- In my latest art tutorial, I delved into the possibilities of the Dina Wakley Media Journal, exploring its varied paper surfaces through experimenting. With one page of watercolor paper and the other raw canvas, I embarked on a journey of creativity, applying watercolor on one side and acrylic paints on the other, each with a distinct color palette from The Color Cube. To tie the two contrasting pages together, I adorned them both with a shimmering touch of gold using a Joggles stencil. Great colors! I like the watercolor on one page and acrylics on the other page in the same palette, then use the stencil to tie them together. I really love the texture the canvas gives the piece. Here’s to another great paint day.🥂

I finally got a Color Cube yesterday! You seem to use the #2 set a lot, so I chose to buy that one. I immediately went to my craft room, pulled out a palette card, put one of your videos on and painted my first abstract. I chose to go small so I didn’t feel pressure or get defeated and I had a blast. Thx for your encouraging videos! I also ordered one of your recommended quill brushes and the Art Nouveau Gansai Tambi watercolor set. I can’t wait for them to come to try those out. I just love the colors in that set.

Love this! I am going to be pulling out my bowl scraper now! Rarely I will fill a bucket with water and Murthy’s oil soap and clean stencils. Rarely. Also, spread paint on your cardboard with a brayer so the paint is only on the raised areas. That way, your cardboard will last longer.

“I like big quills and I cannot lie!”😊 I’ve noticed since you started working in the Wakley journal you’re more likely to fill the page, I feel like your smaller pieces have more white space.
It has been fun working on the larger scale for a while! I live flipping through the finished pages 😁
Love this. Re: corrugated cardboard with watercolours. Try using it with acrylics first - once dry, it hardens up.

It is so exciting to see you work in this journal. I will keep an eye out for something similar or do my own as you suggested. You answered a lot of my questions and always give us options. I love seeing the different golds. This journal is going to be the neatest coffee table book.

You've gotten me excited about the Mungyo oil pastels and while it was shopping, I discovered that they also have some water soluble sets...so I bought them 😮 You're probably already aware of them but I thought I'd mention them just in case you weren't. ❤

I have a question, since I've never used Cold Wax before,
could you use the cold wax with watercolors?? I know
you can use the cold wax with Acrylics. I just love the wax
look over a painting with layers of it on there, it adds so
much more interest, and I'm thinking it would be great with watercolors. Thank you Denise for your courageous watercolor and acrylic abstracts, so love them.❤
I only use the cold wax with the Oil Paint. I've only used the cold wax with other mediums as a top clear protective coat. 😊
