Angela, I love, love, love your Midnight Quilt Show. I tell everyone I can about them. I have been piecing quilts , and hand quilting for about 35 years, but only machine quilting for about a year. Your videos are my biggest inspiration. I am always repeating your mantra, "Finished is better than perfect." It's because of your videos that I have become obsessed with machine quilting. I'm also borrowing your husband's family tradition of making a quilt for someone in the family each Christmas. This year it's my stepson and his partner. Thanks again for your fabulous, inspiring videos.

I started watching this video and became mesmerized as always. About a third of the way through it I realized I had forgotten all about my lemon and orange peels simmering away in their sugar syrup out in my kitchen! I actually had to pause the video so I could go and check on them. I gave them a stir and decided they were fine, so I got to watch the rest of the video. I need to make this quilt AND practice my machine quilting. But first I need to get those candied peels tossed in sugar, dried and used in some German Lebkuchen. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Angela!
Your quilts are gorgeous and your videos are fun to watch. Ive only quilted a few quilts by hand. It takes me forever to finish but I couldn't use a sewing machine if my life depended on it. I own a sewing machine but every time I get the nerve up to try again it turns into a train wreck real quick. Has anyone else out there tried but just couldn't get the hang of using a machine?
Oh my goodness!! Angela you are a genius. Thank you for this pattern. I received a gift of precut strips that were cut with the salvage. They should have been returned but the person who gifted them to me isn’t a quilter and didn’t understand what I was saying about them being cut wrong. Now I have a use for them!

I have watched you many times over and I still enjoy each session. Tha nks for the free pattern. I got it.

Angela! Thank you so much for pointing out that you can, occasionally, see your bobbin thread on the top. I’ve been making myself batcrap crazy trying to get my FMQ perfect so I don’t get that. I like to match my bobbin thread to my backing, but I would rather NOT see bobbin thread on the top. Thanks again!
I would love to see what the quilting looks like when you get to the middle of the quilt. I have a hard time bunching my quilt because the neck of my machine isn’t as big as yours! Any tips?
I started to use a black sharpie on one of my quilts...then decided, who cares if the bobbin thread peeks through....kind of like teeny, tiny polka dots😊. This quilt would be great for one of your quilting challenges, ...all that scary negative space to conquer.
I saw that someone already asked about this, but I will ask again, because I have searched the internet, youtube and what feels like a million other platforms for answers. Tensionproblems, breaking thread, skipping stitches etc. and the problems doesn't go away after new needle, new thread, rethreading the machine and those kind of fixes. You make it look so easy and I think you are kind of brilliant at what you do so perhaps you have an answer for me.
helena wiloboken I recently read that a bad scratch on the bobbin can cause thread problems. Maybe you should check? I have no clue how that would happen but maybe the needle was bent and scratched it? Try a bigger needle maybe. I’ve found that my machine likes glide for top thread but not bottom thread. Also if you’re using cotton, try polyester thread and see if that changes anything. Good luck

Tks again Angela & Merry Christmas
Love watching you. I am horrible at machine quilting great with quilt tops. I know you love the quilting part but could you please do a quilt as you go quilt. That seems to be the easiest for me. Would love to see what you could come up with.
Thank you for sharing so many fun and easy methods! My question is, do you ever do longarm quilting how-to videos? And if you do, where can I access them? I just recently set mine up and there are no classes within an easy drive of my home.
Angela, I so hope you are able to obtain the ability to sell those gloves in your shop. I CAN’T WAIT to have a pair!!! Love the tutorial as always!! Thank you!!!
Your videos cover a lot of ground. Have you done a video on tension problems and thread nesting? Your constant theme about not being perfect is very good. We tend to think only a perfect quilt will look good, but quilts are like children and husbands: they’re darn cute but never perfect.
Brain Freeze my first sewing machine had huge tension issues, mainly it was because I kept trying to use the low quality thread that was given to me with the machine. Better quality thread and increase the thread length should help. And a through de-linting of your machine can’t hurt either.
Aargh, what to do when the pattern is not available? Perhaps there is a time limit on the link to the pattern but it is a really cool pattern and inspiration for a college student. I will have to get creative and think this pattern over. Love the shows in the mean time.
For people scared of starting quilting- don't feel like you have to start out with crazy free motion designs. You can start out with simple straight line quilting with a walking foot. As you get comfortable with that, you can progress to slightly more complicated designs. There's SO MUCH you can do with a walking foot. Check out Jacquie Gering and her book WALK. She's also got several Craftsy videos (BluPrint, now) where she walks you through straight line quilting designs.
Hi Angela, thanks for your wisdom on quilting! I would like to know how to ajuste the tension on the machine when I’m quilting. It always has those “eye lashes “ in the back when I try to free motion quilt!
When you offer the Regi quiting gloves on your site, please include measurements (width at largest part of palm, length of fingers) to help with ordering the correct size!
hi Angela! I've been a silent watcher of these midnight quilt shoes for quite a while now... you make it all look so easy anf fun, even I got into it, and love it!!! I've made a few baby quilts anf I'm aching to get to start a big quilt, cuz... you know... I only need so and so many baby quilts. the only thing that keeping me back is I only have a small standard Singer sewing machine, and works for quilting small quilts but doing anything big would be a pain to get through the neck! what sewing machine is this one in the video, or which one would you Recommend that could do a good job for free motion quilting bigger quilts? for a beginner....thats kinda on a budget? thanks in advance! big fan of yours :D
Beautiful quilting as always. Really made the most of that horrid grey. I hate grey. Yes, I meant to use such a strong word. Grey and brown are not allowed in my quilts. Scrappy and happy colors are my world.
I just love all your quilting videos and use the patterns and tips that you create and suggest. I'm curious where you get those awesome quilting gloves?
Do you have a video about how to probably start and stop with machine quilting? Like how do you secure your quilting when you start and then secure it when you break thread? Thanks!
If you're doing edge-to-edge designs, you don't need to secure your thread. When you bind your quilt it'll lock in those other thread ends. If you stop in the middle of the quilt, you can knot your threads and bury the tails. There's tons of videos on burying your tails if you search for them. I'd recommend not starting/stopping in the middle if you can help it but obviously some designs call for it.
I don't think Angela actually buries her threads (I don't either). When starting a new line of quilting (like if you have to change bobbins in the middle), I just pull the bobbin thread to the top, stitch in place a few times to secure the threads and cut those ends right off. It works fine! If you are into quilting to be judged or something (I am not!), then you will want to bury those tails, but I just don't want to take that time. :)
You make something so boring into something so amazing and intricate! I love it! Question: How do you choose the backing of the quilt? i know it's not the main piece but It's important to the quilt sandwich and I always get annoyed with it.
Another amazing quilt along with ruler work. My question is I have a Nightsky quilt and the stars are big. There are different patterns but I want to do different swirls on them. How can I learn to do different swirls?
Where did you get your gloves. I bought garden gloves and cut off the thumb and for fingers and they work great. They allow me to thread my needle and change bobbins when I have the gloves on.
I quilted an attic window with a panel. The panel is of a snowy mountain that graduates from white peeks to the dark green forest below. My question is how do I machine quilt the panels with so many color variations and still keep it looking like a window? Your awesome love your show. 😎
I’m currently doing a scenic panel quilt. I chose a few colors and have switched several times. It’s a pain but worth it, I think. But I haven’t changed thread for every color change. Some threads blend into several different colors.
I know you have had this question before but here goes , your gloves are very different ,can you tell us what they are called and why the cutout on them, where we can get them and how much. Also why you like them.
The gloves are called Regi’s Grips are are sold I think from a German store. I did contact Angela’s quilt shop and they told me she is TRYING to obtain the ability to sell in her store. So be patient ladies...I’m telling myself this as well. LOVE THOSE GLOVES !!!!
I have a standard sewing machine with just enough room to get my hand in to the right of the needle. Free motion is very hard to do with this machine. So I want to buy a new machine. What do you look for and why on a sewing machine you would be using primarily for free motion quilting? ( I am sure I will piece with it as well)
Hey Angela! I just got into sewing this past September and have already done so many projects including a quilt! However I’m currently using a pass me down sewing machine that jams every 5 seconds (it’s a REALLY old husquvana). Since I’ve been using my sewing machine so much i figure it’s a good if time as any to treat myself to a new one. Any recommendations on a sewing machine that can do it all? From quilting to just basic projects??? I’m also on a college students budget so not trying to break the bank😅
kathryn smith I’ve been looking also. I use a Brother which is computerized, very nice machine, but it doesn’t have a thread cutter or knee lift. But if all you want it for is quilting, look for a straight stitch with a big throat. I’m buying a Juki TL2000QI which runs at $699. I haven’t found but one cheaper machine with a bigger throat space and that’s another Brother. Everyone will tell you different brands but keep your price range in mind then start looking. Read the reviews!
Any word on a possible collaboration with Man About Cakes?! LOVE your videos! My mom and I watch separately then chat on the phone about them later. We love quilting together!
I’m a nervous nelly when it comes to free motion! I talk myself out of it every time and rely on my walking foot. Any troubleshooting tips or things to look out for if I take the plunge? On test strips I just found I had a lack of control and the stitch length is often inconsistent. Feels like I’m doing it wrong but can’t seem to get in the groove.
amanda fleming I’m new too and I’m doing a 70x79 quilt. A couple places didn’t look terrific but I kept going and if my design didn’t look so perfect, so what? There’s so much stitching nobody will notice and since there are no rules about what designs to use, practice a few and use the ones you feel comfortable with. I just found a good one for borders called the cha cha flower and another all over design is nothing more than a big letter c, but it looked really good. Or make up your own design. It’s supposed to be fun
Do you have to have a special sewing machine for quliting? I want to start but I only have regular foots and my machine didn't support a walking foot that I know of
I too am being overrun by tops. I am frustrated because I so want to use the finished quilts, but every time I try to quilt on my machine it seems like I do more wrestling than quilting. This may be a silly question, but you make it look so effortless, do you use something under the quilt to make it slide around easier?
I made this yesterday but I came to one problem. I sew all the color strips first and cut out the gray one. When went to sewing the strips that is upright it fit the gray material great, but when went to sew the color long way it didn’t fit the gray so I had to trim the gray an half inch off.....what did I do wrong?
I didn’t care for this before you quilted it but once the quilting was done, omg, this may be my all time favorite quilt! The variety and textures are just gorgeous! Beautifully done, Angela. You are a quilting genius.❤️

Where did you get your gloves. I bought garden gloves and cut off the thumb and for fingers and they work great. They allow me to thread my needle and change bobbins when I have the gloves on.
She has them in her shop now, I just got mine in the mail! Love them!
I am learning to free motion quilt having a hard time being random .I just ordered a ruler foot
Hi there, great show! I was wondering if it was necessary to wash your fabrics prior to quilting? Thanks!
That quiltting would look great on an indian themed quilt.
I just bought the quilt kit. Was wondering if you have diagrams for the FMQ you do on it in the video.
Thank you ladies,
I love the quilt and I would like to make it. I click the link, but don't allowed me to access the pattern. How I can found it?
Try this link, it says you have to sign up for their newsletter to get the pattern. www.craftsy.com/post/negative-space-quilt/
I know you have had this question before but here goes , your gloves are very different ,can you tell us what they are called and why the cutout on them, where we can get them and how much. Also why you like them.
Dianne57 M. Yes please let us know where you got your gloves
I also would like to know. I love those gloves.
The gloves are called Regi’s Grips are are sold I think from a German store. I did contact Angela’s quilt shop and they told me she is TRYING to obtain the ability to sell in her store. So be patient ladies...I’m telling myself this as well. LOVE THOSE GLOVES !!!!
@@elizabethrussell2940 The gloves are called REGI'S grips, not Reis Grips. Just in case someone wants to try to find them here in the USA.
Mary Ellen Brennan , thank you ! I edited my comment.
The gloves! Will you make them available in your store? Please!
I have a standard sewing machine with just enough room to get my hand in to the right of the needle. Free motion is very hard to do with this machine. So I want to buy a new machine. What do you look for and why on a sewing machine you would be using primarily for free motion quilting? ( I am sure I will piece with it as well)
My quilt role model...one day
Angela, thank you for another great video!! I love watching and learning from your videos. I love your gloves where can I find those?
Do you stitch inn the ditch around all of your blocks before you begin the more decorative fmq?
Angela, since you do everything so great, can you explain the "Gypsy wife" quilt? I really want to complete one!
Do you have a video going over binding? Is there any tip or tricks out there?
What are the strips mesurments after you cut them? Im so ready to try this quilting game.
Safe place for the wine? In my glass, in my hand, on the way to my mouth. Oops. Did I say that out loud? 🤣🤣🤣
I want to start but I only have regular foots and my machine didn't support a walking foot that I know of
It's like an old TV from back in the day. The grey is the fuzz and the colors are what happened at midnight...
What kind of foot is ideal for quilting? im brand new to quilting, but whenever i see the close ups the needle/foot looks unique?
I too am being overrun by tops. I am frustrated because I so want to use the finished quilts, but every time I try to quilt on my machine it seems like I do more wrestling than quilting. This may be a silly question, but you make it look so effortless, do you use something under the quilt to make it slide around easier?
You need to use a slider. several websites carry it such as Amazon.
🥰🥰🥰🥰 love it 😍
I made this yesterday but I came to one problem. I sew all the color strips first and cut out the gray one. When went to sewing the strips that is upright it fit the gray material great, but when went to sew the color long way it didn’t fit the gray so I had to trim the gray an half inch off.....what did I do wrong?
The negative space FREE PATTERN will not open on my computer. Is it located somewhere else. thank you
Want my granddaughter to make this quilt. I made it years ago and can't find the measurements. Can't download pattern. Help

Is there a PDF guild for the quilting designs you use .... I noted there were none in the free PATTERN PDF
Can we make copies of the quilt pattern and hand them out at the guild as we are making charity quilts in February ?
