For some reason, this magazine was blocked at 5. Maybe SA put the wrong magazine in the box? I don't know why they did that since PA is not a mag restriction state. I've since removed the block and moved on with life. I'm enjoying the 20 round mags.

My Scout came with synthetic stock and rubber butt pad, and I find it to be a very soft shooter. By far my favorite rifle. The muzzle brake is actually very effective, and you might actually increase the recoil by adding a suppressor…IDK. Regardless, that’s a beautiful rifle, enjoy!
Oh, boy... I could tell you didn't know much about this rifle from the moment you started describing it, but you proved it when you thought it was a 5-round magazine... that is the standard 10-round magazine they ship with. I guess it makes it less troublesome when shipping it to places like California. No it does not come with a bipod, that's just one of the items you would have been issued in the military back then, together with things like a winter trigger, cleaning gear with combination tool, and a bayonet, and are therefore part of the reproduction Technical Manual. And the use of magazines was not incorporated into the M1A (A civilian version that came later), but into the M14... And several other things. Study it, it is a wonderful machine.

So, I did get this rifle; a couple of observations since shooting about 100 rounds thru it. For off-hand shooting, get one of the cloth slings (military surplus OD green). It makes a difference to stability while standing. I'm going to go at least a year with no optics; the iron sites are just that good. Take the time to properly site/verify the range and elevation numbers (10-ish for 100 yards). The standard rail starts to get really hot after about 20 shots. What you mount will have to take the heat. There is not much kick; due to the compensator, and well, let's just say it. This is a heavy rifle. That is the one dig. The sling really helps, and focus on good shooting positions (standing, prone, kneeling, sitting). There are some RUclips videos of Army films made in 1943 that teach the fundamentals of marksmanship, where they use the M1, which has the identical sites and similar profile. It's worth checking out. It's a great gun and I'm going hunting next month to check it out at range (with iron sites).

I am pretty sure that is a 10 round magazine that came with the gun. The five rounders are almost flush with the stock.

That 5 rd mag is a major turnoff. Nice rifle I like the walnut. I’ll be getting the model with the tritium insert on the front sight all black.
