- When Guns.com asked me to review an M1A rifle, I thought, “Oh boy, one of my ‘bucket list’ dream rifles!” Nothing against AR-15-type rifles, but if I want to reach out to 600 yards and beyond, the .308 Winchester cartridge is my choice. Not your run-of-the-mill M1A, this SOCOM 16 from Springfield Armory is meant to fill any need from competition to home defense, law enforcement, and hunting.

@@boondocker7964 How many people have you shot with 5.56x45 to know people won't die being shot by a 5.56x45 because I've used my AR 15 in 223 to kill deer - Black bears and 2 Yukon moose for winter meat and I also take the AR 15 along in Caribou hunts then shot dead Caribou.
maybe you shouldn't be parrot mouthing all the same garbage the 223 can't even kill squirrels.
308 will not shoot through an engine block.
It could go through the side of the water jacket and maybe into a cylinder and that is all.

I have this model with a vortex SPARC II, no magnification. I got it sighted at 200yrds. It's my bug out rifle. Great rifle and power, soft recoil. Good for urban work.I also just got springfields Echelon. Awesome pistol and now part of my bug out kit. Great stuff from Springfield Armory.
If Santa had a Christmas list. This gun would be on it.

I have one, why? 308 and solid steel, that’s durability and power. This is a “you know it’s going to work” rifle. And I’ll bet my life on it. Yes I own several ar platforms from SBR’s to 16”. In fact, I sold my M5 for this. After all, the 7.62 ar’s are not military spec, but M14’s are.
Military spec means dilly squat.
I build custom AR 10 upper in 6-mm - 284 win --- 6.5x50 Jap ---- 250 -3000 Savage -- 300 Savage - 350 win then go to all of the WSM magnum cartridges up to the AR 10 I use for hunting in 375 -300 WSM.
None of my AR rifles are commonly done with offline bought parts because to make the WSM magnums the barrels are Pac Nor super match and bolts of custom made.

I lusted after the M1A for a LONG time. Of all my guns, my M1A Scout would be the very last one I would give up. At some point, I plan to acquire a socom and a full-length M-14 clone.

This is one on my to get list . I have a few Garand’s but I like the compactness .
I really like the boom of that .308 cartridge. Tha rifle is nice seems like a very versatile and deadly tool.

Give me an M-14, or give me my walking papers! I see an M-14 hiding underneath that camo. i don't see any M-1 Garand, I see M-14! And I did boot camp with the M-14, and ITR, with the M-1 Garand, and they gave us as much 30-06, as we wanted to shoot at ITR.

The garand is great even today. An awesome rifle. Went to a cmp match and all those garand shooters had the concrete slab shaking.
@@unclegene5372 It was great when I went through ITR at Geiger, liked it a lot, the Viets used the M-1, M-1 carbine, .30 cal browning light MG, Thompson, BAR, was still great then, still great now.
The addition of an EBR trigger shoe will make shooting with that pistol grip so much better... consider putting it a light weight Blackfeather RS chassis stock system when imports resume later this year.

@@sd01 Yeah honestly thats what I was thinking..like we already have HCAR and EBR... what was the need of it..? And btw if. You don't mind explaining it to me.. How come HCAR is completley different than this one of EBR..? Like all 3 of them have piston stroke system right..?

I the M1A is a great rifle but in the AR 10 I have built mine in 375 -300 WSM for match the 375 H&H magnum.
I build and sell AR 10 uppers in WSM magnum cartridges.

Who ever asked..... obviously you've never seen an Alaskan Brown. Most locals here go with bigger than 308.
10mm, .44 mag, 12 ga. , & 45-70. 45-70 is the go to for big bear small to medium elephant. 308 is good for small to med bear but notta big one
@@scottballin3798 With the exception of 45-70 for close encounters, the 308 is far more powerful than a 10mm or 44 magnum. I really do not know how you came up with that one, and with a M1A that is semi auto with 20 rounds the weapon is formidable against any bear for self-defense. Please, look up the ballistics. Even though bears have been hunted in Alaska with a 308 for decades there are higher calibers but remember this is a semi auto with 20 rounds instead of a bolt action rifle. It is a formidable weapon against anything in north America.
The M1A is a fantastic made rifle but for me I can't change to another cartridge as I can for any AR 15 or AR 10.

My DPMS DOES THE EXACT. SAME. THING....Also, this old woman is a shade too excited....
Considered one of these before I bought my scar, but good luck mounting ANYTHING to this thing, scope mounts outside of scout style or red dot are a no go because the mounts made for the top of the action are all trash, gonna have to use duct tape for a light, good luck suppressing it….modernizing it is a pain if not impossible to do reliably, and it’s heavy for its size….that being said, I still want one 😂 just iron sights and a sling lol something about that back to the basics battle rifle vibe, this is America’s AK ✌️
True, the rifle was not designed with optics and other accessories in mind, but it’s doable. Also, you can buy three M1As for the price of a SCAR. The SCAR also has a reputation for destroying optic electronics. Great rifle nonetheless, my brother has one and it’s pretty sweet. However, I like the “handiness” of a traditional stock. I find the profile of pistol-gripped long guns cumbersome.
