I just bought my Springfield Armory Scout Squad a couple of months ago. Your 2 videos comparing the M1A Loaded, M1A Scout Squad, and the M1A SOCOM really helped with making my decision. I also watched a few others in did some reading before making my purchase. The Springfield Armory Scout Squad is an awesome firearm and might be the LAST rifle in my collection that I would sell. Thanks, davis0331!
This is very helpful, and I'm really wanting the Scout Squad. Today at a LGS, they didn't have the M1A, but they showed me the SIG 716i Tread Snakebite SE which is a very nice rifle, but it's just not the M1A. I had access to the M-14 many years ago, and I've always wanted one. Great video! Thanks and Blessings!
You are right on about the Scout Squad! l was looking at the Socom 16 inch barrel but decided on the 18 inch Scout! I'm so glad I did! It is wonderfully made rifle!
Good video! I have the scout but you describe both of these rifles well. I can hit at 300 yards with the irons and bullseye at 200. And I'm 55. If you ever want to go shooting let me know. I'm on the SW side of Chicago so I don't think I'm too far away.
Just bought a Rockola M14. I am looking forward to shooting it this week. Added a Brownells Selector Switch. Looks awesome! Also, bought an M6 Bayonet.
That's why I got the Scout. The loaded is awesome but when you need to be mobile yet still have power and the ability to accurately hit a target to 500 + yards with irons the Scout is the way to.
You can accurize a scout M1A too. Probably won't hit targets out to 1k yards but it'll knock the living hell out of targets at 600 at least , if you do your part. Great video.
Good video! Very informative. I looked hard at the M1A Loaded and SOCOM but finally got the Scout Squad in the FDE plastic stock. I'm glad I did, it's a great compromise. Like you, I bought an M14 wood stock which I really like but it weighs about 8 ounces more. I like the look of the flash hider but the muzzle brake that comes with the Scout is pretty good so I'm in no rush to swap it out. Really, you can't go wrong with any of them but it's best to handle each size if possible to help choose.
Everything you said was spot on. I absolutely love my M1A Loaded best handling rife I own. I'm going to get a scope for it eventually but yeah for a .308 it has very little recoil, I've shot commercial and NATO ammo through it and it eats it all just fine no hiccups or jams. Couldn't ask for a better gun. If I were to get another I might get the SOCOM. great video.
Indeed M1A's are beautiful rifles, timeless design, and yes hardly any recoil if any. They are a pleasure to shoot. Excellent video bud, keep up the great work.
"Thumbs up." I never cared for any of the short-barreled M1As. I'd probably opt to purchase another full length M-14 rifle; probably from LRB, to add to my standard M1A; I like them that much. I just don't like the idea of firing the powerful 7.62mm cartridge through a short barrel, where a good portion of its potential gets pissed out the muzzle early. If the full-length rifle feels too heavy for me one day, I'll just use one of my ARs instead.
Both are absolutely beautiful rifles I have a totally checked out so calm 16 I love the scout squad in the wall at Stock you can’t go wrong with either of these rifles
Better or Best can only be determined after a person defines there individual wants and needs for a given purpose. So if you think the Scout Squad rifle is better than the loaded, it's better than the loaded.
Haha, I understand. Just recently acquired a polymer stock scout squad after owning a loaded sitting in walnut for a couple years. The larger loaded shoots so good, but that scout seems much more nimble in the hands and also points faster for me than the loaded and shoots equally good. Won't want to part with either especially the loaded walnut because of the looks and history. There's just something about wood, steel, and gun smoke that seems so appealing. However if I had to choose one to fight with........Scout Squad Wins!
@@rondeezy2522 Willing to swap my never fired [ NOS ] walnut scout + some cash for a walnut standard M1a - built a Car 15 (727) with a Colt 6920 lower . Would also take 1100 cash for scout - a steal ( paid 2K ) . [Wartime vet with a service connected disability ]
I like the scout squad its a real nice battle rifle. I always wanted the m14. I went to a small store that sold military arms looking for a m1a the old timer showed me a few then a M1 rifle. He explained about the m1 and field stripped it. I had no idea what I was looking at. Anyway I took it with the understanding if there were any issues he would take it back. I still have it a real score. Got it for $375.00 and it's still spot on. its a 1945 Springfield original even the barrel . it must have spent its life in a arms room. At the time I was a young soldier. Next pay period I bought the M1a still have that as well wood stock. I retired in 2008 after 28 years. Started recreational shooting in 2011. There's so much new nice stuff out there.. I was thinking about the 14 in a synthetic stock but not now. Your rifles are real nice. Some say their dated. But they are the last of the real battle rifles. I have others but these are my favorite take care.
Looking to put together the same scout setup as you. Can you co witness the irons through the optic? I like shooting irons but also like the new style red dots. Thanks just subscribed to your channel. SF
Fully agree, Scout Squad is my favorite rifle, period. Yeah, ammo is cheaper for smaller guns, and in many situations an AR-15 is more practical... but if I had to have ONLY ONE rifle, it'd be the Scout Squad.
Its 2019 here so I doubt you will see this comment but maybe someone can answer. What is the most accurate bullet weight and brand for the squad? I found a heavy bullet 180 grains works best in my Ruger scout bolt gun and am thinking about buying a M1A Scout. I would like to use the same ammo in both rifles.
For best accuracy I found 165 grain match grade federal the most accurate out my rifle. Expensive, but my Squad loves it. My Ruger scout bolt gun prefers the heavy 180s.
Nice rifles. I have a couple questions, 1- have you shot them from a bench and is the loaded match noticeably more accurate? 2- are the flash suppressors permanently attached to the sight base or threaded so you can put whatever you want on there?
+Steve Bean The barrel is threaded and you can unscrew those mounts and put what you want on. But you might run into some issues with gas in face with a silencer.
I have a scout and that would be the last gun to go.... My son is a 0311 NCO and he hits bulls at 2 and 300 yards with the irons only... GREAT rifle!!! Rah....
Nice!! Have you gotten much "Slam Fire" out of any of those? The 1st SIA N.M. I had would slam if I installed the action into an older M14 stock w/Selector cut out, (Looks like one in the background). Nothin beats a .308 for 30/120m combat. I saw many Marines carrying M14's with ACOGs on em over in Iraq around 2004 👍
I'm wanting to get a M14. Ive looked at the Springfield and the Fulton armory rifle. I'm looking for the accurized model. Any pros and cons of either manufacturers?
Have all you listed above I finally bought a springfield socom 16 and love it more than the others! Only changed the stock to wood! Other than that I like it better than the scout or others
I have the scout squad. I have been told not to use grease in the cold weather because it may cause malfunctions. What's your alive, grease or gun oil in the winter
I had to make that decision at a gun shop just recently, shouldered both which made my decision easy. I got the Scout. If I had to run and gun, the Scout would definitely be handier.
Thanks for the video. I'm in the market for one and I couldn't pick one over the other because they are both sexy. I found a scout squad in flat dark earth so that's what I'm getting.
Hi, I'm about to buy a Scout Squad. I'm used to bolt actions w/much better (I hear) accuracy. That's the one worry I have w/this purchase. What kind of groups is yours getting? Thanks.
If you are going to put a scope on a M1A you better get the standard gun vs the short barrel SOCOM. The standard gun will spit those 150 gr bullets out about 300fps faster. Kind of important if you need a scope!
Tin Man muzzle velocity with 2 more inches is negligible. The sight radius has more of an effect. But even that is fairly minor. Your groups at over 300 yards may spread out double what they are.
Tin Man barrel length has NOTHING to do with accuracy. I literally mean nothing.... The way the barrel was MADE is the only factor for accuracy. Then it's the Rounds you use, and last but not least. The terrible shooter behind the gun is the real issue.
I have used the Perfecta as well along as ZQ1. They are both good fodder ammo. However, for about $.06 extra per round, you can get a new production German round from a company called Men. A fellow You Tuber, SGAMMO.COM has the best prices and shipping cost that I have found. The Men give accurate shots to 300 yards and beyond. All of my .308 shooting has been with a bolt rifle. I watched your video to help me decide on which semi-auto Springfield to buy. Going with the squad rifle. THANKS.

What kind of accuracy do you get?
@@johnwhite8894 John, George said he hunted deer in Wisconsin for thirty years with it so I assume it’s vey accurate.

I have both. Love both of mine! My Scout has the Burris Scout scope 2-7x with Warne QD rings.

I agree! for years I wondered why SA did not offer a shorter barrel.

Original Socom is the way to go!!! Accurate, Short and easy to handle. Did I mention VERY LOUD?
does the non-recoil issue also apply to M1As without synthetic stock (and what appears to be a sizeable butt pad, not included on walnut stock)?
Is the Half of a pound noticeable when comparing the wooden chassis with the one you currently have on them?
No it is not.

Yes it attaches to the barrel. You can remove and put on a USGI handguard.
