Below is the link to another one of my e38 videos, The cost of ownership/maintenance of a neglected E38, where I discuss the reality of owning an e38 that was not maintained well.

E38s are amazing very reliable car. I have had mine for 4 years an its amazing. But YES everything he said in regards to issues are 100 percent true but definitely doable if you have the right mentality

Good video man, but you forgot to mention ABS module failure is very common on E38, and of course the the front cup holder haha.

Never had the ABS failure, but I think every e38 has broken cup holders lol.

Timing chains and guides are really fair for maintaining this gorgeous engine - much better than doing rod bearings like on some of the M cars 😳
This video brings back memories of my first BMW - a 2000 e46 - had to fix the cooling system, window regulators, headliner, few rust spots and broken clips on the dash trim. Despite all of that I absolutely loved it and it drove like a dream!
Thanks for your video on this beautiful car and I’m glad I found your channel! I’m on my 7th BMW and I’d never drive anything else!
    Take care and God bless!

      Thanks for the kind words!
I love the e38 platform, and it was always a dream of mine to own one. But I quickly realized that if I was going to be forced to maintain one, I’d rather pay the minor extra difference and get an M car🤷‍♂️
BMW’s are definitely an addiction. The e38 was my fourth, and I’ll be getting number 5 this coming year. Easily the best car community as well.

@@TheEuroLife. Absolutely agree - BMW community is awesome 👌🏻 I was almost considering an Audi at one stage - needless to say that “community” is like a clan of accountants comparing calculators 😑😑😑😑
Excited to see what your next BMW will be! Please keep us posted on your channel 😎

Nice video, I had a 2000 540i (among other BMWs over time) and after watching this and looking at your earlier E38 ownership video there was a strong sense of déjà vu. What I've learned from my experience is absolutely, positively no more BMW V8s for me and I prefer obd1 to obd2. The models that I finally went with are a '89 325i coupe for weekends/fun and a '95 525i as my daily, although I did swap out the M50 rotating assembly with that of the M54 3.0 so I have the reliability and easy inexpensive maintenance of the M50 but with 3 liters.

The M62 is such an amazing engine when everything works right. However, it can easily break your wallet and your spirit. Both the M20 and M54 are excellent engines. Keep them stock or boost them, doesn’t matter.
      Thanks for watching the channel!

A vintage car like this is not meant to be a daily driver. I view it as a car that to appreciate and work on yourself as a hobby. If you’re not willing to use some elbow grease on any classic car then you should not consider owning one. The bottom line is you can’t do all the work yourself like timing chain guides, but have it’s very satisfying to bring the interior as well as the exterior back to OEM standards.

Plenty of people daily drive these cars. Even more daily e30’s. It’s not for the faint of heart or those who don’t turn wrenches. E38’s are still exceptionally expensive to have work done to them.

It’s a beautiful comfortable find to drive machine. It’s a shame the reliability is so damn poor. I had a 2001 mondep that was one owner and all repairs and services were dealer stamped. I bought the car and I’m four years easily spent what I paid for it just keeping it going. Had everything fixed and serviced at the dealer before I sold it. Guy was super happy. The car was like showroom near still. Three months later he had it up for sale for a quarter what he paid for it cause it had broken down three time in his short ownership. This is a horrible horrible car.
