I hope you can check out the Area Zero theme from Scarlet and Violet, which was also composed by Toby Fox. Not even the battle theme, just the location theme. It conveys to you that you are in a completely alien world, and this place should not even exist.

Toby Fox had a hand in several Scarlet and Violet songs, but this one (along with a few others) made it so obvious that he composed it in it's entirety. Everything was just so Undertale and Deltarune. But what really tipped me off as "Oh yeah, this is *definitely* Toby" was the interlude, break, and the short pause with the guitars that signaled the start of the coda. It was just so Hopes and Dreams/Save The World/Last Goodbye that I had no choice but to find it fucking incredible. Whenever I hear that one guitar soundfont (that I call the Hopes and Dreams' Guitar) I automatically am reminded of Toby.
What reminded me was how it feels a lot like a sister track to Core from Undertale in the instrumentation, which is a good thing for me since I freakin' love both songs.
easiest way to recognize a toby fox track is the excellent use of repeating motifs, he knows just how long to make each repeating section so its impactful but not annoying
@@JessieIsRawr Very true, no one does leitmotifs quite like Toby, but I can tell just from the sound. The style of song might be tweaked for certain circumstances, but it always manages to have that Toby Fox sound.
All of the music in this final segment of Scarlet/Violet are some of my favorite tracks in the entire franchise. I will paste a segment from Toby's newsletter about his contribution to the Scarlet/Violet Soundtrack. "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have released! I had the honor of making a few songs for the game: "Tera Raid Battles", the "Academy Ace Tournament", and of course, "Battle! Zero Lab". I also composed "Area Zero", which was re-arranged by my friend Go Ichinose. I also composed a majestic theme melody for the song "Academy". Surprisingly, this ended up used as a field theme for the whole game! Though, all songs using the melody were made by other amazing composers. (I love the soft piano version that plays at night.) Anyhow, that's all I did!"
With each itteration of pokemon we get closer and closer to the lore of the gods and the music reflects that. Won't get into the specifics, but this fight is the culmination of three different story arcs that lead into one of the wildest endgame sequences in Pokemon history. A lot of people are divided on the quality of Scarlet/Violet as a whole, but it seems like most agree that they really enjoyed the ending and all of its payoffs. That melodic synthesizer is a favorite of mine from the theme, too. It almost feels like it's washing you in this refreshing, cool blanket, and it really sets the atmosphere for the final fight well. The rest of the theme is tense and makes you feel like you need to win the battle at all costs, but its that cool aura that keeps you calm, almost encouraging you to keep your wits about you and keep on going. As for Toby Fox, he composed this theme, along with what I believe to be... three or four other songs from the game? Toby Fox has been popular for a while now, even putting aside his Undertale stuff. He composed music for the last generation of Pokemon games too (Pokemon Sword/Shield), though in that case, it was one theme in the postgame. It seems like Game Freak struck a good working relationship with him, because he returned to make the music that really contributed to people's enjoyment of Scarlet/Violet's finale. That's not to say that his work is the only great music in Scarlet/Violet, though. For example, Toby Fox was responsible for the endgame music, but Teruo Taniguchi was responsible for the Team Star themes, all of which are amazing in their own right. By the way, I'm one of those millennials who stuck with Pokemon from way back when. Been around since Gen 2, and for whatever reason, my memory when it comes to Pokemon (the species, the towns, characters, etc.) is unusually sharp, even when my memory is otherwise average. Also Jesse, this song is great and all, but my favorite part of this video is where you mentioned the first Mortal Kombat movie, and the Reptile fight. That really made me smile ✌😎
Can totally relate. While the story and writing before Area Zero was clearly addressed to infants, the Area Zero part with the teaming up the protagonists, the music the creepy boss fight and the story telling was so great that I actually started to want to see even more of this kind of game.
The circumstances surrounding this battle and a major character's connection to your opponent are honestly really tragic, which is why there's a hint of sadness in the theme
I never took Pokemon's story seriously, but this particular story line with THIS epic banger just hit me right in the feels. I'm pretty sure there are many people who cry listening to this track. The music pieces for Area Zero are very unique because unlike all other Pokemon music it isn't just random battle music that you can slap them onto anything, but made specifically for these particular instances/battles.
Situation dire, story tragic, and a hopeful track to save world....yep thats a toby fox track. All jokes aside this genuinely became one of my top favorite tracks in the franchise the moment I heard it in game. Such a good track for an absolutely wild endgame final boss.
IIRC, toby fox did quite a bit of music for this game. like, I think he did the leitmotif for the main overworld music and a couple battle themes. this is actually the third gamefreak game he's composed for IIRC. he was a guest composer for sword and shield doing only one postgame theme, he was then the main (or maybe only) composer for little town hero (smaller gamefreak project nobody cared about) and then he did stuff for scarlet and violet. honestly really cool that toby fox seems to be becoming a mainstay for pokemon music.
the funny thing is pretty much all of tobys themes in scarlet and violet have a leitmotif you can hear parts of area zero and the tera battle in sada/turos battle theme which just screams toby fox xD
@@keoplays167 Oh my god I never noticed the tera raid theme is in this but you're totally right Damn you Toby Fox, stop hiding leitmotifs in all of your music like the world's coolest scavenger hunt
the fact that in the text box of Sada/Turo stands Paradise protection protocol for 1 second then switched to Sada/Turo wants to ballte. That makes it really scary 😨
This part of the game was amazing and almost seemed like a different game. The whole Area Zero portion felt like I was playing something else and even felt like maybe that part had a different game story director.
God the ride that is Scarlet/Violet is so incredibly wild. I was not at all expecting half the stuff that went on in the story, nor was I expecting the finale to culminate in a Nier-ass looking area complete with music that sounds like Keichi Okabe wrote it (it wasn't Okabe for the record, it was Toby Fox and Go Ichinose iirc but it sounds extremely like what Okabe did with Nier). Sun/Moon will always be my favorite in the series but... damn if Scarlet/Violet didn't make a compelling argument for the spot.
This theme is dope, I heard it when I gave the ost a listen and this is perfect in context which I don't know if I should spoil. Love the overall feeling of the song.
this song and the entire finale of this game blew every expectation I had out of the water, it is absolutely wild to me that this is from a Pokemon game
Whenever it may be, one of the themes you want to check out is the Area Zero theme from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. It’s the game’s last major area before the climax. An area within the game you literally run circles around before finding a reason to dive in. Once you do, it’s magical, foreboding, and powerful. I can’t suggest it enough.
Toby Fox is an Indie Developer who was known for making music for a webcomic called Homestuck, which was incredibly popular in the early 2010s. During its runtime, Toby made a demo for Undertale and made a kickstarter for the game which ended up massively breaking the goal. In 2015 Toby Fox released Undertale to the world, which completely blew up from the Homestuck community and invaded just about every part of RUclips and Tumblr. It was a kind of success that Toby really wasn't prepared for that kind of happened overnight. He took some time but he eventually embraced that success, using it as a means of growing connections and getting his OC into Super Smash Bros after beating Sakurai, the producer of Smash Bros, in a match. He ended up working with GameFreak on Sword and Shield (or more prominently, Scarlet and Violet) afterwards.
I adore malevolent music like this; knowing the story behind it makes the insanity of it all hit that much harder. Everything was fucked long before your character showed up, and its a whole deal worse than you realise. Heaven or Hell.
It's crazy how Toby Fox started making weird hackroms for EarthBound, to making an indie with a mega blow on popularity to the point that he makes music with Game Freak. That's wild.
While I'm not a big fan of the last 2 pokemon generations as games, the music is still phenomenal as always. Also that guitar sound at 3:12 is as Undertale-y as it gets lmao. Didn't even know Toby Fox was involved when I first played but that part instantly reminded me of Undertale And 15:12 Undertale is one the most successful Indie game of all time
Toby Fox was indeed "not that big of a deal" and Undertale was indeed a full-on indie creation! But from how good and popular the game turned out, Nintendo found Toby Fox as well, and they brought Sans into Smash, alongside a remix of Megalovania. After that, they had him write one song for Pokémon Sword/Shield, and now a bigger part of the soundtrack of Scarlet/Violet. It's really incredible (and amazing!)
Although this is far from my favourite battle theme in this game, I really appreciate what it does for the battle's atmosphere. The opening notes start after the character you're fighting catches a master ball in their hand, and initiates a battle using Pokémon that are never seen before that point, and are very unusual, with it even being challenging to guess their typings. The entire ending sequence of the game has incredible atmosphere, with some very mysterious songs that are nothing like what's heard in the rest of the franchise, and a constant otherworldly vibe hanging over everything, particularly with the "Paradox Pokémon" you're encountering throughout.
Scarlet and Violet were pretty hit or miss overall, but everything involving Area Zero is *perfect,* there’s just no other way to describe it. It feels otherworldly like the Distortion World, the stakes are high like with Team Flare, the visuals are superb and the last boss is a hell of a twist like in Legends Arceus, the final battle is difficult as fuck like in Colosseum, the music fucking *slays* like in BW/B2W2 (and the rest of the series tbf) It just combines the absolute best aspects of every high Pokémon’s had over the years and it works so perfectly well as a sequence
This song along with Area Zero theme is some of the best tracks they made in awhile for pokemon. One thing they nailed this time in the recent games is the music for sure.
Which makes sense: As the machine was literally a guideway point for paradox pokemon to travel from various points throughout time to the modern era. This machine has the capabilites of bringing even the ancient legendaries themselves into a period which they shouldn't exist at, and that would've caused the entire world to be thrown into disarray. Sada/turo aren't just fighting for kicks, they have full intentions of killing you here and now as their program dictates them to protect their system at any cost.
@@zomboids2100 Was going to say "it's the program inside them that wants to kill you" but then like...the program is sort of implied to be the lingering malice of the human professor, desperate to protect their work at any cost, even if it means their beloved son. The AI didn't want to fight...but the professors absolutely did.
Toby has this beautiful way of playing with Light and Darkness in his music. This song for example is very bright and triumphant, but there's a base of urgency and darkness as well. I feel like it also encapsulates a sort of primal vs futuristic sound to represent Sada and Turo. I'm no music expert and I'm sure someone can word this better than I can lol
Toby Fox came up with a few motifs for this game that the other composers completely ran with and he was shocked. He used them in this song, but he didnt expect others to use them too
I love the very beginning and some parts in the middle embodies how in awe some people are while fighting this boss I personally think as a twist final battle in Pokémon they were the best
Toby Fox composed the track, though Go Ichinose probably did some touching up. But Toby did the majority of this track, and a couple others. I requested the Area Zero and Area Zero Battle themes a little while ago, very excited for you to get to them now. They blew me away when I first heard them, and Ive been jamming to the Battle theme ever since.
The best way I can describe this track is as such: Controlled Chaos. It’s all over the place, but with a sense of purpose to it still. And it’s heavy enough that it still gives me flashbacks to my first run of this game, woefully underprepared for this fight. I went in about 5 or 6 levels down from where I should’ve been… I chugged 5 max revives just to get through
The fact that this theme uses the basic FL Studio Kick and Snare (as a total beginner would) baffled me a bit, not necessarily in bad way but.. I´ve been there you know..
Describing this somg as representing the timeline/evolution of Pokemon's development is very fitting bcs Scarlet and Violet's story theme is time travel w/focus on the past and future respectively
Your comment on feeling like the song is a mix of old and new era of music is not wrong. Sada (Pasada = past in spanish) and Turo (Futuro = future in spanish) represent past and future in the game respectively, Sada looking like a cavewoman and Turo looking like an android. Your battle with them is pretty much a clash of time as her/his time machine is going off in the background as they use it to bring pokemon from different eras into the current world (depending on the version of the game you have it'll be future pokemon or past pokemon, robotic and prehistoric) for you to battle until you win and shutdown the time machine.
Definitely consider reacting to pennys theme of the same game it goes insanely hard almost lost that fight cause I was to focused on the music rather than the battle lol
The Pokémon these are insane this gen they’re so good! My favorite has to be the ruinous legendary theme. The quartet are based off the 4 agents of destruction in ancient Chinese mythos and you feel the impending doom
Would definitely love to see you react to some of the champion themes. Firered/leafgreen for the most crazy GBA music you've ever heard, or Cynthia's piano them and champion theme for crazy intensity. Also a lot of the elite four music is really good too.
It's interesting that you mention nostalgic elements of this track, as this game's plot revolves around time travel. Just goes to show how incredibly Toby Fox is able to weave narrative into his compositions.
Toby Fox made some of the melodies for the game but the actual compositions of the tracks he worked on were made by other composers, and many of the melodies were remixed into multiple tracks. He gets a lot of the credit for this OST (deservedly so) but it was a lot more of a collaborative effort that is largely not discussed, taking away from the other composers who put in great work on this game.
? ... At the beginning I could swear I was actually listening to the Seymour fight from Final Fantasy X. Also it's amazing how far the Pokémon game music has come. Say what you will about this pair of games, but the music sounds great.

I always thought that the way this song is structured reminds me of Entrusting this world to idols ~ Idolatrize world from Touhou 17. Which doesn't surprise me considering Touhou is a big inspiration for Toby Fox
There are SO many leitmotifs fron the game wound into this that I wish you had listened to others beforehand. Like with Volo's theme, you missed out on a LOT of symbolism. You should play this game! A lot of really good music by many different composers, a fun region to explore, great characters and story (Famitsu magazine gave it Best Scenario and Best Character for Arven), and some solid mons to find. But! If you want to play it, *do not read spoilers*. Go into it as fresh as you can for maximum impact. However! I will give some thoughts below that will by necessity contain spoilers even though I'll be vague. The ending of this game is *intense*. I've followed this series from the beginning, and yeah the story has gotten to me a few times (in particular when someone leaves at the end of SM and when someone...hm let's say "false accusation" to avoid spoilers in PLA), but the ending of this game has lived in my brain since i beat it in February. I can't get it out of my head. The character you meet is so much more than they appear, and they deserved so much better than they got. It's an utterly tragic ending and i just...want to know that character is ok. They don't even have to come back. I just want to know that they're safe and could make their dream come true. I wanted so badly to intervene. We find things out about someone we never meet, but who's influenced our journey from the beginning, and it leaves us with conflicting emotions for them that are quite complicated. And for the character we do meet, well...I can't get them out of my head. We don't know them for long but we're left with an utterly melancholic feeling for them...
tbh even if i didnt know, i probably would have guessed that this was a toby fox track regardless lol. it just feels so much like some of his homestuck music that when you hear it you go "toby?"

This song hits differently with context
You know shit gets real when he puts the sunglasses on
Situation dire, story tragic, and a hopeful track to save world....yep thats a toby fox track.
The crazy thing about what you said about the song sounding like it's from 2 different times is that you fight at a time machine...
the funny thing is pretty much all of tobys themes in scarlet and violet have a leitmotif you can hear parts of area zero and the tera battle in sada/turos battle theme which just screams toby fox xD
@@keoplays167 Oh my god I never noticed the tera raid theme is in this but you're totally right
Damn you Toby Fox, stop hiding leitmotifs in all of your music like the world's coolest scavenger hunt
the fact that in the text box of Sada/Turo stands Paradise protection protocol for 1 second then switched to Sada/Turo wants to ballte. That makes it really scary 😨
Yeah great final boss music. Probably the most intense finale for a Pokemon game. Hope they bring in Toby more in the future.
It was like Nier in another regard too if you get my drift
This theme is dope, I heard it when I gave the ost a listen and this is perfect in context which I don't know if I should spoil. Love the overall feeling of the song.
this song and the entire finale of this game blew every expectation I had out of the water, it is absolutely wild to me that this is from a Pokemon game
pokemon always remembers their roots when creating music
Whenever it may be, one of the themes you want to check out is the Area Zero theme from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. It’s the game’s last major area before the climax. An area within the game you literally run circles around before finding a reason to dive in.
Once you do, it’s magical, foreboding, and powerful.
I can’t suggest it enough.
Ethereal, disturbing music for an ethereal, disturbing place
First of, the fella in your avatar is adorable! Second, you might have seen it already, but he uploaded a reaction to it eight days ago!
Didn't even know Toby Fox was involved when I first played but that part instantly reminded me of Undertale
And 15:12 Undertale is one the most successful Indie game of all time
Yeah, when I first heard that I instantly knew Toby composed this track.
@@komi___Heck, as soon as I stepped into Area Zero I knew the whole thing had Toby Fox’s fingerprints all over it
Toby Fox was indeed "not that big of a deal" and Undertale was indeed a full-on indie creation!
He worked for Game Freak before that too, doing music for Little Town Story
Pokémon music never misses
Scarlet and Violet were pretty hit or miss overall, but everything involving Area Zero is *perfect,* there’s just no other way to describe it. It feels otherworldly like the Distortion World, the stakes are high like with Team Flare, the visuals are superb and the last boss is a hell of a twist like in Legends Arceus, the final battle is difficult as fuck like in Colosseum, the music fucking *slays* like in BW/B2W2 (and the rest of the series tbf)
It just combines the absolute best aspects of every high Pokémon’s had over the years and it works so perfectly well as a sequence
This song along with Area Zero theme is some of the best tracks they made in awhile for pokemon. One thing they nailed this time in the recent games is the music for sure.
This doesn’t feel like I’m battling with Pokémon it feels like I’m challenging GODS
I thought it was playing Battle With Seymour for a sec, which is always a good comparison
I found this song out a few days ago and was thinking, "maybe Jesse would like this".
Lo and behold, it was exactly as I imagined.
One of the BEST FUCKING OST of the last 10 years!
The whole Scarlet/Violet soundtrack is excellent, probably the best part of the game
Have to get the shades out for it, love it
This is in my top 5 tracks in all of Pokemon, I love S/V's leitmotifs
The best way I can describe this track is as such: Controlled Chaos. It’s all over the place, but with a sense of purpose to it still. And it’s heavy enough that it still gives me flashbacks to my first run of this game, woefully underprepared for this fight. I went in about 5 or 6 levels down from where I should’ve been… I chugged 5 max revives just to get through
Section this is in it's already pretty ephemeral so the opening fits and then it just goes off hard as hell
Toby Fox the GOAT making some of the best Pokemon music for Scarlet & Violet.
And the gamefreak composers:)
More like, the usual Gamefreak greats, with support from Toby Fox. An excellent team-up either way.
@@PhotonSieveYess, agreed! ^^
@@blasty5935Yess X3
The fact that this theme uses the basic FL Studio Kick and Snare (as a total beginner would) baffled me a bit, not necessarily in bad way but.. I´ve been there you know..
It feels very Toby Fox to make a masterpiece using basic FL studio options.
Watching this as a huge Pokemon fan since Red and Blue
This does fill me with Determination
It's funny how this is so different yet so Pokemon
Describing this somg as representing the timeline/evolution of Pokemon's development is very fitting bcs Scarlet and Violet's story theme is time travel w/focus on the past and future respectively
This song has gave me a "Save the World" vibe
Id love to hear you react to the main Area Zero theme, the overworld one
The Pokémon these are insane this gen they’re so good! My favorite has to be the ruinous legendary theme. The quartet are based off the 4 agents of destruction in ancient Chinese mythos and you feel the impending doom
Would definitely love to see you react to some of the champion themes. Firered/leafgreen for the most crazy GBA music you've ever heard, or Cynthia's piano them and champion theme for crazy intensity. Also a lot of the elite four music is really good too.
It's interesting that you mention nostalgic elements of this track, as this game's plot revolves around time travel. Just goes to show how incredibly Toby Fox is able to weave narrative into his compositions.
what a finale this was
I see that Alpha, the Divine Beginning recommended at the end of the music video. That'll be fun when you eventually get to it
Toby Fox made some of the melodies for the game but the actual compositions of the tracks he worked on were made by other composers, and many of the melodies were remixed into multiple tracks. He gets a lot of the credit for this OST (deservedly so) but it was a lot more of a collaborative effort that is largely not discussed, taking away from the other composers who put in great work on this game.
Fyi the bases of this game is past and future..so the names of the professors are pa(sada) fu(turo)
That makes so much sense, especially since it's literally based on spain
? ... At the beginning I could swear I was actually listening to the Seymour fight from Final Fantasy X. Also it's amazing how far the Pokémon game music has come. Say what you will about this pair of games, but the music sounds great.
Most epic Pokémon track ever...
Yes, I think the Pokemon fanbase may be the biggest and loudest because of the sheer multitude
Hundreds of millions active on the internet, you're bound to get strong opinions on everything related to Pokemon!
No one is gonna see this but I’m happy he used the battle hub theme from street fighter😊 0:00
Nah I think you were spot on; you can probably smell Pokemon fans through the screen lol
..."Please defeat me"
God I wish we could have helped them more. Even if they're safe, they're going to be lonely.
Hi im new here love ur videos btw! Rarely seeing ppl react vid games music soundtrack ur so damn cool bro 💖
I know a lot of people suggest pokemon music, but here are some of my favourite music pieces. I hope you'll react to some of them:
•Elite four from BW
•Champion Iris from B2W2
•Colress from B2W2
•Zinnia from ORAS
•Deoxys from ORAS
•Guzma from SM
•Elite four from SM
•Champion battle from SM
•Elite four from SV
•Legendary Quartet Battle Music from SV
I had to really hold it in, bc the music from pokemon is the absolute goat, but I still hope you'll check some of them out :)
3:54 I love this part so much
Did anyone else notice the battle hub theme from sf6 before the music started?
Yeah hes been using it for a while and some tekken music too
I always thought that the way this song is structured reminds me of Entrusting this world to idols ~ Idolatrize world from Touhou 17. Which doesn't surprise me considering Touhou is a big inspiration for Toby Fox
Toby Fox has composed for multiple games made by Game Freak.
Make i make a pokemon request? The 3 giratina themes from the 3 games. I would only suggest one but seeing the progression through them is amazing
If it wasn't obvious, this is the game's final boss theme.
(Technically there's one more part after this but it's just a gimmick setpiece phase)
Great Video & Yea The Songs Are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We just need a Honkai Star Rail ost reaction and I would be completely happy
This beat my previously fav pokemon theme
This theme (and Area Zero in general) really reminds me of Falcom music and games.
Love it great stuff bro love the POKEMAN
My Favourite Theme
When the leitmotif hits
It's not the first time Alpha the Divine Beginning and End is suggested to you from RUclips (in the screencapture). I HIGHLY suggest that music.
tbh even if i didnt know, i probably would have guessed that this was a toby fox track regardless lol. it just feels so much like some of his homestuck music that when you hear it you go "toby?"
I can't wait for the day he reacts to pennys tgeme or the ruin quartett these are one of my personal favorites and go sooo hard ^^
You should react to more of Toby Fox's music
Hes an amazing composer with amazing songs. Be it from undertale, deltarune, or any other work he has been in, i believe you will enjoy his work.
ultrakill tenebre rosso sangue, it will be a playlist add easily, you will wonder why you have never heard it I promise (unless you have heard it lol
(dont know id you still read these) just wondering if you could listen to this sound track with lyrics made by someone on RUclips (forgot who they are)
Oh yeah, Pokemon people...
I understand.
