    Kevin Smith is one of the most caring and down-to-earth people in the industry.
    He will take a moment to acknowledge your existence and listen to what you have to say even if you have never met.
    He is so enthusiastic about life, he can make me excited about traffic. Much love Kev.

    Kevin Smith inspired me to make short films, never give up. I was able to make a feature film called The Luring, a psychological thriller that’s now available on Amazon and this is because I’ve always loved indie filmmaking and especially Kevin Smith. He’s awesome!

      So, what’s it feel like after all the practice & work is done, your dream becomes a reality? I mainly ask because Kevin Smith also inspires me. I hope to get a job soon so I can go to film school to learn to become a Director myself or that’s what I dream about all the time now, that along when I get my driver’s license so I can to any place I’d like to go.

    I COMPLETELY agree with Kevin Smith's point about spreading positivity and a lean away from negativity. Having said that... the commentaries that he & Marc Bernardin did several years ago for each of the first 4 Batman films (where they're not shy about any criticisms they have) are some of the funniest material from him I've ever heard.

    I met Kevin Smith last year and he is one of the kindest people to meet. He takes his time to talk to his fans. I talked to Kevin for over 5 minutes. When I went to get my photo op with him he said give me a hug. We exchanged hugs. Just one of the coolest people to meet. Michael I was going to meet you as well but you backed out of the convention. It was Fanboy Expo in Knoxville TN. I do hope to meet you one day. You probably had scheduling conflicts and couldn’t make it. I loved Smallville and you were my favorite character in the show. My favorite movie with you in it is Pool Hall Junkies. I seen that at the theaters when that came out

    • @krank23
      @krank23 5 месяцев назад +5

      Absolutely! This is what I've been learning the past few years as well. Love watching channels like CinemaWIns that just exude positive energy and try to find the good rather than the bad. Any rube can find the bad, it's unproductive and boring and just creates a negative mindspace. If I'm gonna spend time explaining why something's bad, it'd better be something impoortant that actually impacts peoples lives (homophobia, fascism etc) and I try to limit it to situations where my bitching actually has a chance of making a positive difference. Not saying I always succeed, but that's the goal…

      I'm actually concerned here. This attitude that almost demonises criticism which can be constructive and NEEDS to be done on some level, it's extremely shortsighted. Fair enough if YOU want to live life thinking the best about everything everywhere but that isn't the real world. You need to be able to point out issues and where things can improve, that's how we do better. I'm not saying we need to be overly critical but I think the idea that you need to turn your mind off and not look for debatable things in life is no better than looking for things to only criticize (2 sides of the same coin).

    • @krank23
      @krank23 5 месяцев назад +6

      @@TheycallmeMrWonka Criticism and being negative is not the same thing.
      Also, like I said, I try to focus on times where my criticism has a chance of actually being effective - and are about something that's actually important: Me whining to you that I didn't like an episode of Doctor Who, or me whining about it in some comment section on Facebook, doesn't do shit. That just feeds into a negative mindset withoutt creating any actual change.
      I'm a teacher by trade. Of course I give my students constructive criticism. That's a situation where it's 1) important (they need to learn), 2) effective (they are hopefully motivated by my suggestions, they have a high chance of implementing them).
      Not spending your waking hours whining about things you hate doesn't mean you never give constructive criticism. Noone's saying you shouldn't gve constructive criticism. But being constantly negative without it being part of a strategy for actually creating change is just self-destructive.
      Any idiot can be "funny" by being overly harsh. Any idiot can find flaws in a movie they just watched. FInding the good stuff in a movie you immediately disliked - that's skill.

    • @rickr8173

    You had Kevin Smith only talk for an hour. That is a feat only Lex could pull off. lol That man can talk and i am here for to hear it all. He is so genuinely nice like you Michael. Very fan friendly. i have gone to the movie theater he bought in Jersy often. Always has a smile and give you a moment with him. looks you in the eye truly listens to you for either 10 seconds whi a hi or ten minutes shooting the shit.

    I was one of those people That told Kev his stupid movies saved my life. Not only that. Meeting him kickstarted me following and completely every fucking dream i had. Hell of a thing. To go from playing russian Roulette once a day, Every morning. To Straight up living my dreams completely. He would say that he had nothing to do with it. And maybe he didnt. But he certianly gave me a blueprint, and the kind words.

    Love this podcast until the end of my life which is probably not far away, i see much similiraties to my own life. Kevin Smith is right btw, I spend millions of other people's money ( more correct term reinvest them) but not all of them investments bare fruit right away, but its odd because what people see as failure at the time most allways end up in long term relationships, but it's sad because the work and effort you put in to lay the foundation will allways be remembered as a failure. I don't know how to keep un going but this podcast has allways helped me navigate and understand myself better. Thank you!

    Seriously one of the best. Episodes, guest, etc. I love Kevin Smith not for his talent, which he does have, but his refreshing honesty and humor. I'm trying to be more positive in my life and not promote negativity which feels far too easy to do these days. My only regret with this episode is it went by too quickly. Thanks for another great show, guys.

    Oh yeah. Mark Hamill's cameo in Jay and Silent Bob film playing a parody of a Jedi Knight mixed with Joker persona to this day is hilarious. Your next guest you have to get Mark Hamill and his Harrison Ford impression is spot on.

    Over in Oz we have an MA-15 rating for exactly this reason. It's still restricted to get into the theatre, but not as restricted as R.

    I got a chance to meet Kevin at a screening at the Burns Theater in Pleasantville, NY, of one of his favorite movies; A Man For All Seasons. They showed the movie, did a Q&A, and afterwards, he kind of milled around with us for a while and I got to ask him how satisfying it was having a Bong Saber duel with Mark Hamill (this was long before Mark came back into the spotlight with the sequels, even the presence of the prequels had faded, so even bringing up Mark Hamill was a sign of exactly how into Star Wars you were). You tell how lucky he felt in his answer to have ever had the opportunity to think of doing that in a movie, let alone actually getting to do it. Not to be melodramatic, but Kevin Smith is a redeeming quality of the human species.

    I was at disney land about 6 years ago with my girlfriend and saw him there with a group of people. I told my gf "holy crap that's kevin smith!". I went up to him and didn't wanna bother him but had to tell him "hey Kevin Clerks is one of my all time favorite movies". He stopped, told me to get my phone out and proceeded to take a selfie with us and was just SO nice. I will never forget that.

    Thanks to Rosie, Ryan and Kevin! 🎙 My younger brother had a heart attack shortly after Kevin had his. I used Kevin's example of going plant-based and exercising more to encourage my brother to make healthier choices. His second heart attack at age 48 took him. But I still am grateful for the approachable role model Kevin is... in addition to loving his movies, etc.

    Rosenbaum is definitely onto something with Rotten Tomatoes. I have seen so many duds that they gave high marks to. What's worse, when I tried to leave a critique of a movie, they shadow-banned me. As someone who runs a RUclips page with a lot of subscribers, I know how difficult it is to get even semi-literate comments, so it's highly suspect to disallow cogent reviews.

    The first time I watched Mall Rats, think I was like 15/16, my dad came in and instead of "the fuck is this shit?" he sat and watched it and we both laughed together. To say we have different taste in movies would be an understatement, but that stupid little movie we actually enjoyed together.
