Thank you so much for making this video. It was clear and gave me the confidence to do this job. The previous owner of my 2016 Fusion had the headlights replaced by a local mechanic before I bought the car, but less than a year later one of them went out. (You know the guy touched the bulb while installing it.) This saved me at least $200 I was thinking I would never need to spend because the problem had been fixed.
Excellent, thorough guide. I was able to replace the light bulb myself for $17, the most car repair experience I have is changing a tire, changing oil, and changing transmission fluid
This video was so so helpful thank you for posting, I consider myself not mechanically inclined. But this was not hard at all. Only bad thing is I lost my 10mm socket down below and had to go buy a new one.
Thank you so much, this helped me a lot. Little bit of struggle for the first buld on driver side to put it back, but not a big deal. Once you replace the driver side, the passenger side would be a piece of cake. Just be careful for sharp edges of the frame while removing and installing the bulb.
Great video! In my experience I had to push from the top down on the bulb and wire harness. I did not have enought force in my hands so I used a flat head to push down. I was gentle enough not to break or strip any thing. Thanks again!

Ford didn't make this more complicated for no reason, the maker of this video made it more complicated for no reason. I just did this job without any tools at 10pm in complete darkness in 10 minutes all by feel. And I have shorter fatter fingers than this guy.
Just did this to my 2013 ford fusion. Only gave up once! Not bad! Key was finding a spot for 2 fingers from each hand to twist counter clock wise in the *CORRECT PART* of the blulb & insert piece. If you're trying to grab onto the plastic/glass part you're too far in with your fingers.
I agree, that was the tricky part and the one 10 mm bolt that requires an extension worked better on a handle that turns like a screwdriver rather than a socket handle, at least for me. Also there is a little tab you press down on to release the light bulb. I didn't realize that was there at first and the old bulb just wouldn't come off the socket. I almost never do car repairs and I'm looking forward to getting something else to drive later this year. Replacing the light bulbs and various air filters is WAY too complicated in the Ford Fusion and my kids have Kia and Hyundai cars... the process in those is just a trivial DIY. So thankful for channels like these.
Thanks from the 407. I ended up needing to take one more 10mm bolt off the side panel to gain just a bit more room for my hands to fit. Counter clockwise to remove, clockwise to replace. Your video gave me the confidence to do it myself.

@@reynavalencia9447 the trick was twisting the old bulb to loosen it. I think this is the hardest part. I used to have a 2011 Mercury Milan. I did changed the headlight on the driver’s side twice. I didn’t used any tools just my hands. I took out the air filter out the top and bottom to get to the headlight. I did changed both headlights in a 2015 Ford Escape a couple times. My very first car was a 1998 Ford Contour that I had to take out each light to changed the headlights by using a Phillips head screw driver. I did it twice on that car. My father wanted to helped me but, I got it under control. Luckily that I have small hands to reach in.
Bought some replacement bulbs and tried on my passenger light which was out. Took a while, as I figured out our fusion bulb was slightly different. Eventually got it out and was able to easily replace it. Now that I know how to do it, I don't have to pay $100s to Ford for something I can do for the cost of the light and 3 miles to Napa. :)
Question i replaced both headlights, but the drivers beam appears to illuminate to the left now. And the original light that was out worked for 4 days and it's out again. Any thoughts?
Consider becoming a channel memeber as a way to say thanks. It's a very small monthly fee but it means a great deal to me! Appreciate the feedback, glad I could help
I noticed my light was out last night and i got to say all the videos was about taking the bumper off and i seen your clip 1 time only and it was super easy!!!! Thank you!!! I did it in lees that 15mins
@The Driver Mod for real man, you helped out a lot of people. When I first saw the bumper video I was super discouraged and almost just took my car in. They were gonna charge me 150 to replace both headlights. Literally used the video yesterday and did it in like 5 mins haha
Thank you for posting this video! My passenger side light was out and using this method I replaced it pretty easily. Wanted to change out the driver's side too since they were both original. But I just couldn't get my hands in there far enough to get the bulb out. Oh well, I'll wait till it burns out before I'll try to take the bumper loose!
@@sevenlyons I almost gave up. The passenger side was easier for some reason but these original bulbs are cranked in there very tight. I ended up using an angled needle nose pliers to grab the thing and give it the business to get it moving. I guess I just got lucky, but before I set out on doing this, I had decided I was going to WIN and not have to go to the dealer, lol.
managed to get it out without removing anything but the dust cover using a large oil filter wrench. The curved wrench fit in their and I was able to push on the wiring harness to break it free - then rotate it 360 degrees and pull it out. Scraped up my knuckles but got it out. Now I just have to figure out how to get the new one in after I go to the store for a new bulb. Thanks for the tips and the inspiration.
I timed it. I don’t know anything about cars whatsoever and am a worthless mechanic. It took me 3 hours the other way where I removed the bumper and it took me 37 minutes using this method. I did several things wrong and it took me several attempts and it was 37 minutes total.
@@zenasslatton1809 agree that this video was a game changer. One other one for me was a unique video I found that helped me replace a spring inside a microwave door handle when the door wouldn't latch all of a sudden. Like this headlight, that was also a little design flaw that could have been avoided. RUclips has been a Godsend but it is frustrating to see other vehicles where doing stuff like this, such as changing cabin air filters is so trivial if they would just decide to make stuff easy in the design process.
We have the same fusion, year, color and everything and as I was acknowledging that I also noticed the crown service van! Worked for crown for 3 years as a CSS. Much love for my crown techs!

Took me two hours.. bloody hands back side. But I got it in, just guessing. When I was a kid it was two screws and a plug in. Wish electric air bikes would come out. Looks like some really super fast greased lighting fun
I’ve taken the whole front end off before to get to the high beams and fog lights so I wasn’t excited about this. Frankly this should only take 10 minutes per side and is very easy. Five of those minutes seems to be gently turning the bulb to try to find the notches for it to slide into lol. Only real thing to watch out for is avoiding touching the bulb with your skin. Thanks a bunch bro!

Thanks Anthony, did both sides today and went with the whiter light. 👍🏻
Nice! You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
Very helpful video. Replaced both lights myself just now and you made it simple. Thank you!!
You're very welcome. Appreciate the postive feedback letting everyone else know as well!
How long did the bulbs last?
They last about 3-4 years it seems. Not sure why
@@THEDriverMod_thank you for the feedback
Hell yeah dude never did any work on a car in my life and was able to bust this out. Thanks for the vid

Best video of the process so far, thank you
Thank you!
Other videos taking the whole front of the car off😂thank you for this!!
The owners manual for the 2016 Fusion calls for taking the nose off the car to be able to remove the entire headlight assembly to access the lamps.
Thank you so much for your help. The video was so clear and understanding it was amazing. I replaced both of my daughter’s headlights. Thank you 👍🏾
Thanks for the comment and feedback! Happy to help.
Thank you for the video@!!! Saved me 200 bucks and I was able to do it all by myself 🎉
Awesome! That's what we like to hear!
Question i replaced both headlights, but the drivers beam appears to illuminate to the left now. And the original light that was out worked for 4 days and it's out again. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the video, you saved me a ton of money! I appreciate it!
Consider becoming a channel memeber as a way to say thanks. It's a very small monthly fee but it means a great deal to me! Appreciate the feedback, glad I could help
Thanks for the video. My fat hands had a hard time with this and it took way longer than it should have but was able to do it myself.
Saved yourself quite a good bit of money so I'd say it was werth it
From this single mom's heart to you, a BIG THANK YOU! Even if I can't figure it out this video inspired me to try and was clear to watch.
Thank you for the kind words and feedback. I hope you are able to accomplish it yourself!
Total B.S. for a 2019 low beam.
I just reached in and did it. ✔️
It took some patience, but didn't take long at all.
Nice work. Patience is key!
Very helpful thank you it took me about 40 minutes.
@basajul not bad not bad, 40 minutes tonsave you several hundred dollars
I noticed my light was out last night and i got to say all the videos was about taking the bumper off and i seen your clip 1 time only and it was super easy!!!! Thank you!!! I did it in lees that 15mins
Thank you for the awesome, positive feed back!
@The Driver Mod for real man, you helped out a lot of people. When I first saw the bumper video I was super discouraged and almost just took my car in. They were gonna charge me 150 to replace both headlights. Literally used the video yesterday and did it in like 5 mins haha
That's awesome to hear man! I'm glad it's been a helpful video for soo many people!
@@johndamper2934I can almost hear the fz150 shoe cleaning guy .. " I just saved myself a hundred and fifty bucks" lol
@@rogerbussiii for real 😂😂
Thank you for posting this video! My passenger side light was out and using this method I replaced it pretty easily. Wanted to change out the driver's side too since they were both original. But I just couldn't get my hands in there far enough to get the bulb out. Oh well, I'll wait till it burns out before I'll try to take the bumper loose!
Same here. Passenger side was easy enough but the driver’s side was just about impossible to twist
yeah I could not get that driver side bulb out. Spent about an hour fiddling with it before I gave up
If I didn’t have skinny hands I probably would have not been able to do drivers side.
Thank you. Saved me some time and money. Thanks for sharing
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment and feedback. Happy to help
managed to get it out without removing anything but the dust cover using a large oil filter wrench.
Of course! Good job
I timed it. I don’t know anything about cars whatsoever and am a worthless mechanic. It took me 3 hours the other way where I removed the bumper and it took me 37 minutes using this method. I did several things wrong and it took me several attempts and it was 37 minutes total.
I liked and subscribed. This is the most helpful video I’ve ever come across in my life.
I appreciate the support, positive feedback and kind words!
Very nice and thank you! Been a tech with them for just over a year now
Thanks dude. That was way faster than taking the damn bumper off.
Thank you for this help. Two questions: which year is your vehicle and 6:30 which is that cord/wires purpose that’s touching the back of your hand
2015 and that is the cable for your hood latch
Yeah man thanks for sharing! Had no idea how to take the hood bump stop out! 1st video I watched SOLD!!!!!!
Awesome!!!
thanks. couldnt figure out the bumper and had to pay a shit ton to get my indicator bulb replaced. Now that the headlight went out im happy I can do it myself.
Just went out and I was able to pop out the old bulb so now I'm just waiting for my Amazon delivery
Easy day! Good job
@@THEDriverMod_ struggling with the last step. I get it seated into the housing but it won't seem to fully twist into place. Did you have to put a lot of pressure in order to fully twist it in?
just a shout out, used this and it worked just as shown. took less than half hour. gotta say, cut up my hands pretty good lol.... but I can not believe the amount of RUclips that say you have to remove the bumper,, so not true. thanks for the insight,, thumbs up from and ooooold guy lol.
Sorry about your hands but happy to hear you got it done and saved some money in the process
40 minutes for both lights. Thank you!
Not bad!! Nice
Thanks man for the tips got it done with only 2 busted knuckles lol thanks again
@@brianrhoden9158 chalk that up as a win!
This seems so much easier than taking off the bumper. I was dreading it!
Took me two hours.. bloody hands back side.
But I got it in, just guessing.
When I was a kid it was two screws and a plug in.
This one I needed a socket wrench three different screw drivers pull the plastic plugs, replace them seven.
Guy at the repair shop say5 $175 plus taxes includes the bulb.
Wish electric air bikes would come out.
Looks like some really super fast greased lighting fun
Thank you very much bcoz you saved lots of money. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the video. I did it all with a Leatherman. Wasn't easy but did it.

Thank you for this, big help! Need to get those H-11's for sure👍.
You got it👍
I’ve taken the whole front end off before to get to the high beams and fog lights so I wasn’t excited about this.
Frankly this should only take 10 minutes per side and is very easy. Five of those minutes seems to be gently turning the bulb to try to find the notches for it to slide into lol.
Only real thing to watch out for is avoiding touching the bulb with your skin. Thanks a bunch bro!
@ryand.3858 no problem! Happy it helped. Appreciate the feedback
Great! i really did not want to have to remove my bumper lol this should be much easier

Awesome tip for the people!! Appreciate it and I'm sure they will as well!
Which wrench and how did you angle it in?! Just spent 20 mins with my fingers and I’m desperate!

Idk how you fit your hands in there to do that I’ve been trying for the past 2 hours and just can’t rotate it to get it out
Try some angled, needle nose pliers
Yeah I can’t get my hands in there either geez . The passenger side bulb connector is twisted towards the passenger side or more to the center to come off ?
Thank you so much for this, saved so much money and it wasn’t that hard! I wonder if I could change the high beams like this because there’s no video of how to replace them without taking the bumper off. Or is that even possible?
I've never had to but I'm sure it's likely possible
