I love that it’s just pure fun, mostly unpredictable and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Not everything needs super artificial drama or a deep storyline in my opinion. I know it might not be for everyone, but I love this manga and its characters.
I’m only up to volume 4 because of the English publication being so slow lmfao but I personally ADORE it! Thus far haha! I love how quirky and so out of this world it is because it’s so refreshing from todays manga that’s considered “mainstream”. Most quirky mangas like that don’t get brought to the light. To me everything seems paced fine and I understand everything going on but could be because I’ve read soooo much obscure shit. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea though!!
Most modern shônen mangas are terrible. Sakamoto Days is a Gintama-clone that wanna be John Wick, Kaiju 8 is a terrible attempt at writing Kaiju stories but by copying a bunch of different other shônen mangas, and Dandadan is a overhyped mockery that spends its time trying to provoke the reader as if it was written by some sociopathic troll from 2chan.
Dude is it just me or is there an overhype problem with the shonen and anime community. Been that way since AOT. And the Chainsaw fans have been acting like this and CSM are a religious experience. Do people force themselves into claiming things are masterpieces? Kinda sad
@@aaronaaron2405 Your either meatriding or never read a good shonen in your life. Because CSM as of right now is way far from "The Best" title storywise & thematically*
@@aaronaaron2405 then why aren't you stated "new gen" in your previous comment?. And even if we're compared it to the "new gen" thematically and story wise it's NOT close to the best at all. Theme wise Beastars and Yakusoku No Neverland is the best new-gen wise bcs it brought up a theme that "new gen" shounen never brought up. And story wise CSM ain't even close for being "The Best Story" in new gen 😭, like it's alright but that just it. There's a lot of better story on new gen like example Totsukuni no Shoujo.

I have the first two volumes and I somewhat agree. The frenetic pace can be disorienting at times. I dig the art style and humor, so it's still good to me. Not sure if I'm going to go all in on collection, but we'll see. Thanks for your thoughts.
I was on the fence of dropping it, but in hopes that it would somehow recover plot-wise I continued on. I haven’t read up until the latest chapter, but this video helped solidify that I shouldn’t since nothing really improves. Appreciate the video!
Someone said to me this was better than csm..turns out they only watched the anime 💀I’m so glad someone is talking abt this because everyone is acting like this is a masterpiece
Yeah, I wish the show gave more attention to developing character relationships and internal conflicts. Especially outside of strictly romances. I feel like Okarun and Aira could stand to have a one on one meaningful conversation about some of the weirdo alien junk. She seems to be into believing the mystical or open to new concepts. More stuff like Jiji feeling like a burden cuz of the evil eye. Just about anything on the granny would be great. Idk. Just feels like the characters are just always so focused on "getting stronger to protect what I care about" or whatever that I feel that their internal conflicts feel isolated from the events of the action most of the time outside of general plot reasonings. Ain't like the evil eye situation where Jiji wanted his family back and was living in fear on the daily. The reason why I think the ballerina ghost arc was the best was because it tied in the conflict of the Aira's deceased mother and loss with the loss of the ballerina and her unwillingness to let go. And it ending with a touching send off giving peace to someone who's just been living her afterlife in pain and regret. Only issue there being that Aira's whole Mom deal only got developed near the end of said arc. We also never look into how maybe Momo and Aira could find companionship in their shared mental scars from losing parental figures, nor do we see how it may tie in to why she was so vain and seeking approval from her peers as a popular girl that looked down on others. Maybe even get into how Jiji could maybe relate to her with the whole idea of wearing facades. There is groundwork laid out bare for the story to develop and interconnect relationships and motivations. But we kinda never get that. Characters come in, have their arc, they fight some rando thing and then something new happens and we only get droplets of development/moments from there.
The manga's alright. I wouldn't say it's the worst thing ever. The biggest fix for the manga would be a proper big bad and then we go with proper arcs from there in a similar way that they did the evil eye arc or saga.
I have the opposite opinion about the Curse House/Evil Eye arc as you. I felt like there weren’t enough to offer and it dragged too long. The arc could’ve been easily 10 chapters shorter. I also liked the Serpo arc at the school, nothing made any sense but it was blast to read, the pace was great and it didn’t slow down. The Kaiju/Globalist arc I’m with you so far, it is ongoing with Tatsu juggling a lot of plates trying to turn Arlong Park into Wano, I hope he doesn’t fumble as bad as Oda does. It’s long but it’s got a lot going on so it still works. So far I’m onboard with this arc.
I thought I was the only one who felt this. By chapter 30 I felt so fatigued by the convoluted mess of events that were occurring, and the lack of early character development made it really hard to even care about the cast. I like crazy shit don’t get me wrong, but when it’s weird just for the sole purpose of being weird, and lacking any other substance, it comes really flat. Art is amazing, but art alone can’t carry a manga that doesn’t have an overarching story (at least one intriguing enough to care about)
Dandadan getting an anime is still an unconfirmed, unsourced rumor and nothing but. And I don't envy any studio that would take on the task because of how action-heavy it is. It would need a OPM s1 treatment, which the stars would have to align for. Otherwise, it's not worth it. Anyway, I think you were overhyped on Dandadan by your friends. What is supposed to be charming you found as annoying, and I think every arc serves a meaningful purpose to at least one character which it doesn't seem you agree with. Probably just a personal preference thing. This review felt unnecessarily harsh to me.
I could have been way worse and I left out some other problems I had overall. I gave the series a completely fair chance of a review. From reading over 100 chapters. Because there was that chance that it could change my mind, but didn't from majority of it. Plus, aliens wanting to do more than just touch teenage girls ain't really charming to me.
@@adamshadow9881 Well, that is obviously not what I'm talking about.. moreso things like the way Jiji and Okarun handle their relationship as friends and rivals, Okarun and Momo's budding relationship, and the little things that matter to them. Their relationship drama often manifests in battles, which I think lends to them having more meaning than simply looking cool.
@@smugshrug Okarun and Jiji's friendship is something I do actually do enjoy. Feels natural. I can agree with that. Though for Momo and Okarun's thing...eh, it's aight. Very standard romance. Also, I apologize for the "charming" comment. Still just bugs me, so I always take a shot at it when I can. My bad.
I read all of the chapters in one sitting. Because I'm must do it (autism maybe ) . And I don't hate but is more is so mediocre and says nothing . The art is great but the story is nothing. What is the plot? Getting the tests back . For the majority of the time is not even acknowledged . Is just in the background "oh yeah his nuts " . I hate the quirky references . I hate that the "love " story happens so quickly like nothing . No build up nothing . It feels like a nerd fantasy of having many women want to hang him . Sad . The jiji arrived I almost wanted to throw up. He is just a plot point to make the protagonist jealous. I hate it . Oh and I hate the fact of having all the monsters having tragic backstories . It's so childish for no reason I hate it .
I think it's overhyped, but you definitely were too harsh this video imo. The first was absolutely correct, however i think Dandadan really has potential and now at 136 i really think the series becoming more grounded by time. I feel like if you read one piece you would drop it after 80 chapters. Truth is that some series really do need some time to get good. I think dandadan really is one of those series that needs time and now with the arc we are in it's slowly but surely paying off. In 3 years time it will blow up and i think for the right reasons.
@@adamshadow9881 I definitely see where you're coming from. I just think the latter part of the series is pretty good and that the series has a lot of potential. That's why I'm still sticking with it. To each their own I guess.

It doesn’t seem to be “pure fun” just an anime that’s wacky and doesn’t fit the action packed kind of anime they’re trying to portray it as.
