    ATTENTION!!!!! YOU CAN USE YOUR TRUCK DIPSTICK AND TUBE WITH THIS PAN!
    If you don’t want to buy an LS3 dipstick and tune, you need to cut your truck dipstick so that it only comes 2 1/2” out of the bottom of the tube. Then measure 1 1/8” up from the new bottom of the dipstick and scratch a new full mark there.

      Then you should watch the video again and pay attention to the part where I show you how to trim your baffle to clear the pickup tube. 🤣 It’s the exact same process that the Holley pan requires. But I covered it in detail in this video since these pans don’t come with instructions. 😉

      Thanks for watching Jarod! Yes sir! It’s the 81074 pan I believe. Very similar to the Holley 302-1 except for a few minor differences. The entire reason I sought out this pan and made this video was to help people out who like myself either don’t want to pay $350 for a pan or simply don’t have it in the budget. So if you know of anyone else that could use it, please share this video and help get the word out!

    It appears there is some confusion over the size of the turbo drain lines on this pan. The fittings are 1/2”NPT, which is equivalent to a -10AN fitting.
    When adapting NPT to AN the standards are:
    NPT sizes
    1/8npt = -4AN
    1/4npt = -6AN
    3/8npt = -8AN
    1/2npt = -10AN
    3/4npt = -12AN
    When adapting LINE size to AN, the measurements are:
    LINE sizes
    1/4= -4AN
    3/8 = -6AN
    1/2 = -8AN
    5/8= -10AN
    3/4= -12AN
    So here is the fitting you will need to run a -10AN drain line: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2334524.m570.l1311.R1.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.TRS0%26_nkw%3D1%252F2%2Bnpt%2Bto%2B10an%26_sacat%3D6028%26LH_TitleDesc%3D0%26_osacat%3D6028%26_odkw%3D1%252F2%2522npt%2Bto%2B-10%2BAN&campid=5338299795&toolid=20008
    I hope that clears this issue up.

      No sir. The gap is a larger than the thickness of the pan gasket. This is the same modification that has to be made to the Holley pans. The last thing you want to do is to smash the oil pan down against the wind age tray. This could bent the windage tray in and cause it to make contact with one of the counterweights only the crankshaft! NOT a good idea! As for the oil filter, I would LOVE to see you pre-fill and oil filter and install it upside down. 🤣 The filter will be filled and reinstalled and engine filled with oil once the engine is in the vehicle. You don’t “prefill” on an engine stand when you’re going to be rotating the engine around unless you want a mess in your garage floor. This goes double for an engine with no heads bolted in yet as seen in the video.

      This info is useful, thanks for posting. I just wanted to point out Hydraulic JIS fittings have cylindrical threads, and NPT is National Pipe Thread, which is slightly tapered. The "dash ten" / -10 means 10/16ths, or also 5/8ths. When tightened down, perhaps it will not leak, but...I would recommend finding an adapter fitting that is JIS on one side, and NPT on the other. An un-pressurised drain should be fairly easy to seal from leaks, either way....

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  5 лет назад +1

      @@ronroberts110 The pan is threaded for NPT fitting. You just need a 1/2"NPT to -10 AN adapter. Its the most common part when running a Turbo oil return and is around $5. I have several from previous builds.You can use a JIS fitting if you like, but there really isn't any cost saving when you're talking about sure a cheap piece anyway, so I would just stick with AN.

    Silicone where the covers meet the block is critical. On the 4.8 I just dropped in the 86 GMC, I used what I thought was a sufficient amount, & apparently it wasn’t. I filled it with oil & spun it over to verify oil pressure while it was still on the stand. A few days later, I looked down, spotted oil on the floor, & had a drip at the seam above the starter. Dropped the pan & re-sealed it, & let it sit about another week to make sure there was no more leaks. Easier to do while still on the stand rather than after it was in the truck.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  5 лет назад +2

      Yes sir and you’d be surprised how many people argue against doing it dispute that fact that EVERY oil pan manufacturer and even GM tells you to do it. Hell they even build in silicone “traps” into the corners of the pan gaskets solely for this purpose but people still don’t do it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

So I would have to remember to go back on every single video and post hundreds of new links every time one expired, lol. So that’s why I use search links instead and usually just tell people the seller I bought from in the video. Anyway I hope that guy fixes the issue for you. If not just file and eBay complaint, get your money back, and order from Poorman Motorsports instead. He’s been really good to this channel and to everyone I’ve sent his way. Most of oil filter adaptor bolts, have the same thread on the oil pan side. The oil filter for rate of flow, physical size, capacity and service length are factors the engineering department uses to choose a filter. The filter media for the most part remains the same but they use three different oil relief valve sizes. So basically, if this pan/engine combo is new to a swap vehicle, but you have a stash of PF46 filters for the families daily driver, use a breaker bar and fetch one. The have a dry blue thread locker on them, when the dealer box is opened. You have metric oil pan threads unless you go before 97 on most.
    I was hoping to see a pan used for the 67 - 72 C10 in your other videos, so I will watch them. I would have printed “Top Street Performance & P/N on paper, tape it to cardboard and display on the right side of the bench for the first half. I am subscribed and enjoy.

      There’s a hole in the pan there, but not in the block. This was a thing throughout the years. Some LS style blocks have this hole, some do not. This pan and gasket have the hole so it accommodates both types. 👍

      The gap is definitely larger than the thickness of the pan gasket. So it’s still going to have to be clearances back to the step in the pan regardless. This is actually very similiar in dimension to the Holley 302-3 pan that we used in the DRNova. If you click the link in the video description, it will take to the seller. He has the picture of the pans measurements as well as a list of vehicles it is intended for. I’m pretty sure Apollo, Nova, Omega, Ventura is in the list. 👍🏻

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  5 лет назад +2

      The pan itself is cheap, yes. But the “kit” with all the accessories is well over $350 which makes this package over $100 cheaper and fits more applications than the fbody pan.

    I just purchased this pan. The pickup tube was hitting the oil pan baffle. Had to cut a decent amount out of the baffle. I'm a little worried about it cracking now. It looks like they changed the pickup tube from the one in the video.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  3 года назад +3

      Yes, you have to cut the windage tray. . Just like you do with the Holley pan, or the SE pan, or any other low profile aftermarket pan. This procedure is covered in the video. If you’re referring to the actual baffle in the bottom of the pan then either you didn’t trim enough off the windage tray and it was holding the pickup tube up at a weird angle, or you got a bad pickup tube and should have returned it. Poorman Motorsports has very good customer support. That’s why I recommended getting it there. Either way you risk the pickup tube not being seated properly and possible causing low oil pressure and engine failure. I would highly recommend you pinpoint the exact problem and either return the pan for a new one or make sure the problem is properly remedied before starting that engine.

    • @Flashy2003
      @Flashy2003 3 года назад

      @@BadLuckGarage What point in the video did you trim the oil pan baffle? Not the windage tray. But the oil pan baffle.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  3 года назад +2

      You don’t trim the baffle, you trim the windage tray. Again, if you had to trim the baffle then you either didn’t trim enough off the windage tray to allow the pickup tube to sit all the way down or the pickup tube was bent wrong and you should have sent it back.

    It's cheaper to buy Fbody oil pan and accessories on rockauto?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching. The Fbody pan doesn’t fit every application and doesn’t come with all gaskets and accessories. By the time you buy all the additional items the cost is very similar. These pans come with all new gaskets, bolts, and accessories and are available in three different models to fit any application. They are also available in raw aluminum, black, or polished if you’re worried about looks. 👍

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  5 лет назад

    Thats a small opening on the pickup

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  3 года назад

      Standard size. 🤷🏼‍♂️ The overall area of the opening in the pickup is still larger than the overall area of the pickup tube itself. So the pickup tube is more of a restriction than the pickup tube opening.
