reason for that. Crystals play a huge role in the final area, and both the boss and the machine they're on are powered by them. It would have been great if you could have experienced this without spoilers though because the final area is a *massive* gutpunch. "Please...defeat me" is only scratching the surface of how tragic these two are. God ikr I want to be able to play as a character my age. It's even an all-ages school! But you make an adult friends with teenagers, people will call it "suspicious" as if platonic friendships between age groups is somehow impossible. Oh also, regarding Penny, I know everyone's told you she's a girl by now, but funny thing is her uncle and father (who don't appear in this game but were in an earlier one) both have very distinctly feminine names.
Area zero Pokémon are based entirely on futuristic or prehistoric creatures. It’s believed that they actually came through a time portal. These Pokémon lose their original modern typings and gain two new ones. They are seriously strong and are tough to catch unless you are prepared for a fight. It’s a lot better than convergent Pokémon which are Pokémon that might look similar but don’t have the same biome and evolved totally differently. Like whooper that dropped its ground typing to adapt to a dry acidic environment gaining poison type and changing evolution completely to become Clodsire and gaining the ability poison point which poisons on physical contact from the own tempo ability or the unaware ability which ignore certain types of damage. Frogs and toads do this a lot like the cane toad in Australia which used to lay eggs now they evolved to give birth to lots of live young all in the span of a few years. Rainforest frogs have quickly evolved to use as little water as possible to lay eggs and develop fast which the average pond frog needs lots of time and water to survive yet they are still frogs but a distinct species that evolved differently to suit rainforest needs.
Those crystal transformations are called Terastalization! The region of Paldea possesses a unique form of energy deep below the earth called Terastal energy. They've harnessed the power using a device called a Tera Orb, which they can use to Terastalize their Pokemon. It's a thing that you can only use once per battle but any Pokemon is able to use it. Using it causes the Pokemon to transform into their Tera type, which is sort of complicated to explain but try to imagine it this way: so Charizard is normally a Fire/Flying type, so most Charizards will have one of those 2 as their Tera type. Let's pretend we have a Charizard with a Flying Tera type. When it Terastalizes, it keeps the boost to fire moves that its typing gives and its flying type moves become even stronger, but on defense tho it's no longer weak to water, it's only a flying type now until the end of the battle. Now it's also possible to find a Pokemon with a rare Tera type, a type that isn't one of its original types. For instance, a Charizard with a Steel Tera type. If that Charizard were to Terastalize, it would keep its boosts to flying and fire type moves in addition to gaining a boost to steel type moves, but defensively it would become purely a steel type. Instead of being weak to water rock and electric, it would be weak to ground fire and fighting. You can also have a Pokemon change their Tera type to a rare one with a special process which isn't too hard to do, you just have to go to this one person that can do it for you and bring specific materials. It's a really fun mechanic that allows you to power up your moves or give your Pokemon the upper hand against a Pokemon who would normally have the advantage. The type that it changes to is visualized with a crystal crown. For instance the fire crown is a chandelier, the grass crown is a flower and the water crown is a fountain. It's sort of a simple mechanic once you understand it and can be a little underwhelming compared to Mega evolution but it's still very strong and the fact that any Pokemon can use it makes for so many possibilities, and in my opinion I think the crowns look really cool.
You’ve got to hear the Team Star and Area Zero themes! Toby Fox did good on the final boss theme and a couple others in the game. This game as touted as having the best story next to like Pokémon gold/silver… even with all the bugs and glitches that happened. It’s a darker Pokémon game…
Since you did this the soundtrack has been expanded by The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero DLC, so this along with tracks you haven't covered yet, you have at least two or three more videos of this format to get out of the full OST.
The most frustrating part of the Elite Four music for me was the fact that there was a memory leak problem at the game's launch, and this made it so that only the very first part was played throughout all of the fights. I kinda blasted through the entire Victory Road storyline and only in about a month did I find out that the bug prevented me from listening to one hell of a banger. First impression was pretty much ruined by that time
Anyways if you do this again I would do the area zero theme. I honestly prefer it to all the battle themes; definitely the best zone music dropped by game freak (because toby did it)
Clarification: Toby didn't compose them, he helped with some, and gave ideas or inspiration to some of them, but he was basically on the sideline giving supervision while the actual pokemon composition team worked

Chien-Pao is a saber-toothed tiger/leopard/weasel whose teeth are made from a sword imbued with the hatred of the lives taken by its blade. It can cause avalanches and in battle it acts surprisingly playfully. Ting-Lu is a moose/deer with horns made from a sacrificial ritual vessel brought to life by the fear poured into it. It can rupture the earth with deep fissures using its head. Chi-Yus eyes are made from beautiful beads that inspire great envy. It melts the ground and swims through the resulting lava.
They're all extremely powerful. Pokemon actually has an official competitive scene believe it or not and these Pokemon are known there for being difficult to use but extremely rewarding. Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu rank near the top in terms of usage stats, as they have passive abilities that lower the defensive stats of every other Pokemon on the field while they are in use, which makes them excellent partners for other offensive Pokemon.
One of my favorite things about legendary Pokemon like these or the Legendary Beasts is that despite being fearsome and larger than life if you can prove your worthiness by catching them you will earn their trust and friendship.
For some context, the four legendary Pokémon are sealed because they're said to brought damnation to an old kindom that was in the region long ago. You can get them on your map if you do the History Lessons. We have a school setting so we have some classes of course. Penny is a girl, and as you expect it is a very important battle, just it isn't as hype as as it sounds without spoilers, I consider the situation very sad. Is is easy one of the best tracks and it fits Penny. Well yes this Pokémon is crystal, it's terastallization, the new mechanic, you can change every Pokèmons type or at least boost matching attacks. It's not the best but not the worst either. The bosses aren't the champion, they're more the professors. But you just meet one Sada in Scarlet and Turo in Violet. Also a special story here, but basically the entire Region is at stake. The possesion is due to the prof being an AI made by the original and is now controlled by a security program. SPOILER (Maybe) they're using Pokémon from the past (Sada) or future (Turo) this makes it harde to guess the typing. I really like the violet style, and more then half of my teams consists of this Paradox-Pokémon.

Best story since Black and White, not sure if thats saying much knowing how badly the narrative of Pokemon has been in recent times, the DLC seems to be carrying forward the story well too
The Legendary Quartet is my second favorite legendary theme following the Weather Trio. It’s got the same ‘ancient’ vibe mixed with a quick beat that makes perfect sense for uncovering an animate artifact of a mysterious civilization
For context, the treasures of ruin are actually items that absorbed so much negative emotion and energy from humans that they came to life and became pokemon. The bodies are just constructs while the actual pokemon are the objects.
Wo Chien = wooden tablets making up its shell
Chien Pao = swords that make up its fangs
Ting Lu = cauldron that make up its horns
Chi Yu = beads that make up its eyes.
Fun fact about the final boss theme, it's partially a sinister remix of the Tera Raid Battle Theme. The game does a LOT of re-incorperation when it comes to to that twinkling arpeggio phrase as a sign that something is related to Terastalization and/or Area Zero.

Sada and Turo are the professors of this generation and parents to your friend Arven, depending on the game one of them went insane while exploring Area Zero and the other ran away in fear, in Scarlet Sada became obsessed with bringing pokemon from the distant past while in Violet Turo used the machine to bring pokemon from the far future, these are the pokemon they use in the video as well as the games' mascots, Koraidon and Miraidon.
We don't know why the other professor left, especially since this would have been fairly early on in their research.
so fun fact guess who helped work on the music? It's Toby Fox the guy who made Undertale and Deltarune. Also here is a really cool OST to listen to and analyze *cough* it's a video game that is getting a remake next year known as "Paper Mario: the thousand year door" I stumbled upon this game since the remaster was announced and it has a really cool soundtrack, if I could name a few it would definitely be the main theme, petal meadows and the battle theme, that is to name a few. Also if you want to, my favorite songs in scarlet/violet is Mesagoza riding theme and south province.

Crystaling Pokémon is a major power boost, it gives a type change or a type power up depending on you. Basically you can switch types right in the middle of battle and it changes the battle flow in an instant. You can switch from fire to water type and oops water attacks don’t do much anymore or power up an attack type you have already. It’s a major boost or hindrance depending on the exact type you get. It’s crazy the combinations you can have. You use it after 4 turns which is fine as you fine tune your battle plan.
My favorite theme out of the ones of this reaction is the Elite 4 one
Absolutely love Pokemon music! Both Penny's battle theme and the Final Battle are some of my favorites from Scarlet/Violet, but I don't think anything will top the Academy Ace Tournament battle theme.

The two final bosses are robots hence the AI name as they are artificial intelligence. Fortunately both are version exclusive as each is their own game so you fight one or the other. The woman is a booster fight spamming the ability of prehistoric Pokémon to increase their stats through booster energy items while the male spams the electric terrain so he can get boosted in speed while you can’t use attacks that force sleep. You get the right Pokémon you can walk right through them.

Yes, Larry (the guy in the black suit) *does* look like a would-be serial killer, and therefore a Dark-Type trainer, but nope! He actually appears *twice* in the main game: first as a Gym Leader, then as one of the Elite Four. And he uses two different teams and Types for each battle. As a Gym Leader, he specializes in Normal-Types. As an Elite Four, he switches to Flying-Types. He’s also the embodiment of “overworked”, which is why his eyes look so flat.
The Final Boss depends on which version of the game you’re playing. In Scarlet, you’re facing Sada, the woman, who specializes in Paradox Pokémon from the ancient past. Spoiler: time travel insanity is involved here. Violet’s final boss is Turo, the man, who uses a team of Paradox Pokémon from the distant future.

The Legendary Quartet are also known as the Ruinous Quartet. They are pokemon born of a bunch of human sin and greed and darkness housed within 4 relics: A bunch of tablets, a sword, a vessel (bowl?) and beads. They are legendary pokemon that are -very- fun to fight.
Penny is the leader of Team Skull, and her theme is -bumpin-. She's an eeveelution trainer, and most definitely a fun fight. YOu actually fight her at the end of one of the 3 storylines in the game, and she becomes an integral part of the story, and one of your close friends.
The Elite 4 is... simple. They are the 4 Elite trainers who stand between you and the Champion of the game. Strong trainers meant to test the player, to see if your team is up to snuff. It's a jam. Also, as a fun tidbit: This song was bugged on release, and there was a very unfortunate bug where the first... 4 or 5 seconds would play on repeat, if you had the game open for a while prior to fighting them. Just that same 2 or 4 lines of music over, and over, and over.
As for the final boss theme, you are right. It's not a champion theme. In this game, there are 3 storylines. 1 has you do the gym challange, beat the Champion, and etc, as normal. 1 has you fight Team Star, a bunch of students that are actively causing trouble, that ends in fighting Penny. The 3rd has you help another guy, Arven, gather herbs from giant "Titan" pokemon to help heal his sick dog. It's fantasitc. But, after all 3 are done, you get the final chapter, where you enter the mysterious Area Zero in the center of the map. It turns out, the professor of this game discovered a way of using a time machine to bring pokemon from a different time period (Possibly different dimension) to ours. From ancient past in Scarlet, or Distant future in violet. These pokemon are very powerful and threaten the ecosystem of the entire region, and we need to shut it down. At the bottom of the area, you learn that the professor died years ago, and you've been talking to an AI-powered robot fashioned after the professor, who wants the machine shut down before it hurts anybody. Before we can, however, the time machine's programming forces the AI to fight us, and we learn that the original professor would literally risk the world's safety just to continue her experiment, and continue the machine's existance. It's a -very- good, extremely climactic battle, and the song absolutely drives it home.
My personal favorite part is that you can hear Undertale themes peek through during the final boss theme, lmao.

The treasures are actually based on Chinese folklore of the four directions. Dragon, Phoenix, Quinlan, and tiger. The animals represent the mystical world and the real world. Pokémon used a snail because it’s a native species located in Spain but they didn’t want to use another dragon as they had a lot of them this time around. Most of the Pokémon in scarlet and violet are based on Spanish species just with their own flair. The entire game is based in Spain although the name was changed for copyright reasons.

The Elite Four theme trumpet riff I swear is from Final Fantasy 4. It's the exact same riff.
Had to skip the first track since the Treasures of Ruin are about the only thing I haven't done in this game yet but I do know their story---you track down these creatures that had once destroyed the region, because your history teacher (who is totally a supervillain but the game never does anything with this) told you to.

Penny is a great character even if her battle is over too fast. But that's also sort of the point. She's not cut out for the role she's put herself into and is well aware of this.
"Sounds like crystals!" well yes there's a very good reason for that. Crystals play a huge role in the final area, and both the boss and the machine they're on are powered by them. It would have been great if you could have experienced this without spoilers though because the final area is a *massive* gutpunch. "Please...defeat me" is only scratching the surface of how tragic these two are.
God ikr I want to be able to play as a character my age. It's even an all-ages school! But you make an adult friends with teenagers, people will call it "suspicious" as if platonic friendships between age groups is somehow impossible.
Oh also, regarding Penny, I know everyone's told you she's a girl by now, but funny thing is her uncle and father (who don't appear in this game but were in an earlier one) both have very distinctly feminine names.
Area zero Pokémon are based entirely on futuristic or prehistoric creatures. It’s believed that they actually came through a time portal. These Pokémon lose their original modern typings and gain two new ones. They are seriously strong and are tough to catch unless you are prepared for a fight. It’s a lot better than convergent Pokémon which are Pokémon that might look similar but don’t have the same biome and evolved totally differently. Like whooper that dropped its ground typing to adapt to a dry acidic environment gaining poison type and changing evolution completely to become Clodsire and gaining the ability poison point which poisons on physical contact from the own tempo ability or the unaware ability which ignore certain types of damage. Frogs and toads do this a lot like the cane toad in Australia which used to lay eggs now they evolved to give birth to lots of live young all in the span of a few years. Rainforest frogs have quickly evolved to use as little water as possible to lay eggs and develop fast which the average pond frog needs lots of time and water to survive yet they are still frogs but a distinct species that evolved differently to suit rainforest needs.

Those crystal transformations are called Terastalization! The region of Paldea possesses a unique form of energy deep below the earth called Terastal energy. They've harnessed the power using a device called a Tera Orb, which they can use to Terastalize their Pokemon. It's a thing that you can only use once per battle but any Pokemon is able to use it. Using it causes the Pokemon to transform into their Tera type, which is sort of complicated to explain but try to imagine it this way: so Charizard is normally a Fire/Flying type, so most Charizards will have one of those 2 as their Tera type. Let's pretend we have a Charizard with a Flying Tera type. When it Terastalizes, it keeps the boost to fire moves that its typing gives and its flying type moves become even stronger, but on defense tho it's no longer weak to water, it's only a flying type now until the end of the battle. Now it's also possible to find a Pokemon with a rare Tera type, a type that isn't one of its original types. For instance, a Charizard with a Steel Tera type. If that Charizard were to Terastalize, it would keep its boosts to flying and fire type moves in addition to gaining a boost to steel type moves, but defensively it would become purely a steel type. Instead of being weak to water rock and electric, it would be weak to ground fire and fighting. You can also have a Pokemon change their Tera type to a rare one with a special process which isn't too hard to do, you just have to go to this one person that can do it for you and bring specific materials. It's a really fun mechanic that allows you to power up your moves or give your Pokemon the upper hand against a Pokemon who would normally have the advantage. The type that it changes to is visualized with a crystal crown. For instance the fire crown is a chandelier, the grass crown is a flower and the water crown is a fountain. It's sort of a simple mechanic once you understand it and can be a little underwhelming compared to Mega evolution but it's still very strong and the fact that any Pokemon can use it makes for so many possibilities, and in my opinion I think the crowns look really cool.
You’ve got to hear the Team Star and Area Zero themes! Toby Fox did good on the final boss theme and a couple others in the game. This game as touted as having the best story next to like Pokémon gold/silver… even with all the bugs and glitches that happened. It’s a darker Pokémon game…

The most frustrating part of the Elite Four music for me was the fact that there was a memory leak problem at the game's launch, and this made it so that only the very first part was played throughout all of the fights. I kinda blasted through the entire Victory Road storyline and only in about a month did I find out that the bug prevented me from listening to one hell of a banger. First impression was pretty much ruined by that time
Anyways if you do this again I would do the area zero theme. I honestly prefer it to all the battle themes; definitely the best zone music dropped by game freak (because toby did it)
Clarification:
Toby didn't compose them, he helped with some, and gave ideas or inspiration to some of them, but he was basically on the sideline giving supervision while the actual pokemon composition team worked
That help must’ve been pretty involved because Area Zero has his fingerprints all over it.
