My husband and my first date was to a Roy Clark concert . We both had exs and when he sang this, it immediatly became "our song". We've now been married 38 years, have 3 sons and 5 grandsons.
Lol I picked this song after a recent breakup! I loved that girl thought even if things didn’t go right we could still be friends and continue skating together and relic hunting river beds. After 4 days of not hearing from her and her last text “don’t ever contact me again”. I really needed this and it’s totally fitting! Got too big of a heart to deal with people like that! Congrats on the long life together! ❤️
It's now been almost 51 years. We have grandchild number seven due in June and great grandchild number eight due in August. So blessed. It's been twenty six years since our last grandchild was born, so this one is a complete surprise. @@mainstmechanical7932
Many years ago my father, who had recently divorced my mother - a woman right out of this song, was attending a Roy Clark concert at a small venue. At some point in the show Roy opened the floor for requests, and my father immediately shouted out for this song. Roy winked at my dad and started right into it!
+SpeedyNeutrino172 It can also fit for some MOTHERs of grown children! My son is 45 yrs old, I LOVE him with ALL my heart! BUT, when he comes home to visit, he turns MY life so upside down with his *ways* that...when he boards that GreyDog, I pull out of the parking lot singing this song every time!
A quick pointer here... The different comments to this song goes to show that the problems are not restricted to just WOMEN or MEN, YOUNG OR OLD...Its unfortunate that we have these problems..PERIOD. But, let the appropriate parties be GONE when they cause bad problems.
This was one of my dad's favorite songs, and it was always so fitting. He put up with my mom's crap for over 60 years while she squandered his money, would shame him constantly, and he'd just take the abuse. He was always afraid that she'd take him for everything and that it was just cheaper to keep her. So sad and tragic. When he passed this spring from cancer, as sad as it was and as heartbroken as I still am, I know now that he's finally free. My mom went into a nursing home a short while after he died, and I cranked this song on full blast. This song could have only been written by someone who lived it. To my dad, you're finally free, enjoy your reward, and thank God and Greyhound she's GONE!!!
After 40 years---Dec. 23, 2012--- my wife up and left! I was devastated-----yeh, I was devastated that she didn't leave 39 years sooner!! Roy, I couldn't have nailed it any better than YOU did-----thanks!
In 1973 Roy Clark gave a concert on Fort Huachuca, AZ. I had a beautiful red head from Nashville on my arm. She had told me Roy Clark had been to her parents home. Just after Roy started this song, he stopped and asked where MS XX was, and gave her a note from her parents. She looked just like Reba Mcentire, red hair and all... and I think of her fondly when I hear this song or see Reba...so, if you ever see this post, give me a call...
In 1982 I got married in South Lake Tahoe, NV. We saw Roy Clark that weekend and I will never forget it. He was our theme for 31 years of marriage until my husband passed from Pancreatic Cancer. Roy brings me such great joy.
Seriously, how why does a person think I owe them??? 26 yrs of marriage, she packed and left. Now she wants me to pay her. She had 26 yrs to get a job. Any time I encouraged her, she had an issue at work. Her employer’s fault. I’m such an idiot. Now I’m paying for my foolishness. I was in love. Now I know I was in love with a truly evil person
I want all the young men to listen to this song from the beginning it'll help you understand about certain women and what they want it took me over 40 years to understand
My girlfriend doesn't know too much about Roy Clark so today when I was singing this song in the shower, she took it to heart and thought I was singing about her. It almost started a real fight until I had her listen to this video. Thank God You had it posted here. :-)
Roy was great at singing songs of regret (Tips of My Fingers, Yesterday When I was Young), and at the same he had an upbeat, cheerful personality. This song perfectly captures both of those qualities.
I was at a community center where they serve meals to the elderly and on Thursdays, they have a band come in and have karaoke and one guy sang this song. I always liked watching Hee-Haw with my Mother, so this brings back fond memories.
I know. I can still remember the 1st time I heard this. So sad I was getting a little teary. lol Then when it got to the fabulous punch line I cracked up! Pure genius.
Thank God and Greyhound" is a song made famous by American country musician Roy Clark. Written by Larry Kingston and John Edward Nix, the song was released in 1970 as the second single to the album I Never Picked Cotton.
Great song. reminds me of my 2nd ex wife. She took off with a Marine and the checkbook. I went to a bar that night and played this song until closiing then went home with a drunk barfly. Had to take out a loan to paythe mortgage but it was worth it. Last I heard, her new (3rd) husband used to beat her regularly.- poetic justice.
That is such a sad story. I hope that you can find the same true love that I have found. If you want true love never lie and give your next partner your true love!
I actually played this FOR my dad at a hog auction in Hubbard Texas . He liked Big Band and I have no idea how he missed it ,, but he loved it . This was approx 2001 .
Here's the thing... I was talking with my husband about that *exact* thing. I searched for a copy to play for him, and found yours. I cued it up and could hear my Dad singing along!!! When it got to the refrain, it had the exact opposite reaction as intended - I got all freakin' misty! Sheesh! Spot-on observation, though. Straight up.
"Forgive the pops and clicks from time to time, it's from vinyl!" I like it, makes it feel like I'm actually listening to a turntable and not an audio file!
OH MY GAWD!!! I first heard this song by Roy over 30 years ago. And here I am today, laughing so hard I am crying! Thanks, Wilburscott, and I don't give a hoot about the pops and clicks. This is one of the funniest songs recorded. Ever. Happy 2010!
Dad did 25 years as a greyhound union man. This is the song he and mom sang when me, the youngest of five children in the last too leave the house too Marine Corps recruit depot, San Diego.
So many of us fit this song so well, especially the part about squandering a small fortune, and shaming you til you feel one tall. That big diesel motor is singing my song.
Dad weened me on country music and this was one of the all time self awareness moments of life that country music taught me! Not to mention a greater appreciation for the God given talent of the incomparable legendary Mr. Roy Clark! By the way in his prime Mr. Roy was one of the top five if not number one Guitarist in the World! Don and forget he was master of double neck guitar 🎸 and banjo!
Love all of these old songs and Roy Clark is certainly one of the all time greats. If records expired after 10 years and you couldn't listen to them anymore, I just wouldn't listen to anything today because there would be no music left.
Roy still IS one of the greats. Still doing shows in Branson, last I heard. He's one of the finest guitarists I've ever laid eyes on. And this song, is solid GOLD... right there with "Yesterday When I Was Young", and Malaguena, which is just an amazing song to watch him play.
+Mack Roebuck The first time I heard this I was thinking about changing stations on the radio when he changed the tempo. That had to be in the mid-80s when my wife left me and I was so relieved.
We will All Miss You, Roy, but Your Musical Legacy means that You have achieved Immortality. I am SO Happy that You made this song which should be an Anthem for ANYONE getting out of a Bad Marriage!!!!!
1st time I heard this song I thought ‘what a stinker’ but I wanted to see how the story ended. Then when it hit “thank God & Greyhound your gone” I cracked up!!! One of my favorite songs. RIP
While visiting Branson awhile back on vacation, I was fortunate enough to sit in the Roy Clark celebrity theater and see this legendery man perform on stage. This was the first song that he sang after a little introduction at the beginning. I must say it, this was one of the best concerts LIVE i've ever been to IN MY LIFE!!! Thanks Mr Clark for a wonderful show!!! You're the greatest Roy:):):):)

Classic! I love this song. Prolly 'cause I wanted nothing more than for it to be reality for my dad. When I was around 10yrs old my dad and step mom were arguing in the basement. I cranked this song up till the house was shaking......hag didn't leave for another 15 years.....what a bummer!
Grey hound was a great bus line back when this was written i use to kick back and enjoy the ride we had another one here also called carolina trailways they were nice to.this song from cousin roy brings back memories from the beveryhillbilly days.💈🎣🚆🚇🚎🚄🚃🚂🚝🚞🚢✈🚁⛵🚥
Reminds me of a neighbor woman, out in the road throwing rocks at her husband's car as it drove away. She shouted "Dear Lord, thank you for making Fords reliable to keep running long enough to take that man away from me!" This couple's fights were epic and that lady was no shrinking violet. Unlike her husband she never used naughty words. She had a wild collection of insults without them. Calling him Festering Pig Guts was the least of them.
love this song. had it on 8 track. i could hit the 'skip' button just after the song ended, and be back at the start for this one again. i'd play it over and over again.. thanks

Great song ! Your Granddaddy was a major talent !
It’s a great song. But believe me, a lot of us guys have at least thought something similar 😂
Sure helped me with this crap I'm dealing with
That's too cool! This is my new divorce anthem song, lol! 😎... your grandfather and Roy did good 👍
Many years ago my father, who had recently divorced my mother - a woman right out of this song, was attending a Roy Clark concert at a small venue. At some point in the show Roy opened the floor for requests, and my father immediately shouted out for this song. Roy winked at my dad and started right into it!
God Bless your Dad. I bet his life was peaceful and fun when he was finally free.
I am right there with your Dad, that is an awesome story
This IS, MY, song!
Nothing beats the element of surprise the first time you hear this classic
The world became a lonelier place when Ol RoyClark passed on. RIP Ol friend.
This man was SUCH an accomplished musician and you hardly ever hear about his talent anymore. RIP Roy 😘
As long as there are women and men, and you tube his name may live on!
Hello Lisa how are you doing!!
There is a LOT of truth in this tune.....I advise all young men to listen to it with an open mind.

I agree. I am thankful to have older men give me this education early in life. It will help me for many years to come!
Early #MGTOW Anthem?
A quick pointer here...
The different comments to this song goes to show that the problems are not restricted to just WOMEN or MEN, YOUNG OR OLD...Its unfortunate that we have these problems..PERIOD.
But, let the appropriate parties be GONE when they cause bad problems.
I dedicated this song to my ex-wife on our 1 year anniversary of here leaving me. Words to live by!

The best break up song of all time.
This may be a simple little song...but the story and the heartfelt emotions are worth a million dollars.
Country tunes from that era had some of the best lyrics. Nothing like it today!

I guessing that you got married in the Love
Chapel at the bottom of Kingsbury grade. So did my first wife and I in 1979..
So sorry for your loss. We just found out my daughter in law has pancreatic cancer too. They found it very early so we're praying God will heal her.
My mum would sing this about my old man while doing dishes, RIP Mum.
I think of my ex ,Ms. Satan, every time I hear this song. It is a great one.
The Devil doesn't scare me.
I was married to his sister for 5 years.
I was married to Satan's brother for a year, and shipped him off with on a greyhound.

One time I had a record player that skipped a lot! It didn't matter what you put on there; sooner or later you'd hear a skip somewhere.
Absolute classic... I drove for Greyhound here in Australia, and always listened to country music to keep me spurred along! Love the old time country.

I remember hearing this song for the first tme in a cafe jukebox in 1971. It's still funny.
If they had a contest for best country music title this would definitely be a contender.
Thanks for uploading it.
What a classic. I have quietly hummed this to myself more then once, while trying very hard not to smile.....................
