Loved this song before, but now it holds some significance. While his slideshow at the memorial will be all the music he loved, I’m closing it with the ending of this song. Unfortunately Ghost has become too political. Many people are saying they’re forcing the vaccination. When did rock stars become so blinded by the government?? So sad. Our president sucks right now and it’s sad that some bands blindly give into what ever they are told.
I ran into Tobias at a make-up shop (they have special effects) in 2018 and I've never felt more struck in my life. I didn't hear a damn thing that man said. All I could hear was my heart pounding and feel my body profusely sweat. I could not think my way out of a paper bag. He's a creative hero and I love how heartfelt this song is. I wanna buy that man a beer.
Love this, my dad liked his rock music mainly Bowie, Queen, T-Rex etc he died in 2007 and I really feel gutted I never got to show him Ghost, think he’d dig it, your comment feels like that solidified it more.
Nah man its just "white people music" doesn't get the push anymore. If you don't rap, or mumble, or push drug use you don't get any real airplay. Took this band over a decade till finally the culture creators said they should probably capitalize on this
"Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song." -Tobias on cirice, and this one too it seems, I love how he touches on manipulation and indoctrination so subtly and pointedly, this song tells of the efforts of the narrator to isolate their subject, to make them dependant on them for all their needs, even warning them it's going to "seem" like coldness and suffering, and telling them they are going to "paint paradise" (a simulacra) and going to watch it dry (it can only go down from there) and manages to make it seem almost earnest and romantic, it's so damn clever
Cirice actually means Church, it's some long ago anglo saxon origin lol. I studied up on it because thats just what i like to do with tobais's songs. i wonder if that's what they would have named the cat on Stephen King's Pet Sematary if it were a girl. Cirice just sounds beautiful to me. :)
I recently became aware of Ghost through my cover band. We play "Square Hammer". When Ghost released the new song "Call Me Little Sunshine", I thought it was a really good song and listened to it numerous times. I was aware their new album was coming out today (March 11th). I'm on RUclips and I happen to see a new song called "Darkness At The Heart Of My Love". Those words spoke to me, so I click and play the song. By the end, I have tears in my eyes. I lost my wife in 2018. The lyrics in the song "When the summer dies, severing the ties, I'm with you always.....always". She passed away in September....just as summer was dying. What an amazing song. I hope the darkness will eventually lift, as I continue on this journey, and also hope one day to love again. Thank you Ghost. Thank you.
@@skatterpro You just made it absolutely clear that you have no understanding of real songwriting more sophisticated than something "BrOoTaL", so shove off with your lousy attitude.
@@skatterpro first off, Trent Reznor's pop sensibilities are at the core of NIN's greatness, and if you deny that or discount NIN, then you have no seat at a table discussing great music. Second, Tobias's classic metal influences are right out on his sleeve, so there's no "written by committee" happening here... if you can't appreciate any metal that doesn't owe its heritage to Napalm Death, that just speaks to the narrowness of your appreciation for music. I swear genre purists are the absolute worst.
@@FriendOfTrashPandas the fuck you guys on about? Because I don't appreciate this, it is a complete impossibility that I enjoy other stuff than wjat's on my profile? YOU have no idea what you're talking about.
"Tell me what you want to be... and I will set you free." I am currently going through the worst breakup of my life. Ghost was the band that brought us together. Mental health was what took them away. This song is speaking to me like no song has ever done. I am broken. Thank you Tobias for speaking to me.
Hey man, know you're not the only one. But I guess that it's better like this, all she always wanted was to be a pure, chaos, forever young spirit. I'm not putting my chains and care on someone who doesn't want it. Mr. Forge shurely don't know us, but man... this song is simply aa symphony pouring all love into darkness. That's what love would seems if was a melody.
Same, I used the religious part of it through my break up I was being manipulated emotionally and now my ex is telling me she is going to do everything bad to herself. Then I realized we were both toxic and manipulative emotionally throughout our years together
This song was released the day my cat died. A loyal friend for over 20 years. This song brings sadness and grief along with a very hopeful message. times will get better and the ones we lost along our journey called life will be with us forever, eventually waiting for us in a better place
My cat tiggah was born in 1999 so I'm dreading THAT day, it is getting closer as we all are, also not ready. So sorry for Ur loss. Go ghost got the feels bad.
Damn, sharing similar boats... 20 years sounds like an amazing run, and lots of love too. I've had my house rabbit since he was a kit. He turned 10 this year and starting to show signs of old age. Dreading it, but I know he's already reached the low estimate lifespan
This song hits different when you're sat on a field watching the sunset and you have your headphones on full blast as a warm evening wind runs through your hair
When i listen to this i see myself sitting on a beach in the night with my best friend and everytime i almost fall asleep 1 time it actually happend and it was 6am this song helped me❤️
I’m predicting this song is gonna be a hit, possibly featured on a movie or a tv show. But damn this song is fucking Beautiful it touch my soul had me in tears by the end, also Thank you Tobias for creating a Masterpiece
Both this song and Life Eternal are very beautiful songs. Both hit me hard emotionally as I've been dealing with the grief of losing my cat in 2020 and these songs have helped express how much love I had for my cat who was a big of my life for 15 years. Tobias Forge is a brilliant song writer and singer.
My cat is 13 years old and declining rapidly 😔 I don’t even know what to think about him passing Edit: he passed on April 13th, 2022. You know… I’m overjoyed. He is at complete peace, and his suffering is over… and so is mine, for him. Thank you, Oscar, for all the beautiful memories, and for shaping who I am for the rest of my life. @@brookwilson9217 WHOA, 20 years! That’s immense. You’re so blessed. I’m as grateful as ever for my 13 years with mine, and I tell you… he lived enough for 100!
This really does work as just a love song, but it works _best_ when you realize that the “love” in this love song is meant to be false. It’s conditional, and the condition is total devotion to someone (or something) that only cares about having power over you.
@@ffsf739 “This is about people promoting all of these values under the guise of being God-fearing and righteous while they practise none of it. It’s just for cash and power.”
Prequelle helped me to deal with the aftermath of my mum's death in 2016 and Impera will guide me through my dad's decline as he moved into a care home today. I'll be buying the album tomorrow.
Be sure to visit as often as you can. If you can bring him out for holidays and family gatherings do it. Don’t let his decline and the common “ I don’t want to see and remember him like this” thought turn into “ I wish I spent more time with him” thoughts. This song hits deeper than a freight train to a drunk driver. My girlfriend is suffering depression and I'm trying my best to help her even though its impossible. I love her and I want to set her free from her darken thoughts.
Keep on fighting with and for your girlfriend. You are a good person. May she find light and happiness again. I know she will be thankful for a boyfriend like you. All the best to you.
As another depression sufferer, I’m sure she appreciates it so much. I know I would appreciate that from a partner of mine. Keep fighting it with her. It’s tough, but beatable.
I also know depression. I lost my wife to cancer and went to a very dark place for a long time. Just being there for her is a great thing, it makes a difference, I know.
I am a 43 year old mother of 3 that drives a Subaru,I discovered Ghost about 6 months ago and now I’m a huge fan. Music is open to interpretation. Regardless of how you take this song,it is absolutely beautiful. Well done!!!
I’m 42 and a father of 3. I’ve been a rocker most of my life. I was aware of Ghost. I knew a few songs. Nothing I sought out. After Call Me Little Sunshine came out, and their live performances came through my feed, I thought it would be fun to see them live. So when they came through this year with SpiritBox (who my daughter LOVES)- I bought us tickets for her birthday. I never knew what I was missing out on. That changed my life… in a way VERY FEW things have. I went from just knowing who they are to ravenously consuming everything of theirs I could- I am so impatiently waiting for them to come back to the US for another tour.
I'm so happy that a group like a Ghost, creates masterpiece with their songs, still making music.. We are so hungry for this kind of music. Thank you very much for your effort and talent🙏
"We are so hungry for this kind of music" You're kidding me, right? this literally sounds like every other piece of garbage music that is released from the most mediocre artists you can think of today. There's literally not a single unique or revolutionary thing about this music. Just the fact that Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare are credited with co-writing and co-producing just shows how much mainstream garbage this is. Everything those losers has touched has turned straight into shit.
@@CuntLucifer Really? I'm kinda dissapointed that there are third parties outside of band that are involved in the writing...instantly makes me think of the likes of Bieber with ten people co-writing a song that has five words repeating over and over again. I mean sure this is not the case but kinda degrades the final product if you know what I mean.
It seems that the general consensus is that tears have been shed for this song. Same, same. Which is a good thing... It means you still have love in your heart and that your soul is alive.
@@user-nb4ne5mu8f I think it is great that they are political, since politicians and leaders of today are such fucking cynical hypocrites, gambling with our lives.

I concur 💯! I read somewhere it’s a harder song to pull off perfectly live and Tobias won’t settle for almost perfect. I’m thinking/hoping they’ll add it their set next tour cycle.
Made me cry. Reminded me of the loss of a dear friend just before the pandemic. She understood my darkness and helped me become who I wanted to be. I miss you Ma
My friend didn't die, but she is going through a lot. So am I. We had the some of the same issues. Haven't seen her since 2019. Her parents are very strict and forced her to go to an early college, meanwhile I stayed at a normal high school. We only were able to see each other during the summers since her parents didn't allow her to do anything when she had schoolwork. She even still has a bed time for some reason, even on nonschool days. Idk why. I got excited to see her, but then covid happened and we couldn't. Then her family got it, but her mom said we could plan something at the start of 2021 if they got better. We kept trying to make plans and she blew them off. My mom literally just asked if we could go out for lunch one day, and Jean said blunt "Noel doesn't do anything" or "She's too busy" and would just ignore anything else. Her mom ended up blocking me on Facebook, so I guess we are never seeing each other again. I love her so much and miss her so much. She is my best friend and I hope she gets out from under their thumbs someday. We can't even keep in touch because her parents take her phone. I remember a few years back being so happy about graduating because we could always see each other since we'd be out of school. Now that I'm almost 19, I see how that turned out. Also, even the last time we saw each other. As we were hugging goodbye that night, I started crying (I hid it enough and held it in enough so that nobody noticed) because I had a feeling that was gonna be the last time that summer. We only saw each other 3 times that summer, for less than the amount of hours in a day in total...I was so upset that it would be the last time that summer. If I had only knew it would be the last time...I wish I had let myself cry on her now.
It's hard to believe that others suffered by a loss, I'm sorry for your loss, it also reminded me the loss of my mom and sister, now I'm all alone but I'll continue with my life.

The amount of people i see in the comments saying things about how its "radio friendly" or "mainstream" are missing the point of music. So what if its not 100% unique?! Sorry to break it to you but there is no such thing as 100% original anything. I think songs like this are some of their best because it bridges the gap between heavy metal and pop which is what brought me to them in the first place. The song i discovered them off was Mary on a Cross. I think you just need to start listening with your heart and not your mind. Like music was always intended.
He Is, is amazing but this is too. Meliora is still my favorite recent Ghost album of the last three but I love the 80's feel of this album a lot. All my favorite bands are bands that can do heavy and soft songs equally. Smashing Pumpkins and H.I.M. are two examples.

Love this song!
"Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song."
-Tobias on cirice, and this one too it seems, I love how he touches on manipulation and indoctrination so subtly and pointedly, this song tells of the efforts of the narrator to isolate their subject, to make them dependant on them for all their needs, even warning them it's going to "seem" like coldness and suffering, and telling them they are going to "paint paradise" (a simulacra) and going to watch it dry (it can only go down from there) and manages to make it seem almost earnest and romantic, it's so damn clever

Thank you.

This really does work as just a love song, but it works _best_ when you realize that the “love” in this love song is meant to be false. It’s conditional, and the condition is total devotion to someone (or something) that only cares about having power over you.

It reminds me of what Motley Crue did with You´re All I Need. Considering how 80´s this album is, the inspiration could have come from there.
After Call Me Little Sunshine came out, and their live performances came through my feed, I thought it would be fun to see them live. So when they came through this year with SpiritBox (who my daughter LOVES)- I bought us tickets for her birthday. I never knew what I was missing out on. Made me cry. Reminded me of the loss of a dear friend just before the pandemic. She understood my darkness and helped me become who I wanted to be. I miss you Ma
I thought I was the only one…
I didn't even notice the lyrics were perfect for my situation with Noel.
"When the summer dies...severing the ties"

My dad and oldest sister had no chance... 😞
What a time to be alive!
Thank you, Ghost. ♡
My girlfriend passed away from cancer and this song describes exactly how i feel and how the memories come back
:/
I am so sorry for your loss
Sorry for your lose
I'm sory
this song, like every other song made by ghost, is absolutly fire. I have never heard a bad song from ghost, never.
I'm 30 seconds in and THIS, this is it. My new favorite Ghost song. Full body goosebumps instantly.
@@CuntLucifer Hi doll wasn't expecting you until tea time. Go gatekeep in all these other comments sharing the same sentiments that I am. In answer to your question, yes I'm aware. I went on a deep dive when I found them over 2 years ago, I also enjoy Tobias' other music. My favorite is allowed to change with each album. Have a hellish weekend luv! 🖤🖤
My girlfriend and I waited for this album to drop, we recently broke up so this song as well as Respite on the Spitalfields really strikes a chord in my heart
I can't stop listening! This is a masterpiece. It feels like Ghost just took me back at the heart of the 80's for some reason. Don't know if it only me, but the melancholy is giving me chills...
it aint just you. this entire album feels like an 80s tribute album. it's like a throwback. its amazingly well done
@@pancakecookiecrumbles Yes, very much indeed. Especially to 80's glam rock/metal. I could hear Iron Maiden, Rolling Stones, Journey, Aerosmith, and others in the songs. Filled me with immense emotions and lots of love since I grew up on that.
This song saved 80’s hair metal. There’s a reason people still listen to power ballads from 30 years ago. Cause they fucking slap, and this will usher in a whole new generation.
This is an absolute masterpiece! I had the immense pleasure of seeing ghost live back in September, and it was hands-down one of my top five favorite shows I’ve ever been to. I sang/ screamed along to every song!
Thank you for this!
I saw them in Trenton. Every moment of that concert was awesome!
This is one of the best Ghost songs ever!❤
I was abused verbally until 24 by my mother this helped me get up and start my life again. Thank you. I have ptsd and bpd and this made me feel not so alone
They won for best rock album at the American Music Awards thank goodness, they deserved to win.
Tobias if you see this please do not kill papa iv at the end of this song I am begging you on my knees sobbing sir
This song is an emotional masterpiece. The whole album is fabulous. Very glad I'm off to see them on 9th April!
Swear to fuck I'm dancing to this song at my wedding
I swear I am literally debating if I should have this at my wedding. Cause I really like it, it's beautiful
Reading the comments it's comforting to know I'm not the only one turning into an emotional sod just by hearing this song. My wife has no idea what's going on with me. How can you explain? This whole album is just a progression of highlights. I'm a fan since the first record but this one has completely blown me away! Chapeau!
I feel like my grandpa would’ve liked this song. I’ve played him a few Ghost songs before, and he liked a pretty good amount of them.
RIP. Wish you were here to listen to this with me ❤️
The ending part with everyone singing makes me so emotional and it's become my favorite part. It's like each part of someone singing. ( 4:17 )
As mush as i love the raw heavy lyrics with dark tones that Ghost has produced, i am a sucker for the slow melodic stuff like He is, Pro Memoria, and Life Eternal and this is my new favorite from them. This is definitely a hidden gem. I love the overlaying of the guitars and how it makes you sway. The lyrics, the sound, the way it make me feel is superb. You guys did it again, bravo
This whole album is a masterpiece, but this song especially is such a spiritual experience.
I love this album by ghost but this song has my heart 🥹🫶🏽 3:46
Never before, in all my years have I ever felt so much joy and sadness at the same time. This song as marked a new page in my life. I can't stop crying, filled to the brim with emotion.
Thank you Tobias for shaking the foundations of this humble listener and all on the same wave lenght as me.
I'm with you. I am so glad to see a revival in such masterpiece music as this... The complex sound and harmonies are so perfect. Need more of this in my life
This is hands down my FAVORITE Ghost song. May not be yours, but is most indefinitely their best song in my opinion.
My mom passed away In 2019 to a rare autoimmune disease and every time I listen to this song it brings back memories and reminds me she’s always there and it warms my heart ♥️
I know she’d love this song too
I cant stop listening to this band. Every song is insanely beautiful!!!
the chorus is sooooo beautiful in this song. Cant get enough of it
Just came across this the other day and it hits every feeling and emotion I have. Some times I'm just in awe when I listen, and some times I cry. But I absolutely love this song.
4:16 Elevates my soul into the stratosphere
Love this! New fan, I am 58 and cannot get enough of this band!
There is nothing quite like a 5am upload from GHOST !!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏻
