    Nice cleanup - but you SHOULD have used Stove paint, and just SEASONED the interior parts with oil - as soon as you light a fire - it will burn off the paint - and possibly give off TOXIC Fumes.

    I appreciate that he went straight for the sandblast instead of wasting time stalling for a longer video

      I agree what a waste of time and it doesn't do as good of a job as the blaster does.

    I can point out one massive mistake - after brushing the rust, a lot was left in the crevices of cast iron. Remember to use a rust converter to get rid of it, otherwise, rust spots migth chew the metal undetneath the paint and make it flake off.

    Looks good, but the paint won't last long if the stove is used. These stoves used to be sold in their plain cast iron finish and the posher models were sold with an enamelled finish.

      When I was a kid there was a a special stove paint which as the name implies was especially for stoves.... Usually black I think

      @@abdullahalibutler4703 I don't know about black paint, but there is a silver paint which is meant for hot surfaces. It works well on my motorcycle's exhaust pipe, so I reckon it would also be good for stoves.

      When I was a kid we would repaint our wood stove with black heat resistant paint designed for that purpose. This paint doesn’t look safe and I wouldn’t want to breathe in whatever fumes it might give off.

    That stove will stink up a house being painted ! If you are going to use it get it to bare metal and rub it down well with stove black/stove polish I did that ant the end of every heating season when I had my coal stove and wiped down the inside metal parts with used engine oil kept it like new .

    all he did was scrape off the surface layer of rust and immediately put on primer. a real restoration would have also removed all casting imperfections, treated the metal against future rust, redone the heat treatment and screws and bolts, used primer and high temperature resistant paint (maybe the original color, which you can see in some of the disassembly sequences) . a quick clean and go, that's it. less time and attention to make a video quickly and cash in sooner.lastly, I didn't see any trace of the hard work. you?

    • @ianallen2
      @ianallen2 3 дня назад

      r
      Real restoration would not have removed all casting imperfections,
      . It is the casting imperfections that give the characteristics of the piece. It is a shame people remove the original workings of a piece, just like when restorers remove the hammer marks on forged works and sand and polish them to look shiny and smooth. It loses the true value and age of the item.

      I completely agree, he didn't really deal with the rust situation and could have spent some time sanding and prepping it better. The paint didn't look like the heat resistant type either. A lot of rough edges left, all around a poor restoration.
