Hi Dave, I use code 100, DC, and I have several points, all manual. I have one point that is just a little bit hard to reach so I've used point rodding. Works well for me on a reasonable sized layout with 3 lines on two different levels. I am only occasionally envious of the added features of the DCC locos.

Enjoyed your "semi-serious" video. A very interesting debate on points & their operation. It reminded me of one of the design decisions taken on the Queen Elizabeth & Prince of Wales aircraft carriers. It was decided to build them to accommodate launching catapults, but they weren't actually fitted: the approach was termed "for but not with", which is akin to you drilling the holes but not fitting the motors in the first instance. Anyway, if you're not planning to do a lot of shunting, I think minimum spending on point motors makes sense. Code 100 is absolutely fine, IMO & IME. Loved the shots of your green 08 wandering around the yard. Videos tracing your layout building progress would be most welcome. Keep up the good work, sir.

I’d like to see you making the new layout and scenery etc. As for the point motors just flick them over with your finger.Keep it simple 🚂👍

Bit late to the party on this episode, I saw it was nearly 1/2 hour long & I’ve been putting off watching until I’ve got a spare 1/2 hour to watch all the way through (I don’t like watching a bit here & a bit there). Parallel thoughts goin’ on here🤔🤔 With the imminent demise of Colwich Junction fast approaching my head is full of code 75 or 100 insulfrog or electro frog nonsense too. I’ve already started buying for my new layout, because I don’t know where I’m gonna end up I’m going down the shunting route, which at a later date can be incorporated into a proper loft/shed. Similar to you wanting to start the new section of LJ2. I’ve used seeps on all of my points so far & like you say they work well most of the time, but I find the built in switches too temperamental for switching the control panel lights reliably. The colbalt motor look fantastic, but way too pricey if you need a lot so keeping things simple seems like fair game to me👍 Have you seen some folk adopt the “wire in tube” method for point movements, that looks ok too🤔 There s a lot of stuff going round in my head at the moment, it’s like a washing machine on spin between my ears😮🫨😶‍🌫️ Anyway I think I’ll head up to LJ Christmas market sometime soon to clear my head, how much was the mulled wine again? Keep doing what you do & yes I’d be interested to see progress vids of the new layout👍 Cheers John b🤪

There is another option for point motors and that the good old Peco types. Dave on Dean Park has done some good tutorials for wiring and connecting in. These will be my choice .I would keep to Electrofrog points as they operate well on Liberty Junction and look more realistic .If its not broke you dont fix it as the saying goes.

Really enjoyed this. Could just understand your accent LOL. I am thinking very similar with no point motors as the expense is ridiculous. My layout when built will have the engine yard and freight yard close at hand for easy point changing. The outer sections will be country side lines. Subscribed.

Hi Dave,nice video. I am N guage analogue and use code 55 throughout,all hand operated including a scissors crossover bar one.The frog is always live so there’s no need for it to be connected.The only one with point motors is a 3 way asymmetric which has to have frog switching and use Cobalt Analogue and two cross wired toggle switches Route selection keeps you busy but lets face it,whatever your railway is like at the end of the day we’re all playing trains .

I picked up 6 Cobalt Digital motors for about £100 a few months ago for my future layout - haven't started it yet! Since then I'm not completely sure I will use them since I've learned a lot more about the options for doing points, pros and cons etc, so this video is very useful! I notice this latest video is 4k HDR - new for your channel? Unfortunately the RUclips client on my "ordinary" HD TV doesn't deal with 4K very well on some RUclips channels, just got black screen on this latest one until I managed to get into the settings and change to 1080p. Are you going 4k HDR from now on?

Hello mucker, No Cobra Kai for this call sign… seen better choreography between pads wife’s tooled up with broken stilettos in the Garrison 🤣🤣🤣 Reference the points debacle, I’m totally getting where you are coming from but,,, I’d stick with the electro frog points and cobalt’s on all of your hard to reach areas, if your station area and industrial areas are accessible by all means revert to manual. I do think in time you might get bored though and end up electrifying them all. It is painful and expensive at the start so totally get it. Our house move isn’t happening until the end of Jan now which is a right pain! Looking forward to the Xmas Special…

I started out thinking I would go motorised points. But after failing to install two in a rather spectacular way I decided to go hand of god. It may be something I have a go at again on the next layout but not on my present one. To much effort. As for track I went for code 75 bullhead in the end and it was fine. I would say go for whatever is easy for you all looks good in the end and yes do show progress as you go as that is always interesting.

The last time I saw Ladderman, Scooby Doo and the gang caught him scaring people away from the castle in Dylington. So, no one could see he was trying to steal barrels of Dylington's finest custard, and all the barrels he'd stashed away in the castle 😁👍

Do not play around with anything but Code 100 track because you end up compromising with frogs, running stock, and even locomotives. I personally would love seeing the progress videos until the comments come rolling in. I'll look for Ladder Man on Hylton's new layout but once he gets married, we may never see him again. I felt your charity reminded me of something and then it came to me the next thing you will be selling Bibles with Double O Dave's (Trumps) name on the cover plus Double O Dave trading cards with you looking buff in a gladiator costume. I liked the bonus blooper, and I think you should show more of those like at the end of a movie. I always enjoy your videos and find I have to pay attention to every second of them before commenting.
