Waited and saved for two years to get my SOCOM 16!!! Every shooter has a preference, Every weapon is a Flavor!!!! And some us just like and enjoy more horsepower and torque in a small package. Semper Fi. 0311
I see the three versión are wonderfull , the Socom 16 is short rifle and very beatiful , but I prefer the Scout , I think is better the barril 18" it ' s had a few recoil and it was more accurate .
Excellent M1A family you've got there. I too own the Scout Squad and love it. Am thinking seriously about a Socom 16 too. Enjoy all 3 of your rifles, you're in an exclusive club. 😎👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I've wanted an M1A for decades and finally picked up a Scout a few years ago. Such a wonderful, simple, and durable rifle. Like the add says "bring enough gun".
A good friend tells me he was issued a Scout Squad as a DMR in Iraq. The Army bought alot of them new in the white box from Springfield. He says with the 18.5" barrel 700 yard shots are not an issue at all especially with low magnification. It works great.
As an old Vet who was in during the transition from M-14 to M-16 ,I can say that I wouldn't trade my Scout for any rifle out there. Tack driving son of a gun with irons, low recoil and easy to hump for old guys. Wish I had it 50 years ago.
I found a SOCOM M1A at a gander mtn. a couple months ago in the used rack for $1,300. It had no, and I mean no, visible indication that it had been fired at all. It also came with 4, 20 round mags and one 10 rounder that also had no marks on them. Absolutely amazing rifle. I have shot nothing but bulk ammo like M80C or Tulla ammo through it and it's maybe 2" groups on average. The occasional flyer makes the grouping spread a little more. It's not a "tack driver", but it's awesome none the less. I am getting an Archangel stock for it this week and I'm excited to see how that'll turn out. I have that stock on my R700 and I love it.
I saw the Socom 16 yesterday when i was picking up my AK,, got to tell you "LOVE at first SIght" thank you for the vid, good information on all 3 rifles bro 😎
Just now seeing THIS vid. Love the SA M1A’s. I have a Standard model I bought back in 2010 or so and adore that rifle. I didn’t have a choice of the different models that SA offers, only the Standard and have NO regrets. One of my favorite for sure and the only ‘.308’ I have, it’s one you SHOULD ‘pass down’, NOT sell. Shoots like a laser as the iron sights are THE BEST on any rifle ANYWHERE I believe and has certainly been my experience. On a personal note regarding the sights specifically: The 1st 3 rounds I fired out of mine after literally unboxing and CLEANING it were dead-on literal bullseye hits @ 100 yds. Even back then I couldn’t believe it. Well since, I’ve opted for and mounted a Sadlak “Airborne” steel scope mount (absolute excellence in engineering), added an older Bushnell 3-9X40 & an “Eagle” brand cheek rest/pad. I hunted with it this year (2019, Dec) and took a NICE 8 pt on our place. The ONLY slight ‘negative’ if you could call it a negative, is the weight. It is heavy, no doubt..and I only mean it from the standpoint of getting in & out of a small deer blind under actual hunting conditions...where deer are present everywhere in real time. The closest conditions that I can reproduce to ‘sniping’. It’s not a rifle you’d ever want to take on a still hunt or while stalking. I’m sure the ‘Loaded and National Match’ rifles are a tad better component/barrel-wise, but with what this particular rifle can do..I’m MORE than satisfied.
Grat review brother i enjoyed it. Question though what kind of accuracy are u getting out of the socom 16? I live in cali and sick of all the featureless rifle shit we have to go through and since the m1a type rifles are totally legal here im having a hard time deciding between the socom or the scout. I generally wont shoot past 300 yards, mostly 25-200 id say. Do u think the scout would be a little more reliable of a weapon? Have u had any issues or had to tweek anything on your socom? And would the blast of the socom be too much to loud for cqb get out of house gun? I would appreciate your input since u have shot and own both thank u
I put a Primary Arms 3-18x50 ffp ACSS HUD DMR reticle specifically for the 308 on my M1A standard model with a Sadlak steel mount and Aero Precision 1 piece rings. This is not a precision rifle, but a damn fine DMR! Great video, keep it up🇺🇸
Davis,, Can you link us to that vid or you tube on adding the AFG to the M1a? Ive looked several times and can not find it. Nice overview. I have a SOCOM 16 and absolutely love it. Ive done several improvements to it. I Polished the trigger parts and that significantly improved the trigger feel and pull weight. I added a ultimax M8 rail and a red dot optic. Please link to that AFG improvement if you could. Thank You
Loved your review! I see your video was posted 7 yrs ago. Im "sold" on getting an M1A, but cant decide which... Have you looked into the Bula 19" M21DMR? Close in length to the Scout but perhaps more accurate at longer range?
Very nice collection! I'm more of a precision bolt guy, but the M1A has always been one of my bucket list guns... finally had a good deal fall into my lap & snabbed a Loaded Archangel. Put an SWFA SS 10x42 on it, and it is bad-ass fun. Only thing I don't like about it is that I'm a reloader, and mine wants to fling the brass into the next zip code! And you're right about the range... I've got a few pretty nice bolt guns, but when that thing comes out of the bag, everyone wants to check it out.
I wanted one of these for years and went back and forth over which model to choose but ended up getting a SOCOM since I am more of a close quarters combat rifle kinda guy. I figure if I need to explain to the judge why I shot that guy at 200+ yards then I'm in trouble... lol.
Loved this video, davis0331! Thank YOU! You helped me make my decision which model to purchase. I went with the M1A Scout Squad. Now I have to sell my brand new MOD 10 SAVAGE ASHBURY 308WIN PRECISION. As Hickok45 would say, "Life is good!"
I wish I had money to own 3 M1A rifles. Currently I only have a Scout. I took it out to the range the day I bought it (5 years ago) and shot 300 yard 12 target steel targets and hit them every time while standing. Beautiful gun especially with a walnut stock. Re the sighting options... I would put your rail mount on the NM gun with along with the nicest scope you can afford. The scout was made for a long eye relief scope. I LOVE the Leatherwood scope LR scope on mine. Excellent scope and easy to use at close range. At long range you can still use the 8x and use the tack driving accuracy of the scout. As for the SOCOM 16 I would put a nice low profile red dot on it. Add the quad rail to it and add a light and back up pop up irons. Nice guns. #jealous.
U forgot about Mrgunsngear, he does an honest to goodness no frills review on everything, he doesn't pull and punches. Nice looking rifles, Ive always been partial to the 30-06 Garand, but those scouts and socoms are the way to go these days, thanks for sharing bud
I just bought a SOCOM 16 used and so far it's been a bit of a disappointment. I don't have access to a 200 yard range, and at 100 yards it shoots 7"-8" above point of aim with the rear sight bottomed out. I just swapped out the factory sights for a National Match front sight post and a GI rear aperture, which I hope will give me a balance between a good tight sight picture and getting enough light to not get tunnel vision. We'll see if the tighter rear sight helps, but I'm not all that sure about the NM front sight post, as it looks shorter than the factory one. If that makes the elevation worse then I may have to go back to the factory front sight and hold low, which is a bit frustrating for a $1400 rifle.
Great m1a content! I have a Socom 16 with a black stock. Where did you find the different colored stocks? I would like to have a green one and, maybe, one of the others to switch out! Yes, Hickok45 has a couple of great Socom 16 vids and he HAS cost me much money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video man! I was still deciding between the S16 and the Scout and you really sold me when you said all around or multipurpose M1A. Thank you for your honesty, stay dangerous. 🏴☠️🐀
I got one of the socom2 full length rail (hard to find) with a black stock. All said and done @ the time was $2500. If I ever got a scout I’d want to put it in a green stock too. I took the bottom section of the VLTOR rail off for now. Just a timeless rifle. I love the look of the muzzle breaks on both of the guns (scout/socom).
I would go black synthetic because of good bad weather rifle. I have both Loaded and Scout in black synthetic. Springfield uses real good synthetic stocks.
it took me a while to save up for it but I highly recommend the trijicon 2.5-12.5 accupoint scope. when you consider that most long range shooters use fixed 10 power scopes, this one will do everything you want it to on a 308. I had a 4-16 on my loaded originally but I went to the 2.5-12.5 and I love it. the glass is clear, it's tough, the tritium/fiber optic reticle is clear and unobtrusive, and it is super versatile. I have it on my loaded model currently and I couldn't recommend it higher. the arms 18 is my mount if you were curious.
I'm still an M1A wanna be and I sure appreciate your comment on the Trijicon. I have the ACOG on my AR and love it but hadn't even considered the one you recommended for an M1A! ...It's kind'a like saving up for 2 rifles!!
Davis0331 how did you get that grip on your socom 16? I just bought the scout squad and the one thing I don’t like about it, there is nowhere to put my hand so my wrist doesn’t sit awkward and the rifle sits into my shoulder. Having an issue with that; also, do you know if it’s possible to attach a bolt cover on this gun similar to the Ruger Mini lineup?
I was in the same boat and just now ended up deciding on the standard synthetic model with the 22 inch barrel. I like the look of all the M1a models but I have mainly carbine length rifles and wanted a change
Nice video! I am trying to make up my mind on the scout or the socom? Why the scout for you and not the socom as your favorite? Spending $1,700 or so on rifle is not cheap! Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Not gonna lie...watched this video yesterday, after non stop thinking of buying the Socom 16!! I then go to hickock 45.... and what do you know, now I’m waiting for my m1a scout to arrive to my local store!!!! Yippie!!!! Wife’s pissed!!!! Yippie!!!!! 😀
I went with the Scout , I Love it!! I would love to have all 3 Nice. I have an M1 Garand it is a 1943 with a 1953 barrel. These are part of Our History and I'm honored to own them
I've been debating on the scout or socom. I've decided the scout. I have plenty of "get out of the house" but recently started doing long range with friends. I love the look, especially that it's doesn't look like an AR platform.
Great looking rifles I'm looking to get one myself really like your scout Squad. Did you say that you changed the socom stock out on the Scout squad one. Or is that something that available that they can do.
That optic is WAAAAAAY HIGH! How do you shoot it? Do you use a cheek riser? Doesn't look like you can even get a chin weld with that puppy! M1A's are so hard to outfit with optics... :-(
As a fellow "Springfield Armory" M1A shooter, the first thing I found out is that not all M1A's are made equal. Among the Springfield rifles alone, money buys accuracy. Some Springfield's do not come equipped with "unitized" gas cylinder assemblies, heavy barrels, etc. , the more accurate rifles seem to start at the National Match grade models and up. I own a "loaded" also, model #9226. Shooting my rifle in unmodified OEM configuration i.e. iron sights at 100 yards the groups I shot came in at 6-7 inches from a bench rested position... no bags. The modifying began. With my 54 year old eyes (I wear tri-focal lens) , first things added were a Sadlak scope mount, an SWFA side focus fixed 10x power MRAD scope on Vortex 30mm rings and a Bradley adjustable cheekrest. The next range sessions, though improved, surprisingly didn't yield much better results regardless of off the shelf ammo used. I shot Winchester target 147 grn. , ZQ1 147 grn. , Aguila 147 grn. and Tulammo steel cased 147 grn. , all yielding 10 round groups of 5 - 5 3/4 inches in size. I took that consistency as a positive thing. Than I found "Tony Ben's" RUclips channel. This is when I started learning about accurizing the M1A / M14 rifle platform. So the next things modified, which btw should have come first (live and learn) were to change out the "Op Rod Spring Guide" and "Unitize" the front band and gas cylinder... I used a Sadlak guide and a gas cylinder shim kit from Fulton Armory (cost for both items 64.00 + sh) honestly it's your best bang for the buck spent toward accuracy imho. Back to the range and the results were evident. With the cheaper ammo groups came down in size to 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 inch range at 100 yards. I also decided to sling some better quality lead down range this go round in the form of Federal Fusion 168 grn. , the Fusion is a hunting round and yielded 10 round groups of 2 - 2 3/4 inches at 100 yards. This was satisfying, and still knowing that more can be done for improvement I'm happy for now.
Lmao. "Hickok45 has probably cost us thousands of dollars". So true.
I want Hickok45's range. That would be a dream for me.
David Reid doing firearm reviews and making us wanna buy them. It was just a joke.
ZFlyingVLover LOL, I just came from there, and your probably right.
he also hikkups on koks btw hence his name, hiccup on 45 coks
yes but I do not mind at all love his guns reviews
"I don't want to pick a 2nd because I don't want to hurt one of their feelings for being last..." That was A W E S O M E
Waited and saved for two years to get my SOCOM 16!!!

I laughed out loud at the comment about hickok . So fucking true
Love the green stock. Makes it look modern yet maintains that classic look without being too old school with the walnut.
As an old Vet who was in during the transition from M-14 to M-16 ,I can say that I wouldn't trade my Scout for any rifle out there. Tack driving son of a gun with irons, low recoil and easy to hump for old guys. Wish I had it 50 years ago.
Bill Gaines thanks for your service and I'm gonna pick up a scout model for my do all gun 🇺🇸
Great video ! didn’t know if I wanted the loaded or the scout but now I know for sure that I want a scout in green,
THANKS !
I'm getting the scout squad in O.D. green because of this video brother. lol. Semper Fi.

I wonder if you bought mine lol
Great video. I had an M14 during Viet Nam, albeit stationed in Germany. I will eventually buy the Scout Squad in Walnut . Brings back memories.
Thanks for your service Len Nassi!
Thank you for your service Len.
It is a great rifle and you WILL love it.I have two of them
thanks for the video I was on the fence about the two Scout or the socom and I think I'll get the scout now.
claymontg GOOD CHOICE. THAT'S MY FAVORITE TOO!
I just got one a month ago
I appreciate this review. I'm buying an M1A this Wednesday, and your comparison of the 3 cleared up some struggle of choice. So full length it is.
Great video, just bought a scout squad a few days ago, can't wait to pick it up!
And I want that green stock now.
perfect solution... just buy them all. outstanding!
Haha! Yeah I dont have 6 grand to buy them all! Great rifle. Long relief scope good to go!
He's a silly old man firing a gun. Stupid laugh he has, be serious.
I saw the Socom 16 yesterday when i was picking up my AK,, got to tell you "LOVE at first SIght" thank you for the vid, good information on all 3 rifles bro 😎
I've had a Scout for 12 years now, 1.5-5x Leupold illuminated reticle. Perfection.
The only scope to put on the Socom is the 4x16x50. FFP with ACSS reticle for 308 HD glass with ranging reticle from primary Arms.
Your next M1A...the Springfield Armory "Tanker" .
I'll just say that's the first M1A I have on order. Can't wait till she gets here... :D
@@cybershanks Lucky ass lol
Good video. What is your opinion about pistol grip on the guns?
Just now seeing THIS vid. Love the SA M1A’s. I have a Standard model I bought back in 2010 or so and adore that rifle. I didn’t have a choice of the different models that SA offers, only the Standard and have NO regrets. "but I'm not a Sub Minute of Angle shooter", funny as hell.
Honesty is best
I bought the Scout Squad and I love it. Up to 400 yards it is great with steel sights. It is convenient to carry and packs a punch.
That’s a beautiful trio of rifles!!!! Great video!
What did you use to put the angled forgrip on? I agree keep the scout and sell off the rest 😁
I cant find the video for the AFG rail installation, can you help me out?
NO justification needed! I own the 16 and the scout. Plan on getting the loaded by the end of the year. Nice rifles and great video.
Beautiful!! I have the Scout in black and put a Burris 2-7x Scout scope with Warne QD rings on the rail.
I always liked the look of the walnut stock. Any reason you didn't purchase any in walnut?
I like the grip attachment. I looked for that "modernizing your m1a" vid but cant find it. You got a link?
Grat review brother i enjoyed it. Question though what kind of accuracy are u getting out of the socom 16? I put a Primary Arms 3-18x50 ffp ACSS HUD DMR reticle specifically for the 308 on my M1A standard model with a Sadlak steel mount and Aero Precision 1 piece rings. This is not a precision rifle, but a damn fine DMR! Great video, keep it up🇺🇸

Loved your review!
I see your video was posted 7 yrs ago.
Im "sold" on getting an M1A, but cant decide which...
Have you looked into the Bula 19" M21DMR? Close in length to the Scout but perhaps more accurate at longer range?
Great video. I am trying to deduce which one to get seeing all 3 side by side helps.
Need instructions on mounting that AFG!!
I'd like to know also
Very nice collection!
And the unitized front gas assembly, which the loaded does not have.
Lmao the Hickok reference. So true
Dude that's so badass.
I came here for the socom 16, but i stayed and subbed for the merica.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
I wish I had money to own 3 M1A rifles. Currently I only have a Scout. I took it out to the range the day I bought it (5 years ago) and shot 300 yard 12 target steel targets and hit them every time while standing. Beautiful gun especially with a walnut stock.

Nice guns. #jealous.
Definitely purchasing it as a Christmas present to myself... or maybe my get out of 2020 present lol
U forgot about Mrgunsngear, he does an honest to goodness no frills review on everything, he doesn't pull and punches. Nice looking rifles, Ive always been partial to the 30-06 Garand, but those scouts and socoms are the way to go these days, thanks for sharing bud
How did u put the frg on the socom?? I can’t find the video where u mention how to do it :(
I just bought a SOCOM 16 used and so far it's been a bit of a disappointment. I don't have access to a 200 yard range, and at 100 yards it shoots 7"-8" above point of aim with the rear sight bottomed out. Adjust your front sight post at zeroing not the elevation on the rear. Once adjusted use rear to fine tune.
Would u go.hunting with the socom16?
Can you share the link or do a video on how to install the AFG?
Great video man! I was still deciding between the S16 and the Scout and you really sold me when you said all around or multipurpose M1A. Thank you for your honesty, stay dangerous. 🏴☠️🐀
How did add the angled fore-grip to SOCOM 16. I cant find the video you referenced.
I got one of the socom2 full length rail (hard to find) with a black stock. All said and done @ the time was $2500. If I ever got a scout I’d want to put it in a green stock too. I took the bottom section of the VLTOR rail off for now. Just a timeless rifle. I love the look of the muzzle breaks on both of the guns (scout/socom).
on the scout squad with that LPVO - that seems high does it affect your cheek weld
Good review. would you recommend synthetic stocks over wood? If so, why?
I would go black synthetic because of good bad weather rifle. I have both Loaded and Scout in black synthetic. Springfield uses real good synthetic stocks.
good stuff devil, definitely a fan of the Scout Squad its the best of both worlds
I love the socom 16..
How to get all three? To be honest, I like them all.
it took me a while to save up for it but I highly recommend the trijicon 2.5-12.5 accupoint scope. when you consider that most long range shooters use fixed 10 power scopes, this one will do everything you want it to on a 308. I had a 4-16 on my loaded originally but I went to the 2.5-12.5 and I love it. the glass is clear, it's tough, the tritium/fiber optic reticle is clear and unobtrusive, and it is super versatile. I have it on my loaded model currently and I couldn't recommend it higher. the arms 18 is my mount if you were curious.
m. oo I 0
I'm still an M1A wanna be and I sure appreciate your comment on the Trijicon. I have the ACOG on my AR and love it but hadn't even considered the one you recommended for an M1A! ...It's kind'a like saving up for 2 rifles!!
If you had to keep only 2, which two would they be?
Did the socom come with the pic rail on the bottom of the hand guard? If not, how did you mount the afg?
Davis0331 how did you get that grip on your socom 16? I just bought the scout squad and the one thing I don’t like about it, there is nowhere to put my hand so my wrist doesn’t sit awkward and the rifle sits into my shoulder. Having an issue with that; also, do you know if it’s possible to attach a bolt cover on this gun similar to the Ruger Mini lineup?
I’m about to purchase my first scout somehow RUclips places this on my feed ty for the review I’m sold on the socom 16
How did you install the mag pull on that rifleM
How did you mount the grip on the socom 16
What's the the mountain rail you have on the middle one?
Well I know where my tax return is going. Lmao
So what optic did you go with? I put a vortex viper PST 2 on the loaded and absolutely love it
Great video man, hey how did you attach that maglul AFG to the bottom of your socom stock? I need that! Please help!
So how big of an accuracy difference is there between the 3?
I love the M1A . I have a scout squad , wood and am torn between getting the full size or SOCOM . Like you said they are not cheap .
I was in the same boat and just now ended up deciding on the standard synthetic model with the 22 inch barrel. I like the look of all the M1a models but I have mainly carbine length rifles and wanted a change
Why couldn't you just link the video of the guy adding the foregrip. Don't see using that search.
It's a compensator to help keep the muzzle down because of the short barrel you'll notice the holes are only on the top t
I was looking for a scout squad and no one had them. I did find a Tanker. Got it. No regrets.
Damn i want an M1A now. Leaning towards the full length rifle.
What scope mount are you using?
I definitely don't think you lose 280 FPS with the 18 inch scout squad. Probably more like 150.
I have the Scout squad and the full size loaded. The leatherwood scope is a great setup.
Can you still use the open sights on the scout even with the scope and mount on there ? Thanks
finally a good comparison. Any advice on "sniper" built for the scout model. Is one able to a attach a foregrip ?
Scout squad with a side folding stock? Fit in a pack?
Still fighting with myself over AR10 and a M14, I have always wanted the M14, but the AR can swap out uppers for different caliber rounds.
could you please suggest a gun with bolt action almost same quality like M1A16 socom .308 ....
Yippie!!!!! 😀
I'm still struggling to decide Socom or Scout, for all purpose use. I'm struggling to see the differences
Go scout
What's the price for that secob?
I went with the Scout , I Love it!! I would love to have all 3 Nice. I have an M1 Garand it is a 1943 with a 1953 barrel. These are part of Our History and I'm honored to own them
Own all three. Love all three.
I treasure my SOCOM 16. Absolute perfection for sub-100 foot distance threat killing (which most of your SHTF killing will need to be done)
What's the model of your burris scope mount?
Most Greatest Rifle Comparison. You hit all three dream guns. Can you tell me if Socom 16 is legal in California?
