    Love my m1a models. I have the scout and the socom II. I have ar platforms, but they feel really small to me. The m1a, or m14, just fits me better. Im just one guy living in the country, and wont be going into battle and lugging a bunch of equipment around, so the weight isnt an issue for me. Most i may ever have to battle is a pack of coyotes trying to eat my chickens. Which really can be handled with a 22 lr

    SEI makes a threaded barrel sleeve size of their flash suppressor, which has 5/8x24 on the outside for mounting cans. Also DC fs are available for their cans maybe surefire too. This is Easy to replace if you want to change the setup.

    The addition of an EBR trigger shoe will make shooting with that pistol grip so much better... consider putting it a light weight Blackfeather RS chassis stock system when imports resume later this year.

    I have a Socom and I absolutely love it! It's heavy though so I've been considering switching the nice cherrywood stock out for an EBR Mod 0 chassis. This was an awesome video and gave me a lot of ideas for it.

      The EBR stock is also quite heavy. There is nothing light when it comes to an M1A. I tried the Arcgangel stock and that is pretty good except all the weight is forward so humping around with it gets tedious after a while.

      @@rauldiaz5315 The mod stock isn't much lighter than the wooden stock huh? Well that's quite disappointing to hear. I was hoping an EBR mod would make it at least a pound lighter and augment the cool factor somewhat.

      @@jebbroham1776 Check out Garand thumb video which he goes in detail on it. My unit switched out our M-14 wooden stocks to the EBR stock and really didn't like the weight. It is an accurate stock but the armorer has to do it with experience or your accuracy is shit as well as if you clean it and take the stock off for any reason your back to square 1 on accuracy. They were our DMR rifle/ sniper spotter weapons and were good for that for sure.

    Hows the accuracy with that mount clamped around the middle of the barrel? Bad bad idea there but hey they did name their company after the US armory in Springfield Mass. so they could take advantage of the notoriety of the M14/M1A and it's design origin.

    What did you do to take the heat off of your optic?? It's practically bolted to the barrel.
    I had a SA Tanker model. I had to remove the rail and cover it with a full heat shroud. It cooked a Bushnell holosight one day at the range. After that, I remodeled it into an open sight range rifle. I removed the rail and put a normal heat shroud on it, then installed a NM rear sight with shrouded aperture. I did a few other things to it before selling it. Rested, that rifle could could put a cloverleaf on paper at 150 yards with open sights. Later, I recut the stock to fit my hands and checkered the grip and foregrip in a wrap around pattern.
    It's one of the few firearms I've had over the years that I fully regret selling. Maybe one day the owner will sell it back to me. I hope he's reading. If you have it, you know. Black cherry stain. Red stained controls and lettering. Right-hand only grip. Vortex flash hider. Maybe one day.

    • @JeremyShoots2A
      @JeremyShoots2A  11 месяцев назад

      Interestingly I have never had any issues with too much heat affecting my optics. I've run red dots, LPVOs and high powered scopes without issue.
      The M1A is a beautiful platform, truly one of my all time favorite rifles is my Mk14 Mod 0 clone. I'll hold onto that rifle until I pass it down to my kiddos. Glad to hear you have similar fond experiences with the platform, hope you can get that one or another like it some day!

    • @RonnieStanley-tc6vi
      @RonnieStanley-tc6vi 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@JeremyShoots2A . I'm actually surprised considering that it is just a block of aluminium clamped around the barrel. When I originally bought my rifle used, even used it was $1100, it had a Tasco ProPoint on it. The first time I took it out, it melted the rubber overmould off of it. Twice, I burned myself on the rail itself even after I stopped using an optic.
      It is the one thing I have never liked about the modernized rifles.

      @@MountaintravelerEddie . What I'm saying is you take a 20 pound rifle loaded and the modernized stock, scope, rings, sling, and bipod add an extra ten pounds to it. Being fit has nothing to do with anything. I'm 48, live in the Appalachians, and bike 10 miles thought the mountains twice a week. I was in the Army. And, it means nothing to the extra ten pounds. All of the tacticool crap doesn't make it any more tactical.
      This is about an over weighted rifle, not a person's ability to carry it. And, I'm not not critical of the rifle. If anything, I'm jaded!

      @@RonnieStanley-tc6vi hey Ronnie, it’s Eddie. My Mk-39 is 16.5 pounds, my M-21 is around 12.7 pounds (synthetic stock) the M14 DMR I have weighs around 14 pounds (yes it has a selector switch). This is just the standard weights of a big cartridge rifle. It’s a semi-auto, so you need the rigidity of the fiberglass stock at least, the wood just warps too much.
      I did the AT back in 96’, so I know you’re near the trail. Right now (12/3/2023) we have many examples of REAL life or death action as close as our RUclips screen. Just look at the soldiers now fighting for their lives in Ukraine and Gaza and watch the news for other conflicts around the world. I have yet to see any Ukrainians with fancy rred dot gadgets or Israelis with that kind of crap. I saw Israelis with 40 year old Colt carbines with the old fiberglas handguards and one with an aluminum commando sliding stock, well worn. I am sure there are more. THere's nothing wrong with the M1A juat as it is. If the average fellow out there wants to LIVE through the coming travails, the FIRST thing that he needs to do is call on his own combat experience. Failing that, just rent another movie and continue the fantasy. Nine pound rifle, another three pounds of crap to hang on it. Oh yes, and don't forget to tape a few pairs of magazines together.

    First off the M-14 was Obsolete before it was even adopted. It's the pinicle of the M-1 Garand design. It was the solution that The Government arsenal came up with based on the "Last War" head up the ass mentality. This is why it's the shortest serving Rifle in US history. The AR-10 and FN-FAL were way better rifles. I wasted a lot of years on M-1 Garand's, M-1A's,M-14's and Ruger Mini-14's. Can you do it? Sure if you want to spend a lot of money on a heavy obsolete rifle. Honestly it's just not worth doing. Mine sits in the back of the Gun Safe and only comes out for bragging rights because that's what it is good at. Especially when you can build a really nice AR-10 with a lightweight 16" barrel for under $600 and the manual of arms is the same as the AR-15. The M-14 is best left as a foot note in US government head up the ass weapons history.
