The Tavor rifle is no longer the main battle rifle of the IDF - variants of the M16 / M4 are numerically the main battle rifles with versions of the US M4 including those locally produced by Emtan and IWI (the Arad an M4 type rifle) are as of 2022 in service with both regular & reserve units. The Tavor is in much reduced service with front line IDF combat formations (both standing army and reserve units) due to production cost considerations vis a vis locally made variants of the M4 by Emtan & IWI and a change of tactics in Infantry squad composition with the introduction of 2 Negev machine guns to a squad in place of just one and greater use of the underbarrel M203 grenade launcher with is used on M16 and M4 type rifles.
