Bobby Bare is still alive as of this writing. You know.... Many too young armed forces left and never returned! I like how Bobby is all dressed in just about all Black.. The sadness of it all. resonated with many J.Cash's memorial war songs. All the stone memorials. If only they could speak. Blessings to all whether it's you or your're a family member who survived. Let me know if you saw this. Love,
I'm 76 now almost 77. I just wonder when my daughter will be thinking and saying the same thing. sure hope not soon. I love life even though nothing but aches and pains.
I emigrated from England and lived in Johannesburg South Africa in 1963. This was played on the juke box in cafe by the bus station. It resonated with me very much at the time.
John Kyle I noticed that too. People had respect. Times may change but I don’t. You ever start laughing when someone gets mad and tell them they’re great. They don’t know how to respond, but I’m a Vietnam vet in case they want to see if God is real or not. Within the next ten seconds.
the sound of the voice is so magnificent; they don't make'em like that anymore. So many artists from that era got that special voice and I can't describe it; listen to roy orbison, lee hazlewood, the ronettes; whatever; their voices are just so different than anything today; weird.. and I love it
Reason is because of the stereo equipment they recorded on and the sound of their voice was natural with zero editing other than noise reduction/ cancellation. Now day and since the 80s they have been using hi fi equipment which now is termed high res. Everything is digital now. Voices are encrypted and then decoded. Back then it was just the sound of minute scratches on vinyl
been 450 miles from home for over 40yrs and yeah it still is home to me, Edinburgh always will be, its where I can exhale. love this song and where it takes me.

20 years old and on a lark I hitched hike from Phoenix, ariz back to my hometown in Iowa. Flagstaff 5:00am so cold waiting for a ride . Oklahoma City praying for a ride because it’s going to rain any minute. Excelsior Springs, Mo at 2:00 in the morning just hoping the cops didn’t see me sleeping downtown under this awning. When I finally got home I sat down on a park bench in the town square and thanked God that I made it back in one piece and promised myself I would NEVER do such a dumbass thing again!!! This song was running through my mind on that whole journey.
This song really hits hard when I listen to it. Even when I am home, it still makes me feel lonely. Also, for those of who say you can't use a 12-string for country, kiss it! Bobby Bare is one of the greatest country artists ever and he used 12-strings in his early years! I think the one he has in this video is a Gibson B-25 12.
@Case Southerland , my daddy was a self taught guitar player. He too played a 12 string and he sure could sing too. Had his own band and even his his own radio show for awhile. He sang only Country music.

I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1994. I was working at a convenience store in south Florida, he came in with Little Jimmy Dickens. They were doing a fishing show with Wade Reynolds . He is truly a Southern gentleman.
Last year I left my home to travel 15000 kms away from my home, due to the Coronavirus I had to come back... And I spent 2 days trying to get back to my people... And I remember this playing on the airport while looking out the huge windows, cold, alone and hungry; just wanting to be a 5 year old child again on my mother's arms.

I'm 16 years old raised on this kind of music. this is my all time favorite by far. Bobby Bare is absolutely great.
I wish to know the same. Only 3 years younger than you, if the math inside my head adds up
The country singer of today can't hold a candle to the old country singers
Living thousands of miles away from where I grew up and far from my oldest friends and family this song really hits me hard and deeply.
This was my late father's favorite!...Especially when he was a single man doing time in the navy in the 60's. This fits him well as he travel the world then. We miss you dad!!
A oldie but goodie from the 60,s , how can you not love this music from then. Take us back 🎼🎸💙
Bobby back in the day. This thing gets me in tears. And he drank performing this.
It’s a very beautiful song, they don’t make good music like this nowadays don’t you agree ?
It's seems you're a true fan and has been to couple of his concert years back, I'm a huge fan too, He is definitely the best
I still had 5 years before I was born and I love this song still...

JohnRobert Mauney n
JohnRobert Mauney you are absolutely right!! This was on the radio alot!
Only thing I thing I can truly say good about the boomers is they had good music
I was a ladd of 15 when I first heard american country music. An old sergeant of the us armee who frequently came by to our restaurant in the frankfort area, took me to the nco and I had the very pleasure to hear this great singer; btw my favorite album is still that "down and dirty", he released in the early '80s. - Do hope, that my English hasn't gone that bad.

For me the 500 miles are eternity for the loved ones I have lost. This song makes me cry.
I'm 500 miles away from home
Teardrops fell on momma's note
When I read the things she wrote
She said we miss you son we love you come on home
Well I didn't have to pack
I had it all right on my back
Now I'm 500 miles away from home
Away from home away from home
Cold and tired and all alone
Yes, I'm 500 miles away from home
I know this is the same road I took the day I left home,
But it sure looks different now. And I guess I look
Different too, cause time changes everything. I wonder what
They'll say, when they see their boy looking this bad.
Oh I wonder what they'll say when I get home
Can't remember when I ate
It's just thumb and walk and wait
And I'm still 500 miles away from home
If my luck had been just right
I'd be with them all tonight
But I'm 500 miles away from home
Away from home away from home
Oh I'm still 500 miles away from home
lol
I heard him perform this song at the Texas club, in Baton Rouge, La many years ago. I love this song and it was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar. I would merge his version into the PP&M version.
❤
Away from home, away from home, cold and tired and all alone, I’m still 500 miles away from home
That's farwhere are you
This song of Bobby Bare always bring tears in my eyes as i am less than 5,000 miles away from home, missing you all guys back home.

Das ist für mich ein absoluter Gänsehaut Song.Thank you Bobby.
Love,
This the second song we play every night wherever we are. Best version.
Anybody watching this in 2019?

Thomson Laikhuram yes

Oh, wow, my Mom played the guitar and her and my Dad would sit on back porch and sing this song! I loved this song!
Ive always loved this song. It takes me back a long, long time.
I love this song. Clear and nice voice 👍🏻
Bobby's voice is the perfect match for this song and gives me cold chills.
Hello how are you doing?
@@drakehonest2!
One of the great songs of all time. It has a meaning for so many people.
The old songs like this one really make me miss my dad and remember him even more.
Same for me friend....
markyeeee me to!
Same here.
I'm 76 now almost 77. I just wonder when my daughter will be thinking and saying the same thing. sure hope not soon. I love life even though nothing but aches and pains.
Dan Taylor me too!!!
I was 8 years old when this song was released. Doesn't get better than this. I just bought me a new copy on 45 rpm.
Hey how are you doing today..?
I remember this so well. I sang every word. Thanks Gary Spradlin
Amazing singer nice memories back home still listening to his song... How are you Eve Fox ?
I emigrated from England and lived in Johannesburg South Africa in 1963. This was played on the juke box in cafe by the bus station. It resonated with me very much at the time.
Hey how are you doing today?
From central Illinois, moved north of Detroit, Mi. at age 20.
Still remember the first year. Almost like Bobby was singing my song
Hello how are you doing today?
Tears well up in those eyes everytime.. also sunshine of memories of that place called home..
Look how well dressed the audience is
John Kyle I noticed that too. People had respect. Times may change but I don’t. You ever start laughing when someone gets mad and tell them they’re great. They don’t know how to respond, but I’m a Vietnam vet in case they want to see if God is real or not. Within the next ten seconds.
This is in Norway btw
I'm in my 70's now and love this song just as much now as I did back then. I wish country music was still this good.
It was our song ,he passad away 5 years it brings lots memories 😢😢
the sound of the voice is so magnificent; they don't make'em like that anymore. So many artists from that era got that special voice and I can't describe it; listen to roy orbison, lee hazlewood, the ronettes; whatever; their voices are just so different than anything today; weird.. and I love it
I am age 66 and I've been telling myself for 50 years that they had voices back then.
Jason Hunter
IMO, it's called singing....don't hear much anymore.
@@marioalvidrez231 But to upload the voice to a RUclips video it is uploaded and then decoded
It’s called testosterone
been 450 miles from home for over 40yrs and yeah it still is home to me, Edinburgh always will be, its where I can exhale. love this song and where it takes me.

Beautiful song Makes me yearn for childhood
Hello how are you doing….?
Reminds me of my time in the Marine Corps. So far away from home.
Me too! Semper fi brother!
When I finally got home
I sat down on a park bench in the town square and thanked God that I made it back in one piece and promised myself I would NEVER do such a dumbass thing again!!! This song was running through my mind on that whole journey.
I was amazed and overwhelmed seeing great comments on my songs. Thanks once again for supporting. Please send me a mail via.

Bobby always had a serious sadness in his eyes. Nobody ever sang this song like him
Always love to hear this song and nobody ever sing it like he does
Hello how are you doing today 😊😊
Hits me in the feels
Hey how are you doing.?😊
This song really hits hard when I listen to it. Even when I am home, it still makes me feel lonely.
Also, for those of who say you can't use a 12-string for country, kiss it! Bobby Bare is one of the greatest country artists ever and he used 12-strings in his early years! I think the one he has in this video is a Gibson B-25 12.
@Case Southerland , my daddy was a self taught guitar player. He too played a 12 string and he sure could sing too. Had his own band and even his his own radio show for awhile. He sang only Country music.
Grew up listening to you Bobby because of my parents, back in the sixties. Time has changed everything. Never forgot the music. Thank You

I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1994. I was working at a convenience store in south Florida, he came in with Little Jimmy Dickens. They were doing a fishing show with Wade Reynolds . He is truly a Southern gentleman.
20 year later (1984) still amazing! 80's outlaw Bobby! all the way... 2015... still love Bobby!
This is country music at it's best!
Great singer and great song - brings back some memories good and bad
Nothing like Bobby Bare!
Hello how are you doing..?😊
My mom is dead and this song always reminds me of her.
Very sad and touching song .
Im so far removed from home and humanity this song helps bring me back.
