I don't know what the best way to submit a request is so I just put it here:
Johnny Gioeli (did a lot with Axel Rudi Pell) has such a unique voice and his effortless vibrato at every power level and register just amazes me - see for example: ruclips.net/video/T7LCCiFWZXY/видео.html
I never understood how exactly he's able to do what he does and I'd love to hear your thoughts on his technique.

"That's what she's doing but way better" I love this. Its even better considering she was practically self taught doing covers growing up. And I think that's what makes Ado such an incredible singer in that she never learned the "do's and do nots" of singing and just had the complete freedom of singing what she wanted. I look forward to what she becomes later after she grows up and matures more and improve her talent considering she will soon be celebrating her 21st birthday.

I completely agree with you, but I must add that she sang and recorded in her closet. I bet many people start off like that, but it feels funny and awesome to me that she has gone from being an Utaite in her closet with not that big of an audience if you compare it to what she's become and after her debut, she's become world famous and everyone can appreciate her talent and hard work on a much larger scale.

This piece was written by B'z, the best selling rock duo that's celebrating their 35th anniversary this year. You mention how "oceanic" the piece is, which is fitting because it's the theme song for an upcoming movie that mostly takes place in a submarine, which the music video also mildly alludes to.
Crime and Punishment was a piece Ado covered, initially written and performed by Ringo Sheena, who is one of the best selling artists in the late 90's to early 2000's. Sheena wrote "missing" for Ado. Ado also covered a J-pop song from the 80's at her live tour that ended a month back.
Ado has a deep love for Vocaloid music, which is what God-ish is, and many of her songs, including Sho, are produced by Vocaloid producers. Not to mention that the 7 songs she sang for One Piece Film RED were each composed by 7 different artists with 7 VERY different styles.
It goes without saying as to how talented Ado is, but I feel that the freedom that she has to manipulate her voice in so many ways is why so many artists and producers, new and old, are lining up to write music for her.

Ado has nailed every style she's touched so far. I was totally not expecting to hear an 80's style rock ballad with B'z instrumentals. Crazy to think how early in her career she still is

She does have some more songs in this kind of style in her repertoire, two of them are from the One Piece Film Red "The World's continuation" and "Where the wind blows". Both very sentimental and amazingly beautiful pieces.
Then there is Himawari, a quite recent song of hers that also fulfills the genre of emotional but more in a happy and hopeful way.
And then there are all the amazing pop and rock bangers she's put out over the past 2 and a half years and all of her insane covers before that, which most of them were completely recorded and edited by herself in her closet without special equipment or anything of the sort, before she even turned 18.

She said in an interview that she has always been an insecure person, but when it came to singing she has always been very comfortable.
Another vocalist from Japan that I loved that you did an analysis of is Shigin singer Yuko Suzuhana from the Wagakki band. Aria of life had been a good start

Its hilarious, in Dignity it feels like she is sending you to heaven with this 80s ballad while in Crime and Punishment shes sending you to hell and making you feel despair (especially the campanella live version).

Ado has said that the delivery she does goes in hand with the lyrics, most of the time I don't know what she says but only hearing you can understand the suffering, fun or any other emotion she wants you to feel. I recommend the song Gira Gira, and if you can put subtitles you'll realize how the singing goes for emotional moments in Lyrics.

Two personal favorites of mine from Ado are "Odo" and "Himawari." You are very aware of her range but these even further show Ados skill, one fills me with energy and one makes me bitterly happy. Really beautiful. They do have english subtitles if you are interested, although since it is a different language it can distract on a first listen.

Aside from the One Piece film Red's songs from Ado I think 'Freedom', 'Rebellion', and 'Eien No Akuruhi' are some I think would be fun to break down. Honestly though she has too much nice and unique stuff that spans across so many genres

  • @nuthinghead659

I think the best thing abt Ado for the purpose of your channel as long as you're looking for suggestions is that she still has a fairly small discography, so basically everything released after her first album Kyougen I would say is both worth looking at as the best of what shes sung and released so far as well as as a manageable amount of songs that still cover an absolutely incredible range of styles.
Saying that, I think you've already covered most of that range well with the songs you've reviewed (mixed rock, pop, ballad) and the rest of her recent releases also fit pretty well into those categories in my opinion. She also covers songs from a space called Vocaloid which I don't know if you're familiar with, which can basically be all of the above but also carry a unique style due to the originals being written exclusively for voice synths (God-is is a Vocaloid song.)
If you're interested in some of her best known work, she recorded an 8 song soundtrack for One Piece Film Red (One Piece being arguably the most popular franchise in Japan, this was a huge deal) that shows a great range of vocal styles of which I think there's definitely still more for you to hear for the purpose of analysis. That's my hard recommendation, and I think you'd like listening to it very much even if you didn't make any videos on it!
Thanks so much for the great content as always,

I don't know much English, but it was fun to see it with an easy-to-understand explanation. Mr. Ad is wonderful at expressing the emotions of words! In past videos, she seems to be very good at singing songs with strong negative emotions, such as Bocca della Verita and Gila Gila. The way of singing varies depending on the song, and the songs that make you feel interesting are 7 songs of One Piece, which are very interesting!

There's one thing that's important to know for your Godish analysis that you're about to do. It's that it wasn't (and basically can't be, at least properly) sung in one take. She used a whole bunch of different takes and layered them together in order to sing the song. It still demonstrates the types of voices she can make, but many of the transitions are just humanly impossible.

  • @fishblasting89

Really love the energy and passion you bring into your analysis of the techniques of all the different singers and musicians you've covered - especially the ones whom you don't understand what they're singing but understand how they're singing! Being able to hear you take small sections of every song you hear and vocally break down its components really illustrates how skilled you are at your craft, not mentioning it's super cool you can nail the notes of a song you just heard with practiced ease!
A singer I think you'd also be blown away with in a similar vein to the works of Ado would be the singer "Hoshimachi Suisei". I'd suggest listening to her song "Stellar Stellar" either on the Channel 'The First Take' for a purely acoustic presentation of her vocal talent (The First Take channel's also a goldmine of content from a lot of Japan's great and popular singers), or alternatively you can try hearing 'Stellar Stellar' on her channel in its original studio quality

I think this song had a nostalgic vibe, and rightfully so, as the song was provided by a legendary rock duo that has been active since the 80s. If you keep your interest in Japanese music, one day you will meet them, because they have always held the number one position in total CD sales in Japan.
Ado's impression is totally different from song to song, but I feel that this is because she prioritizes making the song as good as it can be, rather than self-expression.
Your analysis is always outstanding! I am curious how you will rate legendary singers like Hibari Misora and Koji Tamaki. There are many great singers in Japan too, but their singing ability is of a different dimension. In particular, I have never seen such vocalization as that of Hibari Misora. She was active from a very young age, maybe about 9 years old, singing enka, traditional Japanese music. She chose enka because the adults around her encouraged her to, but she really wanted to do jazz, and in her later years she also sang jazz in English. If you search for her name, you will find her singing just before her death, when she had difficulty even standing up. It is very moving, but you should also listen to her singing in her prime.
Koji Tamaki is an older man, but he is famous as "the best singer in Japan." He can sing any genre of music, but his ballads are especially wonderful and will make you cry even if you don't understand the words.

Personally, I recommend "Ai Sansan" by Hibari Misora and "Ikanaide" by Koji Tamaki.

I would highly recommend checking out some of her live performances! I believe the only one available on her RUclips right now is "Odo" and "New Genesis" along with other fan uploads. Some people have mixed opinions about her voice after hearing her live because you can really hear some of her weak points as a live performer but I love hearing them because it really shows how much potential she has. A lot of the imperfections that come out of her live performances makes me feel more confident in learning more as a singer because it shows how free she is as a singer to really get to that level of control.

The only one people criticize is odo but that was her 24th performance in that day, her songs are insnaley difficult and she moves around so much, they're insane if they think she won't run out of breath more frequently after all that

If your enjoying Ado, I must recommend you check out some vocaloid songs! Ado is a very talented utaite, which is someone who is known for covering vocaloid songs (although she's obviously doing her own stuff as well). Vocaloid would be an interesting thing to analyze I think since it's a vocal synth software, where producers can use these voice banks to create vocals for their music. Ado has worked with a lot of these producers (Giga, Teniwoha, and Syudou being jsut some of them) and it's a very large community since it's brimming with variety and creativity. It became popular since anyone with an interest in creating music, but either couldn't or didn't want to use their voices could instead use these vocaloids instead (it's not AI though, the producers have to tune the vocals and it's prerecorded from a real person's voice). Since you've checked out Ado's song "Show" and enjoyed it, I recommend checking out some of that producer's, Giga's, other work. Songs from him I really enjoy are Bring it On, CH4NGE, Ready Steady, and Hibikase. He also does occasionally sing himself, and one song I'd recommend if you want to hear his voice is G4L!

Really interesting analysis as always :) I doubt I'll ever be able to analyze singing so deeply... I can tell she's amazing, but more straightforward, powerful vocals and music get to me more after all.
It seems I won't be getting an answer about Son Jin Wook from you either, I guess you're to busy... That's understandable.
Still it's so frustrating, I'd really like to know some objective opinion about his technique. I' can't tell myself as I'm not a singer and know almost nothing about singing and also I can't be objective because I fell in love with his voice on the first ...hear? :) I don't know where to ask.

Ado is a talent that you end up with when you are obsessed with musing & singing. Since an early age.
Like you heard with her other tracks, she does whatever she wants.
Using singing techniques, you'd expect from different genres of music.
Generally, you'd think of Ado as a pop singer, yet she literally uses vocal fry thay would fit metal & rock PERFECTLY in some of her songs.
On the other hand, here I could hear some operatic influence used in a very subtle way.
