Im the owner of the blown Springfield M1A scout that was mentioned. Springfield also replaced my rifle and everything just as described. They really are a phenominal company, they did not have to do this considering the apparent fault being on ZSR. Great big thanks to Anthony for getting me in contact with Springfield. Thanks for the video update!

ZSR got noticed right away when it showed up in the US roughly 10-15 yrs ago. I bought a quantity to test, (glad I didn't buy a case). I had problems with it immediately. The worst powder fouling I've seen in a factory cartridge, which is saying something as .308 has been my main cartridge since 1973.
Erratic velocities, erratic sticky extraction and the rifles felt "different". By that I mean I can feel the vibration difference especially in an AR style, they feel like they're going to blow. Reminds me of a nasty Thoroughbred I had who'd suddenly tense up his back (arch)while galloping, which was a prelude to bucking. Feels like sitting on a powder keg next to a campfire.
I had the same sensations from Hornady Superformance in a DPMS G2 .308. I don't like ammo that's on the razor's edge of "safe" just for 150 fps more.
Turks seem to like high pressure ammo. Their 8x57 surplus from the 1940s/50s was always hot. I never had a batch that seemed mild. In the past 50 years there's been some very shaky surplus get imported, like machinegun only to horrible quality (Pakistan, India, Mexico).
From my experience if you have a questionable cartridge....don't push your luck and keep shooting it. The odds will catch up to you.

Here’s a story about Springfield from years ago. I purchased a new m1 garand from them years ago when they were making them in .308. I had to send it back to them 3 times due to short recoil. Each time they were good to deal with. But after getting it back after the third time and still having the same problem. I was a little upset. I called and explained the situation. I said I want to talk to the head of the company. They connected me in seconds, and I know it was him. I told him my story. Explained at the time I didn’t make a lot of money, and could not afford a gun that didn’t work. I said I either wanted a full refund,or I wanted a GI standard m1a. I then sent the garand back. A short time later I received a delivery from Springfield armory. It was a brand new fully glass bedded national match at no extra charge. I was stunned to say the least. This was back in late 80s. It’s nice to know that they are still a standup company.

Springfield Armory is a class act, in spite of their Illinois controversy from a few years ago. I had a brand new Springfield Armory, TRP 1911 that had FTE issues on the first magazine of ammo fired in it. Springfield took the gun back on their dime, tuned and repaired it and had it back to me within 2 weeks of sending it to them. The gun has been 100% flawless since.

many years ago i received a monetary award for exceptional service from the us army rocket and laser research labs. Instead of blowing it on alcohol and strippers, i went to my local dealer and purchased a used M1a Springfield. Later at home, i discovered it was a national match!!! WHAT??? Even later, about a year, there was a Springfield recall on the M1a, so i sent mine back. Within only about 3weeks, here comes a shipment to me from Springfield. At home and opening the box, all i got back from my original gun was the receiver. ALLLLLLL else was BRAND NEW stock, sling, and alllll metal parts, all stamped national match!! A NEW NATION MATCH M 1 A!!!! What luck!! Thank you Springfield!!! A lifetime customer for sure!! And it shoots reeallly well!!!

Same thing happened to my M1A Standard Loaded. I sent the gun back to Springfield and they determined it was an overloaded cartridge. The cartridge company denied any responsibility but did agree to take the ammo back. Springfield Armory said it wasn’t their responsibility and I 100% agreed but they sent me a new M1A totally at their expense. I am a Springfield Armory fanboy for life.

I purchased a pre-ban standard M1A they said was built in the 80s. It had hammer follow when function testing after I field stripped and cleaned it. I didn’t take the trigger group apart, just a basic field strip. I contacted them and explained the issue, told them I wasn’t the original owner and they said no problem, send it to us. They sent an RMA, and fixed it in about 3 weeks time. They replaced the bolt, hammer, as they were recalled, and deburred the trigger guard. They sent it back in a new soft case. Out of the box the hammer follow was fixed when dry cycling it. I haven’t taken it apart again or shot it yet, but the point of the story is that Springfield will take care of you if things need fixing. I paid for nothing.

    Cheers to Springfield Armory!
They made a political mistake a few years ago. But they soon realized it and changed their 8:10 policy.
They could have easily said 'Bad Ammo Not our fault. So No replacement!
But they went the extra mile and did the right thing.
As an aside this is why manufacturers will tell you your warranty does not cover your hand loaded ammunition.
Working at a Gun store I have seen several guns damaged by customers who made mistakes reloading.
One blew up a M1 .30 Carbine by using handgun ball powder. I asked him to bring in his reloading manual and powder. This confirmed it was user error. The failure looked very similar to your rifle.
I had another customer who loaded his 22-250 ammo way to hot. He thought he knew that the maximum load in the manual was not hot enough.
Luckily the only thing that happened was he could not open the bolt action rifle.
My gunsmith confirmed that it was way over pressure!
This seems to be more common with pistol calibers that were developed in the black powder era. The .45 Colt Long and .44 WCF (44-40) are easily double charged if you are not vigilant.
Trail Boss powder is designed for these cartridges. It takes up more volume to help prevent double charges.
If you are starting out reloading. Please get some good how to manuals!
    Thanks for the uodates

Wow!!! First of all, I’m glad no one was injured by this incident. I’m a long time 7.62x51 shooter, hand reloader. I have never had a problem with anything close to that level of pressure in a case. It had to be loaded with an extreme amount of the wrong powder. I’m impressed with Springfield’s Customer Service, and their quality. Great video and thank you for sharing. Please keep us posted on the outcome by the ammunition company.

I am currently employed at a local gun shop in San Antonio, Texas . As of 2015 my yearly average of selling Springfields is around 5 to 6 hundred a year. They don't come back to our store for common issues or repairs like other brands. And for good reason. Its a very good brand. I own 6 Springfields and the only thing I have had done is put night sights on some of them. On the very few that I have seen for repairs, Springfield Armory has stood by their word.

Now knowing that Springfield is much the same way, makes me want to go out and get an M1A like I've wanted for over a decade now. I'm stoked to see you had a happy outcome, and that all these other distributors are stepping up when ZSR is still hiding under the sheets. Great job, Springfield! It's encouraging to see them take significant action, despite it seemingly not being their responsibility. The issue of low-quality ammunition causing firearm malfunctions seems to be growing more common. Given the strict regulations in this industry and the challenges in obtaining insurance, I'm curious if there's a deliberate oversight by regulatory bodies, possibly hoping that incidents involving this ammunition will lead to harm among the general shooting community and cast them in a bad light."

So the company NOT at fault.. Springfield..stood tall and went above and beyond by replacing a rifle they didn't have to, and the company AT fault is incommunicado. Bravo to Springfield! Now lawyer up and put the screws to the ammo company. Nothing on earth pisses me off worse than being ignored by somebody that's harmed me. Glad you got a new rifle 😀.

True Shot is my local. I guess from now on I should be buying from them. I've bought from battle hawk in the past, not anymore after hearing they aren't taking the ammo back.

I purchased my Ammo from Zinc Point Manufacturing. They now appear to be out of business.
I have a completely different lot #, but am still very hesitant to use it in my rifles; a SCAR 117S and a homebuilt PSAS AR-10. I have 600 rounds. It was labelled simply SAR, with the same picture on the box and in small print inside the box: ZSR. Lot #52.
I also have some 9mm under a different name that was manufactured by ZSR. I am very hesitant about shooting any of it at all.
    Made in Turkey. No Bueno.

First thank goodness your friend was not hurt. Springfield Armory is obviously a standup company, I have owned a TRP, Professional, and a M1A. Never a problem with any fd them. I will be buying more from them. ZSR is the exact opposite. I will avoid them like the plague.

Just my thoughts on Springfield. I bought the m1a loaded precision and had issues out of the box. The receiver wasn’t milled correctly and the bolt wouldn’t hold open without an empty magazine. I was also having issues with the bolt locking closed with a live round in the chamber that couldn’t be fired. Springfield took the rifle back through my FFL and pushed it to the front of the line and fixed everything. I had it back in less than 2 weeks and it runs flawlessly. Say what you will about some things they’ve done in the past but their customer service is on point.

That is the best marketing Springfield could ever do, by backing up their product even though it wasn't their fault

My friend purchased some of this ammo, it was not lot 15, not sure what lot it was. When fired in his bolt action rifle, he could not open the bolt. We had to pry the action open. This happened three times. After that he did not fire any more. This was in a box marked as ZSR American Sniper Range 7.62x51 M80 NATO Ammo 149 Grain Match Grade with a photo of Chris Kyle on the box. It said Chris Kyle brand American sniper ammunition. The case head said ZSR 22 7.62x51. I would stay away from this ammo. The primer was very flat and the ejector left a shinny spot on the case head. Both signs of high pressure. The place he purchased it from in CT gave him his money back.

ZSR needs to be banned from sale. Lose an eye, lose a life. Failure in home defense and you lose your families lives. FANTASTIC that Springfield Armory did what they didn't have to do. I've wanted one of these rifles. Helps me make the decision to purchase one.
