    I have dyno'd my 21 KLX300R. I dont have a base tune as i put all the mods on and then took it to the dyno. Mods are Power Commander 5, full pro circuit exhaust, KDX200 snorkel, PAIR/AIS valve delete, Twin Air Filter, replaced anti freeze with twin air ice flow coolant, and swapped spark plug to a NGK iridium. Dyno came out to 25.93 HP at 19.26 torque. A guy in San Francisco had basically the same mods and his came out to 23.47 HP and 17.80 torque.

    Awesome to see some real wheel horsepower numbers. I've got over 700 mi on mine and have been loving it so far, I feel that this channel will help make decisions to get a little more power when I feel that I need it. It would be cool to see what individual modifications do for power but I'm sure getting dyno'd isn't cheap. Great content!

      A slip on by itself is worth about 3 horsepower. Getting the proper fueling will net around another 3 horsepower. Exhaust is probably the first thing to do, then get the right fueling. I'd toss the airbox lid or get a KDX snorkel as well

    Cool video and great information. My question, I have a 2020 KLX300R...are there any differences in the KLX300 and the R (Cams, tune, timing, etc.)? I've done the FMF pipe and tossed the airbox lid and that helped a lot. Not on a dyno but the front wheel test was a vast improvement. I don't want to spend the money on the Power Commander if it doesn't really help all that much. What, if anything have you heard about a better tuner?

    • @jhmotorclub6916
      @jhmotorclub6916  3 года назад +3

      The 300 and 300R apparently have the same motor. However, the 300R most likely does not have this ignition issue up top. The stock exhaust for the 300R is less restrictive too, compared to the 300. The Power Commander will definitely help the 300R with a proper tune on it. It will achieve proper AFR's, because you might be a little lean right now. Ignition timing can be further optimized as well, with the Power Commander V.

  • @RadioReprised

    Could you slot the ignition and just give it more timing all the way through?...We used to do this to Jet Ski's back in the early 80'S It may have some adjustment in there stock so take a look!

    • @jhmotorclub6916
      @jhmotorclub6916  3 года назад

      Good idea! Ignition timing is controlled by the ECU. So, obviously, the bike has to pick up that signal from somewhere via the crankshaft. Adding more timing throughout would probably provide some gains up top. Of course, it would be preferable to add timing only up top. However, it is something I will have to look into!

    EJK is fine but I applaud your pursuit. I have a ‘17 WRR with the basic mods and a simple fuel controller. Does it rip? No, not compared to my CB1000R. It’s a 250cc after all and that’s it. Has it improved? Yes, absolutely. Would more expensive fuel tuning be worth it? No, unlikely. I’m very interested to see what your 300 will do but I expect it will mimic the WRR with perhaps more power mid range and not the big pop up top.

    Thank you for putting this information out there! I am picking up my KLX300 on Tuesday. I had to go out of state because locally they said I was looking at 9 months minimum until all existing orders are filled.
    My question for you is do you think it would be worth it to throw a slip on at it and nothing else? If so which one would you recommend?
    I subbed to you and your brothers channels. The amount of information you are putting out on this bike is unparalleled.

      Thank you for supporting both of our channels! Congrats on the new bike! It seems pretty crazy out there trying to find one. A slip on will definitely wake up the bike. My friend from the trail ride video ran just an exhaust for awhile before he got a tuner. With the 250, an exhaust nets around 3WHP. If just a slip on, the top three brands are Yoshimura, Two Bros, and FMF in my opinion. A Barker's performance exhaust is supposed to net the most gains, but you'd need an O2 bung welded into it.

    @jfseaman1 Год назад

    Don't read too much into that HP number. What is important is understanding improvements made. Stick with the same dyno while making changes. Try for the same weather conditions. On something as small as a 300, it makes a huge difference.
    As An Aside: the graph is from WinPeP7, as a Dynojet dynomometer operator, I have been made aware that WinPep7 and using STD Smoothing can be used to inflate the HP numbers. Not saying it is.
    Taking that into consideration. It is exactly where I would expect it to be. It will read lower if you go to someone with a different brand dyno or with a Dynojet using WinPeP8 with SAE Smoothing.

    • @jhmotorclub6916

    • @jhmotorclub6916
      @jhmotorclub6916  3 года назад +1

      My KLX has the same ignition pull up top. It was determined that it was ignition with my KLX from a number of different things. Almost all of the flow restrictions were taken care of except for the cams on my bike. On top of that, there have been carbed bike dyno graphs depicting the same drop off at the same RPM, of which were remedied by aftermarket CDI's or the clutch switch mod.

The other a I put a 2Bros full exhaust system on, removed the ais/emission system and installed a kdx200 snorkel. but it felt to lean, and stall when I came to stop while riding at higher rpms. So I installed the stock snorkle back and it seems to be a little quicker, but not perfect. So im looking for a good tuner programmer till then or hopping to find someone who can reflash my ecu. el_juano is suggesting the same thing I talked about a couple of previous videos...the KLX300r is mostly "uncorked" with the same motor...try out the 300r ECU on the 300 and I think you will be very surprised...2020 KLX.300r ECU Part #21175-1503 vs 2021 KLX300 ECU Part #21175-1727...a lot more stress on the engine once it is totally "uncorked". I have a carb 2020 klx250 (Australia) and they come very badly corked. However Kawasaki Aust issued a service bulletin on uncorking for off road use. Basically involved air box snorkel removal, blocking a vacuum bypass hole in the carb slide to allow the cv slide to lift fully, and a rejet. I also added a Delkevic pipe. Absolutely transformed the bike, now pull strongly to 10k+ with no drop off ( would not pull to 7k before). Everyone now comments on how well it goes, but I think it lacks a bit of low end which I hope will be improved with a 300 kit.

    Kawasaki may well be retarding the top end and overall power output for reliability and longevity reasons.
    Most people buying these cheaper, smaller dual sport bikes do not want the frequent maintenance schedules that an engine squeezing out every last bit of horsepower may require.
    Most complaints you hear about the 450 class of bikes is the frequent maintenance regime required.

    Thanks for the info! Great vid. Looking forward to the ECU tuners coming out for this bike. With an airbox mod, Yoshimura RS2 slip on and tuner, I’m hoping for a few extra HP’s without getting too complicated on the (2021 KLX300) bike. The more money I put into the bike, The more I’m inclined to just spend the extra money and get a better bike. The advantage of this KLX 300 is its price point, and the more I spend the more that advantage gets reduced. Sounds like you may be doing a video and getting a little more complicated with the tuner. Would like to see a “keeping it simple tuner video with airbox and slip on mod” and what that would do to the bike compared to a video that gets more intricate/expensive? and fine-tuned. Cool cross necklace BTW.

Therefore, another goal is to achieve these gains while still being cheaper than its competition.

    Durn it !
    Did up a biggy post for ya, Jeff, but it failed to post ....
    Anyway, the cliff notes:
    That 450 dyno chart should prove to you what we've talked about in the past - regarding AFR and combustion theory - what you may not know is that the 450 WOT AFR is a compromise - balancing max power and engine component protection - so it is richer than what one would choose if one was only interested in max power production. AFR's in the upper 11's ( I think that is what I see in the vid ?) is slow burning, just as is too lean.. (Hint: If I am reading that chart right, re-dyno that 450 with a stupid EJK tuned to do-up 12.4 to 12.6 @ WOT.. Mid 12's still offer some component protection..)
    Just remember, there are ignition scheme considerations when changing WOT AFR's from slower burning to faster burning..

    • @jhmotorclub6916
      @jhmotorclub6916  3 года назад +1

      Yup yup, the dyno for the KX was done with the black coupler. So, it is the safest of the three, running around 11.8 if I remember correctly. I changed to the next aggressive coupler, which should have an AFR of around 12.2-12.5 based on how it runs. Ignition is most likely a bit more aggressive in the mid range too. The black coupler is probably ideal for an exhaust. The most aggressive coupler definitely is running around 13+ AFR, so that needs to be fattened up a bit. I think it should pick up some nice gains by simply leaning out that 11.8 AFR though

An close friend has a new 250EXC-F, same thing, it drives him bonkers in the slow technical even with the slow roll on throttle cam installed. Ryan, the PCV is not the ecu. Someone just needs to do a flash service for the ECU to get rid of the EPA kerap tuning. You can only do so much with the fueling unless the ignition timing is worked with as well. On my Super Tenere, we have to get the ECU flashed AND put the PCV on (I added the Autotune for further tunability, the engine from the factory runs way lean, above 14.2afr, ideal is 13.6afr across the board) The fed goons are REALLY cracking down on tuners. They spend more resources shasing down tuners than keeping the drug cartel mules out of the border.
      So, it needs an ECU reflash, and a fuel controller with the exhaust de restricted and smog crapola removed.

    • @jhmotorclub6916
      @jhmotorclub6916  3 года назад +1

      Ignition timing represents the angle before the piston hits top dead center. If ignition timing is too late, the piston may be already traveling in its down stroke when the fuel mixture is ignited. The idea of ignition timing is to optimize peak cylinder pressure just before top dead center. Therefore, a retard in ignition timing would mean that the spark is igniting the mixture closer to the piston hitting top dead center.
