Thanks again for checking this out Sohum!! Keen to see your reaction to The Doll People. Then I’ll have to send you more.. because she has many excellent songs. ❤❤❤
Beautiful reaction! You have so many good insights! ❤ thanks for doing this. The song is amazing with all its layers and the video to go with it is so raw and captivating. Incredible.
I see this differently. I see it as a tug between two lovers. He can't commit, so be pulls her in and discards her at whim. She has so much complexity and the dynamic could be anything. But it twists and turns and never settles, because he won't allow it to settle.
“I could be anything “ she sings at the end. To me that reminds me of the history (when she sings remember, remember, remember) of women who, in most societies, have lived under the rule of men and have been forced to adapt to what men want them to be. Especially apparent in Asian and African countries maybe. But also here in the Western world, women have been expected to be submissive and always do what the husband wants or desires. It wasn’t long ago. And women have had to conform to men’s rules to survive. To not be burned at the stake, or labelled as wh*res. “I could be anything” and she pictures this in a grotesque way, a woman who is bent, soaked, tired, broken, carries the whole family’s weight on her back…
This is the best description I can find which sums up the meaning of this song to Sofia.. although it can, of course, be interpreted many ways. The song uses vivid metaphors to illustrate this battle: the stage and the audience (“the ache in your leg’s backstage”) become a force as powerful as love itself, exerting control and demanding attention. The narrator seems torn between these two masters, both of which require a submission of sorts, but knows that in the end the dream is bigger. The stage, representing the pursuit of artistic fulfillment, brings exhaustion, but it’s also where the narrator feels a sense of purpose and agency. The man, in contrast, may embody a more conventional form of love, but not one that risks overshadowing the artist’s true passion. The “bet” ultimately feels like a symbol of the high stakes of pursuing a dream, where both love and success come with costs, and the narrator must choose who or what will rule her world.
@@SohumI interpreted this as some abusers don’t know that their actions are abusive. Usually this happens to men who grew up in a family where the father abused the mother. It’s normal for them, so therefore the child carries that on into his adult life. “I could be a kiss, I could be a hit, let me know if you ever figure out the difference” And some abusers never figure out the difference. It’s a sad but overwhelming reality.
Oh one last thing. Your comments at the end made me think of an Aussie comedian I’d love to show you. Are you open to non-music reactions? The downside is they tend to be longer videos (10-25 mins) so I recognise that might not be doable on the channel.
I'm not opposed, I wanted to weave my way into other reactions slowly, so I'll have to think about it. Video length couuuld be an issue with my limited time/PC storage space
Hi Sohumm, l do problems 🤫 1. Dónde repetías " oohh my god, my god, my god, Beautiful the Angels 😂🤣😂 y eran cisnes. Me reí mucho 4. Fatimah
Important piece of information: She’s 19. How on earth can someone be this wise, creative and talented at such a ridiculously young age!!
19?!?!

I believe that she is bearing the burden of a pregnant belly on her back. Make of that what you will. ❤
ooooh that makes sense, i almost commented and said that it looked like a pregnant back, but that really clarifies things
I interpreted the “I could be a kiss, I could be a hit..” as being affection/violence. As in hitting someone. But I could be wrong!
a hit also could be something positive? i could be a superstar, something like that...
