Yes, Charlie at Chadwick model railway also had the same problem and they came out with the line? well no one else has had this problem, so you did the right thing by getting on to Accurascale. they need to know when things go wrong, its in all our interests to let them know about such things, cheers.
I have just returned from a week’s holiday in Yorkshire and had my breakfast watching this video. There is something really delightful about watching your layout and listening to your “waffling on”. It has been a great start to my day. You have done some fabulous work with weathering those wagons, they do look great. Having created this amazing layout with all the detail I am not sure that you can keep saying you are new to railway modelling! Thanks for another top video. Keep up the good work. And please keep that class 66!
Well, this is the first content of yours that I looked at and it was very informative with the problem with Accurascale and all. I glad you found a solution. The weathering is some of the best I have seen, and you have a knack for it. I'm here on your site because Hilton from Properly Chuffed suggested we check you out. Great video, Jersey Bill
I like your layout Dave, doing a good job. Wouldn't have thought you were new to railway modeling. Going to have a do at the weathering my self this winter.Inspired 👍.
I always look forward to seeing a new video from you in my new to watch list. You are my favourite train related channel as your spin on the story is second to none & you really bring the layout to life. It inspires me to get my layout finished so I could think up something along the same lines but probably butcher it.
Got to say glad holidays over, hopefully some more videos soon Dave! Been missing them... Sad it's true anyone else missing our weekly dose of madness?
Hi Dave , yes I still here right to the end. As Charlie at Chadwick Railways said, ' It's your layout ,you do what pleases you. I think they look great. I have watch some video's of full size trains and they have dirty ones with clean ones in trains.
Cheers Gaz, me too it was something that bugged me lots! Finished doing all of the mgr wagons now - only ruined 2 t shirts and a brand new pair of shorts in the process 😬😆
My Accurascale 66 used to go forward six inches when I turned my DCC off so I asked in the club and the general thought was it was the chip. So I took out the Dapol Imperium out and got a Lokpilot from Accurascale programmed for the 66 and it's fine. My Acurascale wagons are a pain in the arse.
Very informative video Dave all I can say thank goodness I don't dabble in DCC but I too has a Accurrascale Class 50 on order and class 57xx looking forward to when they arrive
Sounds as though you were doing an auto calibration of the motor control (back emf). That the procedure from ESU Loksound 5s. Good weathering of those MGRs
Something I bought, think the Rapido APT-E has a description of this in the instructions and the same cure you described, seems it is something those chips do. I have not had it happen to any of my locos though.
Hopefully the EMF reset has sorted them for good. Would make sense for Accurascale to put a similar note in the box as clearly I can’t be the only person to have had this issue 🤷🏻♂️
I'd use a soldering iron for the dents, but also using a clamp and position the soldering iron so the heater is 2mm away from the place you want the dent and turn it on for a short time and then increase the time until you know the best time for the result you want. You would need the wagon underneath so gravity lends a hand. That's if it gets hot enough as well. A heat gun and a bean can lid with the shape of the dent cut into it might work better if not I guess.
Nice Video dave, Stay cool, plenty of water.. As for the Accurascale 31, I can understand. I'm STILL waiting for the 37. I made the decision of not buying another thing until i see it. They said they arrived last month.. but. anyway enough crying from me.. Great vid, weathering is fantasmagorical.. keep cool and we shall await the next installment.
Ah that’s taking ages isn’t it!! You should contact Richard and have it out with him, also mention the colas 37 for me to him as he’s playing hard ball now
Great job on those MGRs…..the photos outside some look real, but others don’t; can’t put my finger on it. Camera angle? Maybe lighting but they look awesome. The grotty one on the back only stands out so much due to the wagons around it being cleaner. From memory I’m sure rakes were basically never altered except when wagons taken out for repair or maintenance, so varied states but to a similar level. Buddy have a wonderful family holiday, recharge your battery and give us something when you get time.
Yeah I know what you mean, from looking at photos a lot look quite the same but I didn’t want to have them all too similar, just so it looks a bit more interesting, plus it was good to experiment different weathering techniques 👍
Your a weathering god Dave ! Them wagons look ace. Your whole layout is amazing, especially as a "newby" to the hobby. I just ordered another Bachmann 37. I had bought a couple of brand new bodies, intending to buy second hand none running chassis to create a couple of none running static units. But at less than £20 (wpc) for brand new sound model why bother. And I can sell the new body. Also you try finding a cheap none running Bachmann. They are as rare as hen's teath. I fully agree with the Bachmann stuff, don’t jump straight in and they can be real bargains like that 47 sound fitted Greyfriars Bobby of mine was like under 230 brand new from memory and is superb! Good to see your excellent use of the WPG as well 👍👍 like you say they generally don’t break so none runners aren’t around. That latest 37 I got was sold to me as used but it looks like it’s come from a collection where it’s never left the box, 5 years old and ran absolutely like a dream straight out of the packet 👌 the only thing that Bachmann need to do is get the speakers on par with the Accurascale/Cavalex (if you’re bothered about the sound) 👍
There are at least 6 class 31s that can be ordered right now on the Accurascale website - at BR blue. I'm getting the NRM special edition. I cancelled my direct Accurascale order.
Heat a knife up with a lighter but not red hot,you can dink the wagons easier than a soldering iron.Whatever you do I’m sure it will look great.Cheers Dave 😊👍🚂
You should be really pleased with your weathering on those wagons ! I will not use those decoders after having lots of issues with the ones I had. All changed to Zimo now which are, in my opinion, far superior.
Yeah I finished the rake yesterday, I might do a few of the lighter ones a bit heavier, I had a go a denting up the top of one which wasn’t as easy as I expected 🤣🤣 so probably leave it as just the one! I’m hoping the ESU decoders work ok now as I’m too tight to replace them!
Hi there well I also have an issue with an Accurasclale class 66 the same one as yours No 763. My loce works fine in both directions but when I swith off the DCC main power the damn sets off at fu;ll speed in reverse until the power is fully discharged. I know there are 4 Stay Alive capacitors on board but I also have one of Accurascale's Deltics no bother at all.
Shame about Accurascale Dave. I had a real jerky 37. Managed to video, Accurascale took along time to fix, But they did. Since that 3 others have been fine, Although my Euro Phoenix sound fitted not very loud after coming back from Acc, So probably not get anymore. Wagons look great BTW. ATB to you.Stuart 👍🏻
Hi Stuart good to see you around again, yeah I’m hoping that the accurascale gremlins have gone now 🤞no doubt they’ve turned the master volume down on your europhoenix due to the speaker issue they suffer from with the ohms thing
Hi Dave. Just to be clear: are those photos at the end of the video your weathered models, or of real full-size HAA/HBA wagons? If it's the former, then wow. Excellent. And thanks for the insight into the YT economics.
@doubleodave They look really good. I grew up in the South Wales valleys where MGR coal trains were a very common sight. Looking at these images brought back memories from my childhood.
Glad the running isssues sorted, drives us mad when it happens, stuff seems to have gone much better since giant lizard did one. Love the weathering and the variation, I like the last one in the rake but they all look good. Side marks are a nice touch. I need to do some running videos while you are away, lure your subscribers to the world of TT:120…. 😂 does make you think though, if you could save the heat for loft in summer and have it back in winter, things would be ‘reet proper’ 👍
I’m gonna try bottling up some of the heat, like you say that would be 👌 You keep your mini model snatching hands off my subscribers 🤣🤣🤣 In all seriousness though yeah I’m glad I seem to have finally sorted the issue, it was bugging me big time!
Interesting Dave I've heard of the motor/back EMF fix... but that's usually for mis matched motors or coreless jobs...not what you were faced with. Shame you cancelled the 31, but it can get to you like that sometimes. Great vid Dave.
Yeah it’s weird as owt, I can only assume the motors are causing the issue? It all seems ok now so happy days. I’d suspect my hardware if any of the other brands acted up which they don’t so who knows. I don’t think I’m going to go the 31 route, I think I’ll get a regional railways 37 for the Bachmann coaches I just bloody love those 37s and certainly don’t have enough of them yet 😁👍
Them MGRs look bostin’ DOD! I’m impressed👍 if you start looking at photos of the real wagons there really is no right or wrong, I haven’t tried adding the horizontal scratch marks on any yet, you know the ones where the doofers rub along them….proper nice work. Here at Colwich I haven’t been in the loft for weeks, every time I go up there I’ve been sweating cobs, so much in fact I’ve been selling them on via the back door to Annie’s cafe, makes for an interesting flavoured bacon and egg sandwich!🤢 I’m with you on the buying locos & then thinking do I really need/want them…. The Accurascale 66s are cracking models, I had the most unglamorous DRS version on pre-order & it really runs/sounds great, then when “Evening Star” became available I had to have one……., now I’m not so sure, yeah it fits my layout, but I’m not the biggest fan of the real things. Probably gonna sell it on now. I think we as modellers are like magpies, something shiny & new comes out and we have to have it! Hahaha mines the same I could sit in an old tin bath up there and fill it myself within the hour 🥵🥵🥵 I’ve had a word with myself about buying stuff that I don’t really want - like you say I gets silly doesn’t it Cheers John B - From Dave C 😎
Due to the conditions of the loft, hot/cold, you may be getting condensation in the locos. You also may be getting track expansion and contraction and corrosion?
The loft never gets cold enough for condensation even in the coldest winter months as all the hot water pipes run under the floor so give off decent heat. The track is all silver nickel, I haven’t noticed any issues with expansion as I did leave decent gaps every now and then for that. It’s just strange how only the Accurascale had the issue, who knows, I think the EMF thing has sorted it though 👍
Hi, interesting story about your decoder issues, although having three locos doing the same thing, sounds more like something else not faulty decoders. I wonder what changed to cause them to do that..............Doesn't matter now though, as you got it sorted.............interesting though..........All the best Dave.
Yes mate absolutely bizarre, strangely none of my Bachmann, Cavalex or Hornby do it . I suspect it’s something with the motors as the reset thing tunes the motor to the decoder 🤷🏻♂️ some kind of black magic at a guess 😆All appears fully sorted now though so I’m happy enough. Cheers pal
I think that the new eco fuel you've been using is causing the issues with your locos, Dave. Because you've been adding leftover stale yorkshire pudding mix to the custard storage tanks to make it go further. It's clogged up your locos custard injectors 😂....cheers James 🙂👍
Accurascale are quick to take your money and very bad at stock control or sorting issues. I had an order for wagons cancelled by them because I ordered a loco at the same time and was told they would all come when the loco was in stock. I got the loco but in the meantime they resold the wagons which were in stock at the time of order and then cancelled my wagon order and refunded the money. I will NEVER buy an accurascale model again they are extremely cavalier in the way they treat their customers
🤣🤣🤣 every single photo it was derailed because wind kept blowing them off to their doom! Wheels run too good! Only way to keep it on the tracks even though off the tracks 🤣🤣🤣 - you and your bloody detail eyes 👍
How standard is your DCC system? Because three different locos, or more accurately decoders, all acting in the same way is suspicious. Do your other ESU decoders work fine with your system, if you have any? Because, IF, it is a unique issue, and IF, your DCC system is not common, it may be something not meshing with the system and the decoders. I am no expert, but it could be some weird issue.
t’s a Z21, I have other brand locos with esu decoders that are completely fine (Bachmann & Cavalex) Z21 has the bus wires connected to the track with nothing else feeding from it to interfere. 👍
I don’t think any of the accurascales have the uncouple mode? I suspect the motors but it’s only a guess. I suppose when they’re competitively priced they’re not gonna have the best of every component in them are they? 🤷🏻♂️ I’m possibly fully wrong but there does seem to be a fair few reports of motor issues, either way hopefully they’re all sorted and last a very long time 👍🤞
Hi Dave. Those wagons look great. I wonder if the jerkiness of your locos could it possibly be due to voltage spikes, I'm no expert. May be a conversation with DCC Concepts and their product DCC-BSS.2 Bus Spike Suppressors. I'm not saying these will fix the issue.
Cheers Steve, I’ll stick a clip up when I do another video it’s all a bit strange. Funny how my other brands with ESU decoders doesn’t do it though, makes me question the quality of the motors in the accurascale stuff 🤷🏻♂️
Cracking job with that weathering on the wagons, I would never have thought you were pretty new to it
Thanks 👍 I enjoyed doing them

Accurascale are quick to take your money and very bad at stock control or sorting issues. I had an order for wagons cancelled by them because I ordered a loco at the same time and was told they would all come when the loco was in stock. I got the loco but in the meantime they resold the wagons which were in stock at the time of order and then cancelled my wagon order and refunded the money. I will NEVER buy an accurascale model again they are extremely cavalier in the way they treat their customers
😦 that’s not good!
They say on the website to not mix preorders with in stock orders.
You've made a brilliant job of weathering those MGR's. Can't work out if you took some of those photos deliberately derailed to wind us up...
🤣🤣🤣 every single photo it was derailed because wind kept blowing them off to their doom! Wheels run too good! Only way to keep it on the tracks even though off the tracks 🤣🤣🤣 - you and your bloody detail eyes 👍
🚅cool
👍
How standard is your DCC system? Because three different locos, or more accurately decoders, all acting in the same way is suspicious. Do your other ESU decoders work fine with your system, if you have any? Because, IF, it is a unique issue, and IF, your DCC system is not common, it may be something not meshing with the system and the decoders. I am no expert, but it could be some weird issue.
t’s a Z21, I have other brand locos with esu decoders that are completely fine (Bachmann & Cavalex) Z21 has the bus wires connected to the track with nothing else feeding from it to interfere. 👍
Can we please have an interpreter for this video, as can't understand a word that is said.
Sorry pal but you have to understand English isn’t my first language so it’s difficult at times 🙏🏼
could it be an uncouple mode going unstable
@doubleodave Dave. I've just remembered Torridon Road with Pete in the old man's shed had issues. Check out his video
