I know as groomers we all have different methods and for different reasons so this isn't judgment just an idea. It would have helped a TON to blow out that dog before the bath. A lot of groomers don't like doing that because your shop ends up covered in hair and dandruff. This advice has saved me so much! You can get mosquito nets that hang for camping or for beds, put that over your drying area to keep it contained. Quick clean up. They are super light and can be hung on a tiny nail or hook and put up and down easily when needed. I also highly recommend every groomer get a bee keeping hat. It has mesh that covers your face and tightens around your neck. I know we can't all do these things but if your able this setup has worked amazing for me. Just an idea.

The only way she complained was to turn her head and look at your hands. It doesn't hurt you to tell her she's a good girl once in a while. Hold her hair when you're brushing or tugging on the long hairs please. Treat her like you want to be treated! And by the way? That slicker brush hurts when you scratch her skin a million times. It's made of a bunch of stiff hooks. You appear to be a nice lady. Please be nicer to the old dogs! I'm an old retired nurse. Before that I was a vet tech. I love animals. I treat them well.

Poor dog is terribly stressed. I sure hope she had plenty of breaks during that groom. The heavy panting can be from pain. Old dogs like that are very often arthritic, so being forced to stand and balance while someone rips at their coat, difficult and is miserable. A little gentleness would go a long way, as would allowing the dog to lay down at every opportunity.
Thanks for the comment that I was thinking. This poor dog seemed so stressed. I wish she showed some Empathy for these dogs. Just some kind words besides sit or stand. Some of these dogs seem terrified. Kindness goes a long way..

I am feeling so bad for the dog and for you!! So much work for you and so much stress on the dog! Never seen anything like this before, thank goodness!,
Wow you spent over two hours on that dog what a transformation. She looks beautiful compared to to when you started. Did the owner complain about the price of this groom? I hope she didn’t. You do amazing work
You need some sort of matt in the tub for the dogs to stand on ..their paws slide on the steel tub and makes them feel unsafe. Watch when you tried certain positions with her and you will see why she is hesident do as you are asking her to do. She is an very patient dog and im sure can feel your caring .....
I'm not sure I would put the blame on the other groomers, and say they didn't want to put in the effort. If they take in a large volume of dogs and the owner never told them how bad of shape the dog is in, they may not have had enough time to do a proper job before their next appointment. I have a severely compacted samoyed coming in, and the owner let me see him before we booked an appointment. I have blocked an entire day just for him so I can hopefully save the coat. If she had not, I wouldn't have known that this dog is going to take 4+ hours, and only booked it for a 2 hour slot.
Girl, what a tragic mess this person let this precious senior dog get into. Awful on this sweet girl! You are incredible and so thoroughly dedicated to the animals you groom ❤❤
Why are these neglected dogs so compliant? She is just perfect. My small dog does hate grooming and he gets brushed every 2-3 days to be sure there will be no matting. He is not nearly as good as this sweetbeart.
If you're going to get a medium or long haired dog, please keep up with its grooming needs. Our dogs don't deserve to go through what this and many other dogs go through. Great job!
I don’t understand that the owner used to show this dog. Then she would know the grooming requirements. The dog was an angel. It makes me mad that the owner let it get this bad. Brushing a few minutes a day goes a long way.
I feel sooo bad for this poor dog! The aggressive brushing was heartbreaking for the dog. Why would you put it through this? I would have shaved it down instead of putting that dog through hell for hours. You could see the jerking of the skin...just terrible!
I’m sorry but I’m getting angry the dog is MATTED U CANT SHAVE MATTED PARTS OF THE FUR, and if u do it could risk nicking to the skin because of how sensitive it is and also because how thick matted fur is
Yeah she seems a little hamhanded and impatient with the dog, but it's the owner she's understandably upset with. Something else also is stressing our Marybeth today as well. Maybe the painters fiddling around outside? That can be distracting. Some contractors can be unnecessarily noisy and distracting.
I have never seen so much hair flow off of a dog the way this poor dog had hers flowing during her conditioner treatment. And that was followed by the gobs of hair that came off during drying! I hope the sweet and very well mannered dog felt TONS BETTER after this epic grooming!
Oh my!! Undercoated dogs can be a chore with regular scheduled grooms, I have Shelties and there are times when I need to use my hair pick!!! Youre dedication and compassion are phenomenal! This girl looks so beautiful after the grooming, Fabio aint got nuttin compared to this girl!❤🐾
Hi Marybeth, I’m brand new to your channel and you my friend, are awesome to have done this beautiful girl. Such hard work. If this owner is considering taking her to a shelter, please let me know.
New to this channel. I am observing she talks around the animal with virtually nil engagement with the animal. A good boy or soft encouragement would be so nice. It is what l get when l go to my stylist for cut, colour, manicure etc. As l say, l am new to this channel so maybe l have not watched enough content where she displays those things.
I think to would be helpfule dor her and the dogs for her to talk more to them. They seem ro like her, though in spite of it. Animals are instinctual, so I assume if the pets are ok with her, that's all that counts in the end.
😍 I love watching pets being groomed.🥰 She looked like a brand new wonderful dog! I know for myself what it's like when unpredictable jobs or the extent of them increases and takes much longer than expected. 🙄🙈 I'm a hairdresser and I'm also used to it when customers book in for a wash/cut/dry and when they're sitting in the chair, they suddenly think that... they might need highlights or tinting after all, or that their roots are bigger than they thought, that their perm isn't curly enough after the cut... Then you start rotating, because all the other scheduled appointments get messed up and you have to make sure that nobody has to wait too long. 😬 Because if I don't do the service requested, the customer is unhappy and there's always the risk that she'll go somewhere else next time. And if my next customers have to wait too long in between, they are dissatisfied because they had a fixed appointment that I can't keep exactly, which also means there is always the possibility that they might go to another hairdresser next time. 🤷🏼♀️ The salon day is rarely only 8 hours long. You arrive shortly before 8 a.m. and usually don't leave until after 6:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. There are often only very short breaks, during which you can hardly have a proper meal or rest. 🥴 But - you must never let your customers feel that you're running out of time, that you're actually too busy, that the day is too long or that you can't finish work on time. That's where I think to myself that the animals surely also sense when you get hectic, restless or irritated. Doesn't that also affect their behavior? It's not that I don't understand that some days are worse than others, but especially in our profession, the customer should never notice or feel it. That's why I believe that a great deal of patience is often required, especially with animals. Of course, the extra work should be paid for accordingly. But the condition in which the animal is brought, as you have described very correctly, is due to the owner 😤 not the animal itself. 👍🏻 In this case she 🐶 was extremely well behaved, with a wonderful temperament 🫶🏻🫶🏻🩷 But that is not often the case, especially when the treatment takes so much time. I think that's why it's always very important to be calm. You should express to the owner that you are displeased about the facts.🤨 Maybe it was just me who found it so restless and hectic, as I haven't seen so many of your groomings yet. 🤷🏼♀️ I found it quite stressful even watching. But that's just my personal opinion, rather subjective. And that was allready my only point that somehow bothered me. However, the result was really beautiful! The before/after was really impressive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻💕 That was an enormous amount of work!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Astonishing! I certainly hope that a good dog groomer gets proper remuneration for the high skill required for such a remarkable transformation. This lady literally changed the look and wellbeing of this now beautiful animal.Shame on the owner though for neglecting this dog for such a long time,no excuses and well done indeed to the groomer.x
Hi Marybeth I had a question as I have a double coated dog and now it's grooming season. So why is it better to deshed after the bath then before the bath? I was was to deshed her with a slicker and undercoat rake wouldn't that save me more water?
It is definitely an education. I owned a shepard for many years and no one ever told me about going to a groomer. I did pay attention to when shedding started and brushed him many times per day especially during shedding season. He was never carrying a huge undercoat. This would have been much easier especially with most of the coat gone from brushing. It would be nice if where ever you got the dog from would tell you that the dog will need grooming and how often it would be needed. He never needed to be trimmed and never had knots in his hair. We brushed him morning noon and night. Literally every time we sat down he got brushed. Watching tv was easy brush time and he loved it. I now have a chihuahua and was not told he needed to be groomed. He is agressive. I have now got him to where he will tolerate scissors but not for long. I did not start him soon enough because I was not told. I am working with him.
I've watched this one twice and I wonder if it would've helped, since it wasn't matted to trim up the longer pieces of hair before going into the bath? Shorter stuff for the top stuff to go through. Just a thought.
20 Years ago I had a dog that had a lit of fluff, wolf long hair Shepard. From day one to remove fluff we used a shop vac. Hey it worked and she loved it.
The owner is the reason for the unmanageable condition of this lovely dogs coat. Ironically, the owner is also the one who cares more about saving the dogs coat than the pain and stress it now costs the dog to keep it. Its not the groomers fault. Why do you think the groomers before her were only willing to blow her out, and thats it. Meanwhile the poor doggy's fur is neglected even more so, worsening the situation. This woman did an incredible job. She knew what she was doing, and spared the animal as much grief as possible. The owner should not jit have been hell bent on saving the coat that she neglected so badly!
I commend you on the work you do. Just wonder why not start at the back end and work forward when combing out undercoat? It doesn't pull on the dog so much and is way more efficient. I had a chow/collie/german shepherd mix. Starting at the back combing forward I could get 3 brown paper bags off her when she would drop her Winter coat. And is there a reason there products squirted on are never worked into coat? Cowboy Magic zdetangler and Shine is a much better product than Show Sheen won't leave then greasy. Just sayin.
Erm?? This owner used to show this dog??! Really?? WTF??!! So now the dog is old and she doesn’t show her anymore she’s just shoved by the wayside and forgotten about until she gets matted and has compacted fur? Wtf??!! This is the second video of yours I’ve watched and I am totally with you. I have no idea how you keep your cool with people. This dog was such a lovely sweet shepherd too and was patient while you worked on her. Shame on this owner. I hope she has sorted herself out and looks after this dog a lot better than she has been. xx Edit: if the lady complained about the price I hope you showed her your work area and how much fur was everywhere as well as the before and after shots.
The owner is a LIAR! She loved when you were brushing her. The owner is TOO LAZY to do it. Besides products etc, I hoped you charged her for your time as well. This was a lot you had to do, alot of time. All that hair, as it came off the dog looked thinner. Forget what their talking about, this isn't excessive at all! She seems to be enjoying it or happy that all that shedding hair is being removed. You have A LOT of patience honey! Keep doing the great work you enjoy doing❣️ $450 job! GOD Bless you!
Love this video MaryBeth, very hard and long groom for you but a great job well done. I must admit I love watching grooms with a full blowout. This poor dog should be brushed daily to keep the coat in tip top condition. Can’t imagine the epic clean up of the shop after you finished 🥴👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️
I know you have to be a little rough and I think you are doing an amazing job. Dog's not complaining much. It must feel good to him. Keep up the great work.
I totally agree with you about what's best for the dog. The owner needs to take better care of the dog. No excuses for all the mats and died skin. The dog looked so much better afterwards.
I would have loved to seen how much of hair total that came from this dog after all the cleanup you had to do. You are an angel from heaven that God has sent to help his dogs.
hey it looks like are really pulling on that hair, does it feel like you are detangling that matt? Also, what are some of the signs of a dog feeling pain when detangling their wet hair AND signs for feelings of enjoyment of the detangling process? :) Thanks!
I think she looks great! You gave her a whole years worth of grooming in one visit. I would love to see her with her tail up. I hope we get to see the owner’s reaction to how pretty she looks. It is amazing that she showed that dog and then let her get that bad. The dry skin might be from the wrong kind of shampoo they might be using.
That poor sweet old lady! What a procedure. It would be great to know if the owner ever brings her back - and how long it takes before that happens. Marybeth’s patience and professionalism throughout this tough groom is commendable.

I am feeling so bad for the dog and for you!! So much work for you and so much stress on the dog! Never seen anything like this before, thank goodness!,
The dog was SUCH a good patient one. I think she enjoyed being pampered.
The hair never ends,Mary beth your such a great dog groomer, so patient and smart keep doing what your doing ❤️
Nice job Rover the dog looks beautiful. Excellent work!
I liked that shop you had worked so hard on MB - I hope you are doing well and able to take life a bit easier now with your new approach!
It probably feels good after all of that neglect.
Does the brushing have to be so aggressive? That poor dog.😢
Did the owner have to neglect the dog so terribly? 🤷♀️
@@wyomingadventures does that make it OK?
Seemed pissed off at the very sweet dog by the way she was grooming her
@@Sara-xc9xoshe was brushing out the access hair, and she would never harm a dog the way you’re putting it!?
I think the dog would yelp out if it was hurting.
I feel sorry for this old gal, she does not deserve this... shame on the owner!
She doesn't like having her nails done and I pray that 🙏 she wasn't in a lot of pain from the brushing, it seemed to be so harsh
Wow that was ALOT!!! I have 3 Poms and a rescue I bought a high velocity dryer…LIFE SAVER… you are so patient great job 😅
I feel sooo bad for this poor dog! The aggressive brushing was heartbreaking for the dog. Why would you put it through this? I would have shaved it down instead of putting that dog through hell for hours. You could see the jerking of the skin...just terrible!
Why would the owner neglect the dog that terrible is my question. The groomer did a great job imo.
I’m sorry but I’m getting angry the dog is MATTED U CANT SHAVE MATTED PARTS OF THE FUR, and if u do it could risk nicking to the skin because of how sensitive it is and also because how thick matted fur is
I have never watched this method before and it was very satisfying to watch all that coat rinse off and blow away ❤❤❤
I feel so sorry for both the dog and the groomer what a hell of a job and the poor old lady dog is so patient she must have a lovely nature ❤❤
Who else loves Marybeth rover's makeover dog grooming
She does a great job
I do .I think she is very good at what she does.just would like to find her new videos where she is in New shop
She is the best and never does anything half way.
Mee
I do & she is definitely the best of the best on RUclips .
Great groom, MB. What a difference!!!
You need to invest in anti slip guards for that tub. That poor girl was slipping around. She couldn't stand without her back paws slipping backwards
Maybe you could be more gentle? Somewhat rough handling on this poor dog 🙁
Yeah she seems a little hamhanded and impatient with the dog, but it's the owner she's understandably upset with. Something else also is stressing our Marybeth today as well. Maybe the painters fiddling around outside? That can be distracting. Some contractors can be unnecessarily noisy and distracting.
Or, not done her at the end of the day. The poor woman sounds exhausted!
She don't talk to the dog doesn't feel to see if the water is right temperature ,
To be honest she seems a little brutal with the dog. I'm sorry but she could NEVER groom my baby.
@sharonyatwtf comparing a baby to a dog? es6238
Your hair dresser says sit and listen. I will give you a treat when we done. 😂
😍 I love watching pets being groomed.🥰 She looked like a brand new wonderful dog!
I know for myself what it's like when unpredictable jobs or the extent of them increases and takes much longer than expected. 🙄🙈
I'm a hairdresser and I'm also used to it when customers book in for a wash/cut/dry and when they're sitting in the chair, they suddenly think that... they might need highlights or tinting after all, or that their roots are bigger than they thought, that their perm isn't curly enough after the cut... Then you start rotating, because all the other scheduled appointments get messed up and you have to make sure that nobody has to wait too long. 😬
Because if I don't do the service requested, the customer is unhappy and there's always the risk that she'll go somewhere else next time. And if my next customers have to wait too long in between, they are dissatisfied because they had a fixed appointment that I can't keep exactly, which also means there is always the possibility that they might go to another hairdresser next time. 🤷🏼♀️
The salon day is rarely only 8 hours long. You arrive shortly before 8 a.m. and usually don't leave until after 6:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. There are often only very short breaks, during which you can hardly have a proper meal or rest. 🥴
But - you must never let your customers feel that you're running out of time, that you're actually too busy, that the day is too long or that you can't finish work on time.
In this case she 🐶 was extremely well behaved, with a wonderful temperament 🫶🏻🫶🏻🩷
But that is not often the case, especially when the treatment takes so much time.
I think that's why it's always very important to be calm. You should express to the owner that you are displeased about the facts.🤨
Maybe it was just me who found it so restless and hectic, as I haven't seen so many of your groomings yet. 🤷🏼♀️ I found it quite stressful even watching. But that's just my personal opinion, rather subjective. And that was allready my only point that somehow bothered me.
However, the result was really beautiful! The before/after was really impressive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻💕
That was an enormous amount of work!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
If dogs find the pulling of raking unpleasant, how does the velocity blow of the undercoat coming out do you think?
Astonishing! I certainly hope that a good dog groomer gets proper remuneration for the high skill required for such a remarkable transformation. This lady literally changed the look and wellbeing of this now beautiful animal.Shame on the owner though for neglecting this dog for such a long time,no excuses and well done indeed to the groomer.x
Exactly 💯
It’s so sad to see a behaved dog to be in this condition. They are so helpless . Thanks to you, you’re such a loving caring groomer
She looks good. I like the comfort cut you gave her.
I love these types of under coat removals, they're soo satisfying ❤.
Hi Marybeth I had a question as I have a double coated dog and now it's grooming season. So why is it better to deshed after the bath then before the bath? I was was to deshed her with a slicker and undercoat rake wouldn't that save me more water?
Josh!! I was watching again and just had to tell you i being67 appreciate how you handled this sr lady. Godbless you and your family sweetheart 💜💜💜😇
So ein lieber Hund 💜
Who else loves watching the matted dog vids?
34:15 Can you see her front legs slipping forward every time you make her sit
Wow Marybeth! Awesome job. Very well behaved.❤
dog is so patient. great work done on her
I've watched this one twice and I wonder if it would've helped, since it wasn't matted to trim up the longer pieces of hair before going into the bath? Shorter stuff for the top stuff to go through. Just a thought.
Wow! What a difference from before and after!
20 Years ago I had a dog that had a lit of fluff, wolf long hair Shepard. From day one to remove fluff we used a shop vac. Hey it worked and she loved it.
I love you’re hair ❤
Wait why does the thumbnail say with owners reaction of there was no reaction from the owner?
The owner is the reason for the unmanageable condition of this lovely dogs coat. Ironically, the owner is also the one who cares more about saving the dogs coat than the pain and stress it now costs the dog to keep it. Its not the groomers fault. Why do you think the groomers before her were only willing to blow her out, and thats it. Meanwhile the poor doggy's fur is neglected even more so, worsening the situation. This woman did an incredible job. She knew what she was doing, and spared the animal as much grief as possible. The owner should not jit have been hell bent on saving the coat that she neglected so badly!
I like you doing the animals I think it's really nice of you❤
Absolutely and excellent hard working miracles on this dog ; Mary Beth you put your self extra miles today WOW WOW WOW !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hope she has sorted herself out and looks after this dog a lot better than she has been. xx
Edit: if the lady complained about the price I hope you showed her your work area and how much fur was everywhere as well as the before and after shots.
It would be nice to know how much the dog weighed before and after the procedure.
I was always told not to get a dog wet before you brush them cause it makes the tangled hair hard to get out.
Imagine having that much extra hair and dead skin cells etc not just on your head but all over your body 😰
Great job what a beautiful dog now it's cleaned up
I know you have to be a little rough and I think you are doing an amazing job. Dog's not complaining much. It must feel good to him. Keep up the great work.
Love you for all the help, you're really quick to judge tho
I totally agree with you about what's best for the dog. The owner needs to take better care of the dog. No excuses for all the mats and died skin. The dog looked so much better afterwards.
I would have loved to seen how much of hair total that came from this dog after all the cleanup you had to do. You are an angel from heaven that God has sent to help his dogs.
What is the brand of force dryer you're using?
hey it looks like are really pulling on that hair, does it feel like you are detangling that matt?
She's beautiful! I don't see her pulling away! So cute,,,
I wonder if requiring a photo of the dog before the appointment would help.
Poor sweet one! She did so great! You are a rock star Marybeth!
Mary Beth, great job on a difficult coat. I use to groom dogs. I really like your process and reasoning for debulking the extremely matted coat. Like your products as well. Hope the pet owner appreciate s all you've done. Doggie was so good during the groom.
Mary Beth, there are no words for dog to be in this condition. Bless U Both
I think you did a wonderful job. She looks so muh better and I am sure she feels better too.
