This is a tutorial video on how to remove and replace the back glass cover on your Samsung Galaxy S7.
Its the same procedure and same glass back cover used for all carrier models.

heat gun on low to open the phone. After you open the phone it will no longer be waterproof.Buy a lifeproof case. They are waterproof

Hold the power button and the volume down button for 10 seconds if you need a soft reboot.
I have two of these to do for my boss. The glue is super strong and the suction cup supplied with the battery did not work even with heat. We used a heat gun on the low setting and also used the heat bead of our 3D printer to warm the phone. We ended up ordering the suction cup pliers tool. In the mean time, I tried starting at the top of the phone instead of the bottom and was finally able to get into it using a razor blade, but even with heat and gentle pressure using the plastic pic tools, the back glass cracked when I reached to corner. I think more heat would have helped, but I didn't want to overdo it. The first phone is done except for the new back glass. We'll wait for the suction cup pliers to arrive before doing the second one.
Is it pretty easy to replace the back glass?
I get the distinct impression that they don't really want you to take the battery out... hmm

phones getting more and more expensive and having less and less features things like removable batteries and headphone jacks and even IR ports were handy but don't see them anymore

My cellphone got repaired and after that, I dropped it in a river by accident, like 5 seconds, and the screen came blue and green, it was flashing too.. So yeah, its breaking the water resistant thing. :/

Water resistant doesn't matter much when your screen is heavily cracked and you want to keep your phone. Besides, it's not like water resistance is needed just don't be stupid; throwing it around water and whatnot. Simple as this: take care of your phone and don't take your phone out if it's a risk.

At what point did you guys feel that this might not be a good idea? For me I really started to have my doubts when he said 'all we have to do is give it some heat!' But when he started talking about wedging a prying tool, I knew I wasn't going to be going down this road
true, but its either i try to fix what moved inside my phone myself or save up alot of money to get it working again, something moved inside the phone and i can hear it move if i shake, the phone works completly fine but just the screen is always black

After you removed the back cover, I wonder how you put it back in place. The right hand side of my back cover has come a little. Tried pressing the bit that's coming out with my fingers but that just didn't work. Would like how to fix it on my own since I don't want to send it out for repair.

Does it lose its impermeability when it get opened?
Yes, The glue that is being removed is what makes the phone water resistant. So once the back is taken off it will no longer be water resistant. Unless the back is glued back down properly

Can someone clarify something? There appears, from different videos of the Galaxy S7, to be more than one variant of antenna module (at the top of the phone) under the back glass. However, when ordering a replacement, there only appears to be one variant...
Can anyone shed some light on that?

Don't use a pick as your first entry method, use a playing card, it's thinner.
If there's a tiny crack in the glass it's very fragile and will most likely crack further. Happened to me.

Once I had a small Gap in the corner, I grabbed the cover with needle-nose pliers and slowly tore that piece of crap off of my phone to replace the battery. I let the glass shatter all over, using micro thin glass for a cover is the stupidest idea ever. I didn't even buy a new cover, just stuck it back in my phone case good for another 5 years

What's the purpose of doing this video? I am so glad that I don't have the S7. It's not safe. That's why I am going to stick with my Galaxy S5. It has a plastic cover and it's a whole lot safer than the S6, S7, and S8 (that will be coming out in early 2017). Samsung needs to stop making glass covers and make more plastic covers. Stop making everything from glass all the time.
mkjustmike I know. Mine just broke from a fall which was barely 2 feet from the ground. With plastic, it doesn't even brake from that. I guess it is how they want the style to be. I hope that the S8 will be a better improvement.
the purpose of doing this video is so people can do things like replace things or fix something that happens with water damage because even though they say that the S7 is waterproof they are full of shit
S7 is water-resistant rather than proof. Still sucks tho since even if it is resistant, your sim card or the phone can still be damage.

If you want a new back, do it this way. If you want a new back but still have the water resistant, exchange for a new one.

Ok so you showed us how to remove it but showed is absolutely nothing on how to actually replace it. Is there glue that needs to be reapplied, does it come with glue on the new back, or do you just need to remove the old one and then just press it back on. Is it going to seal properly. So much left unanswered and you didn't explain anything in the assembly process.

The back of cover is permanently shattered and something inside is still pulling/attached, so I’m screwed!

Hmm, just finished replacing the battery on my Galaxy S7. Took me 30 minutes just to get the back off. I think the person I bought this phone from already replaced the battery and added extra glue when they put it back together. It was so difficult to remove the cover that I nearly gave up.
Hey bro, what temperature and how long did you heat the back cover? I have a heating pad and I put it on there at 75-90 degs Celsius for 10-15 mins but it didn't come loose? I think I have the same problem as you.

+Salaman Rasooli The back glass cover is held on by and extremely strong adhesive, unlike the Galaxy S5, where the S5 has a removable back cover it also includes protective dust and water resistant lining that laid around the battery and Sd card. if you pause the video @4:02 you can see that the back of the s7 does not have that trait that the s5 has. leading me to believe that it is sealed together by the adhesive and nothing else. while he stripped the s7 with the guitar picks he broke the seal now allowing water to breach the adhesive barrier that once protected the phone. unless the new back screen comes with the adhesive you need to seal your phone to Ip68 Standard then I doubt it will ever be water resistant again.

You can get back your water resistance capabilities by cleaning off the old adhesives and applying fresh glue, there's these rubberized glues u apply and glue it back close, don't use tape for these water resistance phone because it's not water tight, buy the glue to glue it back together, it dries with a rubbery texture giving it back its water resistance capabilities but u need to apply it evenly all the way around, don't miss any part
Can someone please help me, before i watched this i wanted to put my sim card in this phone and i thought i was supposed to open the back and put it in there, cus it's usually always like that but not with this phone, i opened the back and i couldn't find where to put the sim card so i thought maybe it's under battery, so i took of the battery and nothing was there so i put everything back how it was, and i tired turning it it on but it won't turn on, it won't don't anything, and then i realized that you actually put the sim card on top of the phone, i don't know how to fix this, please someone help me with this, i just got this phone from my friend and i don't want my family to get mad i already mess things up, i really need someone to help me please.
