    FYI Do you know you can use "Freezer paper" instead of a pallet to save $$$

    I have some of these. I bought them to color and then add water to paint backgrounds in coloring books, but I couldn’t get a handle on them. So I snapped mine in half and softened them, cut them up, and pushed the pieces into a box shaped watercolor palette. This way I used them as watercolors. I got much more use out of them as a watercolors. These started my watercolor journey.

      Awesome ! That's a great way to use them . More like a gouache . Some watercolor painters bring a chunk of the white Neocolor 2 in a half pan with them out in their watercolor tins . Instead of bringing a tube of white gouache .

      @@nicolemartinart5819 the colors I own, when they are diluted with sufficient water, produce non-granulating transparent colors. It was very satisfying practicing watercoloring using my DIY palette. I think in stick pastel form a skilled person can work wonders with Neocolor II, but I’m not that skilled person! 😆

    I bought a teeny little 15-colour tin of these and so far I'm in love, they're great to work with! But I also use inktense pencils and whatnot fairly often so I may be biased whoops

    Thank you so much for your very informative video. I have 40 neo2. I have 2 questions?? First can u recommend a black pigment marker for out line that is waterproof.
    #2 do you recommend the neo1 or have you tried them?

    • @nicolemartinart5819
      @nicolemartinart5819  Год назад +2

      For a black pigment marker that's lightfast and archival quality I recommend the micron pens by pigma . They are fabulous and you can get them in any size you need. As for the neocolor1 I think they are great for a wax pastel and have a lot of craft uses as well. They have a very similar texture except they are not water soluble. My friend uses them for encaustic and card making. She loves that they add shading to some of her more 3D elements and she can still go over with watercolor but they won't smudge or budge. Hope this helps and feel free to ask anything else. 🙂

    I heated mine in the microwave, but for some reason, they are very chalky and cracky after drying, so I am worried that I might have damaged the piments....

    • @nicolemartinart5819
      @nicolemartinart5819  Год назад +3

      Um... I don't know who told you to put them in the microwave but that's absolutely the wrong thing to do . I would also suggest you in the future to never heat any fine art materials because some pigments will release toxic gas ( Prussian blue will release toxic hydrogen cyanide gas when heated ) and melting of acrylics or other materials can release poisonous fumes .

    Mungyo's are better and a fraction of the price. Good review, but would have been better if you showed how the product works in an actual drawing. How they layer, how they interact with other media, hint hunt, video idea lol.

    • @nicolemartinart5819
      @nicolemartinart5819  Год назад +4

      Lol 😂 thanks for that subtle hint. Honestly I didn't want to spend too much time on a piece of finished artwork because I'm disappointed with the lightfastness. I did do some simple sketch's in my sketchbook ( I wasn't confident enough to share them ) and I do like em ... But I think they are over hyped honestly. But don't worry . My next review is on the mission Gold Watercolor and I have 2 finished pieces of artwork to share ( and I filmed them as a demo for the review .)

      The more I learn about these, the more I also suspect they're overhyped. It's nice to see someone else say it. It seems like everything they do can be accomplished better, with better lightfastness and at lower cost by other mediums.

    Do these expire or have to be used quickly? I know some pastels kind of age over time.

    The one way you can get away with using these professionally is if you were to sell prints made with archival inks on 100% cotton paper and just don't sell the original.
