Thanks for the comments.....this tape came with an old 3/4" UMATIC VCR I bought. Seems to be a dub from CBC Halifax of this group specifically from the CBC show "The Fame Game" which from what I can figure out was a national show in the fall of 1984, much like today's "The Voice" or "American/Canadian Idol" where the winner gets a recording contract.
The host actually seems to be Doug Barron, not Jake Edwards for the Maritime portion of the show, which had different hosts for regions across the country. Doug and Jake both worked together during the early days of Q104, around the time this show was taped. Doug is now associated with CBC Radio's Weekend Mornings, taking over the reins from the late Stan Carew.
Who does lead vocal? better yet.....what this song officially ever released?

The lost tape: I am the bass player in the band and I had custody of the 3/4" tape. Years ago I left the tape with a friend in the advertising industry who had a 3/4' machine. Obviously, you bought his machine The lead singer is Wayne Hunt, Glenn Simmons sang lead and played lead guitar, and Dave Burton sang and played drums. The Business recorded a 45 prior to this, but "Shine" wasn't on it. This version of "Shine" is from the February, 1984 Fame Game semi-finals in Halifax. Thanks for posting it.

+Ian Perry Yeah, That was John Brennan you likely left it with. That's who I bought the machine from when he had his "Lone Wolf Agency" in Halifax. He put an ad in the bargain hunter looking to sell it and I needed a machine to play a 3/4" tape I had. this was 20 years ago. My guess then is that this was a dub of the performance for the group? Stuff like this I'm not one to erase it. I have too much of a archivist mentality, and have a variety of vintage audio I have saved from various radio stations I've worked with over the years.
I love the song personally. Shame there aren't any masters of that song other then that appears to be here. Given the music of the time, I'm surprised it didn't get radio airplay, if it didn't. Glad to post the video to help you take a peek in your past.
