- How To Defeat Fire Giant - Elden Ring Gameplay Guide
Fire Giant is known for stopping players dead in their tracks of progression in Elden Ring, but trust me when I say that the strategy that I've been using since day one of Elden Ring's release is highly effective and has never failed me in taking down Fire Giant with zero damage taken. In this video I discuss these tactics so that you too can make a joke out of this boss.
The Golden Order has been broken. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.
Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are interconnected through a central hub that players can access later in the game's progression-similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls-and are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies alike, including the demigods who rule each main area and serves as the game's main bosses.
Combat in Elden Ring relies heavily on character-building elements found in previous Souls games and related intellectual properties, such as calculated and close-ranged melee-based combat with the use of skills, magic abilities, as well as blocking and dodging mechanics. Elden Ring introduces mounted combat and a stealth system, the latter being a core gameplay element from Sekiro; these features are expected to encourage players in strategizing their combat approach with each unique enemy they encounter. The game makes use of a player character stamina bar after being absent from Sekiro, although its overall influence over combat was reduced compared to previous FromSoftware games that utilized it. Unlike in Sekiro, resurrection mechanics after in-game death are not available; however, some elements were added to ensure players' progression within the game.
Miyazaki stated that the customization in Elden Ring would be richer, as players are able to discover different skills through their exploration of the map instead of unlocking skill trees as in Sekiro and differing from the pre-fixed weapon skills of FromSoftware's previous games. These skills are interchangeable with a large variety of weapons which, alongside equipment, magic abilities, and items players can craft using materials found within the world, can be used to customize the player character.[4][6] The game also features summoning mechanics, where players can summon a large variety of collectible spirits hidden throughout the game's world map, including previously defeated enemies, as allies to assist them in battle. Similar to the Souls series, the game's multiplayer allows other players to be summoned for cooperative play.

i have battled this boss for 6 hours and watched few other videos. Only managed to kill him after watch your tip. Just hit the TOE :D. That`s the only way to stay safe and do max damage. Great job Josh for produce such fantastic guide.

i use to distant from him, swing over on a cliff round a certain rock , where he must follow you, and then he got stuick behind an area..i use Latenna the bow girl...and let her to the job while i extract him...but the now climb to the area im at then he smashed me and Latenna lol

@@SpellboundSpectre Idk how but it took me a single day to beat it. I mean legit like all day it took me to beat it. It got easier once I went full charge attacks on the second phase. I went with a strength build but even that sucked cause my stamina was always gone in 3 or less hits from catching up to him.
pretty sure we could run a case study that alot of people quit playing the game because of this boss. Alot of people ask you in stream about this guy and its the most viewed boss battle so far. If what I believe is true then you may have restored some elden ring playthroughs that weren't finished! GG Joosh!

The problem with this boss is that it's just a damage sponge. Fighting damage sponges is never fun and my build doesn't use status effects so I can't cheese it like in the vid unless I break my build.
I am currently stuck there myself I wouldn't say my run was dead yet but it was getting there lol

Same here. I just started a new save file and I checked when the last time I played was. It said around June, so close to 7 months ago. I am on him again, and I am remembering why I quit. The game was fun until now.
The advice for the second phase was absolutely amazing! Besides the fact that his fire breath attack is inescapable when you’re that close (it’s telegraphed pretty well so you can get away) you made an insanely difficult challenge easy! Can’t wait to use this for future runs as well!

This guide helped a lot! Couple things I want to point out: when attacking the giant's foot, stay *behind* it so you're facing its sole, this will prevent you taking damage when it rolls and lessen the odds you will destroy your controller. Many a time this got me when I had it down to less than a couple thousand HP because I got greedy.
Mix and use your physick to boost stamina recovery and max stamina, I try to hold off on using it until I've at a minimum broken the bind on the left foot (weak spot).
Using a fully-levelled Banished Knight Oleg spirit ash *just before* getting the fire giant to phase 2 is greatly helpful. It tanks the shit out of him while he's still vulnerable and exclusively pulls aggro the entire time he's alive allowing you to land hits.
Be wary of the barrier blocking your progress to the forge of the giants. If the fire giant has come to rest at this spot after a roll, do not find yourself trapped between it and the barrier as it may use its fire eruption AoE in a spot where you're unable to escape.
The fire giant tends to use its fast flame projectiles or hammer smash immediately after coming out of a roll. If you line yourself up directly with its torso and sprint forward on your horse right as he starts to smash down, you'll go right between his legs taking no damage and you'll be perfectly positioned to land more hits.
Use a gold pickled fowl foot right before landing the fatal blow. When I did this fight, I'd been at 0 runes at level 106. This victory netted me 233,400ish runes.
I was able to beat the Fire Giant, watching you battle him during your previous playthroughs . Called it unluckey, but he still killed me twice. One shot me with his dinner try slam.
The fact that it only took a couple attempts speaks volumes though!
additional advices I'd give:
1. in first phase, if he goes to some wonky places like the edge, or just annoying hills where the weak leg is mid air, just get away and get him to follow you to clean terrain, just watch out from attacks he does only when you're far
2. I often miss the double jump at the start and take damage, but unmouting/remounting seemed a lot more reliable, I never missed it
3. in second phase, when he decides to roll, give him some space, he might run over
I almost beat him but he rolled over me and i died lol
If you're summoned in co-op to fight it. You can dodge through the first attack on foot. I can usually dodge it now....
Too bad the rest of the fight is SUPER hellish as a co-operator....
Seriously, I would SO much rather fight Elden Beast than Fire Giant.

Thank you! I was struggling with him and then saw this and after a couple tries it worked! After his phase 2 started I summoned my mimic tear and it was super easy. One thing to note is you can’t target his leg during phase 2, that’s why I was struggling
what do you attack instead of the leg on phase 2?

Like others in the comments, let me say thank you for saving this game for me. I must have died 50+ times in phase 2 before giving up and looking for a guide and after this video I took him down in three tries.
I did it on a very unoptimized DEX build, 2-handing +18 bloodhound claws w/ blood grease, and dropping +10 Latenna on top of the hill while I kited around trying to draw aggro and zipping in for toe slashes between his attacks.
Celebrated by almost immediately (and inadvertently) setting the Erdtree alight. So now apparently I'm the bad guy?
Beat him on my first day of fighting him with no prior souls game experience thanks to this thanks man

I know it sounds crazy but the best thing to do is watch your stamina if you notice in this video he hardly runs with torrent save stamina as much as possible to get them toes you got this I just beat him after watching this video make sure your weapon is leveled up too I used bloodhound claws Lv 8 for my weapon and summoned great shield ashes as decoy even tho they don't really much 😅

I come to this boss like once every 4-6 months per PT and he knocks me off my horse with his first attack literally every single time for the first 6 or 7 fights ☠️
Awesome strategy, worked as an astrologer, just stayed on Torrent and underneath him where he couldn’t one-shot me with his shield. Kept smacking his foot with the Moonveil katana, popped some rotten breath in phase 2, then more sword on the toes, and he went down pretty quickly. Thanks!

Hey there, great video and guide on how to beat the giant. As a second status effect, I used the Rotten Breath attack, but otherwise I followed your guide closely. I finally killed him after 10 or so attempts - and died a second later, but with the remembrance :D

Amazing tip!! I tried a handful of times before watching your vid and on the second time using your strat I slaughtered them toes!!!!! I did also cheese him a lil by putting on shabriris woe and summoning a mimic beforehand (since talismen equiped transfer to mimic tear) and then taking it off so all his attention was on my mimic and mine was on his toes.

Amazing guide my man. With this guide i managed to beat him at level 81 with uchigatana +19. All i did differently was after him starting phase two (when the fire goes around him and he bends his back and shoots behind him) i struck him with rotten breath spell. After that i just chased him like you did plus he was taking damage over the time i got to him

Thank you SO MUCH, my dude! I've been mainly using the Icerind Hatchet most of the second half of my playthrough and was freaking out because the wiki says he's resistant to cold damage PERIOD. The fact that he's WEAK in the second phase has made ALLLLL of the difference!! This helped me get him in one go after SOOO long.

*Literally can block most attacks including the ice breath attack*
*Your stance may break, but it's better than getting killed quick*

Thank you! I quit the game 3 times because of this boss. I returned after almost a year and playing probably 6-7 other games. I kept getting him down to about 25% health and then he would just roll on top of me and crush me. Your advice about staying behind him, staying focused on the same foot, staying on my horse, and adding frost in phase 2 all helped me to finally progress in the game. Still on first playthrough so never finished the game, but now (after probably 30+ attempts at this boss) he is finally dead and I can continue to enjoy this amazing game! :) Liked and subscribed

Amazing video, it helped a lot! I think phase one is harder because that’s when the giant can roll and move more, which could get you vulnerable to a smash attack if you can’t get underneath him fast enough! Second phase he doesn’t move as much!

After 13 days of 1 hr is each or half hr depending on the frustration, today I beat this guy fr. Your guide was spot on.
I used a strength build, guys greatsword, with claw talisman and lions roar, for second half used rapier which had rot and bleed as passive. Massive damage
