    What I love about these and all the titles made for dead consoles over the last 15(?) years or whenever the first guy to do this put out the first title is that it proved I wasn't the only one who loved 8/16 bit titles enough to want to see NEW titles. It made it clear that my love of old Consoles wasn't just a peculiar sort of niche love of gaming for myself and a handful of other nostalgic nerds.

    Nice to see companies doing this, keeping the retro flame burning bright. Homebrews and fan-mades are the lifeblood of 'new' games for 16 and 8 bit systems. and it makes me happy.

    I'm so glad to see that these old systems arn't being completly ignored by the global marketplace anymore many people like the old styles of video games and this also brings title that would have never been into a place where they can be found

    in the 90's cartridge were limited in terms of memory size , now that memory chips go up to 120gb and beyond , it is possible to create new games with lots of data on vintage consoles

    Looks like Water Margin is a rip of the arcade game Knights of the Round, utilizing MANY of the same animations with different/modified sprites. If thr characters didn't look markedly different i would think it was a home port of that game.

    Water Margin is extremely similar to Knights of the Round, a Capcom arcade port beat em up I used to play all the time back in the '90s.

    Super Noah's Ark 3D is rad. I would love to have the original release. I remember seeing it in the Christian bookstore as a kid and I wanted it so bad but I had a Genesis instead of a SNES. One thing that's cool about Piko's cart is that the original required you to have a legit licensed SNES game attached to a cartridge slot on the top of the cart. Piko's release did away with that and the cartridge looks way better for it. But it is available on Steam now, too for those that want to play it on a budget.

    Duke Nukem looks like it is a mod of Wolfenstein 3D and you can run that on an NES with some reduction in resolution and sound quality. Wolfenstein 3D was done on the NES. It looks pretty good but they removed the blood.

      +MetalJesusRocks The main thing that bothers me about homebrews/re-released like this is for some reason people can't get labels to stick to a cart. This bothers the shit out of me considering it's typically a brand new product. 8:44 Noah's Ark 3D. Label is coming off on the top left already. These guys pose as legit but are not in the least, sure they got some licenses, but only to a few major titles, these guys where all wanted in several countries for a while for selling bootleg/chipped games for a seemingly legit company known as "Nordic Games", they are pretty good at making themselves seem legit, I remember how they began buying up cheap Super Street Fighter 2 cartridges (Japanese) for the Snes then basically stuck them in a EU cartridge, they did work for a while, until several consoles turned aflame and they disappeared as a result.

    • @Insertmiddlefinger
      @Insertmiddlefinger 7 лет назад +6

      Simply put: These guys sell a couple of legit titles, and at times thousands of illegal copies (depending on their economy, these guys have done the same about 5/6 times before for over two decades, when consoles start breaking, then they spend the money and begin all over again under a new identity in a new country)

    • @radioactivechimp
      @radioactivechimp 8 лет назад +1

      +The Gaming Paladin Earthbound 64 is just one of those titles that has always fascinated me because of my love of the Mother series and how different it appears to be from Mother 3 on the gba. It would probably be a let down and might be better off as a mystery than a highly flawed game that was stuck in development hell for years.

    That was nice to see the NUke Nukem on the video, I know it is a fraction of the original game and still not as fun as it should be, but back in the nineties we couldn't afford the new systems here in Brazil because they were too expensive, (video games are still very expensive around here) so at least Tec Toy, a very good Brazilian company created many different games for the old ones, like Street Fighter 2 for the Sega Master System and others.

    • @UltimateGamerCC
      @UltimateGamerCC 8 лет назад +2

      +Pow3rh0use i've played it, not really worth what nintendo will shill it out for, since Starfox is a big IP, it would likely cost them a king's ransom.

    • @Powerhouse1
      @Powerhouse1 8 лет назад

      The Gaming Paladin
      There hasn't been a new starfox game released since 2011, so the IP isn't as big as it once was (at least from Nintento's eyes). While it's not impossible, this company will need a large amount of capital and some more years under their belt.

    Are you sure it's not "pie" ko? Isn't that a pi symbol in their logo?

    • @MetalJesusRocks
      @MetalJesusRocks  8 лет назад +36

      +Will Bachinski It could be pronounced that way...but then again, I'll just blame my public school education...

    • @bleemnet
      @bleemnet 8 лет назад +22

      +Will Bachinski Originally we've named the company to be pronounced "pie ko' however too many people called it piko that we were ok with it, mainly because we speak Spanish, and "Piko" pronunciation would be ok with us too.

      +PikoInteractive while I have you here can I ask you a question? How is it that you go about securing the "rights" for these games? I guess I'm just skeptical that something with like Water Margin developed 20 years ago in China you were actually able to find the original developer and work out something with them. Plus these were never official releases anyway, are the copyrights and such even valid for bootlegs? Thanks!

    • @bleemnet
      @bleemnet 8 лет назад +5

      Well this game is not a bootleg it is just an unlicensed game, like Accolade's carts on the Genesis or Tengen's on NES.
      We actually acquired the rights of 8 Taiwan exclusive games from SuperFighter Team, which is a game publisher that does similar work than us, but have been around since the early 2000's. They have the rights of many Chinese video game properties, they've acquired complete Chinese game developers.

    Just a little correction MetalJesus. The game Duke Nuken wasnt licensed to Piko. Tectoy doesnt sell then the license, they are pirating this game and Tectoy haves the license to this tittle as well as it is a Sega endorsed game, as well as any other Tectoy exclusive game. Tectoy have a license from SEGA to produce games that is still valid. Just to let you know! Keep up with the good work! I love your channel!

    They do not have those licences, it's a lie. I was selling my repros and they contacted me, i have asked some of those to proof (they asked me to stop selling due to this) and they never answered me back

    • @MetalJesusRocks
      @MetalJesusRocks  7 лет назад +3

      Actually, I'm pretty sure they DO own the licenses. There are RUclips interviews with the owner where they talk about the cost of acquiring those titles.

    • @Insertmiddlefinger
      @Insertmiddlefinger 7 лет назад

      They got many licenses, but not all of those whose games they sell, lets just say that I worked with them, they are good at making it seem like they got the rights to everything here, which they do not. 3D Noah`s is an example, they have not paid all of the rights, yet still sell the game as if they did. (The team behind this used to call themselves "Nordic games" and sold unlicensed and foreign games somehow modded to work on EU/US consoles all of which overheated them, the team disappeared years ago and have resurfaced now, ask my brother, he works with them still, their identities are fake)

    Haha I still have my Brazilian Mega Driver (Genesis) copy of Duke Nukem 3D from when I was like 10 years old. It was fun back then, but playing a FPS with a 3 button Genesis joystick was a real challenge.

    Comments: Water Margin looks like it was totally inspired by Knights of the Round. That Duke Nukem 3D release looks like it's based on Wolfenstein 3D. Also, I am able to find it among many other new Genesis releases available on Ebay from Russian sellers, fully translated into Russian and featuring Russian box and manual. I wonder about Piko's licensing of these things, since they're obviously being manufactured somewhere in the East (Russia and/or China) as well. I've seen many new Famiclone games from Chinese sellers on Ebay also.

    MetalJesusRocks, the Genesis is capable of doing great FPS games when used correctly. A member of our forums is porting Wolfenstein 3D to the stock Genesis, and it's looking very impressive. Check it out!

    Take this with a grain of salt, because I neither own the RetroN 5 nor any Piko Interactive release, but I'm guessing that the reason the games work on the original consoles, but not the RetroN 5 is due to the games being designed with copy protection in mind, to prevent pirates from buying their games, dumping them, then releasing them online. I remember another team releasing games for retro consoles, Super Fighter Team, releasing a translation for Beggar Prince on the Sega Genesis, and making it a point to design the cartridge with features that would block ROM dumping.

    I already have Duke Nukem 3D for the Genesis (Mega Drive) imported, I like the game, plays smother than Doom on the SNES, it plays a bit like Zero Tolerance... but it is crazy hard... good if you use cheat codes. Biggest problem, is not enough ammo, your biggest challenge is being careful not to waste bullets, and-or running out of bullets.
    If they didn't change the difficulty level for this version then this game is not for everyone.

    I wonder when Piko will do DS games also. Excellent video, I am interested in the Gameboy advance games. 95% of my play time is handheld which is why I love the Nintendo switch. At least when I can use the TV I can see my games on a big screen. Sadly I didn't see these games for sell on their website.

    The reason Water Margin: A Tale of Clouds and Wind is called that is because it's based on an ancient Chinese novel called Water Margin. Water Margin was also the basis for the Suikoden series.

    New TurboGrafX games is actually a thing! gooddealgames.com/inventory/Turbografx.html I've heard some good things about Mysterious Song in particular.
    Also: Super 3D Noah's Ark is actually just Wolfenstein 3D, but with different sounds and music. The levels and controls are exactly the same, so it's no surprise that it was still enjoyable. Says a lot about the game, and how it's able to be engaging at its core even with a new skin. And about you, for being able to look past its surface.
